Backing up Solaris 2.7 Operating System

Hi,
Would anyone be able to take me through the process of backing up the operating system under solaris 2.7. I have recently installed the software onto Sparc 10 boxes and would like to back up the O/S before i
proceed with any product installation. Please can you help! From the documentation i have been able to get it just describes how to backup file systems and directories using the ufsdump command. Is there
specific syntax with this command which will allow you to backup the whole operating system.
Cheers,
Martin

Try to boot from a CDrom using boot cdrom -s,
once on single user you can dump all your system into a tape using ufsdump

  • Solaris 10 dual Operating system

I have computer has windows operating system, and I want to install Solaris on one of partition,
I don't have only one hardisk.
any one can please help me about that
    thanks,

I can't recommend this strongly enough: get a removable hard drive tray that fits in any 5-1/4" bay. You then can put a different hard drive in each tray and cold swap them whenever you want to change operating systems. It will add at most 10 seconds to the process of rebooting and allows your operating system to be on completely independent drives.
Want to boot Solaris? Shut down, slide out the Windows drive, slide in the Solaris drive, power on.
Want to reinstall the operating system? Just go ahead. The boot drive is its own, so there's no need to worry about the "other" partition.
A kit to do this (assuming that you have two available boot drives) costs about $40 total (one bay and two drive trays) depending on the brand and it eliminates the need for a partition manager entirely. I have this on three of my PCs and it's a god-send for running multiple operating systems, or even multple instances of the same operating system.

  • Can I revert back after upgrading to Mavericks operating system? Can't get my Adobe software to run properly.

Can I revert back to a previous operating system after upgrading to Mavericks? Since installing Mavericks I can't get my Adobe software to run properly.

Thanks, for your replies. I've got a late 2012 iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5). I was previously running Snow Leopard - Not sure exactly what version but it was right up to date.
The Adobe software I'm using is the Creative Cloud. Specifically InDesign cc. Whenever I try to browse folders through the InDesign software the browser window closes before I can do what I need to do. So I cant place images into my InDesign document or save documents properly.
On the Adobe website it says that they worked with apple to fix any bugs before the Mavericks release but there's lots of complaints on the forums. I've left a bug notification with Adobe but I don't expect that they will be offering any solutions or software updates any time soon.
I really just want to revert back without too much trouble.

  • How do I get my playlists back after changing computers and operating systems?

Bought a new computer and got upgraded 64 bit OS.  Used PC Mover to move everything from old PC to new one.  Itunes did not come with it.  Went into Itunes to download 64 bit version and after several iterations of problems with getting the right version, seemed to work and I could see many of my songs in the window when downloading.
However, when I finally got to Itunes, it opens but no playlists are visible.  Authorized computer.  Followed some websites that said take an old playlist and copy it over to Itunes folder by renaming 'itl' library from new to old and back again. Still doesn't work.
    Help.
    Ben.

not sure i get this.  how do i create new ones?  if i sync my ipod, will i also lose all the songs i have on it?
what about audiobooks stuff...is that gone also?

Consider if you have solo or duo, and how 10.6 caused a lot of people to scream "this thing runs slower, uses more memory" and if you want to or need Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is what I assume you mean. Apple doesn't probably have anything official other than previews and WWDC.

  • How do I restore my operating system from Snow Leopard back to Mountain Lion on line after erasing my hard drive?

I had to erase my hard drive.  I loaded Snow Leopard with the disk I got with my computer, but I purchased Mountain Lion several months ago and don't have support any longer.  How do I get back to the Mountain Lion operating system, on line?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
You must perform the last step - updating to 10.6.8. Until then you have no access to the App Store. When you can sign into the App Store using the same Apple ID with which your purchased Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. Locate your Mountain Lion purchase line then click on the Install button on the right to re-download.

I basically have an Ada executable and Labview executable that currently run on a Sun Machine with Solaris as the operating system.  I'm re-architecting the system hardware and will be getting rid of the Sun Machine and Solaris.  I'm don't have any issues with the Ada executable, but I'm not sure what configurations Labview supports.

  • Do i need any of the operating system disks if I clean install?

My MAcbook pro is getting serously slow esp on the internet. So from what I understand the best method is a clean install.
However I do not have any of the previous operating system disks like Snow leopard and Lion. I am currently using Mavericks.
My worry is that the computer will go back to it's original operating system (i think Tiger), and I will not be able to update to MAvericks because I don't have any of the operatings disks before that.
Or maybe I don't need them? I have backed up everytjing on my computer and used time machine as a back up.
    Thanks in advance,
    L

Did you do an Over the Top install? That is where you reinstall right over OS X that is already on your system.
If you did and it ran fine for a day or so I suspect you are having some hard drive troubles. With an over the top install that replaces system files, OS X files, and makes them fresh. But if after a short while the system starts to run poorly again that comes from some corruption of those files. That only happens when there is drive problems.
If after doing a real clean install, first erasing everything off your system with Disk Utility, you still are having slow downs first thing I'd do is check out the drive for errors and personally I'd replace the drive.

You cannot upgrade Solaris (any version) by simply applying patches. You also cannot upgrade Solaris 10 via any sort of downloaded "upgrade" package.
You will need to download the current DVD/CD set, then boot from it. At that point, you will be offered the choice of upgrading your system.
