Backing up selected Schemas

DB version:10gR2
Is it possible to backup just selected few schemas using RMAN.

No. Such a task is done by exp or expdp. The smallest unit you can backup is a datafile.

Back to selection screen after error

Hello ABAPers,
I have a executable program (REPORT) to do some processing (e.g. read a standard table with the parameters and select-options and save the data in a Z table).
When occurs an error (e.g. when sy-subrc <> 0 after select) and a message of type E is showed, the program show the message in a "clean" screen with title SAP. Then, after ENTER or ESC, it leaves to initial screen of SAP (SAP Easy Access).
The message of type E is triggered from a routine (FORM) called from START-OF-SELECTION event. And the program don´t write nothing in list (only return a status message if everithing is ok).
How can I force the program to back to selection screen after some error?

Do the following for your requirement.
in the message give the following
start-of-selection.
Perform <routine>.
Form <routine>.
if <condition>.
message 'xxxx' type 'S' display like 'E'.
exit.
endif.
endform.
This way the control returns to selection screen even after the message is triggered.

Ho to back on selection screen using BACK button

Salute.
I have a program which contains 3 screens:
1st -- selection screen.
2nd -- my screen, I called it 1002, When I press F8 button on I get on it. I am using cl_gui_alv_grid there with my own buttons. So when I press MY OWN the save button I get the 3d screen
3d -- my own screen with some labels (screen name 1001).
So when i press BACK button on the third screen I want to back on selection screen and skip second screen, but I can't, I think the problem is in the cl_gui_alv_grid because I use custom grid handler:

To go back to the First Screen (Selection Scree) use
LEAVE TO SCREEN 0. " This makes the Program to go back from where it had started
or Create a Tcode for your program

Going back to selection screen from Change mode in ALV.

Everything is working ok. But when I click on Back button,the screen goes first to the ALV display mode from edit mode, then user has to click one time more the back button to go to selection screen because the FM 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' is called once again when user clicks
on change button because I am making the EDIT flag = 'X' and then calling FM again.
Is there a way that when user clicks on Back button, he will directly go to Change Screen -> Selection screen instead of going to Change screen -> Display screen -> Selection screen

You must not call the FM 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' again to make it editable. Instead you can call the FM REUSE_ALV_GRID_LAYOUT_INFO_GET and REUSE_ALV_GRID_LAYOUT_INFO_SET to make your grid editable / non-editable.

In this example, when you SAVE, it will give you one Information message and than make the Layout to non-editable mode. When you press back button, it will get you back to selection screen.

Going back to selection screen from ALV

Hi there,
I have scenario: program -> selection screen -> ALV
In the 'BACK' button I have put: LEAVE TO SCREEN 0. It should go back to selection screen. But it does not and exits the program. I also tried to call the selection screen like CALL SELECTION-SCREEN 1000. But in this case if I hit BACK on selection screen, it goes back to previous screen, the ALV not the program. Can you please assist any other way to use the back button from
ALV -> Selection screen. Thanks.

Dataguard setup for selected schemas

Platform : Solaris 5.10
In our Production DB, we have some schemas which we do not want to be replicated at the standby site. Logical backup is enough for these schemas.
Instead of replicating the entire database, Is there a way we could set up dataguard in which the logs are shipped only for selected schemas?

With a Physical Standby Database , you always 'replicate' your whole Primary. With Logical Standby, though, you could exclude certain schemas from the 'replication'.
Another option would be - as already mentioned by others - to do a regular replication with Streams or Golden Gate and only replicate the schemas resp. objects that you deem important.
However, I would recommend that you review the requirement to exclude 'unimportant' schemas from your Standby Database. It makes the whole setup more complicated than necessary.
Just go with Physical Standby and ignore those schemas - why bother?

IMPORTANT - This will reformat your Seagate drive and hence wipe it. If there is anything on your Seagate drive you want to keep, save it somewhere else FIRST.
Plug the drive in.
In Finder select Applications > Utilities > Disc Utilities.
Select the external drive, select Partition option, give it a name (I call mine Mac Backup), select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format and under the drop down menu "Partition Layout" select the number of partitions you want (so if you want the drive to just be for Time Machine, select 1 Partition, if you want part of the drive to be for Time Machine and the rest for something else, select 2 partitions and so on). Click apply and the Disc Utility will partition and reformat your drive ready to use.
When this is complete, open Time Machine in System Preferences. Use Select Disc to select the drive (or if you have multiple partitions, the partition of the drive) you want and you are good to go.
This may be a long way round, but it gives you the option to partition your disc which you may want.

And Intel does have their hands full getting laptops using Haswell, and Apple has its hands full with getting better wifi
Most of that is aimed at consumers, not Mac Pro but at MacBook Pro and Air. And the Air is getting new fast SSD on PCIe - I expect that will be found throughout product line.

Select schemas from relational model on import from data dictionary option

Hi All,
I have one relational model with 3 diferent schemas,
I want to compare one of my schemas with the data dictionary I have in a database,
I select the import option in the general file menu, select from data dictionary option,
select the connection from my database,swap target model checked,select a physical model and select the objects i want to compare from the database,
My problem is that the result is the comparison between all the objects in my model and the objects in the database that I have selected,
what I really want is to compare a list of objects in my model to a list of objects in my database,
this could be possible? or always need to compare all the objects of the model?

Hi jbellver,
there is no any development in DM 3.1.0.691 on that problem. In production release you'll be able to compare objects in subview with database or just to select several objects and compare them with database. And of course "generate in DDl" filtering still can be used - it works at "Compare dialog" level.

Creating a Display View and passing back the selected items

Hello All,
I will like to create the below scenario and will like to seek feedbacks and suggestions on how to do so in the best way.
Scenario
1) User enters his lastname and press a submit button (this is done in the initial window which contains UI elements that needes to be populated with the search results),
2) The submited name is passed to the backend for searching,
3) Results is then thrown back to the user in ANOTHER window in the form of a selection table. Here, the window will display a list of all matching lastnames.(Even if there is only 1 search result)
4) User is required to select his own last name from the table and his info will be populated in the respective UI elements in the view of the initial window.
Feedbacks and suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thnak you very much.

Define 2 views, "Search" and "Result", define a custom controller (or use the component controller) with a context containing all relevant data (entered name, result list). Define a controller usage from both view controllers to the custom controller, map both view contexts to the custom controller context.
This will allow both view controllers to access the data entered in "Search" and the results from the backend displayed in "Result".
For the navigation between "Search" and "Result", use the navigation modeller to define plugs and navigation links. In the event handler of the "search" action, navigate to the "Result" view, in the event handler of the result selection (e.g. a handler for IWDTable.onLeadSelect), navigate back to the "Search" view.

Backing up selected files onto an external hard drive

Hi,
I have partitioned an external hard drive in order to use it for both Time Machine as well as selected files. Is there a way to move over all data/documents/libraries as a whole rather than document by document? I thought that if you clicked on the user in the side bar, and dragged it onto the hard drive that would back up everything, but I can't seem to do that. I am beginning to use a new MBP and I want to only bring over select files and leave the rest on the external hard drive.

Time Machine is a pretty sophisticated backup system - it will start by backing up your whole computer, and then it will do what is called an "incremental" backup every hour or so. That incremental backup will take a copy of every file that has changed since it previously backed up. So it will be fairly efficient with space usage, and it will allow you to recover files at many different points if you have a problem - for instance, you will be able to restore a document from earlier that day, from the day before, or even further back if it existed then.
Apart from an offsite backup, I rely on TimeMachine for all my backups, because the big advantage is that it works in the background and backs up often. The approach you seem to be considering is entirely manual, and therefore likely to be much less often.
You can definitely restore individual files with Time Machine. It has the benefit that you can also restore an entire computer if you need to, but that is not the only thing it does. You may wish to browse Pondini's excellent Time Machine website to acquaint yourself more with its features.

In answer to your question, yes, your important files are generally in your home folder. However, if you only back up the home folder, and your MBP has a disk failure, you will have to reinstall it from scratch, add all your applications, download all the updates again, and then copy in files from your backup. There may be issues associated with preference files and application versions, because you will be copying back preference files from your home folder but possibly installing later versions of applications. If you already have the disk available, I don't recommend this approach. I don't understand why the Genius Bar has put you off but then I am not privy to the whole conversation.

HT1560 If diagnostics says appletv is working properly, why does the install keep getting stuck on pairing with the computer then back to select resolution over and over.

First gen Appletv suddenly stopped working from one night to the next. This has happened in the past once and the usual restore, reboot, etc, tinkering finally snapped it back into working quite unexpectadly. The symptom is, after restore when it gets to the screen to pair with itunes by entering the numbers in itunes, the number is briefly up on the tv screen and then quickly is gone returning to the select resolution page. This happens over and over with each try while the Appletv never shows up in itunes and the number box never appears either to pair the computer with the Appletv. It does the same thing with my intel macbook so I don't think it's the Imac. I have dumped itunes 10 and reloaded itunes 9 with no change in the problem. My IP scanner picks up that the Appletv is on our network as soon as it turns on. I have used wireless, which it finds and logs into, and ethernet which also has it finding my network. I can't test whether it is actually on the network by trying to play a trailer or something because it will not go past that pairing screen in the initial setup. Are the built in diagnostics reliable when they say your appletv is working correctly. The hard drive isn't making any exceptionally loud noise as it spins up. I am stuck with this unit because I use it with a G4 Imac running Tiger 10.4 for a video/audio jukebox at the bar. New ATV won't work with the Imac unless it's running leopard I believe. The thing runs like molasses already so attempting leopard which I don't have anyway would really make it crawl. I love a good mystery/problem but this thing is driving me crazy. If I just could know for sure what component inside was shot I would replace it. Could a hard drive boot up to a degree and then get stuck at one part of the install, or would it have to be the logic board, or something else. Bad juju in the house or something

Message said repairing estimated time 1minute, yeah okay we all know how accurate those are process took about 5 minutes with nothing showing then all of a sudden printer permission repaired notations were flying onto screen in actions box. Do restart for heck of it sign on and so far no message has apeared where it did regularly. I hope this is indeed the fix. In meantime it never hurts to fix permissions so give it a try.

Multiple computers backed up - selective restore

I have a 15" MacBook Pro and a 17" MacBook Pro both backed up to my Time Capsule. I was having problems with the 17" MacBook Pro and swapped it for a brand new one. I'd like to be able to restore SELECTED files from the 17" backup but I can't work out how to connect to the backup using Time Machine.
I've tried using the Migration Assistant but it didn't restore the folder that I wanted which is in the root of the home folder (at the same level as Desktop, Documents etc).
Any help would be appreciated.

Select schema via cursor

I am working with a database in which all schemas have the same tables. I am trying to write a PL/SQL routine that will loop through each schema, query a table in that schema, and insert that data into a master table (simplified explanation). I can get a cursor that contains all the schemas, but I can't figure out how to set the schema name from a cursor.

I'm using Oracle version 8.1.6 now, so I can't tell if this will work in Oracle version 7.3.4 or not, but I think I remember using something similar in Oracle version 8.0.5. Please try the code below and let us know if it works for you or not.
Also, posting on this forum causes spaces to be added between concatenation symbols where they don't belong, so anywhere you see a space between | and |, remove the space, before running the code.
Any time that you are using some sort of variable to represent a schema name or table name or column name at run time, you have to use some sort of dynamic sql. Execute immediate is a new type of dynamic sql. DBMS_SQL is an older method.
