Backing up pics

hi, i've just started using iphoto for the first time since changing from pc to mac.
i've imported all my photos into iphoto and i want to know if i need to keep the original pictures. i back everything up using time machine including the applications folder.
I just want to make sure that a full version of my pictures is definitely stored in the iphoto folder before i delete the originals
Ta, Owen

Many people archive the photos ot CD or DVD before deleting them
If you are using the default iPhoto preferences (copy item to the iPhoto library is CHECKED) your originals will be kept in the originals folder within the iPhoto library
I do not use Time Machine so can not speak to its back up - I know it does delete older backups when the disk gets full and have no idea how this works with iPhoto (or anything else) - I prefer having a seperate backup for my photos

  • Why does InDesign default back to Picas every time I launch the app?

I have repeatedly set my preferences in InDesign so that the unit of measurements is Inches. Yet, when I launch the app, it defaults back to Picas. Furthermore, even after adjusting the preferences again, when I open a new document the units are still Picas. How do I fix this?

CS5, yes? If so, that's a bug. ID will use the default settings of the language it was installed in. There's a hack to edit the prefs manually, but I don't have a link handy.

  • When i update my IOS7 i lost my all pic from my IPAD2 how to get back those pic? and i don,t think so i did kept back up before i did that. can anyone help me for this issue?

When i update my IOS7 i lost my all pic from my IPAD2 can anyone suggest how to get back those pic? and i don,t think so i did kept back up before i update ios7. can anyone help me for this issue?

The photo's in your camera roll would be in a backup, if you have one (iCloud or iTunes).  If you did not keep a backup somewhere, they are gone.  Sorry, but that is the way of any data - if you don't have a backup of it somewhere, there is nothing to restore it from.
All other photo's should be on your computer somewhere anyway - whereever you had them to sync to the device originally.

  • CS6 New Document - Units and Increments - Ruler Units Defaulting Back to Picas

After setting the Units and Increments prefs to inches, InDesign defaults back to picas when creating a new document. Any suggestions? Should I rebuild my prefs? Or should I just give up and revert to my conversion chart from school?

  • My screen has gone and i need to back up pics, is there anyway way i can?

Please help! My phone broke 5 weeks ago, sent it of to b fixed and come back working etc.
Was on the phone a few days ago and was hot so come off and now the screen is black and i cant see anything. When i plug it into my laptop to transfer all the pics it doesnt let me as i need to unlock it but the phone wont let me do it (as the screen has gone) so is there another way to connect it to my laptop and transfer pictures or could apple access my data?? I really need to get the pictures off of my baby as there is LOADS and dont want to lose em.

Try and do a hard reset by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button and then turning it back on
If that does not work you have to do a restore unfortunately

  • How do I save/back-up pics & music from my eMac? Those USB thingies?

I have had my eMac for about 3 1/2 years. I still love it, but there seems to be a lot of issues that I cannot figure out and I am frustrated, so I am thinking about just getting a newer computer.
My question: How do I back-up, save the pics, music etc. that are on the computer. I guess not just because I want a new computer, but I guess it is really dumb of me not to have it back-up (or whatever the term is
I see this little USB things for sale all of the time at computer stores and at places like Target. Is that all I need or do I need an external hard drive?
I have about 2,000 songs and about 1,000 pictures.
    Thanks a bunch!

To save your songs and pictures, you'll basically want to be saving them to an external hard drive or you can "burn"/save these files to DVDs/CDs, which can then later be transferred to your new computer.
The bigger the total size of the files you want to save, the bigger the requirement is for size of the backup destination for these files (external hard drive, DVD, etc.). In my opinion, a large size (40 GB and up) external hard drive is a wise investment in these days of digital media.
A small USB drive is likely to be too small for saving all the music and image files you're interested in saving.
It is simplest (and perhaps easiest) to backup your entire Home folder (Macintosh HD > Users > Home). This will also save any of your email from the "Mail" application as well as any Documents you've spent time creating.

can i still get back my photos.
i haven't bought new iphone yet ,  do i need to buy new iphone first and connect to itunes, then only i can get my photos?

If you kept your old phone backed up, once you get your new phone you can restore the backup to it.

  • Deleting back up pics from iTunes

My photos are a mess. I wanna clear all photos then upload what I want back. But there are a few photo albums that we're saved from another PC that can't be deleted. I can't access them in iTunes/iCloud or even USB camera on PC. These albums arrived when I changed from a 4 to 5. It's so annoying I'm considering a full restore but when I do that I have all the pics still in my back up. HELP PLEASE thank u

Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process are not included with the iPhone's backup.
If you currently have Sync Photos selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, deselect sync photos followed by a sync which will remove all photos that were transferred from your computer and should remove the photos that were transferred from another computer.
If you don't currently have Sync Photos selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select it and then select the folder or folders of photos on your computer that you want transferred followed by sync. This should remove the photos on your iPhone that were transferred from the other computer.

  • IPhoto 5 Just Won't Import Backed-up Pics

For the past 5 years or so, I've been working on a Dell Inspiron 2500, and just purchased a new Powerbook last week. I love this thing more than I can describe, but was greatly disappointed when I met my photo-organizing companion for this first foray into the world of Apple, iPhoto.
On my Dell, I had been using Google's Picasa2 program to touch-up and organize my photos. (It was a wonderful experience, and it's really unfortunate that there is no Mac version availiable.) I had been using the program to back-up my pictures on an external hard drive, and eventually had my whole photo collection on there.
Then, when I got my Powerbook, I loaded all the pictures from the external hard drive onto my Powerbook hard drive. It went brilliantly fast (I never had used USB 2.0 before!) Soon, I had all my Picasa2 backed-up photos on my new Powerbook.
This is when things went sour. I opened up iPhoto, and began dragging folders from /Documents into empty albums. An error message came up (I have a screenshot stored here: http://standrewsoca.org/screenshot1.jpg ) telling me that I could not add my pictures because they were an unrecognizable file type.
This would make sense if, say, I was shooting RAW, but these were just .JPGs. I could even open them in Preview. But no matter what, I could not get them to load into iPhoto - with a few random exceptions. Some files would load, but there was no understandable reason why they would, and the majority wouldn't. They're all taken with the same camera (Nikon D70) that was shooting straight to .JPG.
My only hypothesis is that Picasa2 somehow bastardized the .JPG files with the special editing tags that it uses to keep track of edits, in order to preserve the original, and so iPhoto can't read these files. Is this feasible?
Also, a second question... is there any way to order Albums in that sidebar chronologically, or is the only method of ordering them alphabetical?
    Thank so much!

    Hi Nilus,
You made the mistake of manually putting your folder of images into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
Drag the folders you put in there to the desktop. Now drag them into an open iPhoto viewing window (the window on the right that shows all the images in your library.

  • Where to find backed up pics on icloud

Hi. My husband said he backed up my pictures to icloud but when i logged onto icloud i don't see a folder for pictures. Where can i find it? TIA

Thank you QuickTimeKirk! Does this mean that the photos are lost if we didn't sync after the 30 days? Where would photostream show up on our IS system? I see a folder on my phone but not on our computer. My husband says he can't find the files anywhere and he assumed that when it said it was backed up to iclould, it was saved. Was he supposed to have done another step to ensure it saved? Thank you for your time and assistance

  • Suggestions for backing up pics?

I have over 50,000 pictures on my Macbook and backup to a network drive. I do this manually which can be very time consuming and certainly not perfect. Can I use Time Machine to check which photos have been backed up and backup up the missing ones to my network drive in the same folder? Folder mirroring I think it's called? If not, can someone suggest a way to automate this process?

Why not just start over, backing-up with an app that's designed to do that? Yes, it will take a while to back everything up again, but thereafter you'll have to do little or nothing.
Time Machine will back up to some network drives, but not all. See #2 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
An alternative would be the Chronosync app.
