Backing up Satellite P 25

I have a Satellite P25 S526 which I bought in either 2004 or 2005. I have had only minor problems with it until now. I will get in to that in later post but for now here is the problem. The laptop came with a cd-rw and DVD drive there was no floppy disc capability included. I have tried transferred everything to an external memory for backup but when I tried to make a disc that is when H found out the computer can only make floppy disc backups which as I said earlier I don't have. How do I make backups of my laptops contents. I am using windows XP and the maximum 2 G's of memory if that helps.

As Defender says, there are lots of other possibilities. I use ShadowProtect to back up files to a USB-connected hard drive.

FYI to anyone with the same issues wishing to downgrade....just did this using the official Apple 7.1.2 IPSW file and it worked fine. I'm still keen to move to iOS 8 once they iron out the issues but for now I get my preferred user experience back!!

Future of FIOS TV? Time to switch back to satellite?

What's the future looking like for FIOS TV? I haven't really seen a whole lot of new HD channels added, I think the most recent ones I can think of were MSNBC and Fox News. But there are lots of other HD channels out there that it looks like a lot of people have been asking for, and we don't really see a whole lot of action.
There's talk that FIOS is out of capacity on the QAM channels?
There's talk that adding new channels cost money (even if they're just HD versions of the same SD channels), though I don't necessarily mind paying a few bucks more for more HD channels, since FIOS is still a better deal than satellite and cable.
There's talk that a lot of the channels requested like E! HD, BBC America HD, G4TV HD, are not full-time HD channels, or they're not popular enough to get added. Other channels are not available due to blackout restrictions or other reasons.
But I can't ignore the fact that Dish Network and DirecTV are working very aggressively to add new HD channels. What's FIOS doing about this? Are they working on adding more? Or are they cutting back since Verizon is cutting back on FIOS expansions and deployments?
This is not flame bait. So this isn't one of those "Well if you're so unhappy with FIOS then leave, and good riddance" posts.
I love FIOS and I'd be giving up a lot if I were to ditch FIOS TV:
1. My FIOS Internet bill will jump because my plan is not offered anymore, and I'd have to jump up or down to a different plan, and I won't be qualifying for a bundle discount anymore
2. I have my own Tivo HD boxes, and I love Tivo.
3. The TV in my office which I plug directly into FIOS to watch local channels without a receiver box will need its own satellite receiver, which is an additional monthly cost.
4. The picture quality is nicer on FIOS.
But I also don't want to stick around if FIOS is going to stand idly by while DirecTV and Dish add new programming like crazy.
What do you guys think? Are you thinking about switching, especially those who have been requesting for certain new channels for a while now? At what point do you give up and switch to get what you want?

I managed to talk to my buddy at Verizon tech support and got a face to face meeting with one of the Managers there. One of the things we discussed was the lack of communication between Verizon and and public. I asked why there were no public discussions about what is comming up in terms of programming, equipment and other technical updates.
I was told that Verizon doesnt do that because they "dont want to set expectations, and then not come through".
I understand that but they dont have to give exact dates or anything, just something like. Its comming some time this year. Or it will be out in the near future. Or It wont happen for several years. Something is better than the nothing we get now.
We went round and round on this subject. All boiling down to they dont want to give out info to the public. I pointed out, that as an "advanced user" that I am not asking for exact dates and times. I just want to know that BBC Am HD is going to be out this year, or that the new stb's will be out in the next few months, or something like that. I understand that thing happen, the economy changes, priorities get changed, so I dont hold them to specifics, just let us know and keep the public in the "general loop". I tried to explain that other companies all share general info with their customers and Verizon does not. Unfortunatly I think I was talking to a block of wood because I couldnt get that through her head. She just came back with the same balone about not setting expectations. If she is any indication of the people that are making the decisions, I feel sorry for all us customers. She did say that there are big plans for the HD programming and the equipment being used but refused to go into greater detail.
I left the meeting more frustraited than I was when I started. But basically they dont want to put the info out to the public. I guess we will just have to be supprised when things happen

How do I switch between satellite and apple tv?

I am proud I hooked up my Apple TV, (tech dummy), but now I can't switch back to satellite for other programming. Do I have to disconnect and start over? I did not use "input" on TV before installing. Can't, or don't know how, to do it now. How do I do this? Apple TV works well! I'm afraid to take it apart.

Depending on how your satellite connects to your tv you will need either your sat. remote or your tv remote to switch it back to the correct input for that. For instance my HDTV has a coax input for my satellite and I have to switch to HDMI input for my AppleTV. I either need more information to walk you through it more or you can start punching buttons. That should be the readers digest version though.

Mac Mail won't go online

I am using a MAC PRO version 10.6.7, I recently went with Charter cable and opened a new e-mail account with charter. The mailbox worked fine with embarqmail and Gmail but it won't go online with Charter and I can't send mail unless I go online and sign into Charter. Is there a fix or just quit Charter and go back to satellite?

Create a new bootable hard drive with XP - without CD reader

All,
   Since couple of years my Satellite CD reader is dead. Most probably an hardware failure, the CDs are spinning but that's all ... unbale to read them at all.
As the PC is getting slower and slower, I decided to refomat and re_image it.
    As I can't use the CD reader, I have to create the bootable hard drive (with the XP-Home edition provided when I bought the laptop) using another machine (A DELL or a Toshiba Portege I have also at home).
    For that I remove the hard drive fro, the satellite and put it in the other machine, and then reinstall windows ont it.
Everything went fine, untilI plug back the satellite hard drive to its original host (Satellite machine.
It refuse to boot and stop just after loading the MUP.Sys drivers (classique as the hardware is diffrent)
   My questions are :
   1. Any way I can create a proper bootable drive for Satellite 5105-S501 in such conditions (any place I can download an image for it)
   2. I can' enter the BIOS (ESC key do not let me in, F1 and F12 same ...). Any way to force to enter in the BIOS
   ESC key just show me the message : Type F1 for default :_°

Thanks so much for replying to my question! I am new to MAC and have Tiger and Windows XP on separate drives. I will be removing the drive with Tiger and putting in a new drive to load Leopard and I wondered how that would effect accessing Windows XP since the Windows drive will remain in the system. Is there anything I need to do with bootcamp, since Windows was loaded using the Beta version of bootcamp, and bootcamp icon currently shows in the Windows XP taskbar. Tiger was pre-loaded when the computer was purchased. In fact I had to backdate the beta bootcamp version in order to get it to work. I hope this is not asking too much, but I wondered if there would any problem with Windows after the Leopard load.

How to channel surf just my favorite channels

I just got the X1 box with the really minimal remote. There is no longer a Fav button - how do I channel surf through my favorites? I don't mean filter the guide - I know how to see the list. I want to just surf through without having to see every dang channel in existence.

I am considering going back to satellite for this reason alone. I hope someone from Comcast marketing is paying attention to this. It is such a fundemental feature it is surreal that they would take that capability away. Every TV or cable box I have had for 30+ years has come with the ability to choose the channels that you cycle through with the channel up and down keys. This is a conscious decision someone has made to force people to tune to every one of the 500 or so channels and it is nuts!

I am ready to DROP Comcast over a 2 year dispute.

I just got off the phone for what has been at least 20 conversations concerning a returnedmodem 2 years ago.I dropped the box off at the local location that is of course no longer in business.Had I known Comcast would keep bringing this up and charging me $10 every month, I would have placed the receipt in my safety deposit box.Here's the Bottom Line.. I returned the box, that was used with my ex husbands computer but continue to be charged. They always give me a ticket number and tell me they understand but continue to charge me.Comcast did tell me today if I pay $90 they will write the obsolete box off and stop charging me. My calculations show I have paid over $200 since I returned this box. My contract runs out next Month, I will drop Comcast and go back with satellite service if Comcastdoes not do the right thing. Satellite C855D-16J - How do I get Windows 8 back to normal?

It's a long story how this all happened.
Basically, it all started when I decided to give Ubuntu a go.
After going through with the setup and completing the installation, I'd realised I'd made a terrible mistake; I'd wiped my hard drive entirely.
Next I had to spend hours looking for a method to reinstall Windows 8. I found a helpful post on some forum and burned a Windows 8 recovery ISO to my USB stick.
Installation was successful and I got Windows 8 back, or so I'd thought...
It turns out I only had an evaluation version. On my desktop it says the following;
'Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation'
Windows License valid for 90 days
Build 9200'
I thought that if I could use the product key that's hidden in the BIOS, using Keyfinder, I could get it working again with [ this|http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only] , but nope. I got the error: 'This product key cannot be used to install retail version of windows 8'
My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite C855D-16J, came preinstalled with Windows 8. I'd like to know how to get this thing working again.
I don't have any money to spend(not that I should need to spend anything) and would like help urgently, please. Some ISO or key or anything. It's enough to lose my files, I don't want to be stuck with laptop I can't use

Hmmm... stupid situation now.
If I understand you right you didnt create recovery media. Thats your biggest mistake.
Problem is that recovery image is not for public usage and cannot be downloaded anywhere.
You have two possibilities now:
1/to install own OS version
2/to order original recovery disc (link is posted by Tom)
I must also say that order is not for free and costs about 30 Euros but believe me it is best solution for you. Using this disc you will have factory settings again and preinstalled OS version will be activated.

Satellite U400 wont turn on & when on wont come back from sleep mode

I have a Satellite U400 and its a year and a few months old.
In the last little bit it has been acting up, and it started with when the computer goes to sleep and goes to the black blank screen it will not come back from that.
The only way to do anything is hold in the power key till it turns off and then turning it back on. This brings me to the warning screen I have turned my computer off incorrectly. It has been doings this for a few weeks and started randomly out of the blue.
Then just today it wouldnt turn on at all, I was pressing the power key and the key itself would light up, and on the bottom right hand side the little lights would light up but wouldnt turn on, I kept pressing it over and over and over again and finally it did turn on. Once on I only used it for a few mins before turning off again and then would do the same thing, I kept pressing the bottom till it turned on. Its been on now and hasnt turned off again.
Not to log ago I had to reformat my computer due to me forgeting my password and had locked myself out of the computer. About a week after that is when the issues started. I am not all that computer smart, to be honest, I do understand something things, I can follow step by step to do something.
I really dont want to pay to have it fix I want to just do it myself and soon as its in great shape and never had any issues before.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or why it could be?
I am thinking about reformatting again as I am worried that didnt work out right the 1st time or something.
Or if this is something that needs to be repaired does anyone have a clue on the cost of it?

sounds like a serious problem to me.
try the following: take out battery, cd-rom, hdd and try again.
if it starts up without this components - you got lucky!
this means it probably a software issue (but i dont think so - sorry)
do you see the toshiba logo / bios messages? no - the you are in trouble.
this strange behaviour could depend on many things: defektive components like ram or grafics... or (badest thing) the mainboard...
if you have still warranty on it you should go to a servicepartner having the system checked.

Satellite L300 Windows 7 back to Vista with Toshiba Recovery CDs

Hello all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Series L300 (2008 model) laptop which originally had Vista but I installed Windows 7 Professional on it. I now wish to return back to Vista.
I noted that the 'Windows.old' folder created on the C:/ drive seems to be missing a lot of files and could have been altered since the date it was created. I think it would be too risky to use it to recover back to Vista.
So my question is can I use my original set of Toshiba Recovery DVDs to get back to Vista? I want to do a full factory reset to recover my system to when it was originally purchased with Vista.
If the Recovery DVDs is not an option and the only was is by using the Windows.old folder, if it is lacking important files could it leave my system corrupted? I am sure there is a way to get back to Vista by factory restore somehow.

Wait a moment. You mix two different things. If you want to install original recovery image it can be done on two ways:
# Using created recovery discs DVDs
# Install image using HDD recovery method (recovery image saved on HDD)

This description is related to method 2 and has nothing with installation with Toshiba recovery disks as you wrote in your last posting.
Method 2 can be used if notebook has factory settings. After own OS installation recovery image is not available anymore and recovery image can be installed with recovery discs only.
I hope you understand now how it works.

Satellite A210-19T: Win 8 Beta is a nightmare but I can't get Vista back.

I could really do with some help.
I was one of the fools that decided to try Windows 8 a few months back only to find that I cannot seem to reverse it and now my laptop is virtually useless to me.
I can't seem to find a reboot disc but I'm not even that sure I received one in the first place.
From what I've read online, Toshiba put everything on a partition and you access it by pressing a shortcut when the machine loads up.
I've tried that but the new Wonderful Windows 8 won't let me access it, should it even be there in the first place.
I've got a valid machine with a valid serial etc. I just want the old OS back ASAP.
I put my serial in on the support page and this is what it says I have:

Thats right but you will have access to this partition with factory settings only. Problem is that after own OS version you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation anymore.

Correct, but this valid serial belongs to OS that you got with your notebook. In Toshiba users manuals is clearly described how notebook owner should create recovery DVD and have back-up of original recovery image. Using this disc you can install recovery image anytime you want.
If you dont have it there are two possibilities only:
-to order new one from https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx (it will not be for free)
-to install own OS (you cannot use serial from the sticker)
Sorry but it is a bit complicated now.

Satellite Pro M30: Clock keeps going 1h back

One of the users has a Satellite Pro, model No:PSM35E, the clock on the PC keeps going 1hr back. Even after the clock is changed to the correct settings (GMT...etc, Daylight saving is ticked). But when it's restarted it defaults to go back 1hr?
Any known issues with this???

I have found this issue on many PC forums and it is not related to specific PC or notebook and the strange is that I have never found any explanation for this. If your unit is permanent online I recommend you to use Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server option in Date and Time properties.

Have you tested an external monitor on the notebook?
If the external monitor works fine it seems to be an internal display issue and must be replaced.
Are you running the factory settings on your notebook or have you installed your own Windows version? Before you go to an authorized service provider you should restore the factory settings to determine if its a hardware or software problem. With the factory settings all should work properly and if not in my opinion its a hardware problem.

I have also noticed that the data from section that usually displays data from TOM TOM and others now just says others. Has anyone encountered this before or know how to get the Satellite function on maps back?

Your phone is "stuck" in the Chinese version of maps. This also happened to me once I got back from China recently. I believe I solved the problem by logging out of iCloud and reloging in.
BTW the App Store app was also stuck in China. It only displayed Chinese characters and I had to log out and relogin.
