Backing up TV Shows on a dvd

Recently I purchased the 2008 World Series and Playoff games. With all the games I have purchased, can I back the protected mpeg-4 video files to a disc so I can save my hard drive space on my computer?

I have been searching for information on TV shows because I just downloaded an entire season, but the video won't work. Anyway, in my searching, I saw that the iTunes Help Topic about purchasing TV shows says at the very end that you cannot burn purchased videos to DVD.

  • Backing up TV shows on to DVD

I want to backup one tv show season on to a DVD to free up space on my hard drive. I tried the "Back up to disc" method but it only gives me three options, none of which I want. Back up entire library/back up purchased library... I just want to back up one season.
So then I burned a test episode the same way I burn a music CD. It burned sucessfully. Only when I went to reimport it from the DVD back into itunes, there was no import option after I stuck the DVD into my drive.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

iTunes will not burn DVDs. One option would be to just burn as a data disk (outside of iTunes.) From Finder, create a new Burn Folder, and then copy the files from your iTunes folder to the new Burn Folder.
Burn the disk. When re-importing; don't try and reimport straight from disk to iTunes, but just drag the files from the disk onto hard drive, and then you can either put back in the iTunes folder (if not already there.)
If you want to remove from your hard drive, I would test it, before I deleted.

  • Is it possible to record a TV show onto a DVD Rewriteable, or DVD R?

You can connect almost any type of recording device to a Comcast box and play back or watch live in real time using the analog video outputs on the back of the Comcast box.
As an example if the subscriber owned a stand alone DVD recorder, connect to the DVR or cable box with composite yellow video and red / white for audio to the video input on the recorder, and match the colors to the rear panel on the DVR.  Setup the recorder to record from the video input and place the DVR in play.  You can choose any type of blank DVD disk that would work in that recorder.
Same if you wanted to record to a computer, you would need a capture card and proper recording software on the computer to record from that composite video cable.

Is it possible to record a TV show onto a DVD Rewriteable?  I would think that DVDs are now like VHS tapes.  Can we use our own DVD Recorders, or must we have the show recorded by Xfinity/Comcast? Is there a certain type of DVDs we need to use maybe, like R+ or R- , or a certain brand of DVDs that are made?

  • Backing up just my videos to DVD?

Can anybody recommend the most convenient way of backing up just my videos to DVD? I don't tend to rewatch TV shows I've downloaded, but some I'd like to hold on to because they are complete series, like Jericho.
I don't want to go through the whole library backup right now. Is there a way of just selecting one series or "backup selected items" rather than the entire library (full or incremental) backup?
My external HD is also getting pretty full. I'd like to just remove stuff to DVD that I know I don't need much.
    Thanks,

    Mary,
Nowadays people don't back up to CD/DVD. They get an *external hard drive* and copy over their entire iTunes folder, and whatever else they are backing up.
The advantages are (1) this method does not depend on iTunes's horribly unreliable burning capability (2) you can look at the external and see that the stuff you backed up is really there. (If you want to see an unhappy person, it is when they try to restore from CD/DVD and discover that it did not burn correctly in the first place.) (3) it lets you back up your other valuable files besides your music.

  • Backing up TV Shows

Is there a way to back up TV shows so that you have them all on the same disc according to show? I want to be able to reload only certain shows or episodes without having to go through all 100+ discs to find the show I want to reload into the iTunes.
    Can I do this?

  • Copying recorded shows from one dvd to another new one

can recorded shows on a dvd be transferred to a new dvd, the x1 dvd?

    rwlangdon3231 wrote:
Can the recorded shows on a comcast VCR to transferred to another, newer comcast VCR which is taking the old VCR's place?
No, they can't be transfered from one Comcast DVR to another.  You will have to watch them, or play them back in real time to another recording device like a computer captuer card or a DVD recorder that you would purchase.

  • I started backing up my iTunes library on DVDs

I started to back up my iTunes library on DVDs some time ago but ran out of DVDs.  I now have a new supply in but I can't access the back up option under file/library - it doesn't appear at all.  All I get access to is organise library, export library, export list.  Could this be because I stopped half-way through?  Can anybody tell me how to continue with my back up please?  Thanks a lot.

No it's because they made a change in the way you back up your Library. I haven't been able to get an answer as to how we are suppose to do it in the 10.4 version. If anyone knows how please share the information as it is really getting frustrating.

    Hello there, Capricious13.
There are great pointers in the following Knowledge Base article. Depending on where you see the content and where you want to get it to, this should guide you to putting it in the right place:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

See if the iPad will accept the password after you restart it. It's worth a try.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You could also try a reset as well.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Is it not possible to move iTunes U files back into TV Shows???

I'm trying to clean up my iTunes Library, and hit a roadblock: I have some guitar training videos that were stored in TV Shows; I changed their data thru Media Kind to "iTunes U" to put them into iTunes U.  The change happened no problem, but when I use the same process to move them back to TV shows, they're not moving.  I used the same adjustment of changing Media Kind, so I'm not sure what the problem is.  Any ideas? I'm using the latest versions of iTunes and OS X.

    Hi, shorty.
That entirely depends on the copyright holders for the content. Apple does not own the content and can only distribute if the copyright holder allows it.
You should direct your interest in this to the appropriate content provider for the shows you want.
...and when it happens, and you have shows available that I enjoy and am unable to get, I will be really jealous

  • How to burn an iPhoto slide show to a DVD

is it possible to burn an iPhoto slide show to a dvd ?

    Sure:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/9.0/en/phtf677be44.html
I use the advanced settings and export in DV format, 640x480.
Save the exported slideshow in your "movies" folder.
Start up iDVD and you can see this slideshow in your media.

  • Burning an iPhoto slide show to a DVD

I have created a slideshow using iPhoto but don't know how to burn it on to a DVD. Can anyone explain how to do this? Thanks

AHH a fellow sufferer. I was pulling my hair out about this finally with help from my computer literate son and the apple genius bar figured how how to do this.
1.go to IDVD. Pick a theme (actually this is a menu and only shows when your dvd opens until you click a "my slideshow button on the menu page. Some music will also be playing. Ignore this for now) If you want one of your photos or more to show in the first opening panel, just go to media, There you will find all your iPhotos. PIck an album or event. PIck a simple theme like the lotus flower and your photo will override it totally.Drag one photo to the Theme box. You can limit how long the theme panel shows also by going to the little ion the left lower next to the + click and you will see various things that you can do like decrease loop time and eliminate "intro and outro"?? Can't give you any advice on this but I usually shorten the loop time.
2.Then go to the lower left "+" sign and it will let you drag in a slideshow you have made in iPhoto. If you note directly below the middle of the screen on the left there is a diagram, sort of an algorhythm. showing three squares. in the middle you will see two arrows indicating revolutions and on the right a dotted edge small box. Ignore these.(for now anyway).Go to your iPhotos shown under media (on the lower right there are buttons for Themes, buttons and media. Click on media and you will see all your iphotos under photos and all your iTunes under audio. Arrange the order of the photos and then Drag the photos you want onto the panel which says slideshow. Presto, there you are. If you have given titles to your photos they can be displayed and you can affect the type, etc. Double Click on the slideshow panel, you will see thumbnails with the .cmg or.jpeg annotations. Click on the Settings GEar and you will see the options to show titles. (The final option"duck audio.." can apparently lower audio(??)I didn't notice any difference
    3. On to Audio. go to the audio files select what you want to play and highlight it and drag it anywhere onto the slideshow/ You will know it is there by an ITunes speaker showing up in the lower panel YOu can hit transitions to chose how that works, does not have ken burns which I dislike because it truncates my photos. Select slideshow speed. 3 secs is too short with titles. Click return.
    4. you will be returned to the screen with the Theme box, the slideshow box on its right and a gray box on the left. for a start which will avoid the theme opener, drag the slideshow box over to the left box, you will now have two slideshow boxes. This usually avoids the theme screen entirely when your disc plays. Now you can preview and burn.
    5. You can also make an iPhoto slideshow complete with music, other formats transitions and music and save it as a Quicktime movie to your desktop. Then when you hit the "+" button on the left click on add movie and drag it from your desktop onto the little box next to the theme box (the same place you dragged your slideshow or photos)
    6. Finally the approved way per applestore genius bar, use iMovie. it will show up your iphotos in the media box. Drag them into the upper bar. There is also a media box, which has your iTunes. drag the ones you want onto the lower box. For more specific tunes for certain groups of photos you just drag the tunes under the photos, truncating the music as you wish with your cursor. You can also add titles under your photos but iMovie will not transfer the titles you may have given photos in iPhoto, so I did not use this method, already having gone to all the work of titling my iPHotos
After previewing, hit the burn button, it can take some time to set up, but if you burn several discs the repeat burn time is much shortened.
HOpe this helps, if yo have more questions I'd be happy to helpl if I can. forgive the typos please

  • How do I get my old imac back to factory condition without a DVD so I can sell it

My old imac did not come with a DVD, neither did my new one for that matter, how do I erase all my personal data and return the old machine back to factory condition without a DVD?

That's a great tip If the Op has the original version of OS X installed. If he ever upgraded to Lion or Mt Lion he can not sell the computer with either of those OSs installed as they are Tied to his Apple ID and not to the computer.
This will cause all kinds of problems for the buyer.
The OP needs to get replacement system discs from Apple and install the original version of OS X on it before it is sold.
