Backing up ~ what no folders

Question

heya
{using iPhoto 8.1.2}
older versions of iPhoto meant I could just drag imports straight to my hard drive and they'd save as dated folders:
I can't seem to find how to do that in this newer version?
if I import from the iPhoto library, it just saves images as one huge event {with each image label as chosen by menu options}:
previously there were year>month>day folders:
nice and tidy and easy for me to locate what I need:
I'm sure it's something really really simple I am missing here!

iPhoto would kindly create folders that were numbered for me when I uploaded images from my camera: I could rename these folders and export them to my hard drive:
You are referring to iPhoto 5 or earlier where instead of Events they had Rolls and were automatically numbered. However, when exporting from iPhoto 5 the user still has to create and name the destination folder.
Events are essentially the same as the old rolls except their organization is more time based.
Any number of photos imported at the same time will be in the same event. If the photos in an event are all selected and exported via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option they can be directed to a predetermined folder. You will have to name that folder and create it yourself just like with iPhoto 5. You can rename the events like you renamed rolls.
