Backing up iTunes files for iPhone

I am running Windows XP and want to do a backup of all of the files related to the iPhone (iTunes too?) onto a CD. I need to know exactly what files to back up and where (in what directories) they are located. I just don't want to loose everything if the computer crashes.

  • ITunes store for Mac does not find albums, iTunes store for iPhone is OK

When looking for an artist on iTunes store for Mac, the search returns no result.
When looking for the same artist (Paddy Milner in the Music store), I can find this artist in iTunes store for iPhone.
I tried another artist (Alice Russell), same thing.
Is there something happening with iTunes store for Mac?

After upgrading to iTunes 12 on WinXP it did not connect to Gracenote.
    I found this solution.
    Solution:
    Exit iTunes
    Press the WinLogoKey+R
Type in %appdata% and press return
    Double click on Apple Computer
    Double click on iTunes
Take a back up of the file iTunesPrefs.xml as a precaution (copy to some safe area)
    Delete the file iTunesPrefs.xml
    Start iTunes again
    Good Luck!

  • All backup/sync files for Iphone lost on old PC, anyway to sync with new PC without losing music, photos, contacts and texts?

All backup/sync files for Iphone lost on old PC, anyway to sync with new PC without losing music, photos, contacts and texts?

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your iphone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your device got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
Apps can be downloaded again for free, in the US music as well. Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Where are the backup files for iPhone stored on windows 7?

Can't find backup files for iPhone on pc using windows 7. Other posts list a path but the folders listed do not show up on my pc. Lost several file entries when updating to ios5. Files that were shown dated from an older backup.

As an addendum, if I need to, and hopefully won't, unless I switch computers, how can I revert from a copy of a different backup?  Thanks. :-)

  • ITunes 'sync' for iPhone 6 now 'greyed' out?

Yesterday and today the Sync at the lower right corner of the iTunes Mark's iPhone Summary screen is greyed out. I've never run into this before. I've disconnected the phone, rebooted the phone, open and closed iTunes. As a further test I checked iTunes to write over the iphone's Contacts, Appointments and Notes. The lower right changed to Apply/Revert, I clicked Apply, The top sync info screen flashed a couple of times but did not go through the sync process.
    Any suggestions?
    Mark

Since I couldn't find an edit option to my initial post, here's a few more observations:
The box 'automatically sync with iPhone when connected' is checked.
I rebooted the computer with the two USB port connectors unplugged (iPod and iPhone) then reconnected them after the computer finished loading windows.
I checked 'sync with this iPhone over WiFi' and unplugged the phone. Apply/Revert appeared, I hit Apply. The top sync screen said 'starting to update files, the progress bar appeared for about 1/8" (~10 seconds) then disappeared. I unchecked sync with WiFi.

  • I am trying to free up space on my hard drive. I am wondering what if any of the itunes files for apps or music can be deleted without affecting the use of them in the future if they are loaded on my i phone and i pad 2?

When I search my hard drive to find space for freeing up memory I have a lot of files for Apps, and music.  I am wondering if these are pertinant and need to be kept on my hard drive, or if I can remove them in any way.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I am going to revise my question to this.  If I compress my itunes folder which would save me a considerable amount of space will this make the music and apps information stored in there unsyncable?

  • My hard disk is damaged and i have no external hard drive, and i was wondering, if i sent my computer to Apple, would they back up my files for me before repairing it?

My hard disk has been damaged for about 4 months now. When I ran the disk repair under disk utility, it told me to back my files and send it in for repairs. My problem is that I had a external hard drive, but I lost it, so I obviously can't back up my files. Also I tried using other external hard drives and that didn't work, pretty sure it was because they were not formatted for a mac. So my question is that if I send my computer to Apple, for repair, that would they back up my files there before repairing my computer. It could be a dumb question but at least I asked. Also my mouse pad no longer works. The "clickability" of it stopped about 3 months or so after getting the computer and just around last Christmas the mouse would not click anymore at all, it would move if one put there fingers on the mousepad but it would not "touch click" anymore. So yeah, help!
And the OS X was still a snow leopard, not sure the number of the OS.

Can't you just get another external drive, format it for Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and backup some if not all of your files? Apple's not in the data recovery business. You should have maintained a backup and now it might be too late. Your best bet would probably be just to call it a loss and buy both an internal, to put in your machine, and an external, for backup purposes. You can boot from your installer disc, format the 'new' internal and begin restoring your apps at least.
I'll never understand why some people don't have backups. Drives fail. It's best to have redundant backups so that all three or four drives don't all fail at once.
Sheesh - I know that I'm not helping your problem but maybe now you've learned your lesson and others will as well.

  • Problem keeping resource files for iPhone/iPad builds in sync

I recently created a new target for iPad by upgrading my target for iPhone, which seemed to work fine. However, since then I have had problems when I make changes to the plist files that I have grouped under Resources.
When I upgraded the target, it created a new folder for iPad resources called Resources-iPad. This only contained the nib files -all the other plist files I have containing data are still in the Resources folder.
When I added a new plist file to Resources and try to load it using the bundle path, it gives me different paths for the iPhone/iPad versions, in .../Application Support/iPone Simulator/4.2/Application/...
However, the path of the file I am trying to load is of the form myApp./MyFile.plist, and I can't seem to open the app in the bundle path directory in Finder.
I've tried things like making clean, etc. Are there any steps you need to take to keep the resource files of the iPad target in sync with the iPhone one once it has been created?

I created the new target using Xcode>Project>UpgradeCurrentTargetForIpad. This created another folder under .../Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.2/Application/... with a different serial number. The new folder contains a new app, myApp-Upgraded, which corresponds to the bundle path it will use when this target is run.
I presume it's due to the file path existing in the original app, but not in the upgraded one. The file will be found when the original target is run, either on the device or the simulator, but not when the upgraded target is run on either, but I don't know how to make the upgraded target reference the correct resources.

  • Back to my Mac for iPhone

I'd like to see Apple provide Back to my Mac for the iPhone. Since Apple already provides screen sharing for the Mac, it'd be great to extend this function to the iPhone. Seems like a no-brainer. I have RemoteTap which works some of the time, but if Apple did it, it would likely be more robust since they already have done it for Macs.

  • Notified of iTunes update for iPhone; tried to download; phone inoperable all day. screen shows itunes logo and cable

I was notified of an iTunes update for my iPhone; I tried to download, but am just showing the screen with the iTunes logo and a picture of a cable end. Phone has been inoperable all day.

    Hey there Gina,
It sounds like you were updating your phone, and now it is unresponsive with an iTunes and usb cable on the screen. This appears to be recovery mode, and you should be able to restore the device using the following article to get that install completed:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, then reset the device with the following article, and then attempt the restore with the above article:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Download/sync photos from phone- lost itunes file for syncing

i can't find the itunes file i used to sync my phone. so when i attempt to sync, it says photos will be replaced etc...
is there another way to get my photos off the phone without losing them?

First, you don't use iTunes to move photos from your phone to the computer. You use iTunes to move photos from the computer to the phone.
When you first plug in the phone to your Mac, you should see iPhoto open up and all the images appear. From there, you can select the images you want to transfer to your Mac.

  • What is exactly stored in the Backup ITunes files for the IPhone?

I am thinking about allowing iphone connectivity via Active-sync in our Exchange 2007 environment. I am familar with the intergration and management of Active-sync with the Iphone however, I do have concerns with the backup feature on the ITunes software. I know it backs up the iphone but what does it exactly backup? I am mainly concerned with corporate emails/informatoin that are synched from my email servers and then cached locally on the iphone itself. Does it store any of this information, emails or corporate directory within this backup file? I want to ensure that this information is not stored on users local machine if they exit or leave the company. Your input would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

No, email is not stored in the backups and is downloaded once you click the mail icon.
When restoring from backups, mail always shows no unread messages for 15 minutes or until you click the mail icon. The inbox will appear blank for a short time as there is no cache from the restore and messages headers begin to download automatically.
I cannot say for sure as I have not dissected the backup files, but it is highly unlikely backups store this data as it will quickly become out of sync with the mail servers and thus rather useless. The behavior I noted when restoring from a backups above seems confirm this.
