Backing up PC MEdia Library before windows reinstall - h

Hi, I have about 70g of music, which took a silly long time to put in the music library. Basically to do it involved my puter stopping responding for about 30 mins whilst the database was built.
Now, reinstalling windows is quite a common thing for me, i do it quite a lot. Is there a way I can back up the database so i dont have to rebuild it after I reinstall mediasource with my audigy/zen drivers? I multipartition, so saving it isnt a problem.
next question - when reinstalling drivers for audigy and zen micro, should I install the mediasource from both, or just from the zen, which is newer (and presumably has a newer version)?

Here is what you should do:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
- (Depending on your firmware)
Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
or:
Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) from your product download site.
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • P6N Diamond X-Fi Xtreme, back audio jack not working after windows reinstall

    Hi everyone,
I've been having a problem with audio since reinstalling windows. Previously under windows xp sp3 i had no issues but after the most recent reinstall of windows xp, the rear jacks for the audio aren't working despite the front headphones jack working perfectly fine. Since this was only a short term measure, i didn't bother trying to sort it out until now, when I've now installed windows 7 on the computer and the issue still exists.
I'm using the latest driver available on the msi website http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1168 and I have also tried using the audio driver patch available on the same page.
The fact that there were no problems before a recent windows reinstall and that the issue is mentioned on the driver download page makes me think the problem is with the drivers and not with the hardware.
I searched through the forums and while a fair few people seem to be having the same issue or similar issues with audio jacks not functioning properly, i couldn't find a relevant solution for me.
    Cheers,
    Dave

Yep that sounds exactly like my problem. The issue lies with the on board soundcard and their vista drivers. Creatives' vista drivers are notoriously bad. This coupled with the fact their drivers won't even INSTALL on a p6n board because their drivers do not detect the onboard soundcard adds to the problem. As far as I see it there are two ways to solve this issue:
1.) Buy a front audio panel addition to your case.
I am not sure on your setup but here is one with HD audio support: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813999356
And that will fix your back panel port, and give you the option to use the front as well.
    2.) Buy a new soundcard.
This is what I did after learning that the onboard x-fi isn't even a real x-fi card. I opted to buy the X-Fi gamer (cheapest of the X-Fi cards) and so far the drivers have been acceptable in vista. My non-hd front ports work, as well as my back port.
Another alternative would be to wait for MSI to release an update to the creative drivers that they provide. No guarantee on that though.

  • How to backup library before an iTunes reinstallation

I run Vista, and I happened to have the problem of my CD/DVD drive disappearing on me. I googled it, figured out how to fix it by deleting a couple registry items and restarting, and it started working again. Only thing is, right after that every time I open iTunes I now get a message saying iTunes can no longer import CD's because something got changed, please reinstall. I kept ignoring it, and now iTunes won't even open up. So my question is, how can I for back up my iTunes library before uninstalling, so I won't have to manually import every song file. I have multiple copies of some songs and I don't want those back in the library after reinstalling. Also, after that how would I go about reimporting my old library?
    Thank you.

External drives (for backing up) are less than $100.
    Backup software will run automatically.
If everything on your computer disappeared right now or you r hard drive died and it would not affect/bother you in the least, you could get by without a backup.
But since you are here asking how to backup some files...
I highly suggest you consider it.

  • I recently had my PC updated to Windows 64 bit.   My computer guy forgot to save my I Tunes library before reformatting.  Now  my I Tunes music shows up as an .xml file.  Can I transfer this back to an mp3 format?

    Please help.

Yes, I had about 1331 songs installed.  6 years go I transferred all my CDs into my I Tunes library.  Everytime I had my computer reformatted my computer guy REMEMBERED to copy my I Tunes before reformatting.  This time he forgot.  Now it shows up in my "old transferred files folder".  When I click on it thats how it shows up.  That old transferred file folder was from a previous reformat of my hard drive.  I HAVE bought some songs from the I Tuness store that are avaiulable now on my I Tunes.  The ones I transferred from CD are in that .xml file.  Luckily, I have some songs that are in my windows Media Library in mp3 and wave files that I can re-import into my I Tunes folder but not all of my songs are there.
Unless you or your 'computer guy' made a backup of the iTunes data files (music files) they are now gone. As Dave said, purchased songs can be redownloaded, ripped ones will need a re-rip.

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

  • *N OVER MY HEAD! my iTunes library disappeared from my PC, TS said uninstall then reinstall, before I reinstalled though my ipad 2 said NOT ENOUGH MEMORY as I tried to update 1 app. What do I do now?

Apparently, something went way wrong SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW... and now I'm afraid of losing ALL MY MEDIA considering I have NO ITUNES ON MY LAPTOP! I followed all appropriate steps found in trouble shooting, when I reinstalled iTunes though, the reinstalled music on my pc was a handful of songs that were triplicates, even listed some five TIMES! And maybe a total of 20-25 different songs, a fraction of what I had initially!

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • ITunes & Windows 7 - media library has been removed

I can see that this issue has been raised before but I can't find a definitive answer so please bear with me.
My old PC had gone into meltdown. I bought a new machine (Acer Aspire M5811)this came with Windows 7. I am running iTunes 10 with the most recent updates all installed. I copied my backed up iTunes music library and everything appeared to be running fine. A couple of days later I tried to play music from the PC and found that my music library was missing. The data base is still there but the actual files have gone. Other sites and some posts on this forum suggest that there may be a problem with file scanning software, Windows 7 and iTunes. I have McAfee virus scanning software but it caused no problems on my old XP machine.
I can re load my back up and re rip the few CDs I have added to iTunes but I would like to prevent having to do this again. Are there any known fixes or is there a post you can point me at that covers thses issues (ideally in language a technophobe can follow!).
    Thanks

OK replying to my own post with an update. This needs someone who is good on file structures.
On further checking my iTunes preferences are set to look for my music folders on the file path +C://Users/Dave/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media+ but my info box in the iTunes database shows the music to be located at +file://localhost/C:/Users/Dave/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media+.
I'm being a bit stupid here but can someone confirm if the file://localhost/ part is just Windows pathing that doesn't have any impact on the location searched or do I need to point iTunes at the full file path shown in the info box?
    Cheers

  • Uninstall Elements before a Windows reinstall?

After one week of a new computer, hackers got into it. Long story short, in order to totally wipe clean and secure it, I have to go back to factory specs and reinstall windows. During that first week, I had installed a brand new copy of PS Elements 10 (never opened it-it had sat on the shelf!).
    1) Is there a limit to how many times I can install the program on the same computer? If I have a problem in the future, will I have used up my installations?
    2) Should I uninstall it first, before doing the windows reinstall or just let it get erased during the Windows 8.1 reinstall process??
Thank you for any words of wisdom!

Nope, there is  no limit on number of installations and uninstallations but make sure that before uninstalling you deactivate your application. There is a limit on number of activations for a serial number which is two. Hence you can use serialized PSE on two different machines.
Please let me know if ti doesn't answer your question.

  • How do I move itunes library from my ipad back to my itunes library in my windows computer ?

How do I move itunes library from my ipad back to my itunes library in my windows computer ? All the songs got transfered by mistake from my windows itunes library to my ipad. All i had wanted to do was to move a select # of songs newly purchased from my ipad to my ipod but I got mixed up. Before i knew it all teh library had been moved to my ipad?  HELP!

You don't have to move the songs back into iTunes if you don't want to, the songs are still in iTunes on your computer - you just copied a version of the songs onto the iPad from iTunes.
If you want to remove them from the device itself, just swipe across the song while you are in song list mode in the music app and a red delete button will pop up. You can also tap and hold down on a playlist or a album icon and the X to delete will pop up. It will not work for Genius playlists.
You can also connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes, select the iPad on the left side, click on the Music Tab on the right, uncheck all of the music that you want to remove, click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes, and that will remove the songs from the iPad.

  • Is it possible to have a window open for my library and the Itunes store so that I can toggle between the two?  I want to check my library before I purchase songs to make sure that I don't already own them.

    No.

  • I accidentally cut instead of copied a folder of previously imported raw files. When I pasted the folder back I could see it in Windows Explore but not in the LR library. How can I work with these files again?

    HI,
My daughter will often ask me to give her raw files I've taken at family events so that she can process them in her own copy of LR. (I work too slowly, apparently.) Recently I inadvertently cut instead of copied a folder. When I pasted it back I could see it in Windows Explorer but not in my LR library. I thought that re-importing the files might work, LR gave me a message that they were already imported. I expect there is a way to make the files available again in LR and would be grateful for some advice.
    thanks
    Ken

The solutions is either of the following:
Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
Copy the photos back into the exact same folder and folder location that they were in before
I don't know what you actually did "when I pasted it back" ... but the bigger issue is that you shouldn't be working with these files in your operating system, period. Once you import them into Lightroom, you don't manage these files in your operating system.

I would just chalk it up to slow hardware but they load real quick in windows 7 and once this bad spot is loaded the program runs so fast and nice afterword. Maybe some tweeks? I wonder if this would happen in Snow?
The coment "few outdated programs" Ive seen alot its not just a few its a lot and since games are not Apple's strong point I would think they would want to keep as many as they could...
An example of the rants you will see from a lot here. Don't be put off as these problems are generally user specific, and these same old comments come out after the release of every OSX I can remember. When Lion is upgraded  to the next OSX you can gaurentee these forums will be full of people screaming about how great Lion was. Happened with Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard.
So come to think of it you may be better off Googling sites that give you unbiased views on Lion, rather than expect any positive comments here. For every one complaint there are probably 100,000 people with no issues.

  • Window Reinstall -- can I get my music back?

I had to reinstall windows on my computer. Is there any way I can get my music I purchased off iTunes back without paying for it again. I know I should have backed it all up, but I didn't think this was going to happen. I'd appriciate any help. Thanks!

The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • When I plug in my ipod Nano i syncs to itunes but I can't get the music from my Library in Windows Media Player???

How can I get my music from my Library in Windows Media Player to sync to my iPod Nana?

You can't sync an iPod using Windows Media Player.  You need to add the songs to your iTunes library first, and then sync those songs to the iPod.
This document provides more information (Add to Library section)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1347
NOTE:  The WMA files (the file type used by Window Media Player) need to be unprotected (no DRM).  They are converted to a format supported by iTunes while adding to the iTunes library.  This WMA conversion feature only works in the Windows version of iTunes (Mac users cannot do it).
I believe you can drag and drop the WMA files, or the folder containing the WMA files, onto the iTunes window.  The original WMA files are not changed.  iTunes creates its own converted files at the location it stores all the iTunes media files.
