Backing Up iTunes onto CD(s)?

I'm trying to back up all my music and videos onto a CD, but when I click on "Back Up to Disk" and then "Back up entire iTunes and library", it says thaat there is a file larger than the CD (Pirates of the C, I think). Even if I can't back that up, how do I back the rest of my music up? thanks.

Uncheck ( the fourth symbol on the chart ) the Pirates file in your Library display and try again.

Why won't PC let me back up iTunes onto disc?

I know I am doing it right. I click on Back Up To Disc.
It checks..checks..then says it will take 14 discs to back up. Fine. The box says 'Data Disc' or 'Cancel.'
I select Data disc as that's what a CD-R is..and it goes in and comes back out. These are new Maxell CD-Rs.
I can't seem to get it to take DVD-R's either.
Why?

So I try again. Rather than back up the entire collection, I select 'backup purchases.' and...it does. perfect.
so i try the whole thing again, i get the YOUR COLLECTION WILL NOT FIT ON AN ENTIRE DISC and the options are ? for help...DATA DISC...and CANCEL. I hit DATA DISC...and it pops the disc out at me.

Backing up itunes onto disk

What is the easiest way to backup your itunes catalog to a thumb drive, a USB one? I know how to do it to a disc but what is the easiest way to do this?

Click on the item in the Finder's sidebar named Music and drag the iTunes folder inside to the thumb drive.

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not your "account." The "account" you have for iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use when purchasing or downloading from the iTunes Store. If these songs came from music CDs that you imported into iTunes, those songs are not related to your Apple ID.

How are they not "recognized"? Are the songs still listed in your iTunes music library, but grayed out? They no longer appear in your iTunes library at all?
If you search your computer (not in iTunes) for the song files, using one of the song names, can you find the song files?

There is a file in the iTunes library folder that contains your playlist information is the iTunes Library.xml file.
Try and find the file, usually located in one of these locations depending on your OS:
Operating System
Default location of iTunes Folder
Mac OS X
/Users/[your username]/Music
Microsoft Windows XP
\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
Microsoft Windows Vista
\Users\[your username]\Music\
Microsoft Windows 7
\Users\[your username]\My Music\
Then you can import this file to your iTunes Library like this:
1. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
2. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file
3. Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

First, is your iTunes account on your computer, the account you set up your iPad with and the one you sync regularly with? If yes, just reconnect your iPad to your computer, via USB and open iTunes. After your iPad syncs, and you see the message that it's OK to disconnect, don't disconnect. Click once on the iPad from the left side of your iTunes screen. This will open your iPad in iTunes. You would then click on Videos and you'll see the TV shows you downloaded. You can choose individual shows, or choose to sync all videos to your iPad. After you've moved what you wanted back, click apply, then sync again and you should be fine.

Hello, I had to do a complete recovery of my computer, so before I did that I backed up all of my itunes onto a disc. Now I put that disc in the computer and I imported all the info back into itunes but it wont actually play the songs unless I have the disc inserted too. What am I doing wrong? I backed up library onto external drive. (itunes directory - with Album artwork, itunes music directory, and xml/itl files)
Now I am trying to upload music back to a new Windows XP computer - I have new itunes version.
First I moved/copied the itunes directory whole to the new computer - then opened itunes and the library.itl and library.xml reverted to 5 and 11kb
Then tried just moving those two files - still nothing
Help - as I have over 28MB of music I am trying to recover.

The "missing file" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. I can provide a step by step guide if you give me the two paths.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

Well you must have made a mistake somewhere. The last instruction of step four reads:
When you've found your iTunes library folder, drag that folder to your external hard drive. This will begin the iTunes backup. The amount of time the backup will take depends on the size of your library. When the transfer is done, your backup is complete and your external hard drive can be disconnected.
Normally dragging content from to a new location on a different drive will result in a copy action which is what you were supposed to do. At a guess you somehow managed to move the iTunes folder. Then when you started iTunes it created a new blank library for you assuming it had just been installed rather that raising a warning.
Close iTunes. Rename the iTunes folder on the internal drive as iTunes (Empty) then copy the iTunes folder from the external back into the User's Music folder. Start iTunes. All should be well.
When you've made sure it all works please read my User Tip and use that method to backup in future. Since you already have a folder with the backup in place you can skip the "Make New" operation in the fourth step and simply choose the external folder.

I had gotten a similar problem, except with "provider services", i believe, but i solved it by copying sqlite3.dll from E:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to E:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support. doing that solved my first problem, but now i have been getting the error described in this topic (unable to load dataclass info... etc.). i tried reinstalling itunes (i already had 9.1.1, and thats what i reinstalled) by using the method described on apples site (using the "remove programs" tool in the control panel) and then downloading and installing itunes. when i opened it again, i still got the same error, and just now i got an error saying "the instruction at "0x00aadb6b" referenced memory at "0x00000008". the memory could not be read" it gave me the option to cancel and debug, or to press ok and terminate the program. I tried pressing cancel, and the popup went away but nothing else happened. a minute later the popup was back, so i pressed ok and itunes quit. Upon opening Itunes again, i got the very same error. sorry for the long post, but its really been bugging me. thanks for any help you might give, and if you need anymore info, feel free to contact me.
