Backing Up/Syncing my iPod
Whenever I plug in my iPod and iTunes starts running, it attempts to backup the iPod before Syncing. These days, it always fails to backup. I get a message that "the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPod." and that I should "delete the backupo for this iPod and try again".
I have gone to Edit|Preferences|Device. I have, on one occasion, deleted the backup listed there. Since doing that, there is no backup listed.
I saw (on some Apple support page) that I should create a new account on my PC and try running iTunes from there. When I did that, iTunes offered to delete everything off my iPod (I declined) - but I was able to perform a backup.
When I returned to my normal PC account, iTunes again complained about the corrupt backup.
I notice that each account has a folder "Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" and that there is a folder in each of those Backup folders and that each has the same name. Presumably, the name is date related - I am sure that in the past, I have seen multiple files there.
Questions.
Should I be worried that the Backup fails?
If I copy the folder from one backup folder to the other, will it fix the problem?
Have you tried cut/pasting the backup folder somewhere else so that itunes has to re-create it? I had this on my iphone and my kids ipod and ipod touch however I had already deleted all the backups so there was none to be corrupt. What I found to be the culprit, for me mind you, was that the backup folder has a shared link icon it because I have my media folder located somwhere other than default because of the size of it. Once I delete this backup folder and did a sync itunes re-created it without the shared link symbol on it and it synced without giving me that corrupt message as it has for many months.

I tried to sync my iPod touch to a new MacPro laptop and it deleted all of my music and videos. I called tech support and they told me to email iTunes and they would give it back to me. How do I do this??
Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:

As I've already said to get this far: I have lost a lot of tracks while syncing my iPod Touch with iTunes. I have managed to get free downloads of some of the single tracks, but when I try to download entire albums the system informs me that I have already purchased them and a pop-up window informs me I can get them back from my "Purchased" file. I would not be trying to dowload them again if they were anywhere on the iPod, would I? The other problem seems to be that with single tracks I don't know before I hit the purchase button if I have picked it from the right album and I have had to pay for it again.
I feel that I have been totally ripped off by iTunes and, apart from ranting on this forum, I don't seem to be able to let my feelings known. It's like a guy from my local record store coming round and nicking my albums and telling me that it's tough!
The point here is folks, that it was syncing two Apple sites which caused the loss of these tracks and from what I've read elsewhere this is a regular fault. And please don't tell me that it's my fault for having a pc. Apple shouldn't sell a product for pc, when it doesn't work on pc!- Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
- Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck
If they are still available and listed in your Puchase History then contact iTunes

So, I looked at my iTunes library and realized that i had a rather small amount of music on it, while i have a rather large amount of music on my iPod. I don't know where all my music went on my computer, and I have no clue how it isn't there. When I sync my iPod it doesn't transfer my music back or even give me the, "We found some music on your iPod that is no longer in your library, would you like to transfer these songs?"
I don't really know what to do, andy advice?Never mind, the problem just fixed itself when i searched for an artist that wasn't there. That was odd.

My ipod is somehow synced to another library, because I plugged the charger to a wall. How can I sync my ipod shuffle back to the original Itunes library without erasing my current data in the Ipod shuffle?
",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium. -

When I upgraded the software on my ipod touch4, many podcasts were deleted from itunes. Of course, when I synced the ipod, they were deleted from the ipod as well. Apparently the current version of itunes will not let me go back to these earlier episodes (just a few months), in a podcast that I have been subscribed to, and re-download them. Is there a way to do that? and, how can I prevent this from happening again?
Hey! I had the same problem you did just today when I was trying to get my second iPhone to sync. What you need to do with music or anything extra that you doing you have to creat a second playlist or picture or anything that you would like to use, so that you can add to the second device that you are going to be using. I am not sure if that will help but it helped me out a lot!! Good luck!

when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer? Please help me and answer either or both question detailed thanks
Normally when you sync your device it is automatically backed up to your computer as the first step in the sync process. When you choose to start backing up your device to iCloud, iTunes stops automatically backing it up on your computer when you sync. That's what the message is telling your; that you are now backing up to iCloud and not to your computer each time you sync. You can still manually back up to your computer any time you want by going to the Summary tab and clicking on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.
You can still sync your device as you did before, it just will no longer back up automatically when you do. -
I deleted all my playlists provided. However, they are still on my Ipod Touch. Now, when I sync my Ipod with Itunes then the lists are copied back into Itunes?
A playlist takes up almost no room. A few kB at most.
It is simply a list of songs in the library
Do you want the playlists or not?
Now, when I sync my Ipod with Itunes then the lists are copied backinto iTunes?

My computer's hardrive went bad an I had to get a new one. Now my computer has nothing on it and I had to reinstall itunes and i have no music or anything. So now I cannot sync my ipod or anything. Is there anything i can do to get all of my stuff back?
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
