Backing up photos with iCloud.

I am currently overseas uploading all my photos to my iPad 2 using the camera connection kit. I am wanting to back up all of these photos (about 14gb worth) in case I lose my iPad or if something happens to it. I do not have a computer with me. I am looking in to buying more storage for my iCloud but I am very confused about how it works and if it will actually store all of my photos. I don't care about syncing them to my other devices, I just want to make sure that if something does happen to my iPad ALL my 'all imported' photos will be backed up in iCloud for me to retrieve them on my macbook when I get home.
Can someone please clear this up for me? I have read so many different things and nothing is clear.

If you back up your iPad to iCloud, the backup will include photos stored in the camera roll.  The photos will not be accessibile to download or view; they will only be available to restore to your device as part of restoring the entire backup.  You would not be able to access the photos contained in the backup on your MacBook when you get home.  The backup counts against your iCloud storage space.
Alternatively, if you upload the photos using Photo Stream, you can upload up to 1000 photos for up to 30 days.  Photo Stream photos can be accessed via iOS devices and computers signed into the same iCloud account that also have Photo Stream enabled.  If your MacBook meets is running OS X 10.7.2 10.7.4 or higher, you will be able download the photos from Photo Stream. This article explains how to set this up on your Mac and other devices: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.  Photo Stream photos do not count against your iCloud space.  Another thing to be aware of is that photos uploaded to Photo Stream are streamed back to your device to a Photo Stream album, so you will end up using additional storage space on your iPad when you do this.  Here's a FAQ on Photo Stream that you may find helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486.
Edit: Your MacBook must be running OS X 10.7.4 or higher to sync it with iCloud and enable Photo Stream.

    Hello Crosso10
As long as you have iCloud Control Panel installed on your computer, they should show up in your Pictures folder under My Photo Stream.

usually i back my IPhone with ICloud, after installing IOS 5 it asked me to restore from ITunes what i have to do to restore all my contact, applications and others?

If your iPhone does not search for a wi-fi connection before you are asked whether you want to set it up as new phone or restore a backup from iTunes, then I guess you have the same issue as highlighted in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19638850?ac_cid=tw123456#19638850
iCloud back ups can only be accessed via wi-fi that's why you are not granted this option, I have the exact same issue.

  • Can I back my photo to icloud, delete photos in my phone, and access my photos wirelessly when I need them?

can I back my photos to icloud, delete photos in my phone, and access my photos wirelessly when I need them?

No you cannot. once you delete them off your phone the only way you can view them wirelessly on your phone is by connecting your phone back to the computer and putting them back on your phone. Otherwise you cannot access them wirelessly.

  • How can i get back my photo from icloud?

    hello,
same question   how can i get back my photo from icloud?
    thanks

iCloud.com does not have a photo's tab.  Photo stream is intended to stream images to your computer via iPhoto 11, or to another iOS device.  See this article for more detailed information - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486.

  • HT4865 if you have an ipod & you back it up with icloud, will your iphone get notified?

Basically I just want to know if you have an iPod & you back it up with iCloud , will your iPhone get notified of this?

You won't receive a notification, but if the iPhone is signed into the same iCloud account as the iPod, you can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage.  Here you will see the iPod Backup listed under Backups if it has one.  You can tap the iPod and it will tell you when the last backup was completed.

I have now but think it is the answer that said you can't stream photos that you had already taken.  Thank you for your trouble.

  • Backing up photos using iCloud

    Hello,
I have about 700 photos and 60 videos on my iphone that I want to have backed up somewhere, besides my computer, which is currently on its death bed. I will be getting a new computer in a few weeks after the data has been recovered from my old but in the meanwhile, would like the photos saved somewhere else.
I paid the extra $20 for 15 Gb of storage in iCloud only to find out it only backs up new photos AFTER it has been turned on on the phone.
Does anyone know a way to back up the old photos using icloud? or another application?
    Thanks,
    Annemarie

  • How do I view my backed up photos from icloud?

I am trying to figure out how to view the photos that are backed up on iCloud.  My real issue is I don't have enough storage to back up my phone so I've been deleting things and saving my photos to my computer, but I'm still not able to back up iClouds.

  • When sharing photos with iCloud the geotags disappear, how do I get the location?

The place where a photo was taken is displayed in Photos but not in the shared folder, when pictures are shared with iCloud the information just isn't there. It's not from the settings, everything is enabled. I have no idea why it doesn't work properly but it's of no use to me to share pictures with someone if we don't know where the other person's photos have been taken. Am I missing something? How do I get someone else's photos with their geotags?

Use View -> Status bar ; and click on it so the tick/check mark appears.
Note in the next version firefox 4 the status bar is being replaced see [[What happened to the Status Bar?]], and if you want something similar you will then need to use an add-on.

  • I just backed my photos to icloud, how to i view the photos now

    did i lose them?

You can not directly view photos via iCloud.
You can view Photo Stream folders by signing in to iCloud on your Mac (OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later) and turning on Photo Stream or installing iCloud Control Panel on your PC (Windows 7 or later) and enabling Photo Stream.

  • I'm trying to back my phone with iCloud but the message "you can not delete your icloud account because your iPhone is being restored" appears under storage and back up then when I click on storage and back up the icloud back up is grey so I can't clickit

Need help with backing up on icloud. It's just grey the and can't click it.

Sorry, I was gone for a while.  The reason I asked is that many employers will push a restriction to the phone to prevent it from backing up to iCloud.
The only time I've seen this before it was the result of a server issue at Apple's end, and would normally clear up on it's own in 3-5 days.  If you can't wait, you'll probably have to contact Apple support for help with this: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

  • Trouble sharing photos with iCloud

I am trying to share photos from my wife's iPad mini to my iMac using iCloud.
I created an album with about 20 photos on her iPad and shared it using my email. I received the email invitation on my iMac to subscribe to her album. I double clicked and there is now an icon in iMac iPhoto>iCloud>Family and Friends' Streams with the name of the album from the iPad.
However, there are no photos in the new icon. I have enabled iCloud>Photos>iCloud Photo Sharing in System Preferences on both the iMac and the iPad.
Why aren't the photos showing up in the iMac iPhoto?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I had to create TIFF files for 30 fotos or so. The other 50 did not pose a problem. I am still not 100% clear why this is. I suspect this has to do with having those photos coming from iPhoto and then imported into Aperture.
Before I hit this issue, I just re-installed Mavericks, because I experienced hanging situations. Mail would have hanging threads ("waiting for semaphore"). Basically after 20 hours or so, apps that use the cloud would all be hanging. There was no way to get this going again, apart from a reboot.
So I decided to reinstall Mavericks.
After the new installation I noticed that some iCloud streams were not visible in Aperture, that is where I created that missing stream and started to copy the photos to it. And that is where I encountered this hang issue in Aperture.
Retrospectively, I suspect the hanging apps were also caused by this.
So for people who experience hanging iCloud apps, try to delete all photostreams and re-set them. If you notice that Aperture becomes unresponsive, Quit Aperture and re-start it. Then right click on the photo and select "edit the photo in an external program". This will create a TIFF version of the photo that caused Aperture to become unresponsive when copying it to the photostream. Reject the original photo and copy the TIFF to the photostream.
Do this will all photos that cause Aperture to become unresponsive when you copy them to a photostream.
Don't forget to rebuild Aperture's database by holding command-option while clicking the Aperture icon. After rebuilding, you will find a lost folder with the fotos that were in the stream.
You may have to re-create the stream after all "bad" photos have been identified and the re-build was successful and then copy all photos in one go.
    Good luck.
