Backing up Photoshop

I want to re-download Windows7 and wipe my hard drive. How do I save Photoshop (cs5) so that I do not have to re-download it?
I have had it a very long time, and do not have the activation code that I used. Is there any way that I can keep this program?

Before you wipe your disk you should deactivate your Photoshop.  Also save any actions, presets and workspaces you might have created that you'll want on your restored system.  (Back up your Photoshop Appdata:  C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5)

  • How do I back-install PhotoShop CS2, 3, or 4?

    How do I back-install Photoshop CS2, CS3, or CS4, all of which I once owned.  I have CS5 currently installed, but need an earlier version for a project.
    Thanks for any help.

    If you already have CS5 installed, I don't think the installer of an earlier version will let you install said earlier version—at least on a Mac.

  • CS4: Easy way to switch to Camera Raw, then back to Photoshop?

    Is there an easy way while editing an image in Photoshop, to "send" it to Camera Raw for quick edits (like Clarity, Temperature, etc.) and then back to Photoshop?
    Right now I have to save my image, go to Bridge, then "open in Camera Raw" and then back to Photoshop.  I'm just wondering if there's a shortcut for this directly from Photoshop that's all.
    Thanks in advance.

    I didn't ask for your opinion about a smooth workflow, just asked if there was that capability.  There's obviously a reason why I need to switch back and forth. I do a lot of unique manipulation, there are functions in Camera Raw that are 500% faster to do than in Photoshop, but there are custom filters I need to apply first. Sometimes that requires me to switch back and forth.  What's NOT a smooth workflow is having to save an image, closing it, opening it another Adobe program, saving it, then back in the first program.
    In older versions of Photoshop you could easily switch back and forth from Photoshop to Imageready with ONE BUTTON CLICK. Just wondering if it's possible to do that with PS and Camera Raw, that's all.

  • Really Getting Back into Photoshop, What Should I Read?

    Hello, all.
    I'm really getting back into Photoshop, what should I read? I just finished the Visual QuickStart Guide, and I have to admit that it has been good for getting me back up to speed quickly, but it's very, very lightweight. I've read Scott Kelby's Photoshop CS2 for Photographers, and although it's good it's too gimmicky for me. I looked at the behemoth Real World for CS2, and that is way more than I need right now.
    Is there anything substantial that would fit between the QuickStart and the Real World?
    I'm a portrait/headshot/editrial photographer. I'm in control of my color and tonality. I don't do collaging or photomerging. I use PS for blemish removal, general localized retouching (clean up stray hairs, cloning out sockets on the wall, things like that...), and some other basic things. I have CS2 at home, where I use PS the most, and CS3 at work.
    Any robust suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much,
    Scott

    Thanks!
    I mentioned that the Real World stuff is too intense for my level right now.
    Ben Wilmore...never heard of him. I'll have to do a little snooping...
    Eismann: you guys seem to be on to something. I like her style. I spent a long time in Borders today checking out her stuff. She has a Masking and Compositing book, a Restoration and Retouching book, and a Creative Digital Darkroom book. Not sure which one would be what I need though :(

  • How to write XMP changes back to Photoshop DOM in CS SDK?

    Hello,
    I'm learning to use the ActionScript library for XMP in conjunction with the CS SDK to build Photoshop panels.
    I see from the Extension Builder samples that the AssetFragger application demonstrates how to use XMP for annotating comments to image files in Illustrator using com.adobe.illustrator.  In the runSet() method the XMP data is manipulated then the changes are stored in the document.  So after creating a new XMP node ( XMPArray.newBag() ) it uses doc.XMPString to write the serialized XMP back to the document, then sets doc.saved = false.
            public function runSet():void
                var app:Application = Illustrator.app;
                var doc:Document = app.activeDocument;
                var updateText:String = AssetFraggerModel.getInstance().xmlTextNugget;
                 var xmpString : String = doc.XMPString;
                var xmpMeta : XMPMeta = new XMPMeta(xmpString);
                var ns : Namespace = new Namespace(xmpMeta.getNamespace("xmp"));
                xmpMeta.ns::AssetFraggerDescription = XMPArray.newBag();
                xmpMeta.ns::AssetFraggerDescription[1] = updateText;
                var tmp : String = xmpMeta.serialize();
                doc.XMPString = tmp;
                doc.saved = false;
    However, using com.adobe.photoshop instead, the XMLString property on the Application activeDocument instance is not available, the doc.saved property is not modifiable (marked as read-only), and the Photoshop Application activeDocument has a xmpMetadata.rawData property available whereas Illustrator did not.  The Photoshop activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData is marked as read only, so it can be used to get the plain XMP as a string directly, but once modified the XMP cannot be updated in that property.  Example:
            public static function traceXMP():void
                var app:Application = Photoshop.app;
                var doc:Document = app.activeDocument;
                var xmpString:String = doc.xmpMetadata.rawData;
                var xmpMeta:XMPMeta = new XMPMeta(xmpString);
                var metaXML:XML = xmpMeta.serializeToXML();
                var Iptc4xmpCore:Namespace = new Namespace(XMPConst.Iptc4xmpCore);
                // demonstrate that a leaf in IPTC can be changed and written to the trace console
                xmpMeta.Iptc4xmpCore::CreatorContactInfo.Iptc4xmpCore::CiUrlWork = 'http://test.com/';
                trace(ObjectUtil.toString(xmpMeta.Iptc4xmpCore::CreatorContactInfo.Iptc4xmpCore::CiUrlWor k.toString()));
                // but now how to write the XMP change back to the Photoshop DOM?
    My question is, for a given image file exported as from Lightroom that is rich in custom IPTC metadata, how does one update the metadata in Photosohp via XMP and the CS SDK?  I was not able to extract this information from the Advanced Topics: Working with XMP Metadata chapter of the CS SDK documentation
    A real, and complete code example would be greatly appreciated over a pseudocode example.
    Thank you in advance.
    Steven Erat

    Ah ha.  Found the problem, thanks to Ian.  When I saw the inline help appear in Extension Builder for app.activeDocument.xmpMetadata, it indicated that the node as [Read Only], however, the leaf app.activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData is in fact not read only. I incorrectly assumed rawData was not writeable when in fact it is.

  • Downloading and reinstalling Adobe Photoshop CS6. Backing up Photoshop CS6 for reinstall

    I had to return my cintiq companion HD tablet and will have to reinstall all of my software once i get it back now. I can't find where to download and install my CS6. I'd also like to create a backup for if this happens again, so I don't have to find it and redownload off the website. How do I do this? I would also like to install it on my laptop as well. I know for my hard copies of photoshop I used to have it was no trouble to put it on my multiple devices, is this still possible? Sometimes I like to use my tablet or travel, and sometimes I like to work on my actual computer, so hoping I can download it on both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Shana

    I had it installed on my cintiq companion just fine before. I had to return it to the manufacturer because it quit charging. Also looking to how to back it up so i dont have to download it again from the website in the future, and also how to put it on my multiple devices IE my laptop AND my cintiq. I purchased CS6 because there is no diskdrive on the companion it has full windows 8 and CS6 was what I purchased so I could download without having to be part of the cloud.
    Any other answers please? Would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is reverting back to photoshop CS6 after a CC subscription possible ?

    I am considering to use to subscribe to the photoshop CC + lightroom 5 offer. I have a full photoshop CS6 lisence so I can use this offer.
    If for some reason I decide to stop my subscription after a year can I still revert back to my photoshop CS6 perpetual license ? Or do I lose the right to do this once I subscribe to creative cloud?
    I realize that in practice there might be compatibility issues with files I modified with photoshop CC, when i want to open them in the "old" cs6, but my question is about the license only.
    My apologies if this question has been asked before.

    Yes, perpüetual licenses never run out - like forever.

  • Changing color label of edits coming back from photoshop

    I am currently using lightroom 3.2 RC.  The issue is when sending a raw file out to photoshop then at the conclusion of editing as the file arrives back to lightroom, it now keeps it original color label (yeah), but if I now attempt to change it's color label from one color to another that I use to denote a completed PSD file, the file losses it color label completely and ends up without a color label at all (similar to what use to happen in 3.0), and I have to go find it and relabel it again.
    hopefully I explained that well enough to catch the fault that exists
    mike

    I only have PSE8 and not Photoshop, but I cannot reproduce this behaviour by externally editing a Raw file in PSE8 from LR. When using PSE, you have to have LR render the PSD on the way to PSE already, which is a difference to Photoshop.
    What technique are you using to assign the new color label when coming back from PS (keyboard shortcur, Metadata panel, ...)?
    I'm using LR3.2RC on WinXP SP3.

  • Saving edited image back to photoshop from lightroom

    In Lightroom 4 and Photoshop cs5 I could export to Photoshop from lightroom...edit....then save and the edited photo would go back to Lightroom complete with edits. Now in LR5 and CC the edited image does not go back to LR I have tried syncing no avail...any idea?

    I just recently started trying to use my Photoshop CS3, after acquiring it 3 years ago, and never quite getting around to tackling it, since I was still using good old PS v.7.0. I finally made the leap. What a shock! The CreativeSuites version is entirely different from the old versions, and, so far, impossible for me to figure out. Most of the functions I was used to are drastically reconfigured from standard PS's. (I'm going to have to get a Users' Manual or take another class.)
    One thing I DID figure out is the function you are questioning. Export a downloaded iPhoto shot - from your iPhoto - to the desktop; Open Photoshop and open the iPhoto shot (will be in the Preview mode) in Photoshop, save as a Photoshop tiff,  and do whatever editing, retouching, etc. in Photoshop. Save, and then from iPhoto, import - fom desktop - back into iPhoto Library.
    If anyone know where i can get a comprehensive (beginners") manual on how to use the CreativeSuite version of Photoshop, please communicate! (After 3 years, I can't locate any manual that may have come with the software and there is no PDF version that I can find on line. I am completely mystified.)

  • Back up Photoshop Elements 11

    I have purchased a boxed retail version of Photoshop Elements 11 last year, in 2012 and recently I thought to back up the disks that came in the box, but whenever I start the copying process, after about 50% is done, the copy dialog box pops up with a message that the disk is write-protected and can't be copied. I know that Adobe made the disks write-protected for reasons against software piracy, but I would like to know how to backup the disks on my computer If I ever lose them or for some other reason.

    One way you could do it is by downloading the trial and saving, not running the files. The trial is the same as the purchased version once you enter your serial number.

  • Backing up Photoshop pictures in windows - Restore in Mac?

    Hi, Possible off topic, but it is important to me:
    if I make a backup in windows and decide to buy a Mac - can I restore the backup in Photoshop for Mac?
    Thanks!

    The main thing with Entourage's database is that messages deleted from the "Deleted Items" folder don't actually go anywhere until you compress it. Deleted messages simply get moved to an inaccessible part of the database, but remain a part of it. So if you never compress it, it will forever grow.
    To compress the database, quit Entourage. Hold down the Option key and launch Entourage. What will come up instead is the Database Utility. If "Main Identity" is the only mail database you have, it will already be highlighted at the top. For me, I always follow this procedure:
    1) Run "Verify database integrity"
    2) Run "Compact database"
    3) Run "Verify database integrity" again to check that compressing didn't didn't damage the database. Entourage also automatically creates a backup before compression so you have something to get back to.
    4) Quit the Database Utility and launch Entourage normally to make sure your database loads as you would expect.
    5) Go to the the folder where the database is and delete the old "Main Identity" folder, which will have a date appended to it.
    6) Back up the freshly recreated database. I put mine in two places. One copy of it to an external hard drive, and again to an 8GB USB flash (thumb) drive for redundancy.
