Backing-Up Purchased Music

I followed the help screen to Back-up only Purchased music...I followed directions...after 3 hours this error...Burn has Fails. The device has been removed....What? Is the back-up working? This is not acceptable. Is this a problem with the software?
Using G% Dual 2 gig/10.4.10/iTunes 7.4.1 (2)

Metallica, I think you may have misunderstood the iTunes message, there is no separate program through iTunes for backing up. The following link will give you the information you need. Even though it says it's for 5.0, the instructions will apply for 6.0.

  • Backing up purchased music ... on HD ?

    Hi
Is it possible to back-up purchased music with ITunes ... not on the cd/DVD as proposed ... but on a external HD ?
Furthermore ... if I make a copy of the Itunes folder on the external HD, will this enable me to restore my ITines if I ever had a problem ?

Is it possible to back-up purchased music with ITunes ... not on the cd/DVD as proposed ... but on a external HD ?
    Sure it is.
Assuming you aren't using back-up software and are doing it manually, you just make a copy of the files on your external drive.
If you want to back up your entire library - puchased songs and those you've imported yourself as well as playlist and related information (Ratings, Play Counts, Dates Last Played, Equalizer settings, etc.) - and have kept iTunes default settings, everything you need to copy - the iTunes Music and Album Artwork folders and the iTunes library files - is in the iTunes folder - default location C:\Documents and Settings\ user name \My Documents\My Music\iTunes .
This will also let you recreate your iTunes Library if necessary.
If you want to get a bit of a "bigger picture" on back-ups, you might want to make yourself a cup of tea and have a look at this article on the PC World web site and this Microsoft support page .

  • Cannot transfer purchase music to Ipod Mini

Help. I cannot transfer my purchased music from Itunes to my IPOD mini. I can transfer all other music except music purchased from Itunes. Each time I try, I get a message that tells me to update my IPOD software. But I already have the latest software.
I can transfer purchase music from Itunes to my 2nd generation IPOD with no problems. Why can't I transfer purchased music to my IPOD mini?
I've tried the 5Rs and have restored the mini several times, but nothing seems to work.

    Steps to follow:
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Open the store tab.
    3. Click authorize account.
    4. Follow the instructions shown on your screen from that point.
Then you should be able to teansfer the purchased music onto it. If not post back.

I just downloaded iTunes on my new PC and all the music that I have purchased through ITunes that was backed up on the cloud won't play. It is telling me I must authorize this computer before it can play pre purchased music. how do I authorize my computer to play this music?
    Thank you for any assistance.

Tigon's already got you covered here. But I'll chime in with some English localisation advice.
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • How to get back purchased music when computers are no longer available...

We were hit by lightning, again, and lost my wife's Bondi iMac. Those of you who know them realize that they didn't come with CD burners...so we didn't back up her music purchases. In addition, I recently lost my job. The music I purchased on my work computer was purged while I was getting my pink slip. So, I was unable to back it up as well.
So, we have a handful of songs that we purchased on other computers that are no longer available to us. I emailed Apple a couple weeks ago and have not received any answer on how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated.

You have posted on the iTunes for Windows forum
If you have tracks on an iPod then this post which covers macs as well may help:

I am afraid Apple has a download once policy, but you have done the right thing contacting them as I understand they they will occasionally make an exception in special circumstances and allow another download.
Here is a link to an iTunes store contact page, but I expect you have that already:

  • I want to tranfer non purchased music from my iphone 4s back onto my PC that I have re-formatted due to errors.

I want to tranfer non purchased music from my iphone 4s back onto my PC that I have re-formatted due to errors.
I have backed up the iphone onto my newly installed version of itunes.
All the purchased albums/songs have been tranferred.
I tried to tranfer by ticking the sync box but its says it will wipe the iphone and replace it with the new library which has only a fraction of my 1000+ songs.
I have read many reviews that say it can be done with a third party program but when I looked into this they offer free evaluation but want about £20 for the program but feel this can be done at no cost.
The itunes is saying my iphone can only be synced to one PC but the original one is wiped.
Am I right in thinking I should go ahead with syncing the iphone then do the restore. Im just worried that once its synced the music and photos/videos will be gone forever.
If I go down this route, I think I still need to know how to tranfer the non purchased songs from my iphone back onto the PC with the newly reinstalled itunes.

Then you will have to purchase 3rd party  software.

No. You will lose the music that's on the phone if you do that.
The iPhone is not a backup device. Restore the music to your computer using the backup you should have made of your data before you re-formatted it. If you didn't back up your computer, you will have to pay for software to try and extract it from the phone.

It is probably not wise to leave your e-mail and phone number on a public forum.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
    You purchase one download only.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Earlier back up is corrupted. Thank you in advance. No longer have my old iPod but getting new one.

If you had the hard drive from the original machine, a backup of the same, an iPod with the media, or a subscription to iTunes Match then there would have been hope, but alas no.

  • System trouble, Need 2 back up iTunes & purchased music.

I am having some relatively minor, but none the less annoying glitches with my System Using OS-X.3 Panther. (Classic not installed, I use OS9 on diff. partition) I am planning on Zeroing out the drive & partition OS-X resides on & starting with a fresh System.
I am currently using OSX.3/ iTunes v4.7/ QuickTime v6.4. I do not plan on doing any upgrading of the applications or system files beyond what was required to use my current suite of software.
One of my biggest concerns is, I have roughly 5 gigs of music (I have it backed up on DVD's). I have a number of mp3's I purchased through the Apple music store and I want to be sure that I still have them available to me after the fresh system install.
I have done a few searches here but I'm not asking the right question or using the best "Key" words. I've pieced together some of the procedures to do this properly, but I want to be sure that I have it all, in proper order before I risk losing what is a fairly significant investment in music.
    Here is a (sort of) brief description of my system troubles;
The iTunes & iPod have been working fine, with only a few minor hiccups. The rest of my system has been a little touchy lately. Internet apps., (news readers & safari & the like) quitting unexpectedly or freezing, requiring a forced quit. Document & App. Icons doing weird things like changing back & forth, (between low res. & quartz type). All the free disk space starts to spontaneously fill up. Stuff like that!!
Norton AV v9.0.3 doesn't seem to find any virus to account for it, (although Norton seems to have some problems of it's own I won't go into here). It has detected a couple trojans in web cache files recently, but it quarantined them & I deleted the files so hopefully they aren't the problem. (I delete & keep re-deleting the NAV "spacesucking" file, disk still fills up)
I've run DiskWarrior, repaired permissions, used disk first aid & these problems seem to persist. So I've decided to start again from scratch.
If it isn't to much trouble, I would very much appreciate a complete, step by step breakdown on how to re install X, without messing up iTunes or my purchased music & iPod. (or at least a link to any already posted guidelines for this procedure)
    Thank you for your patience,
    Craig
p.s. (I realize I included a lot of system troubleshooting information that might not be particularly relevant to backing up iTunes, but I wanted to be sure that I included everything that might affect a clean install, and someone might recognize the problems I'm having and help me avoid breaking the system next time) Thnx!!

  • I need help getting my purchased music back please

I'm pretty sure i have somehow deleted a lot of music from my itunes and computer accidentally. I am only bothered about getting my purchased music back, most of which now has a grey exclamation mark next to it and says it cannot be located. I have the purchased music on my ipod, which it plays fine on and have tried to put it back on to my itunes by selecting transfer purchases although this only transferred 18 of my purchased songs. Unfortunately my external hard-drive doesn't work anymore and i haven't got the music backed up anywhere else.
Being a student i can't afford to pay for it all again or take a 4 hour round trip to my closest apple store so i am hoping someone online could help me, thank you.
