Backing up photos to a DVD??

I am trying to back-up my photos onto a DVD but every time I insert a blank DVD I get this message:
"The burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857D drive failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry."
Can someone please help me? I've tried setting it to a slower burn speed and inserting several different blank DVD's in case one was accidently written. HELP!

Are you able to burn to DVD via the Finder? If not then it's a hardware problem and should be addressed accordingly.
If your Macbook came with a Hardware Test disk run it and see if it reports any problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

When you export the videos out of iPhoto be sure to select Kind = Original.  Otherwise you'll just get an image file of the first frame of the video.

  • Lost 14 gig of space on internal hard drive after backing up photos to dvd's

good Morning, I'm running pse 6 and yesterday I did a full back up of my pics which is about 14 gig onto dvd's.  This morning when I checked my free space available on my hard drive I was missing about 14 gig.  I normally only have about 20 gig of free space left on my hard drive so I can't afford to lose 14 gig.  Did backing up my pics on dvds also eat 14 gig of space on my hard drive?  Help!

well probably you have told PSE to back up your entire hard disk , first check out the disk space usage and all by downloading any disk space usage analysis software..probably that will give you some help.

  • Unable to view photos burned to DVD from Elements 11

I burned some photos (jpg and tiff) from Elements 11 to a DVD.  When I tried to open the disc on the same computer, it didn't show any files.  However, PSE.VolInfo.dat showed on DVD.  I tried to open with Windows Explorer and with Photoshop Elements.  When I put that same DVD in a different computer the pictures are all listed and open fine.  I am wondering why no files are showing and why  I can't open the pictures on the computer I used to burn them with and where the PSE.VolInfo.dat came from?  How can I burn the photos to a DVD and be able to open them?  Has anyone experienced this type of problem?  Burned them to a CD also and experienced the same problem.

Well since nobody here responded, I called Verizon Tech Support directly.  I was instructed to remove the battery while leaving the power on (that's important--do NOT power off!).  Then depress the power button in succession twenty (20) times.  Replace the battery cover and power up as normal.  All fixed!!!    Thanks to "Julius"  at VZW.  Obviously, this is some type of reset sequence for the Charge.
Depress the power button 20 times with the battery still out or after putting the battery back in?

  • Can I retrieve photos burned onto DVD (I used iDVD)?

I lost my hard drive last week and am in the process of rebuilding my photo gallery. In Decemeber, I burned a DVD with all of my desired photos from 2012 using iDVD. In addition to the videos and slideshows that I included in the main menu, I made sure to burn the actual photos to the DVD as well. Except now, I don't know how to retrieve the photos from the DVD to re-import into iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • HELP!!!Can I restore back my photos and documents after I did factory restore setting? [never back up before]

Just wonder, I have tried to do that for my mac pro. [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtUw-vo606w] , once I have reinstall the mac lion, the laptop will be just as the same day when i first purchased it right? Will i be able to restore back my photos ? Please note that, i never back up my photos before.

Yes if you erase/wipe, re-partition the drive before you do a reinstall of OS X Lion all data on your drive will be removed and replaced with just the operatiing system and the standard programs that come with OS X, Mail, Contacts, Safari, iTunes and the like. The iLife Apps, "i" Photo, Movie and Garage Band will not. Those Apps need to be downloaded from the Mac App Store and installed.
All other programs you have bought and installed will need to be reinstalled from either the CD/DVD disc or from downloads from the internet website you bought them from.
Backing up all your music and photos depends on what programs you are using and whether you saved them outside the Apple Apps iPhoto and iTunes database structure.

  • Can´t back up from iPhoto to DVD. Unexpected error code 0x8002006E

I´ve tried to back up from iPhoto to DVD. I followed:
Create a CD or DVD by exporting
In iPhoto, select the photos, albums, or video clips you want to burn to a disc.
    Choose File > Export.
In the Export Photos window, click File Export, and then select your options. For best results, choose JPEG, Maximum, and Full Size. For more information, see Export a photo.
When you’re ready, click Export, and export the photos to a folder on your computer.
When the export is finished, quit iPhoto.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock, and then insert a CD-RW disc or a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into your drive.
Drag the folder that contains your exported photos to the disc’s icon.
When the files have been copied, choose File > Burn Disc, and then click Burn.
The disc can´t be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E)
    Am I missing something?
    Thank you

    I found this:
When burning a DVD, I also had the error 0x8002006E.  I found a SOLUTION that is not discussed in this forum. I tried the three different things that are listed in this forum (delete the finder file, reset PRAM, and try different blank DVDs), but those methods did not work.
I had to repair my internal hard drive.  I had to start my computer from my installation disc (version 10.5.4) (I turned on the computer while holding down "C" key with install disc in the drive).  Then, you have to go to Disc Utility (at top menu bar) and click on your hard drive then click repair disc.  After my computer repaired multiple problems, I restarted my computer from my main hard drive and then I could burn DVDs again.  Please let me know if you have questions.
    Is this the solution?

  • Backing up photos from iPhoto

I have Time Machine linked to an external drive but wanted to free up space from my laptop. What's the best way of backing up iPhoto to a DVD ( using iPhoto burn or Toast ? ).
Through iPhoto it seems to create a library folder and not just a list of all photos. I must admit to not understanding this so be gentle.
Also, if I wanted to import the photos back from the DVD, how would I go about it, with the library's numerous subfolders ?

Use the Share -> Burn command. This will create a Library on the DVD disk that can be opened in iPhoto.
That said, if you want to use this Library then move it to an external disk: On the DVD you’ll not be able to do anything with it without recovering it to the HD.
    To move to an external:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Suggestions on backing up iphoto4 library on DVD when library is greater th

    Hi,
I need to backup my iphoto4 library. I want to do it on DVD. My present library is larger than 1 DVD. How would you go about dividing up the pictures. The library is just one large library of all of the pictures.
Thank you for your help and ideas.

iPhoto Help has several suggestions to back up photos. Photo backups vs. iPhoto library backups are two different things (a library is a database which needs to retain its integrity beyond just the image files). If you want to backup libraries, then you might consider multiple libraries whose respective sizes will be limited by the capacity of the chosen backup medium.
The backup of a large collection of individual images is relatively straight forward; backing up large photo databases requires a greater degree of strategy.

  • Backup photo library on dvds

First time Mac owner here so forgive my Macnoobness
I want to back up my photo library onto dvds. I have close to 6000 images and it will require more than one dvd. What I am looking for is to burn my photo library without having to select my images in "groups" that will fit on each dvd. Basically, select the burn option and let the computer burn all images that can fit on a single dvd, then prompt me to insert a second dvd, etc. Can this be done?

    Gary:
There is an application that might be able to take your Originals folder and burn it across multiple disks. It's called Disco. I suppose you would open the library package and drag the Originals folder onto the application and let it do it's stuff, adding new DVD's when asked for. I've not used it so can't comment on it's effectiveness.
You would not want to burn the entire library as that would include a lot of files that you're not interested in, i.e. database files, thumbnail files and the modified files. You, I'm assuming, just want to backup the original files.
NOTE: I'm not sure it will work with DVDs.
But the .Mac backup will work with both CDs and DVDs (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61791)
    Do you Twango?

  • Backing up photos on iMac using external hard drive and time machine

How do i back up photos from my imac using an external hard drive and time machine
    Thanks in advance

Apple explains how to use Time Machine in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427.
Setting up and using TM is very simple to do, connect any external HD (format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility ) and your computer shoudl ask if you want to use that EHD for a Time Machine backup. If you have any questions visit your local Apple Store or reseller and they can answer how to setup and use TM and also should be able to offer suggestions on EHDs. My personal preference is OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro due to the build quality and OWC's level of support.

I copied a lot of photos from an iphone to a DVD using a Windows 7 laptop, now I cannot access those photos on the DVD. HELP! In Windows Exlporer I can see the data on the disk in the details but when I click on it nothing appears as if there is nothing on it.

It should. So they aren't shown in the Last Import smart album, right? Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
