Backing up....syncing?

I need some help, please.
I'm returning a defective ipad and I will have to restore from a back up and I think I would prefer to back up from itunes because the last time I backed up from icloud it took more than 24 hours.
I just synced to itunes at about 10:50pm Saturday April 28. This is confirmed when I checked ipad settings-general. However when I checked on my computer in itunes-edit-device it said that my last back up was March 31, 2012.
1. My question is this why didn't the last sync (and all the many times I synced) to my pc register in itunes as a backup?
2. How then do I back up? I do not want to lose precious information when I back up. This happened to me before.

It is likely because you are still backing up to the cloud. Turn off backup/sync to the cloud on your iPad. And then change the setting in iTunes on your computer, so that the sync is to iTunes, not the cloud. Then sync to iTunes and your backup should be stored in iTunes not the cloud.

Pictures are not stored in iTunes.
Any pictures taken with the device, like with any other digital camera, are designd to be copied off the device to the computer on a regular basis. Via iTunes, pictures that the user chooses to have on the device can be synced back.
As Ralph stated, updating iTunes will not affect the media in the library. That being said, it has always been very basic to maintain a backup of important files. If you do not currently have a backup of your important files, I would strongly encourage you to make one.

I have a iphone 4s with ios 8.3 and I used to be able to sync only a week or two of emails from outlook email. Now it won't let me do that and it syncs all my inbox. How can I change it back to sync less. I can't find the right place.

I understand, as that was the place I would change it before 8.3 but now that option of Mail Days to Sync is not available? Any idea why that would be?

How to back up/sync two phones on one PC?

Aloha, This is my first post on this forum, so if I'm on the wrong board or if this has been discussed, I apologize.
About two months ago, I purchased two iPhone 3GS's (for my wife's and my use). I have been able to sync the phones individually on two different pc's, but am unable to figure out how to sync both on my desk machine (for back up/speed purposes). I can find lots of articles and instructions on how to sync one phone on multiple machines, but am unable to find info on how to do two phones on one computer.
Basically, I am unable to get the iTunes software to back up/sync the music collection on her phone--it says that all will be deleted in favor of the library (that is associated with my phone). I have tried logging in the iTunes software with her iTunes acct info, but I still get the same response.
Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. For the record, our phones are both current (iPhone OS v. 3.1 [not 3.0.1]) and iTunes is v. 9.0.0.70--which according to the upgrade blurb said it has better multiple phone capabilities. (It looks and acts the same to me--so obviously, I'm not doing something right!) TIA.

You cannot take itunes content from the iphone and put it on the computer. The iphone sync is one way. It is designed to sync with a computer, not as a stand alone device.]
The exception to this rule is itunes purchased content as described in an earlier post.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. The iphone is designed to reflect the content of the computer/library that it syncs with, not the other way around.
You need to copy everything to the new computer, then sync. When you sync to a different computer, it will erase itunes content from the iphone first, then sync to the new itunes library/computer.

You don't "authorize" computers for iphone. You authorize computers to play protected itunes content on the computer.
Again, iphone will sync itunes content and pics with ONE computer at a time. This is the way it has been and continues to be.
Ipods are different, but the iphone will sync with ONE computer at a time.
As far as itunes content and pics go - the iphone mirrors the computer, not the other way around.

How do I transfer game apps from one IPAD 2 to another without losing points or awards? I have backed up, sync and restored, nothing is working...I have to start over and lose the awards I paid for?

My first IPAD 2 wireless failed, so a second IPAD 2 was sent to me. I have game apps that aren't transfering at the levels I have achieved. Is there a way I can keep the game app levels where I am? ie, Planet fish< solitaire, Sudoku, bejeweled 2, shazam-(has saved my content)...so why has some of these not saved my content? Or is there something other than back up, syncing and restoring that will save what I have accomplished so far?

Assuming that the Library is intact, then simply drag the back up to your internal HD - put it on the desktop and open it, to make sure all is well:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point it at the Library on the desktop.
If it is, trash the one in your Pictures Folder and put the restored one in its place.

I downloaded ICloud yesterday and it has been backing up/syncing for the past 18 hours. Is this normal? Should I stop the back up and try to re-sync or just let it keep going. I use the 3G network (WiFi) with Verizon

I downloaded ICloud and IOS5 yesterday afternoon and it has been backing up/syncing to IPAD since 7:30 PM (over 18 hours). Is this usual or is there a problem with what it is doing. Should I stop the backup and start over or just let it keep going? I have WiFi, 3G through Verizon and it is rather slow. I am afraid that it might be using up all my available data allowance and is going to create a huge phone bill. Can anyone advise me as to what I should do? Has anyone had this problem before? You are downloading the update to iOS 5 and that would have to be done within iTunes on your computer using a WiFi network. The 3G service on the iPad is not being used for this or are you downloading some way that I've never heard of?
There is no way that it should take 18 hours so something has gone wrong. What stage are you stuck at? What does the iTunes progress bar indicate?

Back-up/sync Stopped Working In Elements 9

After upgrading from Elements 8 to Elements 9 due to Back-up/Sync problems I am now having similar problems.
Elements tells me that everything is in sync even though I just loaded 250+ new photos. When I try to force a synch the process starts, looks for changes and comes back and tells me everything is in sync.
When open my Back-up/Sync preferences, it tries to open and then comes back with a messages telling me there was an error loading my preferences and that I should close the preferences dialog box and try again. Trying again does nothing, closing elements does nothing, rebooting my PC does nothing.
I had the same problem last week and because I learned about this problem in version 8 I was able to work around it by closing elements, renaming the sysnc DB, reopening elements, trying to backup/sync, closing elements again, renaming the original sysnc DB back to its original name and reopening elements.
Since the above is much to much effort to have to undertake to solve this reoccuring problem I need help solving the underlying problem.
I look forward to hear from someone who can help.

Asking exactly the same question a second time will NOT get you a different answer.
You can not recover that which has been deleted and was never backed up.

Organizer back up/sync

I want to back up/sync my elements 10 organizer. Command comes up to sign in. When I attempt to sign in it gets stuck.
I am able to sign into the adobe web site but when I try to back up and sync it doesn't recognize this. What can I do to fix this.

After i erased whole data from the ipod touch 3rd gen. when i put back to sync it. it says in the windows connect to itunes, which i did,i also installed new itunes but still it doesnt recognise . pls help me if u have gone thru same trouble like me.

I can't find anything that tells how to get my saved passwords and open tabs back after syncing.

I had to have my work computer restaged. I synced my FF before I turned my computer over to tech services. When I got my computer back and downloaded FF, I signed back into sync. But my saved passwords are not showing. I have all of the items listed in the sync menu checked (passwords, open tabs, bookmarks, etc). I finally fumbled around and got my bookmarks back and I am not as concerned with my open tabs as I am with my passwords. Thanks!

Video/Audio out of sync / stutters at start and then jumps back into sync.

Everything appears fine in the Simulator and when played in the computer. However I have noticed on 2 different DVD Players that when the video starts the audio is out of sync for about the first 20 sec or so and then slides back into sync for the remainder. Seems to sort of lag.
I am exporting NTSC videos out of FCP and encoding via Compressor. I am using the Compressor presets (usually 120 min Fastest Encode).
Anyone see this before?

Fixed. There was 5 sec video clip that plays before the main video in the track. However, the 5 sec clip was video only, not audio, and was as a .mov as opposed to mpeg2. Anyways I encoded the 5sec clip in mpeg2/AAC and added it before the main clips and everything works. Still don't know WHY it happened and why it stuttered, any ideas? Don't think it was the lack of black at the start as i didn't add any.

Stuck at "Backing up" sync stage for hours and hours.

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I tried syncing a 3rd gen iPod touch running iOS 5, an iPhone 3GS running 4.something, and iPhone 4 w/ 5.1.
When I plug in the items they all get stuck at the "backing up" sync stage, or step 2, (its always 2 of__).
I am running Windows 7 and running iTunes 10.5.1.42
Things I have done to try to get it to work:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.
Rebooting the computer.
Totally reset the iPhone 3GS so that there were no media/new apps/ pics. Was told to do this to speed up the process.
"X"ing out this step. Tried clicking on the little "x" next to "step 2" , was told it would discontinue that specific step and move on to the next process.
Letting it sit for 8 hours
This started about 4 days ago, never had a problem with any of these products before.
All of these did nothing.

Hey.
So I figured it out and just wanted to share the solution in case there is anyone else out there having the same issue.
The moment I plugged in my device iTunes begins to back it up before the syncing begins.
What you have to do is keep your Task Manager open.
When it starts to back up the process AppleMobileBackup.exe*32 will begin. You should immediately end that process, this will speed things up considerably. iTunes will also pop open a window telling you that your backup has failed. This is OK, and obviously expected.
If you do want to actually backup your device then I would reccomend syncing it a few times while ending the back up process, and then syncing it again while allowing the process. I do not know why, but this gets the back up process running much smoother and doesn't take up as much CPU.
In general I would also reccomend closing the "Apple Push"process. This too seems to be taking up alot of CPU.
You will have to shut off the backup process from the task manager every single time you sync your device. Even in the same sitting, if you just added a bit more media, once you press sync the backup process will begin again, so be aware of that.
