Backing up raw data for later - how?

I just made my first DVD from miniDV footage using iMovie and iDVD and it all worked fine. However I want to have the raw data duplicated somewhere and I can't keep it on my computer (too large). the iMovie file is 12gig, so what do i do? is there a way to compress it? what is the best way to preserve the original data?

ps - i tried breaking up the iMovie Project into smaller projects and archiving that data
(using File:Burn project to disc) so I could make other movies at
another time. That goes well and the files appear on the DVDs etc
but then I cannot access them. The DVD initially says I have read
write ability and then after I burn it, I have lost all my
permissions (it goes grey) and I can't open it, copy it or import
it. (It does actually try to copy and import but then says some
clips are missing and it can't continue. aaargh. ) I'd paste a
screen image here of the Info panel but I can't remember how to make
a screen shot

Here's the strategy I'm pursuing. It may not fit your needs but I figured I'd mention it.
I'm making DVDs out of hours of home video. I'm laying the tapes down on DVD in the sequence that's on the tape (i.e., chronological) with a little editing for each "scene". It occurred to me as I did this that it would be fun to, say, make a DVD of first days of school or birthday parties, etc. So I thought about saving the raw footage just as you are with the same questions about media, size, etc.
There are products out there (DVDxDV is one) that claim to let you read unencrypted DVDs and export in QT or DV format for re-importing back into a video editor. If the resulting quality of the "captured" video is as good as the original, then I think that's a good option.

How to continuously do AOAI and buffer the data for later use?

Is there a way to do simultaneous AI and AO and keep the data in the buffer until I am finished with reading, then read the buffer and save the data to disc. I want to acquire 1000 scans on up to 10 chanels at 10 000 Scans/s, while generating one output signal.
I have seen plenty of continuous AIAO examples, but all they do is show the data. I don't mind not viewing the data, all I want is to hold it for later analysis, while avoiding writing to disc as I fear this will slow the process too much. Or would a different approach than simultaneous AIAO be more appropriate?
I am using LabView 6.1 with 6024E DAQ card on a P-IV 1.5GHz.

Prepare ALV data for later display

Hi, I have an ALV report that may run (and prepare ALV data) for a long time depending on selection screen parameters settings.
I need the user to be able to select whether he wants to display the data immediately (foreground run), or save the result in db (run in background) and as a next step in the same program to display in foreground the previously saved data.
I can do it manualy via custom table and custom logic, bud before I do so I would like to ask - is there a better or some standard SAP solution/framework? Because I think this type of requirement may be needed quite often, and in past have seen somethink like this in some SAP transaction I but I dont remember it.
PS: I know about a possibility to run in background and check spool for an ALV LIST output, but the user needs to see ALV GRID with functions like sorting, export, no page headings etc.

Research semi-presistent data. Personally, I would create an INDX-like table (research this) and export the data to that table. Upon request to display, import the data from your INDX-like table, construct and call your ALV.
This is useful, too, when you have a variety of reports for a module, perhaps SD. One can identify all the columns needed and select and assemble the data, and then store in an INDX-like table for later. Then each report program can import the data, utilize the columns and rows needed to present that particular report, without reselecting all the data from the database.

If i have "saved my tabs for later", how do i recover them during a later session?

with several tabs open, i chose "save tabs for later". i then quit firefox, and did not "restore the previous session" when i opened it next. i have now opened firefox again, and would like to restore the tabs that i had previously saved. how do i do that?
i am using firefox 6.0.1 on a mac with os 10.6.8.

I guess when you update to 6.0.1 it defaults to "clear browser history" every time you exit. So if you have it set to save your session it will give you the option when you quit, but end up clearing your history, so it won't be able to restore it.
1. First go to Tools>Options
2. Privacy>History
Here there will be History options, Select "Use custom settings for history"
3. Make sure "clear history when Firefox closes" is UNChecked
I am using Windows, so the commands may be different.

Yes, the above calculation I used the sizing helper tool. I have 1k servers and average 30 custom monitors for each server, while Microsoft default MP mostly is disabled. Besides that, I have additional management pack like SQL and Sharepoint.

Retrieving session data for user (HOW ?)

I have written an ecommerce site which uses HttpSession objects for storing data (ie users shopping cart). The touble I have is that when the user clicks pay, there request goes to a different server and if valid that server does a callback to my server.
PROBLEM - When I receive the request for the call back I have lost the session data. I am able to pass hidden form params in the callback request, so I can send the session id.
QUESTION - AM I able to retrieve a session with the stored ID. I did try appending jsessionid=<sessionID> into the call back URL but it still created a new session.

How about this
1) Implement HttpSessionListener interface and hold your own list of sessions in Hashtable
2) Send session id to request and get it back with from callback
3) Search in your Hashtable your lost session.
4) Enjoy

P.S. The way you're trying is hacky... I mean session id sometimes handled in parameters (as you have tried to hack) or in cookies.

GNU R can read .csv files and use first line as names and # lines as comment.
mydata.csv should look like this:

Comparing two GUID of ABAP raw data type in Web Dynpro

For that I am trying to compare the GUID of each table. But I am not successful as the GUID is of RAW data type. How can I compare them in Web Dynpro Java?.

I have been able to get rid of the problem posed in my earlier mail about assigning values from a field symbol to an internal table. Now its back to the same old problem.
As mentioned earlier I have a view1 in which I am populating a range (select option), which I want to display on the next view, view2.
On view1, on click of the button, I have populated internal table I_RANGE2.
DATA: IT_RANGE2 TYPE TABLE OF ZTTRANGE.
ZTTRANGE is a table type in SE11 with linetype as ZRANGE (structure in SE11).
I want to pass I_RANGE2 to the method in the component controller:
WD_COMP_CONTROLLER->HOLD_DATA( CHANGING IT_RANGE = IT_RANGE2 ).
In the component controller the parameter IT_RANGE has been declared as
PARAMETER TYPE REFTo Associated Type
IT_RANGE Changing u221A (Tick) ZTTRANGE
But I am getting an error:
IT_RANGE2 is not type-compatible with formal parameter IT_RANGE.
Please help resolve this error.

Basic BI questions of calculating formulas from raw data on 15-min and 1-hr intervals?

I'm new to BI and I'm working on a project that (I believe) can help me gain experience with this technology. The formula I'm working on now is really the simplest one.
We have 15-minute data that has tons of counters. I'm currently storing in a table called [Counter15MinCityDataRaw], like so:

This is the raw data. The first formula I'll be working on is [TotalPopulation], that looks like this: [TotalPopulation] = (Q + (Auto+Man))
/ 400. Q equals the Number of quarters being processed (ie. Q =
1 for 15-minute interval, Q = 4 for 1-hr interval)
So my intial requirements is to create a report that displays the [TotalPopulation] for each City in 15-min and 1-hr intervals.
So I already created both [DimDate] and [DimCity] tables, although I don't think they're going to help when I calculate the 15-minute intervals and the 1-hr intervals. Also, can I use the raw data as
is for the fact table, or would I need to group the data by city and counter (in
this case Auto and Man) into a new fact
table?
So my question is: do I need a dimension table for the 15-minute intervals and 1-hour intervals? How would my Fact table look like? Would I also need a dim table for the Q variable?

If i understand it correct you can create one more dimension as DimQuarter, which will have members 15 Min interval, 30 Min interval, 45 min interval, 1 hour interval.
The next step is to add a column on top of Raw Data for Quarter surrogate key along with existing dimensions.

I looked over the example you mentioned and it actually
doesn't appear to read in raw values. It uses the DAQmxReadAnalogF64 function,
which means that it's actually reading in voltage values. DAQmxReadRaw is used to read in raw values.
When you call
the DAQmxCreateAIVoltageChan function before it you have the option of setting
a parameter for the scale (customScaleName), which in the example you mentioned
is set to NULL so these are the actual voltage values.
Is there any particular reason you're using VC++ instead of LabVIEW?
Confirm the values that VC++ reads in with those read in by LabVIEW and let me
know if there is still a discrepancy.

I have normalized my data in Excel and I have a column: "question 1" and then a column for "gender" which has values as "female" and "male". I have created a pivot table for these two variables, "Gender" and
"Question 1". My values for Females and Males from the Gender data are presented within my pivot table. I want to present these numbers as percentages of Total "Females" and "Males" that are in the "Gender" column in
my master dataset. Pivot tables will only allow me to do %'s of data already in the pivot table
I am attempting to use Calculated Fields within Pivot Tables to resolve this. I do not want to create a separate column in my master data set, but rather, complete all calculations within the pivot table

The steps you provided use the total "gender" within the pivot table as the "grand total".
If I have a binomial variable, "gender" with "male" as one of the variables, I need the grand total be the total male in the raw data.
Example: if there are 100 total males in the raw data for the column "gender"
and I construct a pivot table with a dependent variable which is a survey question and "gender" and 30 males "agreed" with the survey question and 20 females "agreed" with the survey question, your instructions for % of grand total would show 60% for
males who agree [males + females who replied to the survey question],
when, what I need is the total males in the raw data, 100, used as the total so that the percentage of males who answered "agreed" to the survey question is 30% of all males.

How to convert number datatype to raw datatype for use in data warehouse?

I am picking up the work of another grad student who assembled the initial data for a data warehouse, mapped out a dimensional dw and then created then initial fact and dimension tables. I am using oracle enterprise 11gR2. The student was new to oracle and used datatypes of NUMBER (without a length - defaulting to number(38) for dimension keys. The dw has 1 fact table and about 20 dimension tables at this point.
Before refining the dw further, I have to translate all these dimension tables and convert all columns of Number and Number(n) (where n=1-38) to raw datatype with a length. The goal is to compact the size of the dw database significantly. With only a few exceptions every number column is a dimension key or attribute.
The entire dw db is now sitting in a datapump dmp file. this has to be imported to the db instance and then somehow converted so all occurrences of a number datatype into raw datatypes. BTW, there are other datatypes present such as varchar2 and date.
I discovered that datapump cannot convert number to raw in an import or export, so the instance tables once loaded using impdp will be the starting point.
I found there is a utl_raw package delivered with oracle to facilitate using the raw datatype. This has a numbertoraw function. Never used it and am unsure how to incorporate this in the table conversions. I also hope to use OWB capabilities at some point but I have never used it and only know that it has a lot of analytical capabilities. As a preliminary step I have done partial imports and determined the max length of every number column so I can alter the present schema number columns tp be an apporpriate max length for each column in each table.
Right now I am not sure what the next step is. Any suggestions for the data conversion steps would be appreciated.
