Backing Up Saved GPS Locations

Hello,
I went on a 3-month trip around Asia with my E72. Along the way, I had saved some GPS coordinates at certain landmarks.
Then, one day, my phone fell into the salty waters at a beach... the phone is pretty much useless now. However, the E72 can still syncronise with my PC.
ONE PROBLEM. The screen is broken. I can only see black when the phone is turned on. My question is ... is there a way to pull the saved GPS locations from Ovi Maps (from my phone) and save them on my computer? I currently use a Nokia E6 (nice upgrade from the E72), if that helps with solving this problem...
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
Davies

@E72_User
Unless device had been set to synchronise with Ovi on start up & shut down of Ovi Maps application unfortunately I think that this information is now lost to you unfortunately; in retrospect sending yourself an Email with .lmx data from time to time would have seemed a good idea.

  • N8 geotagging (GPS location info) with video not a...

Why does my N8 have a setting which I can enable or disable capturing geolocation information for videos if it doesn't actually do it?
My original firmware (PR1.0 ?) had the option.
    PR1.1 had the option.
    PR2.0/Anna had the option
The betalabs camera update for Anna also has it.
When you finish recording a video, you get the preview screen where you can play it back right away.  If you hit OPTIONS->DETAILS, and then scroll down to LOCATION, you will see lat/lon information there (if you have a gps link).  Nowe exit out of the preview and camera app and go into your recorded video listing.  Find this video and see if it has GPS info.  It doesn't.  A picture does, but videos do not.
JPG's have an exif "layer" where this type of information (including the settings used to take the picture) can be stored and embedded right into the image.  However, I'm not even aware of this type of embedding available with MP4 video files.  Maybe it exists, but, the N8 is not able to display the lat/lon after you exit the recording preview.
How is it possible that this feature is still there, not usable, and nobody says anything about it and Nokia leaves it as an available option...?
    Or am I missing something?
No matter where I post it, no web site is able to retrieve the lat/lon from the MP4 (if it's in there) like they do with images.  Picasa, flickr, etc are all able to pull this info from within the file and display a map.  I'm not even aware of a viewer that could display this info for a video file in order to have an external verification.  But, I don't think it's storing it anyway.

I just tested it on my Nokia N8 (Running Symbian Anna ) and Nokia Beta Labs latest version of the Camera application.
I have set so capturing geolocation information is saved for video.
I Record a video and as you say if you playback the video right away Choose Options -> Details  I get the GPS location shown.
I  then go to Meny -> Photos
Choose the Check button (bottom left)
Then select the Video, then go to Options -> Details
I also get the GPS coords under Location here.
This location data is not shown if you show details under Meny -> Videos though..

  • Auto-Analyzer adds GPS location of 0 degrees/0 degrees

Another reason not to run the Auto-Analyzer: For files not having EXIF GPS locations, it will add a longitude/latitude of 0 degrees/0 degrees.   This wll only show up after you've done File > Write Keyword Tag, or after you add a keyword tag and then invoke the full Editor.

No one else seems to have experienced this problem ? I am the person who wrote to Mr Ellis, at first about the PSE problem with appended tags and then about bad geotagging. I am not happy with PSE8 and what it seems to have done to the metadata in the ORIGINAL photos.I was so annoyed with PSE8 that on Friday I deleted the catalog I and started to uninstall the program. But, problem 1 - can anyone find the Deactivate button - it's not in my help menu ?
Anyway to follow on from John's comment. Yesterday, I took 60 new photos, I geocoded them ALL using a GPX track file loaded in Geosetter. In all of my viewers the photo location was shown correctly. In PSE8 Auto analyzer was OFF. After adding some keywords and using File/Write Keyword tag only 20 of the 60 photos remained correctly geocoded.
The end result of my experiment is, after File/Write Keyword :
    (i) photos which weren't already geotagged are shown as 0,0 in PSE8's map (e.g. my bathroom project was done somewhere near the African coast !)
(ii) Only 20 of the 60 that were already tagged showed correctly in PSE8's map and in the other viewing software I have.
(iii) The other 40 also show correctly in the PSE8 map and in Geosetter.
(iv) The other 40 do NOT show correctly in Nikonview NX, Opanda IEXIF,Robogeo,XnView and Rawtherapee. In all of these the EXIF metadata field for longitude is incorrect with a blank in the LongitudeRef field or just missing. In the Catalog I deleted on Friday, PSE8 ( I think it is PSE8 ?) has made these unwanted changes to many of the original pictures in the My Pictures folder (10,000 odd photos) and I am not happy !
Today, I tried one other thing. In PSE8 I relocated one of the 40 photos to "London" and did a File/ Write Keyword. This photo now worked in all of the viewers. I then looked more closely at the XMP and EXIF for the defective photos and discovered that the XMP lines for GPS data were "adjacent" in the correctly geotagged photos, but mixed up for the bad ones. So, I guess something (PSE8 ?) is writing incorrect XMP or EXIF or XMP and EXIF fields back to what were good photos ?
I tried this experiment again by writing IPTC location data into a photo using Geosetter/ www.Geonames. After saving, the the Geotagged data showed correctly !
I can't see any reason why it targetted 40 and not all of the 60 photos.
So, I don't think it is to do with Autoanalyzer. Does anyone have any ideas ? Does anyone from Adobe's PSE people read this ?
Now the annoyed bit - Deleted !
I would like to thank John Ellis for his help. But, he doesn't work for the company that made the software I bought, ADOBE do.
When can we expect v2 of PSE8, then I might have another go !
    Steve

  • How can I get my photos to save the GPS location for iPhoto?

I noticed that the info on my photos uploaded from my iphone 3G is not marking their location on the map. How can I activate this feature so the GPS location of the photos taken is saved to each photo's info in iPhoto after I upload it? Thanks!

Im not exactly sure what you mean by color profile..can you specify? So i have a dslr canon and take great portraits and tune them to exactly how I want them to look, they dont print at all like the colors presented on my screen. If i antique them then they print yellowish. Ive even tried printing them at walgreens because i thought it was my new printer. Hp hasnt let me doown til now. Is ot a printer setting? Ive never had this kind of printing issue.

  • Is it possible to have a blackberry return GPS location on a browser response?

A common scenario is when blackberry accesses a server somewhere which in turn sends a form in return with the expectation the user will fill in one or more fields and press OK.  Does the blackberry have program code (apps, java code snippets, etc) that can attach the GPS location data to the form data going back to the server? If this is possible, I'll look into writing a small application, if someone has not already done so.
    Thanks for your interest.

    Yes, use Option-Return

  • New Iphone baseband firmware has killed all GPS location software.

Are apple aware that the new iphone modem firmware update has effectively broken the iphone 3gs as far as GPS location goes. I have looked around on various forums and on the tomtom forum there are lots of people in the same situation.
    http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-iphone-navigator/22273-ios4-1-4-upgrade-no-gp s-fix-iphone-3g.html
I have not seen evidence of apple acknowledging the issue...so dont know if they are even aware of the problem.

I'm getting very interested in GPS problems across the iPhone range. Ive got a 3GS and the GPS satellite fix stopped working completely recently. A fix identified using jailbreak and an ssh terminal tells me a good proportion of these problems are with locationd, the gps process in the iPhone, or more accurately, I think that it's possible for some of the data this process uses to become corrupted; the "fix" involves stopping the process and deleting the data it uses. On restart, locations is forced to rebuild the data, and everything then works.
I suspect this is true across the iPhone range - and worse, I think that the backup function in iTunes actually backs up the bad data. Thus, when you restore from backup, you actually put the problem back in! Either that, or GPS cache data isnt deleted when the iphone is restored.
What we need is an option in iTunes, or the iPhone settings, to clear GPS ephemeris and related data down and restart locationd: this will save apple a fortune in support at genius bars, as I reckon everyone who is getting a replacement is just getting a reblanked refurbished iPhone with no hardware fixes - they could be turning them around in the back of the stores!
We need to get some group pressure together to get an answer out of apple on this really - they do seem to have an approach which has much in common with the way the UK banks were dealing with overdraft fees - if you complained, they refunded just to keep you quiet and make sure you didn't shout. If this issue is an underlying gps driver or application demon issue, they should give us a way to work around the issue.

  • Map screen: assign the same GPS location to a "sparse" group of pictures

Let's say a have a buch of photos that have beeen taken at the same spot at different times. The pictures are scattered across the fimstrip and might even belong to different collections in the same catalog (or even different catalogs?). What is the best way to assign the same GPS coordinates to all these pictures using Map screen?
Of course, the direct way to do that is to carefully select all these photos in the filmstrip and then click the desired location on the map. This is problematic for more reasons than one. Firstly, it is difficult to scroll through the entire strip and pick out the pictures one by one. Secondly, if I acccidentally miss one or two pictures, I have to start all over again.
The better way would be some sort of copy-paste appproach: copy the desired location into the clipboard (from another image or straight from the map) and then paste it over the desired images one by one or, better, over groups of images. One feature that at first looks promising in this regard is the text entry field on the right that contains the GPS coordinates in text form. It is editable, meaning that I can copy the coordinates (in text form) from one image and paste it into the same field of another image. However, this unfortunately does not guarantee that the images will end up with identical locations: the image that received new coordinates might (and will) end up with a slightly different location on the map that the "donor" image. This means that the coordinates are stored internally with better precision than their representation in that text entry field.
So, what are the other options?

You could also do this copying of GPS location to whatever photos you want using non-Lightroom (freeware) tools such as GeoSetter or ExifTool. This makes the issue of precision go away, and of course those tools can copy the GPS location to any photo you have, regardless of what Lightroom catalog it is in.
So, you'd have to use LR to write the metadata to the photos, then use non-Lightroom tools to copy the GPS location, then back in Lightroom read the metadata.

  • IPhone/iPad started showing wrong gps location in home

    Hello,
My wife and I have iPhone 5's and an iPad 2(wifi). All using the latest iOS. Because we don't get a strong signal in our house we have the AT&T 3G microcell to provide cell reception in house. Our broadband internet is through Comcast. We've been at this house for several years.
Everything, Apple-wise, has worked fine, then about 4 weeks ago I noticed that Apple maps, google maps, and all apps utilizing gps started showing my location in our house to be in Tallahassee FL. I live in Vero Beach, FL about 350 miles away. Both iPhones and the iPad show the exact same (address) location. If I leave our house, the location service work accurately on all devices so I know they aren't malfunctioning.
I've reset all devices, reset location services and network settings on all devices to no avail. I've even registered the mac address of our router (netgear) with Skyhook wireless thinking it would propagate back.
I've spoken to both AT&T and Comcast to no avail. Since the iPad (wifi only) is showing the same location, I don't think this relates to the 3g Microcell (it does have a gps for 911 purposes and I have reentered our correct phy. location to make sure).
Since we both have iPhones I don't know why Apple's wifi hotspot isn't updating or why it even changed to begin with.
After resetting everything-ios devices, 3g microcell, router, modem and computers- I'm baffled how to solve this.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most of these posts are older, but the problem is the same. My GPS locator is about 600 feet off from my actual location. This is on my iPad Gen 3. The comments are varied and I'm not sure they apply. Chris says the server can be throwing the GPS off. I have a Verizon My-Fi Hotspot, so it is actually right with me and the iPad. Is this different than having a 4G built into the iPad? Apple did not think so.
Also, I have closed and reopened the app several times and the location is always off - even though it varies from about 225 feet to 650 feet and all have been outside in the open. Most of the time, my home location is off by 600+ feet and I have not tried the GPS downtown or in other locations.
Please note that I am not a novice to the use of a GPS. I have used them for years in hunting and traveling. This is, however, my first use with an iPad.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

  • Glitch with "No GPS Location" Filter Lr4B

One of the things I am looking forward to is going back and fixing up the geotags on my photo collectio -- the obvious way is to select the photos lacking a GeoTag and work through them as best one may, with a never-export location for those photos which should not be tagged.
I read in a block of photos into Lr4B and tried this.  as you will see the filter reports 5550 images which should be displayed, but the library module says no photos match the filter.  All the other search boxes are set to 'all'
Selecting "GPS Location" does display as expected.

Yes, it would, but there aren't many people who have the power to do that. I'm not one of them.
We try to keep that thread bumped to the top, but if there's a lot of traffic, it slips down quickly to a position where it is for all intents, invisible.

  • GPS Location is not shown in Ovi Share

I upload photos with my Nokia N78 to share.ovi and for some I am sure, that they contain the GPS location. But share.ovi does not show it and I have to add it manually.
It hasn´t worked for any photos, that I have uploaded, yet, although I turned on the GPS Info in the N78 camera settings and if i go to image details, I see the GPS infos.

4.3.3 is the complete basic tool suite. What you downloaded was a .dmg file...double click on that to open and mount. If it's an installer, run it. If it's Xcode the application, drag it into your /Applications folder and run it from there. Unmount the .dmg when done.
You can then download components such as debugging support for another version iOS and documents.
I would suggest you start with the latest tools. You'll go blind trying to straddle fossilized tools and SDKs and anything you learn will be at high risk of being obsolete to get into the store and support things today. • I moved my iphoto folder to a new location by mistake. I've moved it back to its original location, but iphoto no longer sees the photos. What step(s) am I missing to return to the setup I had.

i moved the folder containing all of my photos to a new location on my hard drive by mistake. I've moved it back to its original location, but iphoto no longer sees the photos. What step(s) am I missing to allow iphoto to see the photos as it did before. Also,
I am trying to back up all of my photos to a thumb drive. Is there a way to do this thru iphoto?

Witholut knowing what you did, it's hard to know what you missed doing, no?
Try Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Backing up just the Photos? File ->Export
    Backing up the Library?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • How can I add location to a photo that does not have a gps location? On iPhoto it was easy.

how can I add location to a photo that does not have a gps location? On iPhoto it was easy.

You can use the Settings in the slideshow to Show Captions,  either the Description filed be display, the Title field or both.
If you create the slideshow in iDVD from still photos from iPhoto you can add the Description and/or Title via the settings in iDVD.
Since iDVD adds both automatically the user must go thru the slideshow and remove those items not wanted.

  • GPS location doesn't work properly after shift WIFI device to new office

GPS worked well before my office moves to new location. This month, WIFI and other network devices were moved to a new location because of office relocation, but GPS location on google maps and other apps still display as before, even I turn off the WIFI. Only if I go out the office, the GPS works properly.

Means that the office is so heavily shielded that GPS signals are not getting in AND the WiFi access points are not in Apple's database. Do you have cellular data enabled? That's a third way these phones try to guesstimate position based on celltower signal strength.
But if you're in a high security facility, none of the above will work. That would be the way it is designed.

  • Get GPS location from the command line

Is there a utility to get the current GPS location from the command line?  A quick search says `geo` will do it, but that appears to come with the android dev tools, which I'd rather not install right now.  The reason I want to do this is to avoid hard-coding my coordinates in a call to `redshift`.

    enduser wrote:
    Hmm.. `gpspipe` gives me:
gpspipe: could not connect to gpsd localhost:2947, Unknown error -6(-6)
    And `gpsd` gives me:
gpsd:ERROR: can't run with neither control socket nor devices
Do I need to be root for these applications? Alternatively, could I maybe just grab the timezone from /etc/localtime and use that? (though I guess that doesn't get close enough on longitude...)
You have to start gpsd from systemctl.  And you can plug/unplug gps devices at will, so it can be enabled in systemctl whether or not an actual gps is always available.

  • Saving palette location

I've searched for the answer, but can't find it. Perhaps I'm not using the correct terms.
I've got a dual monitor setup now, and am using the second screen to store all of my palettes while I use the main screen to work in the canvas. This is a great setup but every time I exit and restart the palettes start back in their default locations. It only takes a minute to get everything the way I want, but still...
I checked through the preferences and couldn't really find anything that helps. Is what I want to do possible?

Ah, I didn't even look in the Windows menu. Thanks!
