Backing up iTunes folder, best way to just backup changes (extra to TM backu

Hi
I now have my iTunes library running off a USB powered portable HDD. I have setup Time Machine to back up the iTunes library from here to.
I also however as an extra backup, copy the iTunes folder to my NAS. When I add stuff to iTunes, I dont want to keep copying the whole folder over to the NAS, so how can I easily just copy over whats new?
Any easy way to do this?
cheers

again, Carbon Copy Cloner is free and can be configured to incrementally backup any changes. it can also be scheduled to run @ certain times or e.g. when the target disk is mounted.
i'm just not 100 % certain if CCC can backup from a NAS. check the site. however, ChronoSync will be able to do that.
my iTunes lives on a 2 TB firewire drive. i have an identical 2 TB drive acting as backup. when the backup drive is mounted, CCC automatically kicks in, compares the two disks, and copies the new content over. it's fire-and-forget if you will.

  • Consolidating all iTunes libraries back to iTunes folder

I need some advice/confirmation on what is the approach to consolidate all iTunes libraries / files back under the one default iTunes folder location. Some time ago I ran out of disk space on the c: drive so I used the iTunes option and started directing all the iTunes Music to my D: drive [ location being D:\iTunes\iTunes Music. It appears that the Album Covers folder also gets saved to this D: drive location - is that correct? Anyway I now have a bigger hard drive and would like to consolidate all libraries back to C: under the default iTunes folder location, as a precursor toward migrating to an Apple Mac environment. If I use the iTunes advanced/consolidate command will all this be brought back under the C:iTunes folder? Do I have to change the point back to C: iTunes or specify default location some how? Will the Album Covers folder also get merged back under c:iTunes? How do I confirm it is all sweet before I delete duplicate iTunes files off of d: drive? Apologies for being rather verbose, but I really want to get this right the first time! .. future Apple'r.

*If I use the iTunes advanced/consolidate command will all this be brought back under the C:iTunes folder?*
No it won't. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
However once you've consolidated everything in the current location you can then copy the iTunes Music folder back to the C Drive yourself and point iTunes to the new location. The album artwork folder should be in your iTunes folder (not the iTunes Music Folder). The default location for iTunes if you are using the C Drive is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Inside the iTunes folder are the iTunes Music folder, the iTunes Library files and the artwork folder. • Best way to remove all changes

What is the best way to remove all changes that were done to an image in Camera Raw, to get the image back to the way it was originally?

Thanks for the suggestion. That would probably work if the file was still open in Camera Raw. But when the file has been opened in Camera Raw, changes are made, then click Done and the image is closed -- the next time it is opened in Camera Raw, Alt/Option clicking the Reset button does not return the image to it's original condition.

  • Time Machine not backing up iTunes folder

    Hi.
I am having an issue with Time Machine on my MBP running 10.5.5. I currently have 2 TM backups on a 400gb external hard drive. Each backup is roughly 45gb. However, both times, my iTunes folder not been backed up. I checked the Time Machine options and nothing is being excluded.
Is there a way to make sure this folder is backed up?
    Thanks,
    markzegarelli

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I mean that Time Machine has backed up 2 times to this drive.
To expand a bit further, when I browse the disk in Finder, and navigate to where the back up of the music folder should be, (eg. backups.backupdb/<computer name>/2008-10-27-030029/<hd name>/Users/<user>/Music) all I see is an alias. Clicking the alias presents an error which says "The alias 'Music' could not be opened because the original item can not be found."
    Thanks again.

  • Backing up itunes folder to a secondary hard drive

How can I set up iTunes to back up songs to a secondary hard drive instead of to a CD?
    Thanks.

Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to the external drive and copy the entire thing.
If you want to test that it worked or would like to actually start using it from that location instead, use these instructions when you start iTunes to point it to the new location...

If you are just testing, then close iTunes after you verify it works, and restart iTunes again with the same instructions and point it back to your internal drive (original) location.

  • Backing up iTunes folder

I have my iTunes library located on an external firewire drive (Source). I have made a backup of that folder to my Time Capsule by merely dragging and dropping (Destination). Now, I'm curious about how to keep these two folders "in sync". I put "in sync" in quotes because actually what I want is the Destination to be a mirror image of the Source and not actually synced. Once in a while, I delete stuff from iTunes which results in the Source having music files deleted. I want to keep those files deleted so how do I make sure that the Destination (or Copy of iTunes) makes sure that it is a mirror image of the Source?
What programs out there can help? I have PersonalBackup version4 and I don't think performs this particular function. Thanks.

  • Backed up iTunes folder, need to add files to new installation. How to?

    Hi all,
Basically my Mac HD had some problems which forced me to backup by copying the entire iTunes folder as found in username/Library/ and save to disk.
I am now back up and running with a fresh installation of Leopard and would like to re-add all of my music and other data, as it was on my previous install.
Which of the files out of the iTunes folder do I need to copy over, and will it be a smooth transition?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Move the entire iTunes folder back into the Music folder of your home folder. If you erased the hard disk and backed up the iTunes folder in the Library folder but not the copy in the Music folder, your iTunes library has been erased and needs to be reimported or redownloaded.

  • Time Machine not backing up iTunes folder Proper

I was browsing TM latest backup of my system and noticed that there was one file of iTunes it wasn't backing up "iTunes Music Library.XML" file wasn't included in the backups, anyone know why?

I'm seeing .xml files in my TM backups, however for whatever reason it's not backing up the iTunes "iTunes Music Library.xml" the "iTunes Library.itl" is included in the backup, and all other files and folders under iTunes. I have send this into Apple via the OS X feedback, I see lots of tweaks to TM in the future, after Apple see all the issues people are having with it, as well as suggestion people have forwarded on via feedback.

  • What is the best way to achieve backup and storage by combining TC and external HD?

    Hi,
By reading various posts I came to the conclusion that my recently bought 2TB TC (still in the box) needs to be combined with an external HD (not bought yet) if I want both network (WIFI) storage and safe backup.
Could someone please confirm what the best way of organising the two devices is and advice on the various steps I will need to take?
See below for some extra information:
I want to back up a Mac Book Pro with 250 GB HD and potentially a HP laptop (250 GB as well).
Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
The storage will need to be accessible to both machines. It will mostly be pictures.
Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
With regards to the external hard drive, are models like Western Digital Element or Seagatte Expansion suitable to stay plugged in the TC 24/7? Will they not overheat?
My initial idea is to use the WIFI facility of the TC box. I can use the WIFI facility of the modem/router is more appropriate.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
    Denis

The drives you are backing up are small. There is no real need to use external drive but you do need a backup if you store files on the TC.. for just backups that is not necessary.
You cannot partition the TC but you can create a disk image for using with data files.. ie the PC backup.
    Read Q3 here http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
iPad is backed up to itunes.. or to cloud.. it is not able to see the TC drive at all without an app. You can manually copy files to the TC using filebrowser app but there is no auto backup software in the iPad to other than itunes.
    It will mostly be pictures.
Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
So you are not backing up, you are storing files.
You cannot access files in a Time Machine backup except by restoring them to the Mac. The PC cannot see them at all. That means you are not backing up.. you are storing files, even if just copies of the files. To do that you just copy via finder or windows explorer.
There are various scripting methods to ensure these photos are synced on all the devices. .but that is not what a backup software does.
If you want to use USB drive that is fine, they can stay attached 24/7. The disk will spin down generally when not in use.
    They will not overheat.
But it is much faster to copy files to the USB drive plugged into the computer than on the TC.. the USB link on the TC is slow.. less than half the speed of the same drive on the computer.. much slower than the TC internal drive. It might be better to plug a USB drive directly into a computer.

  • Beginner question: Best way to do backups ?

    Hello all :-)
Our setup: PPC powered XServe running latest OS X 10.5.x release; server is located at a server housing centre; will be used for webhosting and e-mail as well as some small web applications.
I'm now in search for a way to perform backups on a regular base including not just user data but also the entire operating system and its configuration (IP, DNS, domain setups, user mail accounts, etc.).
If I had the server at hand at the office, I simply would clone the harddisk. So I can mount it and take either some lost files or even replace the running system HD with that in case of big trouble and get a running server back in minutes.
However since I have no physical access to server (at least it would mean about several hours of driving), I'm not sure how that can be solved. I currently see just one option for us:
We are going to use the server with two additional harddisks for backup. So I could connect to the server using Remote Desktop and run a harddisk clone utility. Then unmount the drive and ask the hosting support department to swap harddisks if necessary.
However I don't like this solution because we have no local copy of the clone here (and who knows...). Guess files may get downloaded by FTP/SSH, but I'm not sure if this would really work (much data to transfer).
So my questions to the community:
If above option is the only one, can I simply use Time Machine for that purpose ? Where can I find more information about recovery (guess the OS DVD is required and makes it necessary to get hands on the server) ?
What other options do we have ? Is there a good harddisk cloning app that is able to do remote as well as local backups you can recommend to us ? Our main priority is quick data recovery and a solution that is really backing up anything (just for backing up user files there would be no reason to clone the entire harddisk...).
I hope that I was able to describe our problem. I'm looking forward to your replies and suggestions :-)
    Benjamin.

    You can use:
    - DefaultAuthenticator to directly create users on Weblogic,
    - SQL Authenticator or Read-only SQL Authenticator to retrieve users from DB
    - LDAP or Windows NT Authentication Provider to retreive users from various LDAP servers or MS Active Directory
or you can combine multiple authenticators :)
What you will choose depends on your use case.

  • What's the best way to create and change local workstation account details?

    Hi,
I need to change local password of an account on a number of our domain based machines. Or create the user if it doesn't exist.
We have over 200 machines so this will need to be done as a bulk job.
I've looked into doing this by GPO Preferences, but it appears that MS have removed this functionality with a hotfix.
What's the best way of doing this now, as I would have through that this is a feature that most organisations would require.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I understand you. However, based on my understanding, from the standpoint of security, Microsoft has chosen to deprecate this function, for it’s not secure to set passwords
    in Group Policy Preferences.

  • Is there a way to just publish changes?

I just published a behemoth travel-photo diary site, and it's becoming extremely cumbersome to re-publish the /entire/ site when I need to make just a few tweaks.
Anyway to publish just the changes?
I publish to a folder and upload to my own server. I have a .mac acccount but I don't like the extensions they tack on - it makes for lengthy links.
Also, side question, anyway to make the slideshow last longer each slide? It's awfully fast.

  • Best way to isolate and change color of object

I have a client that wants hundreds of product photos edited in 8 weeks. The color of the product item needs to be changed for each of the color choices available. The product is shown in a full room display, meaning lots of background imagery and color.
What's the best (quickest and most accurate) way to select the product? What's the best way to change it to the accurate color?

Selective color, color range, replace color, convert to LAB, use channels...all methods work. But in the production of "hundreds" of images, you have to outline objects and set up the color shift through adjustment layers. Then it's actionable and not pure drudgery!
