Backing up iWeb pages in iDisk

I recently created a web site using iWeb that accounted for 9.8 MB of storage use, according to the Inspector. After backing it up in my iDisk account and returning to iWeb, the Inspector now showed 52 MB of storage use. Why the difference? Does this mean that every time my site is downloaded, 52MB is transferred?
Thanks

and returning to iWeb
Do you mean "publishing" to your .Mac account? If not, what is it you are "backing up"? To back up an iWeb site you need to make a copy of your Domain File somewhere.

  • Backing up iWeb pages

I feel embarrassed to ask this question but how do I back up my iWeb pages? There isn't a "save as" option. I would like to back up both to my idisk as well as an external hard drive.
    Thanks

There is just one file at that location called "domain". If I drag that to my external hard drive, will that be adequate?
Yes. Before proceeding, select the drive in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu; if its format doesn't start with Mac OS Extended, use the DIsk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create a large enough disk image on it and copy it there instead.
Will my computer get confused about which hard drive to access when opening iWeb?
No. Unless an alternate domain is opened manually, the one listed above will be opened automatically.

  • How can I recover my iweb pages from idisk?

    Hello Everyone! Need your help!
I recently had to restore my system and completely forgot to make a seperate file to store my iweb. I found a copy of everything on my idisk but can not figure out how to get it back to iweb. Any ideas? Please help! Fairly new Mac user.....
    Thanks!
    Kay

Basically, you won't ever find a way to do it because iWeb cannot import the files stored on your iDisk. iWeb is not an html editor.
You are looking at re-building your site, although you can use what is on iDisk to cut and paste.

  • IWeb pages gone! - can I reload them back into iWeb from my iDisk folder

    Hi,
I reinstalled OSX on my iMac (dont ask...) but I forgot to save any info from iWeb on pages that are aready published. I reinstalled OSX but now iWeb is empty but my web pages are still active and the whole lot is still in my iDisk web folder.
Obvious question coming up.... can I get the pages / folder re-imported into iWeb?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Iweb page on Idisk but can't open in iweb?

I make a photo webpage and put it in a separate site on my Idisk. Later, I decided I wanted that page on my main site, I dragged it there but it never appeared on my idisk. So, I opened my idisk, found the name.files & name>html and moved those to my main site. I can access them from the web but I cannot open that "name" in Iweb. I don't feel like starting over from square 1 but I would like to edit that photo webpage. Am I out of luck or what? Odd that Iweb does not have an "open" command.

iWeb doesn't open html files. You can only edit
published pages or Sites by opening the iWeb app. If
you have any published pages or Sites they will
appear in the left side window pane.
Since you must have published to a "folder" and then
uploaded those files by dragging them to a folder in
your iDisk Sites folder (now moved) there is nothing
for iWeb to edit except your original.
You would have to edit, then publish to folder, then
drag to the location of your files in your iDisk. If
everything goes right you'll be prompted that an
older version of the files exist. Click OK to replace
    them.
I didn't publish to a folder but to my .mac idisk. However, I was playing games here. The page of interest does not appear on the left side with my other pages. I will keep playing and if all else fails, redo it and learn from experience. Thanks.

  • Pages in iDisk - SITES - iWeb

In https://www.me.com/idisk/ - Home - Web - Sites - there are folders for my 3 websites.
And in https://www.me.com/idisk/ - Sites - iWeb - there are just titles of only some of the pages from one of my websites (the top of this column says 'iWeb Pages')
Have these in the iWeb folder got put there by some error I've made? Should/can I delete them safely?
    Thank you.

I don't know what the original URL looks like.
The url for iweb 08 sites is always like this:
    http://web.mac.com/username/sitename/pagename.html
    I've tried
    http://web.mac.com/scottgrabinger/iweb/sites/InsideTuscany
    http://web.mac.com/scottgrabinger/iweb/sites/InsideTuscany/Inside%20Tuscany.html
.Mac urls never have "iweb/sites" in the middle. You can see that none of your other urls are structured that way. The thing to try would be
    http://web.mac.com/scottgrabinger/InsideTuscany
    which works fine for me.
I also get the "announcement" box that says "published to www.insidetuscany.org"
Just ignore the announcement box, it is not telling you anything that is relevant here.

  • Orphaned iWeb files on iDisk, how to get them back?

    Hello,
I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled iLife '06. I do have a little iWeb website I created before reformatting my hard drive and now it's orphaned on the server. I do not have a copy of the web site locally on my PowerBook. Is there a way to recover or synchronize the iWeb website files on the remote server locally?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
    1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 12   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No, there is no way to import these already published files back into iWeb. As you probably know, if you did not have a chance to back up the "Domain" file, then you will no longer have the ability to edit or publish your site. That's what has led to your site files being orphaned. The most you can do is to leave your orphaned site online until you have a chance to rebuild and republish your site. In the meantime you can salvage whatever graphics/images that are on this orphaned site to use in recreating your site. Just load the site up in Safari and then start dragging things from the page to your desktop.

  • Getting back my old iweb page?

I had to reinstall my OS, and now, I have my iweb site up on the web, but when I go to update it, since I reinstalled, there is a "clean site" on iweb.
How do I get my site back?

If you don't have it on your hard drive and didn't make a backup you will have to rebuild your site.
You cannot get your website data back into iWeb from the published files.

  • Is it possible to get published to folder files back into iweb?

    Hello,
I have created a website in iweb and published it to a folder and to my .mac account. I have recently closed down my .mac account so I could reopen one with my new business name. In the meantime I have upgraded to Leopard which deleted my iweb application.I have got another copy of iweb but now when I open iweb it does not automatically open my website up. Does anyone know if it is possible to open my old website which I have Published to a folder in iweb so I can publish it to my new .mac site?
If i click on the html files in the folder it runs like the website but from that folder only. All the work is there I just can't find out how to get it back on the net.
Please help so I don't have to spend weeks re entering all the files back into iweb one by one!
    Thanks

You can upload your website files by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to get your website up and running.
To be able to publish changes you will have to do a search for the original domain.sites2 file and drop this into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
If you can't find it, then rebuilding is your only option. This is frustrating but doesn't take too long if you copy and paste all your text, images etc from the published files to your new iWeb pages.

  • HELP!  I must go back to iWeb 1.2 from iWeb 2.0.1

The latest version of iWeb doesn't work for me and I must go back. I know how to uninstall and reinstall my previous iWeb (I guess that means I have to go back to iLife 6.0 totally) but I do not know if there is a way to get my website back to the iWeb 1.2 without doing it from scratch (since it is currently converted to iWeb 2.0.1) and I do not have an old backup.
Has anyone been able to successfully convert back to iWeb 1.2?
If I don't convert, I am unable to update one of my websites that uses Dreamweaver 8 as the primary FTP editor but incorporates iWeb photo pages with the old iweb format that works great. The new format of iweb is totally incompatible and I can not use my photos with Dreamweaver.
( go to http://kanreikai.com and check out the photo pages. They were all made with iWeb 1.2, but the rest of the site is made with Dreamweaver). When displaying the new photo pages from iWeb 2.0.1 in Dreamweaver 8, there are no photos and Dreamweaver won't work with it. All help is appreciated. I really need to get back to the old way of doing it. I could even have sound in my slide show which I can't anymore with iWeb 2.0.1)
    Thanks,

To give more explanation of the main problem for me, it is this.
Under the previous version of iweb (iLife 6.0) I cold open any of my photo pages on my idisk (say photo-1.html, located in the Home_Page directory) into a browser and all pictures would display fine and all photo links and slideshow work fine. This is opening directly from my idisk in my .mac account.
Under the latest version of iweb (2.0.1+) if I open a photo page from the idisk with a browser I get the page with no photos and no slideshow. (although the link for slideshow is there).
If I go to my webpage directly with my browser, the photos and slide show work fine, but I cannot run them directly from my idisk like I could before. This is important to me because the photo-1.html and photo-1_files folders previously worked together (even in Dreamweaver) but now they do not.
Of course there are now other directories, like rss.js that calls up the photos, but since that folder and slideshow.html etc are all still located in the current directory for running the browser they should still work but they do not. NO photos or slideshow when run from the idisk. Only works directly from the website. This loss of capability is unacceptable to me because I need the photos to work directly from my idisk.

  • Linking MobileMe gallery back to iWeb

I have created a iweb 08 site which links to my mobileMe galleries but once you are inside the main gallery which contains all of the galleries there is no way of linking back to my site.
    Am I missing something ?
    Thanks in advance...

The obvious solution is to not use Aperture to create your gallery.
Apple has included some dirt-easy ways to share your files via galleries that export directly from your iApps. The galleries purpose are to quickly share files, like an Apple version of YouTube. If you want more control over the pages you have to create them yourself using iWeb. Make a picture or a movie gallery in iWeb and you can link it to other pages and play with the format ad nauseam. This is not hard to do. You can drag a whole set of picts into an iWeb page and it automatically generates the picture table. One thing that I have found is that to keep the pictures in the order I wish I drag them one at a time. iWeb uses some crazy scheme to determine the order they are in otherwise. (It is not by filename which would be logical.) You can easily arrange them on the page but I don't like having to do the extra step.
I looked at my galleries in my iDisk to see if the html might be editable. From what I can tell there is not editable html since there is no index pages. There may be a way to include an html "back" snippet but I can't see how. Apple has intentionally disabled the user controls on these galleries.

  • Lost iWeb pages on my computer

I published some pages with iWeb last year (before 08). I can see the pages when I go the the URL also from mobile me - BUT I have lost the ability to access that I can see from my laptop (I wanted to access so that I can delete the pages).
    Can anyone help me out?

You can delete the pages directly from your iDisk > Web folder > Sites folder via this page:
    http://me.com/idisk
...But if you want to do more than delete pages, you'll need iWeb's Domain file normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.

  • Adding Google Adsense to iweb pages

In a previous posting, I was told that I could add the adsense code into my iweb website. I publish via .mac and cannot locate where the html is on my mac in order to add the code I need...anyone who can walk me through that would be a real angel!
    Dave

    flyfisher...
I'll give you an example of how to locate the page.html file for you to edit. Then I'll give you general directions on how to add the HTML code that you get from Google...
    Example...
You have a page called "Widgets" as part of a site called "MySite" that you have made in iWeb. Then you publish it to .Mac. iWeb actually has copied all of your site files to your iDisk for you. To get at them, follow these steps...
    1. Mount your iDisk to your desktop. (Look under the Go Menu>iDisk>My iDisk)
    2. Double click on the iDisk icon that appears on your desktop
    3. Look for a folder called "Web". Click to open.
    4. You should see a folder in that called "Sites". Click to open.
    5. You should see a folder in that called "iWeb". Click to open.
    6. Now you should see a folder calle "MySite" (or whatever you named your site in iWeb). Click to open.
    7. Find the file called "Widgets.html" (or whatever your page is named in iWeb with the .html suffix)
This is the file that you must open up in TextEdit in order to edit the HTML. Before you open the file, though, make sure that you have changed the TextEdit "Open and Save" preferences to ignore rich text format. Then open the .html file. You should see all of your code there for this particular page.
Here are directions for adding the code...
    1. Decide where you want your banner and know exactly what dimensions you need.
    2. Insert a text box onto your page and adjust its size to exactly your dimensions.
    3. Type in some uniquely identifiable text like, "BANNERCODEHERE" without changing the font or anything else...just type it in.
    4. Publish your page with iWeb.
    5. Find the html file associated with your published page (either on your iDisk or in a folder depending on how you published) and open it in any text editor (like Microsoft Word, or Textedit, or anything).
    6. Scroll through the html file and locate your placeholder text, e.g. "BANNERCODEHERE".
    7. Replace the placeholder text with your html code and save your page. (Not save as...just save)
That's it. You should see your adsense ad banner show up where you placed the text box in iWeb.
Because iWeb republishes the html files whenever you update the your webpage, you will lose your changes and have to redo them to add your banners back everytime your page is published over.
    I hope this helps.

  • How do I manually enter code into an iweb page??

iweb blogging is not bad; but there are times when I want to enter html code by hand; maybe a form script or CSS code.
I tried inputting the code into the blog.html page, but it will vanish every time I update iweb.
So; how can I manually add code to an iweb page? Surely this is possible?
    thanks

Of course it's possible. Lots of us do that on our pages already. Two things to keep in mind...1. No way to do this via iWeb directly, so it involves editing the published html files, and 2. Because iWeb republishes the html files whenever you update the your webpage, you will lose your changes and have to redo them to add your HTML back.
The general directions are as follows (using banner code as an example)...
    7. Replace the placeholder text with your html code and publish your page.
That's it. You should see your html coded element show up where you placed the text box.
If any of this information is useful to you, please do me a favor and mark my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I would appreciate it immensely. Thank you.

  • Back to iWeb

I was an early adopter of iWeb (purchased the day it was announced) and quickly built a site for our family (http://icallison.com). After a few months of struggling with upload errors, enormous image sizes and slow load times, I abandoned iWeb and went back to Blogger hosted on my own server.
However, the last two updates (1.1 and 1.1.1) brought me back to try again and I am VERY pleased with the overall speed improvements and new features. A lot of the quirkiness is gone and the product seems more polished. The new themes are beautiful and upload times to my iDisk are MUCH faster. Members of my extended family using Windows also report the pages load faster and with fewer errors even in IE 6.
So, thanks Apple for the updates. iCallison.com is back on iWeb and .Mac and I am loving it.

Welcome back shuffle_pod! Glad your having a better time of it!
