Backing up movies downloaded straight to Iphone

At christmas Itunes gave away a free copy of Lesbian Vampire Killers the movie. I downloaded this straight to my Iphone however I can't seem to find a way to back this up to Itunes to free some space for other movies or music. Please help.

The other option of transfer purchases from Iphone does all purchases other than the Movie. Since this is the only movie I have 'purchased' I wasn't sure if it just didn;t include movie purchases??
This will include all iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store that is available on your iPhone regardless where it originated - from your iTunes library on your computer or downloaded direct with your iPhone. If this content originated with your iTunes library and remains in your iTunes library, the content should not be duplicate in your iTunes library. If any is duplicated, you can delete the duplicates from your iTunes library.
Since an iPhone can be manually managed with music and videos with an iTunes library on a single computer only, there isn't as much benefit to doing this with an iPhone as there is with an iPod that supports disk mode and allows for transferring iTunes content from an iTunes library on more than one computer. If you sync Music instead, when purchasing a song with your iPhone, the song will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. The same applies to a movie downloaded from the iTunes store and this also applies to 3rd party apps.

No. You can't do that. You could delete some content on the iPad and download the movies onto the device to watch them. Most paid content can be downloaded again at no cost as long as you use the same Apple ID you used to make the purchases and as long as the content is still available for download.

Apple don't have phone support, only email. Are you in a country where you can re-download films for free ? If not, or if it re-downloads in the same state, then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?

Hi - I rented a movie from iTunes and was charged for the rental. It downloaded to my iPhone 5 over wi-fi as usual, but on completion of the download, it then didn't appear in my movies app on the iphone. I can't find it either on iTunes in my account on my computer. But iTunes seems to think that I've already downloaded it, but I can't find it anywhere or watch it. Help! I've downloaded and watch plenty of movies before - this is a first. I've tried re-renting it, but it tells me that I've already rented it and if I download it again, I'll be charged a second time.

I had the same issue with my apple tv 3rd generation. I rented Sinister and selected the "rent and watch now" option. Half way through the movie I accidentally pressed the menu button. When I looked for the rented movie on my apple tv I could not find it. Not even above the movie pannel where "purchased" and "top movies" comes up on the main menu. the apple tv suggests to go to settings>downloads but I don't have that option. I did go to settings> itunes store> check rentals but that didnt work either. It took too long to even check. Thank you because this SOLUTION worked great.
SOLUTION: How to reset apple tv 3 3rd generation to view rented movies:on the apple tv remote: press and hold "menu" to go to the main menu. Select SETTINGS> GENERAL >RESET >RESET ALL SETTINGS. After the apple tv resets, input all your information again and your rented movies should be visible when you cruise above the "movies" section. THANK YOU!!

The movie in itunes cannot be dragged into my iphone (even though I'm set on manual sync), it doesn't even show up as available to be synched by checking the box next to it, and yet it plays just fine in itunes on my Mac. Drag and drop only works if "Manually manage music" is selected on the summary tab in iTunes.
Instead, use the Music tab and playlists to manage what content is on the device as described in the User's Guide.

I phone is only 3G. 3G is not very good for streaming video even if you got a strong signal. Also I would hope you have unlimited data if you do get in a good signal.

Movie Downloads from iTunes Store won't play on my Mac or iPhone

Have just downloaded my Star Trek digital copy from the iTunes store; it is sitting on my Mac's hard drive as a .m4v file of nearly 2Gb; seems OK. However, if I click on 'play' in iTunes it shows a progress bar playing in iTunes & in the separate movie window I get a blank screen & no sound. I then sync'ed it with my iPhone & when I go into the iPod on the iPhone & play the movie I get the error "This movie could not be played". I have some podcasts on the Mac & iPhone & they work OK on both platforms.
Now I understood that the .m4v format was alright to play on both my Mac & on the iPhone but it's not working for me...anyone encountered this before / got any ideas pls?

Same issue. I've been buying TV shows and movies on iTunes for a long time and copying them to my iPhone to watch on my TV. A few days ago, I tried to move a rented movie to my iPhone the same way I always did, click the "move" button next to the movie under the movies tab for the iPhone in iTunes when iPhone was connected and then click "apply". It would do a quick sync without copying anything.
I thought I had a bum file, so I e-mailed Apple support and they reset the purchase so that I could redownload, which I'm doing now.
But my recently downloaded episodes of Lost will also not copy to my iPhone. AND they will not even play on my iMac. When I try to play them, it shows only a grey screen with a progress bar. TV shows and movies purchased and downloaded weeks or months ago still play fine.
No changes have been made to my system. After the rented movie didn't play and copy, I did a update check and downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPhone firmware. That didn't fix it. I have the newest versions of the Quicktime and iTunes. The computer is authorized for these purchases. The iPhone is authorized.
I've looked at similar threads and have not found a solution. I'm stumped. If anyone has a solution let me know.

iTunes thinks you have a new computer because you restored the OS. Open iTunes and authorize it to the same account you have on the iPhone. Did you restore your iTunes content from a backup after resetting your computer? Have you been syncing regularly with the computer, and does the iTunes library on the computer contain your apps, music and videos? If so just sync and your content will be removed then restored.
If you have not hopefully you have now learned something. You can recover apps and purchased songs by connecting the phone, without syncing, and choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu.
