Backing Up Photos, Videos & Messages, Chat Logs - Treo 680

In order to free up memory space on Treo 680, I need to delete photos, videos. messages and chats from my phone, back them up onto PC, have them stay saved on PC and not have them restored to phone during next Hot Sync (which I think happened last time).  Also I had to purge all calendar data from > one month from my phone, but now want to restore that data from my PC to phone.  How do I do these?

I have searched through the Palm guide, but no discussion on extracting the SMS data.  I understand that the sms messages are in the file "Messages Database.pdb" and the call log is in "PhoneCallDB.pdb", question is how to extract the records.

    Hey Bakak,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you keep getting a message to authorize your computer when trying to transfer applications to your iPhone. Here is an article on things that may cause this. I suspect that the section "Authorize using the correct account name" may be most relevant. It is possible that you have multiple Apple IDs and iTunes accounts.

  • Why is it so hard to get back to a support message after logging in?

When I get a message saying there's a reply to a discussion here, I click on the link to get to that discussion.    It says I have to log on in order to reply, and I do so - but it leaves me in a different screen.   If I page back, it thinks I'm logged off again.   If I link back, it thinks I'm logged off again.
Why can't this web site let me log on and keep me logged on at the screen from which I clicked the log on link?

I am now having the exact same symptoms on THIS thread as you did on whatever thread prompted this question. Other threads seem unaffected.
The only way I am able to post this reply is to go to Howard Brazee's Profile | Activity and click the Reply link at the bottom of the synopsis, which opens a compose pane on the Activity page.

This is a new wrinkle on a similar 'infected' thread's behavior - only worse. For posterity, I will describe my normal WorkFlow that yields NO Joy...
    Restart Mac
    Open TenFourFoxv31.1.0 (Firefox/Mozilla)
From a browser bookmark that is Login > Using ASC
    Login from the Login Page
    Directs to Using ASC
Scroll til all I see is the list
Invoke a FF add-on - ReloadEvery (20 minutes) on that page
This becomes my 'Base Camp' for navigating to threads

Switch to MS Entourage mail client
Click the "Go to this Discussion" link in the email notice of your post "I just got your message in my email......"
Auto-switches to FF and opens the thread to your post in a new TAB
    Login state = 0
Scroll to the top of page = state is 'Guest'
click "login' link - this should take me to the Login page (the hover indicates the correct URL for login page)

More than likely you can get the phone back by doing a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot.

  • IPhone 4 in Recovery Mode--will I get my photos&videos back when I restore?

Last night, after syncing my iPhone 4, I attempted to download and install the latest iPhone software. It downloaded (after 3 hours which was crazy especially since download and successful installation took less than an hour with my husband's iPhone 3GS) and started to install. However, the installation failed and now a popup says "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used in iTunes." My phone shows an illustration indicating that I should plug it into iTunes.
My number one concern is whether or not I will be able to recover my photos. I have many photos and videos of my 6-month-old daughter on my phone that I do not want to lose. I did attempt to start a restore but cancelled when it said that I would lose all of my media. It said I would have the option of restoring my contacts, calendars, text messages, and other settings. It doesn't say anything about my photos and videos. Will I be able to restore my photos and videos??
    Thank you!
    MrsKinsey

You will only get them back if you synced before you started the download/install, therefore creating a backup (or mirror image) of your phone. If you didn't, chances are photos/videos and anything else you may have downloaded will be gone.
Make sure you always transfer ALL photos whenever you connect your phone, this way you know you still have them and can sync them back to your phone to enjoy wherever you are.

My dad & I both have iPhone 5s. He no longer uses his & my screen is cracked. If I switch our SIM cards, what data will be lost? It is important for me to save/transfer all photos, video, & *especially* all text messages. When the SIM cards are swapped between phones, will any of these things be lost/deleted?

Thank you! I would prefer not to wipe his phone. My cracked screen iPhone still works, so I would ideally like to put his SIM card in my phone for occasional use. As mentioned, he is not using his iPhone anymore for phone calls, but would like to maintain access to photos, video, and all texts. As I use an iPhone for calls, trading the cracked screen is ideal. If I am able to switch them without losing data, I will, but am afraid to do so if there is a chance that any data will be erased. (I'm not sure if the photos, video, and -namely- texts are saved to the actual SIM card. Can text messages be backed up?
iPhone do not store anything on the sim.
Photos should be saved on computer like any other digital camera.
You can restore the backup for your dad as well as for yourself while swapping phones.

  • HT4859 CAN I SEE AND ACCESS PHOTOS AND MUSIC THAT WERE BACKED UP FROM MY IPHONE, BY LOGGING ON TO MY ICLOUD ACCOUNT ON MY DESKTOP? ALL I SEE IS MAIL, CALENDAR, CONTACTS. NO PHOTOS OR MUSIC.

I have backed up my iPhone to iCloud. I have switched on the back up photos, etc. (basically everything). But, when I open iClould on my computer, and log in, the only things I see are my Contacts, iCloud email (not my other two email accounts that I use on my iPhone), iWork, Calendar, and Notes. I don't see any photos, videos, or music (all music purchased from iTunes Store). When Im logged in to iCloud on my desktop (actually, it's a MacBook), and open Settings, there really aren't that many things to 'set'. In fact, there isn't much in iCloud. Whats up?

You can't see the contents of an iCloud backup on the iCloud website.

  • TREO 680 Photo Messages

I cannot send or receive Photo messages. OS is 1.12 ROW.  PhoneInterfaceLib is size zero (as are lots of other things).  This is mentioned elsewhere as a problem but I don't know how to update or re-install. Any suggestions ?

The user guide (pg 99-100) seems to indicate that you can save pictures from multimedia messages. I don't actually own a Treo 680 any more, so this is based off of the printed documentation. Try and see if this works.

4 Do any of the following:
    • Use the onscreen controls to scroll to other slides and messages.
    • To save a sound, press Menu , and select Save Sound from the Message menu. You can access saved sounds later by pressing Applications  and selecting
    Sounds  or Voice Memo .
    • To save a picture, press Menu , and select Save Picture from the Message menu. You can access
saved pictures later by pressing Applications  and selecting Pics&Videos .

  • I have already deleted many photos, videos and apps and yet my available storage in icloud remains exactly the same.  What do i do now to reduce the storage so i can once again "back up"

I have reduced my photos, videos and apps quite a bit and yet my available storage in "icloud" remains the same!  It won't let me back up now unless i delete storage( which ive done) or buy more storage, which i won't!  So now what?

when you go to settings > icloud > storage and backup > and select your device it will tell you what all is going into your backup the next time you perform one. that will give you more information than we can.
the only other thing i can think of is that you have a large amount of 'other' data taking up space on your phone. that consists of settings, the iOS itself, contacts, calendar events, messages, and other things like that. contacts and calendars in icloud don't take up space in your icloud backup because they're being synced in real time, but if they're locally stored or connected to an email address on your phone, they will.

  • Now that I have backed up, can I delete items from my desktop? One of the reasons I got the time capsule was so that I could free up some space on my computer. I am confused about whether the backup will one day remove my photos/video

I purchased a 2TB time capsule yesterday. I set it up as a router and did the backup no problem. I then navigated the backup folder and found that all my photos/video that I am nervous about losing are on there. So far so good.
Taking a step back, the reason I bought the time capsule was 1.) I needed a router 2.) I have a mac and 3.) I am running out of disk space on that mac (I shoot and cut a lot of video and have years of high quality pictures on my mac hard drive)
Can I now delete them from my mac computer to free space? I have used standard external disk drives in the past, but the whole "Back Up" piece of things has me confused. I love the idea of backing up my computer so I want to keep that functionality, but will the drive still function as a static external hard drive? Or do I need to move that material in seperately as a folder outside of the backup folder?
I am nervous that if the backup overwrites information as the disk space becomes limited that in 10 years when I fill this drive up, that I will lose all of my photos that are part of the backups that I am running now.....
Or worse, I am nervous that if I remove things from my mac right now, that the next time that a back up is performed that it will lose this data as it is not currently on the device I am backing up? How does this work?
I apologize, the back up is a very new concept to me and I want to make sure I do not goof anything up.

    applefool wrote:

That's an entirely different thing from backups.  A backup is an extra copy, in case the original is lost or damaged.   Additional space is just that -- more space for originals.
While it's possible to use the same disk (such as the TC's internal HD) for both things, it's dangerous -- when (not if) something happens to the TC, you risk losing the originals that are on it.   To be safe, you need (at least) two copies of everything important, in (at least) two different places.
Many (including me) recommend at least three copies (originals plus 2 backups).  While it's not common for the Mac's hard drive to fail about the same time as the backup drive, it does happen.  There are several threads here where it did, and very expensive data recovery was needed, but in some cases everything was lost.
So as the others recommend, getting an external HD for the stuff there isn't room for on your Mac is one solution for not having enough space.  But you might explore getting a larger internal HD.   If possible, that might be bettter.
Then, also get another external, for "secondary" backups, so you're doubly protected.  If you get a portable model, you can take it offsite for even better protection.  See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details and some suggestions.
Can I now delete them from my mac computer to free space? I have used standard external disk drives in the past, but the whole "Back Up" piece of things has me confused.
You're not the first or only one.
There are different types of backup apps, so there are different answers for the different types.
As the others have posted, Time Machine will, sooner or later, delete it's backup copies of things that are no longer on your system.  Depending on how long the original was there and when backups were run, that can be in as little as 24 hours, or as long as there's room.   So no, don't take the chance with data that's important!
Is there helpful information on how to add an external drive to your backup set up?
See the green box in #2 of the FAQ article.  All you have to do is format it for a Mac and remove it from the exclusion list.
Once I set it up, will I need to leave the hard drive plugged into my mac in order for the data to be backed up?
It can only be backed-up while it's connected.
If I do, and a back up is performed without the hard drive attached to my computer, will it remove the backup of  what was on the hard drive
No (unless you leave it disconnected until Time Machine starts deleting old backups).
It will back up the external when it's connected, and not complain if it isn't.

  • I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1 and my Photos, Videos, contacts, music, App data, etc. was deleted. How can I all the data back?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?

How do I get the music back on my iPhone after manually deleting it from the device (to get space for photos/videos)?  I can sync with iTunes but it doesn't copy these songs back, even though they still appear in my iTunes library.  I can click on the Music link  under 'On My Device' in iTunes and the missing songs all appear to still be on the device, but they are not.  I normally delete using iTunes and do not have this issue.  This time I was out and needed more space to shoot photos and videos so I removed a lot of music from my phone through the Music App.

The songs I'm trying to reload on my phone are on my PC.  These we had loaded into iTunes.  I can remove them all from the library and then add them all back one by one I imagine.  The problem I'm having is that I removed them manually from the phone, they still appear in iTunes music library yet they won't sync.  I don't want to take the time to compare the phone to my library, remove from the library what's missing on the phone and then add them all back again.  64GB (mostly music) will take a while.

  • Need some help in saving video message from viber to my Iphone. I disabled the thing that would save photos and videos automatically then, there comes a video I want to save. After loading and watching it, I press the "save to gallery"

Need some help in saving video message from viber to my Iphone 5S with new ios 8's program . I disabled the thing that would save photos and videos automatically then, there comes a video I want to save. After loading and watching it, I press the "save to gallery" thing but it doesn't save in gallery. Probably a good question to ask Viber or look at their support site.
