Backing up Iphone data before factory reset.

I need to factory reset my wife's Iphone 5.  I followed the instructions that suggested I sync via Itunes.  In the process of doing so the sync acted funny during the sync.  So I repeated the process.  Now my wife's phone has pictures back on it that she had uploaded to you Macbook Pro to create space on her phone.  It also downloaded back to the phone all the categories she created on her Macbook Pro for her pictures.
Before I factory reset her phone I need to be confident I backed up her data correctly.  Especially her contacts and most importantly her pictures.
Can anybody help this Newb out?

Connect to itunes the device and backup the data with backup button. On the left side of backup button check on ''in this computer'' button and click backup and then dont backup apps. And restore your device by entering revocery or pwnd dfu mode and then restore.

  • How to recover iPhone file before factory reset?

Last night I got an updating message for iOS 8, my phone was low on battery so I plugged into an aftermarket cable to recharge while it updates. Next thing i see is a picture telling me to connect iPhone to iTunes. Now iTunes will not recognize my phone and it seems like I need to factory reset... I have so many pictures that are not backed up. How do I at least retrieve my files before factory reset it?
Why did iPhone ask me to connect to iTunes in the first place? Could it be the cable? It was only connect to a power source, which should not have interfere with the update in my mind.

Do you synchronise your device with iTunes? If so, then iTunes should have created a backup of the device's data when you last connected it to your computer. (You can view your backups in the Devices tab in the preferences window.) If you don't have a backup of your data, then I don't believe it can be recovered.
Your device is displaying the "connect to iTunes" screen because it's unable to start iOS due to a fault and therefore needs to be restored to its default configuration. Yes, I think it's possible that using an uncertified Lightning cable could cause an upgrade of iOS to fail.

  • Recovering data after factory reset (security issue)

    Hello there,
Recently a friend of mine asked me how to erase all data on an iPhone ? I pointed to him to "factory reset".
Now, I see a bunch of websites that show how to recover data after factory reset using their software, not sure if they work as advertised or not.
What I would like to know is if the user wants the data to be erased and non-recoverable, is this the best option or if there is any other option available in iPhone that can make the data un-recoverable. We want to make sure the data is un-recoverable after factory reset.
    thanks
    Ashish Shah

unfortunately this doesn't answer my question.
I do know the option to "erase all content and settings" in iPhone.
What I want to know is to make sure once done, no one can recover that data back. Since this phone will be sold off to some stranger, we don't want them to have access to the data.
Here are a few websites from my just preliminary search results that show how to recover data.
just google "extracting data after factory reset iPhone" and you will see a bunch of websites offering their products to recover. So I want to check if this is so simple, how can we really make sure the data is wiped off clean.

  • How can i back up my filse after factory reset?

yes, just want to know how to back up my files after i accidently factory reset my computer?
and also i can not video chat with my friend on facebook, it get stuck, like not enough signal but it's work with my other computer in the same place and same times.

If you did a factory reset, you have pretty much "wiped" out everything, all settings, files, etc...
You may be able to recover some data with something like DiskWarrior, but a full version is not cheap, nor is a data recvery service.
You should have backed up everything BEFORE wiping the drive.
Maybe some here may have some suggestions for you.
    Best of luck

  • Iphone G2 cancel factory reset.

I did a factory reset, but am now stuck with the usb Icon and Itunes icon. I can't connect to itunes as my phone is locked. How can i restore my Iphone to the previous Iphone that is not in reset mode? I want to cancel reset mode.

Hi KiltedTim, the idea was to remove everything as I took over the phone from a friend. I can't connect with Itunes. Tried everything found on the web with no luck. I just want to cancel the reset and get back to the firmware that was on, dont care about the info.
Is there a way I can install the firmware without Itunes?

  • HT204053 backing up IPhone data

My husband & I share an account for our Iphones - we need to backup our data before getting our upgraded phones - since we share an apple ID I'm concerned that when I back up one phones data will overwrite the other..how & where do I backup each phone individually?

Your phones will be seen as separate devices and they will create separate backups, even if you are sharing an Apple ID.  You may want to do the backup with iTunes rather than iCloud though, as restoring to an iTunes backup is much faster than to an iCloud backup.  To do this, connect your phones to iTunes, then right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and select Back Up.  Also be sure to sync with iTunes to transfer your apps and other purchases to your iTunes library.  I also recommend you import your photos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and back up your contacts separately (either by syncing them to iCloud, or using an app like My Contacts Backup).  This is because pictures and contacts are the most common things that people seem to not recover when restoring to their backup.

  • Backed up Iphone 3 before updating to 4.2.  Now all my info (contacts, photos etc) are from 2 years ago.  It did sync a current backup??

I backed up my Iphone 3 before updating to 4.2.  Now all my info (contacts, phone, calendar, apps, books) from the last 1 1/2 years is gone.  Where is all my current stuff?  Why will it not restore my current info?  Thanks!!

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • HT1296 How can I save my stuff on my ipad before factory resetting it?

Apple said that I need to factory reset my ipad but how can I save my stuff because I payed for like 5 apps and and 29 songs. I don't want to delete them if I don't have to. Thanks

Do you use iTunes to sync your iPad with a computer ?
If so, do a sync before you reset your iPad and everything will be saved ready for the reset iPad.
If not, anything you paid for using the App Store will still be available to you.  The App Store knows you paid for them and will just put them on your iPad again.

  • I can't sync/back up iPhone data to my computer b/c iPhone screen is shattered and i cant unlock it to enter in my passcode. How can I sync my broken iPhone with my computer and back up my data so I can sync and transfer the data to my replacement iPhone?

I can't sync my iPhone and back up my data with my computer because iTunes says to enter the passcode into my iPhone to unlock it, but I am unable to unlock and enter in my passcode on my iPhone because the screen is shattered. I have my replacement iPhone with me and I'm not going to activate it until I can sync/get the data from my broken iPhone. I have the envelope to send my broken iPhone back to the Verizon store or whatever so that's not a problem. I just can't sync my old iPhone with my computer.
    Thanks.

No I haven't synced my iPhone with the computer I'm currently using. The computer that I normally sync my iPhone with is being repaired.
I read a nearly identical question to mine (in which you answered) and I found my the answer. Thanks!
Now I have a few more questions: If I mail my broken iPhone to Asurion, will I be able to get my data off of my iPhone once Asurion has it? And what will happen to my old iPhone and the data on it if I activate my replacement iPhone? Will my broken iPhone just become de-activated and will the data be erased or lost or something? Could I still sync it (with the computer ir originally synced with) and back up the data?
    Thanks.

  • IPhone 4 16gb Factory Reset with "Other" showing up question

i just factory unlocked the iphone 4 with my provider. i did a full factory reset and set up as a new device.
currently it displayed 439 MB "Other" and 13.27 GB Free. i understand that a part of the 16gb is used for the ios operations. so that i should have somewhere between 13.6 - 13.8 GB of actual free space. i am wondering what the 439mb of "Other" is and if its something i can ger rid of.

There will always be "Other" on a device, it is the OS, SMS/MMS/iMessages, and various other things that do not fit into the other defined catergories.
The difference between the 13.x GB available and the advertised 16GB capacity is NOT iOS.  It is merely a difference in the way the capacity is advertised versues actual capacity.
