Backing up question again!!! (a bit different though)

I managed to lock myself out of my previous windows installation, and couldnt get in (Password problems) so I reinstalled Windows on a new drive. I still have access to the old drives files, I just cannot boot to it, so I was unable to backup iTunes - I was syncing my old iTunes installation with 2 ipads, 1 ipod touch, and 1 iPhone. Is there any way I can sync them all to the new installation without either wiping them, or losing my apps. i dont have any music from iTunes, but about 150 apps!

Ok, I have found the iTunes folder with all the old data in it - can I just copy this to my new iTunes installation, or do I have to import it someway?

I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.

Thank you for the replies. Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems. I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work. I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic. When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones. This actually helped. I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems. I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac. I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed. Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

working files aare not backed up as far as I know. You must either 1)"copy to itunes", then use itunes to save as... to your desktop machine. Or 2) use iCloud to keep the docs.
I also learned this the hard way. No way i know of to get the working docs back.

Trying where? What sort of email address? The following answer is based on a guess as to what you are talking about.
If you already have an @me.com address, perhaps as a result of having had a MobileMe account, and you are now setting up an iCloud account with an Apple ID you will find you will be asked to create a new @me.com address, and that you can't add your existing one because it is already an Apple ID.
You can do one of two things:
1. Sign out at System Preferences; sign in with your existing @me.com address and enable Mail.
2. Stay signed in with the present ID and add your @me.com address in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars.

I created a site column at the root of my site and I have publishing turned on. I selected the Hyperlink with formatting and constraints for publishing.
I went to my subsite and added the column. The request was to have "Open in new tab" for their hyperlinks. I was able to get the column to be added and yesterday we added items without a problem.
The problem arose when, today, a user told me that he could not edit the hyperlink. He has modify / delete permissions on this list.
He would edit the item, in a custom list, and click on the address "click to add a new hyperlink" and then he would get the error below after succesfully putting in the Selected URL (http://www.xxxxxx.com), Open
Link in New Window checkbox, the Display Text, and Tooltip:

and I saw in another post, below with someone who had a similar problem and the IISreset fixed it, as did this problem. I wonder if this is resolved in the latest updated CU of SharePoint, the April 2014 CU?

Again, if I update my SharePoint 2010 farm to April 2014 CU is this going to resolve the issue I have?

We had the same issue after applying the SP2 & August CU. we open the case with MSFT and get the same resolution as you mentioned.
I blog about this issue and having the office reference.
Later MSFT release the Hotfix for this on December 10, 2013 which i am 100% positive should be part of future CUs.
So if you apply the April CU then you will be fine.

I have an iphone 4 . A new screen has been fitted front and back. It suffered a bit of a bang. Now when the phone is turned on the apple logo appears but nothing more . Could there be a problem elsewhere ? Other than smashed screen? Any ideas welcome

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings, once complete the set up assistant will ask if you have an iCloud back up, follow on screen instruction to restore from it.

Question about working on different computers on a project?

I'm going to have video footage stored on an external Firewire 800 hard drive and I'm going to work on a project in a lab that has 30 different Macs, so I will not always be working on the same computer.
Do I need to change any settings each time I get on a new Mac or will the project file always open up the media each and every time I double click on it or open it in CS6?

1. When you say you assign a unique drive letter for each external, do you mean you are simply naming the hard drive itself so each of your externals shows up with its own unique name OR are you referring to something else?
In Windows, all drives are deliniated by "drive letter." This is set in the OS, and is part of that absolute Path, such as Z:\[Project Name]\Video. When I get a new external, I set it's drive letter in the OS of each computer and then add a label to it. In Windows, each HDD, whether internal, or external, has an I.D. number, and if one has set the drive letter, when the OS sees that I.D., it knows what to do. I started with Z:\, and worked backward. As my workstation has a bunch of HDD's, I ran out of drive letters, and just started over. However, that means that I cannot have both of my Z:\ externals hooked up at the same time. That, however, is not a problem, as I have each one marked, and they have unique Projects on them, so I should never need both Z:\'s at the same time. Mac's do things a bit differently, and I am certain that I would get it wrong, so will let a Mac-user discuss that with you.
Again on Windows, if one has NOT set the drive letter, then the OS will assign one, and that will depend on the existing drive letters used on the system, and the order that any external devices are plugged in and turned ON. As a for instance, let's say that I plug in that Z:\, into a computer where it has not yet been set to Z:\, it will usually be assigned the next drive letter, for that computer, so it might be F:\, and then my absolute Paths are broken, since they point to Z:\.

Beginner question regarding 32-bit mixing and mixdown workflow

I have a beginner question regarding 32-bit mixing and mixdown.
If I edit some 16Bit, 44.1kHz Stereo WAV Files and put them into multi-track view to do crossfades, how should I do the mixdown?
Audition shows me in multi-track view, that it is doing 32-Bit mixing.
Can I just mixdown to 16Bit, 44.1kHz Stereo without any dithering (as the files are 16Bit, 44.1kHz Stereo to begin with), or will I lose quality that way?
I will be performing a normalization to 96% to the mixdown and then split to tracks in Audition, as in the end I want to to have an audio CD.
I guess I could mixdown to 32Bit, then normalize and in the end save back to 16Bit, 44.1kHz Stereo WAV (with dithering, I suppose?), but I want to avoid any unnecessary converting steps.

Any time you do any processing on a 16bit file in 16 bit only it will degrade the audio slightly due to rounding of the calculations. Working in 32 bit floating point (Audition's default) takes account of all bits generated due to processing.
So it is always best to work in 32 bit, even if your originals were 16, all the way through until the last stage of saving the files for CD burning. Any losses due to conversion will be insignificant against those due to working 16 bit.

Ok, that sounds like a valid approach...but now the question is, when you say you lost the upgrade when you tried to restore, exactly what do you mean? Restore from a Time Machine backup, or another kind of backup? What happened to the operating system when you did that?
If it damaged the operating system, you should be able to recover it by restarting your computer holding either the Option key (should result in a grey screen that shows the macintosh hard drive and a recovery hard drive), or by holding the Command and R keys while starting.
You can use the recovery hard drive to reinstall Mac OS X either way. If the Option key restart, click on the recovery hard drive to boot from that.
Then with either approach you will have a screen with a drop-down that gives you choices, such as install Mac OS X, Disk Utility, Terminal. You will want to use Install (or Reinstall) Mac OS X...note, you must be connected to the internet from this point on.

How to back up multiple iphones/ipads with different icloud accounts but same apple id

I would like to back up 3 idevices each with different icloud accounts to itunes. But they use the same apple id so that itune purchases can be installed on each device (2 iphones and 1 ipad).
All I want to do is create a backup in case the phones need to be restored. I also want to back up before downloading iOS 8.
The Macbook Pro that I will back up to has one user and one itunes library.
Is this possible without mixing up address books and contacts etc? Appreciate if some one could direct me to detail step-by-step instructions if they exist or please tell me how I can do this.

With Family Sharing they don't need to have the same Apple ID anymore.
But backups to iTunes are kept separate among multiple devices; Apple ID and iCloud isn't involved at all. Just make sure the devices do not have the same name.
