Backing up & restoring movies on iPod

I have the 5th Gen/Video iPod. I have download around 10 movies and a few TV shows. My question is can I save just the movies and TV shows to a DVD after watching and remove them from my computer/iPod so I can purchase more but then later on say remove newer ones and restore the ones I originally removed to the DVD. Otherwise purchasing movies are going to bog down not only the iPod but my computer. I've hesitated in purchasing more because of this.

Does this help?

I have a ipod touch 5 and when i was loading to my computer i chose to restore my data from my last ipod which did not have a camera. Then after all my music was uploaded i noticed that all the pictures i had taken on my new ipod had been deleted. I think it may be because i chose to restore my last ipod which no photos on it. I was wondering if there is any way to restore my lost photos?

If you backed up the iPod before restoring it then restore from that backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
Also, if yoo have that backup you can extract the photos by:
Recover iPhone, iPad or iPod photos from backups with Picturescue
If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

    or what could i do

There are two solutions . . . I run my iTunes Library off an external hard drive. However, this may limit the portability of your library. Though a La Cie Rugged external would help with that (I love mine, though I use it for diagnostics and repair, not for iTunes--but it does get around).
You can also upgrade your hard drive as was previously suggested. I've bought my recent hardware from: http://www.powerbookmedic.com
They have lots of parts and great manuals!
    Good luck!

You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPod.
Take special note of the article about using recovery mode. Many times, that is the only way to bypass the pass code and restore the device.

If you cannot restore that way, you may have to use recovery mode.

    Hi clarity,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You may want to first try removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes by following the steps in this article:

  • I push restore on my ipod touch but didnt mean to how do i get all my music back

i pushed restore on my ipod touch but i didnt mean to how do i get my all my music i had on it

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.
The iCloud backup includes iTunes purchases only.
You can redownload iTunes purchases likePhilly_Phan said

  • I am trying to restore an older iPod Touch, but do not have the passcode.  I am getting an error message saying that I need to free up some space, but I cannot because I don't have the passcode and have never synced this device to my account.  Help..

I am trying to restore an older iPod Touch, but do not have the passcode.  I am getting an error message saying that I need to free up some space, but I cannot because I don't have the passcode and have never synced this device to my account.  Help..

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Otherwise follow varjak paw recommendation

  • Can't Restore - 4th Gen iPod

I have a 4th generation iPod. I had a song start to skip one day and the next time I tried to connect to my computer iTunes did not recognize my iPod.
I've gone through all the suggested steps on the website even up to and including uninstalling/reinstalling the usb mass storage device, updating driver etc. The iPod is now listed with the usb mass storage device and I tried updating the driver but it says everything is ok or no newer driver than what I have already is available. But Itunes does not see my iPod and keeps freezing up. When I did get it to recognize an iPod it only said iPod and listed it as having a problem and suggested to Restore but when I hit restore it couldn't do it. Now it won't recognize the iPod at all. How do I wipe out the iPod and start over? I've also tried iPod Updater 2006-01-10 and 2006-03-23 and I get the message Invalid iPod Service Version and it closes. I have to put the iPod in Disk Mode to disconnect. When I hit button and menu to reset, after the apple appears I get the ! folder error message.
This is so weird I never had any problems and then I noticed a song started to skip and then it was skipped over and the next time I connected to my computer I had all these problems listed above!
Also I almost forgot there is an autoplay window that pops up sometimes with a flashlight searching for something, what I have no idea. I guess it happens when I leave the iPod plugged into the computer for awhile(I keep trying to get something to work.) and it searches for quite awhile and then disappears. No messages just pops out like it popped in.
From reading others posts I'm noticing people are having a similiar problem after they downloaded the newest version of iTunes. Could there be a problem or bug with iTunes?
So... I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the older version. It actually recognized the iPod but only that an iPod was connected and it said some files maybe corrupted and suggested a restore. I tried to restore but got this error message:
There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod “iPod”. The requested resource was not found.
It went back to not recognizing the iPod again.
I also did a system restore to undo changes on my computer and went back a few days. Nothings changed. I did find in case anyone reads this with a similar problem, that if you go to a mac computer and plug in I may be able to restore my iPod (which works in reverse if you have a Mac, go to someone with Windows) so when I hookup on my computer again it should install any updates I need. I won't be able to do this until Monday night. Since I'm going out of town Tuesday night and need my iPod to be working I'm hoping this will work.
Is there anyone here who can help? I use my iPod to learn music, I'm a singer, and this is really freaking me out. Even if someone says its screwed throw it out which I hope is not the case but any feedback would ease my mind.

Does it still turn on to the Apple logo?
If it does, turn it on and hold it up to your ear. If it's making a clicking sound, try hitting it easy a few times on the side. The idea is the hdd is "stuck" and hitting it loosens it. Just don't do it too hard to break it.

  • How can I back up my iPhone and iPod to a new iCloud account without losing any data?

    Hello
Before Mountain Lion comes out I want to create a new iCloud account because I don't want to use the @me.com email that I created with my current iCloud account. I want to create an entirely new account with a new @me.com email address. I use iCloud to back up my iPhone, iPod and am signed into it on my mac. Basically I want to back up my iPhone and iPod to a new iCloud account and not lose any data. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks so much for any help.

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise your phone will be wiped during the following sync.
    Then back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • Is there a way to copy or back up contacts from my Ipod touch without using Itunes?

Is there a way to copy or back up contacts from my Ipod touch without using Itunes?

Are you sure that you can transfer contacts from the iPod to Skydrive?
I would try the links that I previusly provided and try to get iTunes to see the iPOd so you can do everthing right.
If you find a computer that can see the iPOd yu can update the iPod on that computer.  See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
Yu can make that your suncing computer by -
    - Transfering iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Connect the iPod and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Dvices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore from that backup. That will also update the iPod.

  • I recently had to install a new hard drive in my computer. This caused me to have to reload all content back to my iTunes and iPod. I have many apps on my iPod and i don't know how to transfer those back to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

I recently had to install a new hard drive in my computer. This caused me to have to reload all content back to my iTunes and iPod. I have many apps on my iPod and i don't know how to transfer those back to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I'll post when I find a way around it and I will . iOS 6 took away most of my AirPlay functionality . to hek with iPhone 5 I'm starting to look at android. big bummer apple

  • How to get the organized files back when you move to a new computer

How to get your file folder organization back when you move to a new computer?

Your PSE8 is using the default, new empty catalog that's created when PSE is installed.
In Windows, search your entire computer for this file:
    catalog.pse8db
The largest one that's found will be your old catalog.  If your computer people didn't restore that catalog file (and its entire directory), ask them where the heck it is.
