Backing up KM Folders via Portal Drive

Hi Experts,
We've implemented Netweaver Portal 7.0 with SP14 for a local company. Company migrated all shared folders from filesystem into KM via Portal Drive.
Portal is running on a VMWARE machine with Linux OS.
Followings are common questions, when we implement a Document Management SYstem on KM. I'm writing my answers but need help in Q2 esp.
Q1: How to backup files in KM?
A1: KM repostory is default DBFS mode ad all files within KM are stored in DB. So backing up DB means backing up KM thus all files.
Q2: How to backup/restore single/multiple files in KM in case of accidental deletion?
A2: In case of accidental deletion, with SP14 "Deleted Items"  functionality given to KM and you can view and restore files deleted.
In case of permanent deletion, there is no option for KM file backup/restore other than DB.
Here we tried to simulate something following to backup files and restore in case of problem just like FileSystem document management:
On Backup Server, we installed Portal Drive and mapped the Portal KM Folders.
Then created a FileSystem backup on this mounted FS. But unable to backup in specific cases.
Not sure what is causing the problem, may be backup software, may be VMWARE architecture or may be linux or SAP portal for the last.
Here is the error code we get when we tried to backup KM Folders on a 32-bit windows 2003 server with Netbackup.
6/4/2008 2:14:53 PM - granted resource MediaID=@aaaae;Path=Z:\bck;MediaServer=bkcompany

May be this specific case is encountered by any of you
Does anyone have any solution or sample implementation like above.

  • Resource List Filter versus Portal Drive

    Hi all,
i have created own resource list filter and i found out that the class receives wrong input data. The input list of resources doesn't contain resources created via Portal Drive. Has somebody same problem? Thanks in advance for whichever advice!
    Regards
    Zbynek

    Hi Zbynek,
That sounds a bit strange. The resources are listed within the portal anyhow, but they are not passed to the filter implementation? I've never experienced that and I also have difficulties to imagine such a scenario.
Anyhow, if it is true, you definitely should open an OSS message about it. But first, double-check your situation!
    Hope it helps

Use the Organizer backup & restore method, starting the restore from the TLY file. Probably best to use a custom location as the XP file structure will be different. See this link for further help:

Can Time Machine back up a second external hard drive that is attached via usb to a Time Capsule?
    I have a iMac with 10.7.4

I want to back up the data on the external Hard Drive that is attached to the Time Capsule to the Tim Capsule using Time Machine.
Thanks for the clarification.  Unfortunately, that will not work.  You will need to connect the drive directly to your Mac if you want Time Machine to backup the drive to the Time Capsule.

I archive my older mail in folders by year and subject. I keep these folders in "Local Folders". Right now I have a lot of them that are just cluttering the view, but I do not want to delete them as tehy may be needed sometime latter. Is it possible to to offload these folders to hard drive and still be accessible via Thunderbird wgwnever I want, while "cleanning" the folder pane (would just have this year's mail).

It's not a feature of iTunes but can be done using various work-arounds.

  • Portal Drive and Cluster

    Hi all,
We received recommendation to start using portal drive instead of web browser in
order to access KM folders via WebDAV.
I have installed and configured Portal drive as described in SAP help.
Since we have a cluster installation, the server URL is the dispatcher URL.
When providing the dispatcher URL, portal drive fails to connect.
When providing one of the cluster servers url, connection is successful.
Does anyone know if it is possible to work with Portal Drive in a cluster installation
and if so, what configuration should be made in order for this to work?
    Thanks,
    Moti.

Well, this is supposed to work. If it doesn't, I would recommend to open a support message so the problem gets investigated.
    Best regards, Julian

  • Can we display associated functions when files are viewed via Oracle Drive

We are on Oracle Portal 10.1.4 and have customised it extensively. We have certain functionality available to the users on the files. these functionalities are provided using associated functions. The user community use WEBDAV commonly as a more easier interface to upload and update files on the Portal. This being our drawback on us providing our custom functiionality via associated functions. Can you please help on how we can enable the associated functions to be viewed via Oracle Drive or WEBDAV

Hi Jonathan. You've done a commendable job of isolating the problem. I'm not aware of any problem with a middle initial (and we have many users with a middle initial using the client here).
Please try again with WebFolders to verify that your colleague can get in correctly, but can't through Oracle Drive.
The Oracle Drive should be using the exact same mechanism.
If it doesn't work with WebFolders, then the user should reset their password, which should regenerate the DAV verifiers.
If it works with WebFolders, but not with Oracle Drive, you'll have to look at the Log file in
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Oracle\ODrive\cache\logs and see what exactly is sent to the sever, and what the error message is coming back.
Send that along to us, and we can take a look.

  • Time Machine won't recognize back up after I move external drive to Airport

I have a new 640GB exteranl drive that I bought to back up my Mac using TIme Machine. I plugged in the drive via USB (USB powered drive), then set up Time Machine and did the first back up successfully. I then plugged my exteranl drive into Airport Extreme so I could back up wireless in the future. Airport recognies the drive, and I can see the back up folders on the drive. However, Time Machine doesn't recognize those back up folders as my Mac.
I went into Time Machine SEttings, and repointed it to the same disk, and it tries to back up everything again, wirelessly. Any ideas how to get Time Machine to recognize the back up files made while I was "hard wired" to the Mac?

that's not possible. remote backups are stored differently. directly attached backups are stored directly in a folder on the drive. remote ones are stored inside a sparse bundle. you'll have to start a new backup sequence if you want to do remote backups.

  • I trying to backup movies that I have purchase from Iturnes onto a cd and my Macbook pro does not recognize any of the CD or DVDs that I tried,  nothing seems to work can I back up to a external hard drive?

I am trying to backup the movies and TV show that I purchase from Itunes onto a cd or DVD, and nothing seems to work.  I tried using CD-R, CD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW and they all failed. Is it possible to back up to an external hard drive instead of a CD?
    Tyler

I know this isn't a complete answer because I am not sure why or if your backups to CD/DVD are not working, but one thing I do know is yes you indeed can backup any of your iTunes Media (music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, etc.) to an external hard drive. In fact, it's recommended that you do this anyway (in case of a hard drive crash, computer being stolen, etc.)
You can manually back up your movies by finding them in your iTunes Media folder, or since you have a Mac you can just use Time Machine, which will automatically back up either your entire computer (or only certain folders and items if you want). It's pretty handy. I use a 1TB external and Time Machine to keep everything backed up including my iTunes

  • Can somebody please advise urgently... I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion. I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted

    Can somebody please advise urgently...
I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion.
I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted the folder off my desktop - and  following this - things started to go all weird...pages hanging, the coloured 'wheel of death' appeared for ages. So i had to employ a 'hard-boot' restart - as i had not other options.
I'm pretty sure i made copies of of files/apps/folders etc - however not so sure now as i cant even start up my laptop!!!
Can somebosy please help me urgently??!!!

Got the exact same problem, and I also did this operation many times before, from 500Gb to 750Gb, and then from 750Gb to 1 Gb. Not My HD got a little such complaining about bad sectors when in windows bootcamp, but still runs fine though.
So I bought a new 1Gb drive exactly same drive as the one thats getting sick. I did the clone thing, with super duper, CCC, DU, but no matter it will not boot when i move the new drive inside the macbook…….**** thing exuse me, but wasted so much time.
Now I get this strange feeling that something must have changed in the macbook itself. Just wondering if this could be a EFI "mac bios" prevention thing, they made just to sell more new computers, when you can't improve or fix your old one.
If so, then its pretty scary. If not then I simply can't figure out why this suddenly becomes a problem for so many people, as I see so many posts about this!!

  • Backing up photos to external hard drive, and exporting back to CF card on camera

iPhoto 5 on Mac Power PC G4, OS 10.4.11
backing up photos to external hard drive (LaCie) My iPhoto Library contains a number of files (such as 'Library.iPhoto' 'iPhoto.db' 'ThumbJPG.data' etc) and a number of folders with dates such as 2005 etc, containing folders within folders, none of which with any contents.
Is there a way I can organise just the photos on their own so that I can select just those to be backed up on my LaCie hard drive, without all those distracting and (apparently) unnecessary extra files and folders ?
exporting edited photos back to CF card on camera I have tried everything I can think of to export photos from iPhoto back to the CF card on the camera, without success. It must be possible to do ?

Edit: Note: It's been a while but the Export command may be in the Share menu on older versions...
    1. To back up an iPhoto Library
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    2. To Back up Just the Photos
Use the File -> Export command to export the images to where you want them.
BTW: there are no user-serviceable parts in the iPhoto Library Folder. Rooting around in there can cause damage.
    3. Edited Photos to CF Card is a two part process:
Exporting is just File -> Export. Choosing any setting except 'Original' and you'll get the Edited version.
The CF Card? Just drag and drop there.
But a couple of possible problems: Canon Cameras don't show up in the Finder. So you'll need to stick the card into a USB Card Reader for get them on there
Camera Cards are all formatted FAT. That means there's a limit to the number of items on the top level of the card: Workaround: Export the shots to a folder and drag that over
And, of course, if you want to see the shots in the camera, you'll need to put them in whatever specific folder it uses for the photos.

  • Backing Up Tiger w/ External Hard Drive

I am finally backing up my Macs!  I purchased an external hard drive and have successfully backed up my Macbook via Time Machine.  When I attempted to back up my iMac (10.4.11, Tiger) using the same hard drive, I notice there's a Time Machine icon on my desktop when it connects.  Do I backup my iMac differently than my Macbook (given the age difference)?  Do I drag and drop or copy the Mac HD into its own folder?

Time Machine does not run on Tiger.
Use either a separate HD, or a separate partition for those backups.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • SAPGUI for Windows via Portal - problem with frame

We are launching SAPGUI for Windows via Portal to drive single sign-on via AD.  Our problem is that when SAPGUI launches, it is contained within an IE browser frame that causes some of the SAPGUI screens to not fit on the screen well.  Those same screens fit just fine if we launch SAPGUI directly.
Is there any way to launch SAPGUI from Portal, with SSO enabled, but without the IE frame around it?

    Lonny,
The best way to authenticate users when they logon using SAP GUI for Windows, is to use SNC authentication in SAP GUi. Then, the browser iview will launch the GUI and the GUI will authenticate the user using their AD credentials issued during the Windows logon. You will need to setup an SNC library on both the ABAP system which the user is logged onto, and the workstation where SAP GUI is installed.
If you don't use SNC, and you just launch SAP GUI for Windows from browser, then an SSO2 ticket is used to authenticate the user to the ABAP stack, and this is not secure due to the fact that the SAP GUI session which is used to pass the SSO2 ticket is not protected - anybody can intercept the SAP GUI session, take the SSO2 ticket from this traffic and logon as that user - clearly this is bad security and needs SNC to make it secure.
    Thanks,

how do i recover music from old computer. its broken and i did not have the music backed up on any other hard drive.

OK, well, seems like you need to lose the attitude if you really want help.
There are several ways to get music from iTunes on your computer to your device.
The easiest is to sync directly with iTunes by connecting your device to your computer, selecting the device, setting up your Profile pages, and then clicking the Sync button to sync.
First you want to open iTunes and under Preferences>Devices, make sure that you are not syncing automatically:
Make sure that box is checked.
Then follow the instructions in the article below for either your computer or your Mac to set up your Profile pages and to sync your music via iTunes:
    WINDOWS IOS SYNC ITUNES 11
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
You can also directly download music from iTunes to your device by going to the iTunes icon, going to "Purchased", and selecting the items that are not on your device that show a little cloud next to them. Click on the cloud and the music will download.
You might also want to familiarize yourself with your iPhone 5 manual. It has all the answers you cannot find on Google or by trying to just do it by brute force. If you would take a little time to read about your device and how to use it, you might not be so frustruated and unnecessarily snarky to people who are trying to help:
