Backing up Ipod touch

I have not been able to do a backup on my Ipod touch 4th generation since installing the new update....my Iphone 4 is fine but not the ipod. Any ideas on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

What error message are you getting?
Can iTunes sees your iPod touch?
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to back up my ipod touch to an external hard drive directly. I know it is possible connecting the external to the computer and doing the simple drag and drop but would rather just by pass connecting to the computer and use the ipod directly. As other users have identified, playlists present on iTunes on laptop but not on iPod touch 4G after iOS6 update except when select edit. Can I get them back? Not wasting time messing around. Is there a repair for deep back scratches ipod touch 5th gen?

I was so irresponsible. I got out of the car without knowing that my iPod touch was on my lap, and my iPod fell on the ground. The disappointing part was it has a deep scratches on the side because it slid and the volume buttons were scratched to. I'm looking on the internet if there's a repair for deep back scratches, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything that would help my case. Hoping someone could help me!

You can try fingernail polish or acrylic paint of the right color. However, I would just get a case that covers the scratches then best you can.

While Jolly Giant's advice is sound, it only applies if your music is in your iTunes library on your iBook, from what I can understand from your post this is not your situation.
To retrieve your music from your touch I would suggest you read the (famous) post by "Zevoneer" (Thank you Zevoneer.)

He explains how to get your music off without risking losing it, you will need to use your laptop or another computer but I should think the music could be saved directly through to your ext. HD, read carefully, when you have finished make sure you back up elsewhere properly.

Can't move video and pix files back to iPod Touch from desktop computer

I moved (via drag-and-drop in Windows) video and picture files from an iPod Touch (iOS 5.1.1) to a Windows 7 desktop computer. I want to copy some of them back, but it won't let me drag-and-drop to copy them back to the iPod. How do I get the files back on the iPod? I know that the "disk mode" is not available on the Touch. Also, although the iPod shows up in iTunes on my desktop computer, these video and picture files (Quick Time Movies, JPEGs, etc.) don't show up there. So, I'm out of ideas. A related question: how do I scan the iPod using my Windows 7 desktop computer's anti-virus application (McAfee)? Normally, when I right-click on a device on the desktop computer, it offers me the ability to scan it for viruses. Not only does it not give me this option for the iPod; the iPod doesn't even show up as a hard drive; it shows up in the window as a separate "flavor" of drive. Is there a way to make Windows 7 think that the iPod Touch is just another USB-connected drive; i.e., is there a way to mimic the disk mode option that is available on other models of the iPod other than the Touch?

Trouble backing up iPod Touch.

Hello, I recently updated my 2nd generation 8GB iPod Touch to the newest software version, which required a backup, and then a wipe of my iPod. After the update, I put everything back onto my iPod that had been there before. A few days ago I purchased several songs and a movie, so I figured I should do a backup. When I plugged the iPod in, iTunes did not even recognize the iPod, and would no let me sync or backup unless I restored the iPod (wipe).
My question is, how do I backup my things without deleting them?

Ok, let me clarify, iTunes sees that my iPod is plugged in, but it does not recognize everything I already have stored on my iPod. When It's plugged in, and I'm on the device tab, I can't view any of the music or if the software is up to date. All I see is a message saying to restore (wipe) the iPod.

Everything should be on your computer in itunes. Just sync it back to the ipod.
Certainly you did not update without making sure that everything on your ipod was also on your computer and your backup copy was up to date.
