Backing up Zen MicroPhoto (8

In reviewing all material that came with my new MicroPhoto (ZMP8GB) as well as reviewing this forum, I haven't found anything dealing with how to do a total backup of the Zen. I'd like to make a copy of the complete image of all my music and playlists on the Zen so that if anything ever happens to it, I can just reload the copy from my PC. Is it possible to do this? I haven't succeeded when trying to use the audio sync function in Creative MediaSource Organizer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the screen? really? i was thinking some sort of power/battery glitch, since i get no backlight, no lights on the keyboard, no light on the on/off switch when it's not hooked up to the computer via usb. also coz that "your battery level is too low" error message.
actually, it's probably BOTH a power issue and screen issue, now that i think about it. *sigh* guess i'll contact the seller and see what he'll do. yeah, normally i have luck on ebay. my little zenv plus was certainly a good buy. oh well.

hello everybody, i bought a zen microphoto 4GB in June and it worked perfectly until two days ago. I turned it on like i do everyday to listen to music on my way to school. i downloaded the newest version of firmware onto it'sthree days before. when i turned it on, it went into recovery mode. so i went to reboot, and it goes back into recovery mode. i tried about 3 times, then it disabled all the functions. i couldn't control anything. so i took out the battery, and left it until i came home. i come home, put in the battery, turn it on. i plug it in the computer, and the computer does not reconize that its docked and the screen goes white and then it shuts off by itself. then it just freezes, it refuses to turn on. i tell my friend?yesterday at school and he said the hard dri've crashed and now i have a brick the size of a zen microphoto. is this true, or?is something else wrong with it. please someone help if you can. one method i saw and tried worked well but you need to try it at your own risk!!! turn off your microphoto, grab your microphoto with the screen facing you, and either slap your hand against the SIDE of your microphoto, or slap the SIDE of your microphoto against your hand. This method works for me but try it at your own risk. it could damage your hard disk. (its probably already damaged anyways.)and if you really need to turn off your Zen but it wont turn off, i suggest removing the battery.

Zen Microphoto Pixel Problems (Red Li

OK, so I have a BRAND NEW Zen Microphoto and ever since I first turned the thing on I have this RED LINE (about pixel wide) running vertically down the middle of my screen. It's like you can still see what's there behind it if you look closely.
I actually had gotten it go away for a little while, and it has come back and has been there since. So I don't believe there is damage to the actual OLED screen, but who knows I'm no professional here!!
Other than the annoying line the player seems to be working fine.. but like I said, its ANNOYING.
I have tried a few things to fix it.. I've formatted it and rebooted it from Recovery Mode.. I've TRIED to update the firmware, but I can't seem to get the Firware Update to connect to my Microphoto. Windows, Windows Media Player, and Creative MediaSource Organizer reads it being there.. yet NOT the Firmware Update. Actually I THINK I got WIndows to update the Firmware for me or something because accorinding to my Microphoto it already has that version on there?
If anyone has any suggestions, or heard of this happening PLEASE let me know. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I looked all over the place to find one, and when I finally did I'm having problems with it!

I am having the exact same problem with my Zen Microphoto. There is a vertical red line in the display. It appears to be pixel in width extending the height of the screen, top to bottom. EXTREMELY annoying!

I finally got my white Zen MicroPhoto in from Singapore yesterday (I'm in the USA).
Overall I am very impressed and so far, the only thing that I have found that I'm not really fond of is the size/shape of the screen. It is definitely more of a square than a rectangle, which leads to more of the song info being cut off as opposed to the regular Zen Micro.
The sides and back (battery cover) are now made out of annodized metal instead of plastic. And the hold button, usb port, and headphone jack all seem a lot more sturdy, but at this point in time I'm not willing to do any further testing on that (especially the headphone jack) for obvious reasons.
Also, there is a piece of paper in the box that says the PlaysForSure feature will be available soon via a firmware download.
Feel free to ask me any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

Yup, I had a 5gb Zen Micro, one of the first ones that came out (and I didn't start having the headphone jack problem with mine until about 0 months after owning it). I cannot notice a difference between the sound quality but I will say the sound quality is greatly affected by which headphones you are using. When switching between the stock head phones and a pair of iPod Headphones, the iPod headphones sounded slightly better but the volume was much lower. I've honestly never listened to any other current MP3 players so I can't make a good comparison there, but I will say there is little if no difference in sound quality between the Zen Micro and the Zen MicroPhoto. I do not find the OLED screen to be dim at all, it's bright enough to be read in almost any condition I've used it in so far. The screen looks very nice, it's not anything spectacular but it shows photos quite nicely, minus the fact that the screen is a little square. I would probably rate it around an 8 but I'm going to take a look at my friends iPod Photo on Monday and see if i can compare.

Creative Zen MicroPhoto Error (8

Hi,
I'm from the UK but purchase a Zen MicroPhoto from the USA brand new. I've had it around 3 weeks and its been great but the other day when i went to turn it on the screen froze and it wouldn't boot up the the menu like usual. It is the Creative logo screen in white on the black background, the one with the copyright information.
Anyway i've had it in revocery mode and nothing but the reboot option works but of course it just boots to the same situation except that its just Creative white on black logo with no copyright info. Then freezes at that point. Of course it won't install the new firmware i have as it won't recognize it on the computer because it hasn't booted properly..
Clean up - Freezes and never completes
Reboot Firmware - Freezes.
Formate - Freezes
Reboot- Freezes after attempt.
I've read through a few topics and seen similar things but is there a solution or is my Mp3 player faulty? It seems the optins to sort this out they give you are as good as a chocolate fireguard.
Will i have to send it back to get it sorted and will Creti've UK take it's

If it was something the player could recover from (ie just an error), then the options in Recovery Mode should have done that. It unfortunately sounds like it's faulty.
Contact Customer Support (for the UK), I'm sure they will be able to assist you.

New Zen MicroPhoto not seen by XP or Vi

I'm a total newbie to Creative MP3 players. Just got one yesterday from Electronica Direct via Amazon's store. Running Vista on an HP Pavilian dual core (just 3 months old so very new cutting edge hardware) and running XP on a 5 year old Sony Vaio laptop. Both have latest MS service paks and security fixes.
Also, I appear to be running latest Creative stuff since when I check for updates it reports it doesn't find any. The Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer reports v5.0.2 and:
Creative Import Wizard File (Version .0.25.0)
Creative Audio CD Ripper (Version 5.00.20)
Creative Sync Manager (Version 5.20.09)
Creative Playlist Wizard (Version 3..5.0)
PIM Editor (Version .3.0.0)
Creative Media Explorer reports on both PCs when Zen MicroPhoto plugged into USB:
"Your player is not connected. Please connect your Zen MicroPhoto to the computer."
I can play the music that comes with the Zen. I have used the supplied cable to plug into various USB ports on both PCs. Each time the Creative Media Explorer reports it doesn't see anything.
Under System info the MicroPhoto reports it is version .20.0.
If I unplug the USB plug from the MicroPhoto and then plug it in the MicroPhoto starts itself up. So does that mean it is seeing something electrically from the PC?
In both XP and Vista if I try to close the Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer clicking on the red X does not close it.
In the HP Vista Device Manager under Portable Devices I only see:
USB CF Reader
USB MS Reader
USB SD Reader
USB SM Reader
Right clicking and doing "Scan for hardware changes" does not help.
In the HP Vista Device Manager under "Uni'versal Serial Bus controllers" I see Intel chips, a USB Mass Storage Device and a bunch of USB Root Hub entries. No Creative device. Also, doing "Scan for hardware changes" does not help in this category either.
Similarly, I do not see the Zen MicroPhoto in the XP Vaio's Device Manager. The Vaio XP Device Manager does not show a "Portable Devices" entry in the main list.
Also, the Vaio's original USB ports are v.. If plug into one of them I can power up the MicroPhoto. The Vaio also has PCMCIA USB 2.0 extender ports and they appear not to provide enough power to start up the MicroPhoto. Does the MicroPhoto need USB 2.0?
I am open to suggestions for things to try...

Need serious help with my Zen Microphoto

My Zen Microphoto controls are messed up. evrytime i try to use the vertical pad it actually forwards me to the next song. When i press back to return to the previous menu, instead of doing that it played music that i did not even select?
I REALLY need some help here!!! Its a new Zen Microphoto bought only for a month....

What did you do to control the senstivity of the touchpad. Do you set it to low or med or high I tried all, it is very upsetting not to be able to master something as simple as this. I love the player I just got it yesterday the sound is beautifull although I accidently had it turn to high when it started to play.

Zen MicroPhoto or Micro stuck in Recovery Mode? Can't update firmware? Try this

This is the only thing that worked for me to get my broken Zen MicroPhoto up and running again. It was stuck in Recovery Mode and my XP SP2/WMP laptop wouldn't recognize when trying to load firmware or in Creative Media Explorer or WMP.
To Fix any problems with broken firmware form attempted "playsforsure"
firmware updates etc where your pc finds it as a 20mb dri've and it sits
in recovery mode and does bugger all:
1. Uninstall all creative software & drivers
2. Uninstall Media Player and Media Player runtime (will require a
reboot for each thing). This is done by going to add/remove programs and
uninstalling (this will put your pc back to wmp0).
3. Re-install the Zen Driver from the creative website and reboot (I just reloaded Media Explorer using my ZMP install CD).
4, Plug Zen in.
5, Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but don't click
the language bit yet), leave the mouse hovering over your language
selection. (for ZMP, just start firmware exe file, there is no language selection. You can get the firmware update from Creative's site, go to SUPPORT and then DOWNLOADS).
6. On the Zen- select "reload OS" (on ZMP I believe it is Erase or Reload Firmware, something like that, don't have it in front of me).
7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the
language button
8. Now the pc should find it and allow you to re-load the
firmware. (it may take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
be fine.
0. Once all is working, you can re-install WMP and it will work fine.
I hope this helps somebody.

Zen MicroPhoto first time connection proble

I recieved my new Zen MicroPhoto in the mail yesterday, whereupon I installed the software it came with and hooked it up via USB to charge. The USB connection is quite sensiti've, but I can get the player to charge.
However, when I tried to add some songs, the Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer (which the user guide tells you to open) says at the top that my player is not connected. The USB is plugged in exactly the same was as though to charge it but it won't be recognized by the Media Explorer. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is it only possible to add or remove songs when the player is fully charged?
Most of these posts are from people who were able to upload songs initially but are having problems down the road. I saw tips about reinstalling firmware on the player and other things, but as the player is brand new it seems unlikely that it is corrupted. I already tried reinstalling the software it comes with on my computer, just to check.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I installed all of the software on another computer in my house and the player was recognized and I was able to copy some files onto it.
The problem could be with my USB's or the bits of software I omitted when installing it. Right now I'm uninstalling everything and going to reinstall it later this evening. If it doesn't work then, I'll be back. My computer is updated and so is my Windows Media Player.

Zen microphoto crashing

i have recently purchase a titanium(grey) zen microphoto i honestly have to say that i love this product... however i have been encountering many problems w/ it freezing. this is the second microphoto i have purchase because i hoped that the second one would not act the same way, i was wrong. i did some research on how to reboot but in the directions it stated "turn the mp3 player off" which did not help because the power button didnt work (this is when the microphoto froze) and i was affraid to pull out the battery while it was on because thats how my first microphoto broke in the first place. if any one knows about this problem and have experience fixing it, i will be very grateful!

Recently my ZMP also froze when skipping songs and nothing works so i just removed and put the battery back. Then i went recovery mode and did disk cleaning twice but still the player froze the the "Creative' screen. So i just left removed and put the battery back again.
After work i turned my player on and to my amazement, it's back to normal!

Zen MicroPhoto Freezes

I have a Zen MicroPhoto and about two days ago the battery died. As normal, I would connect it to my PC via USB and charge it. I charged it overnight, and woke up to listen to it. I turned it on, and for some reason it froze and on the screen was the word "Creative", I left it there for a couple of minutes but it just stayed there. So, whenever my player freezes, I simply remove the battery and put it back in. 99% of the times it works, but for some reason it didn't. I NEVER dropped my player, infact it's not damaged. I tried running the recovery mode, I tried clean up, left it on overnight, woke up and my player was off. Thinking it was done and up and running, I turn on my player and the same thing happened; "Creative" on the screen and nothing works. Again, I run the recovery mode, and this time I select the reload Firmware (or something like that) left it overnight once more, woke up and still failed to start up. So I run recovery mode ONCE MORE, and tried Format all, knowing that it will delete all my filed (I have all my music on my PC anyway), I go ahead and do it. Once more, I left it overnight (with the PC on of course) and woke up to no prevail... So I go to Creative website, and download the firmware updater, and now my PC doesn't detect connection via USB... So, I download these three apps I found on the Knowledge Base and still doesn't work... Anyone with any solutions please, please, PLEASE help me out because life without my MP3 player is miserable, very, very horrible and boring... Also the only time that it actually detects the player is when the battery life is low and that message "Low Battery" appears on the LCD screen. I then connect the USB and it detects it for a couple of seconds but I try to open the Firmware updater and it just freezes, when I remove the USB from the player, the updater opens... Maybe I should just buy an iPod because I'm getting tired of these ridiculous problems and I try to contact Creative via e-mail and by phone and they all say the same BULL that doesn't fix a thing. Well there really isn't anything that you can do... I had the same issues with mine... I took it to the store and I got a new one and now I am having issues with that one as well so all that I can tell you is to either try again with another Creative or get a new one... Personally I would say get a new one that is what I am planing on doing this time.

how do u reset the microphoto so it resets completly, like?you just bought it

? turn your Zen MicroPhoto off
? slide back cover off, remove battery
? slide ON switch all the way to the left and hold in on
? while the switch is held to ON, replace battery and back cover
? select Disk Clean-up from the Recovery Menu
? select Reboot after Clean-up has completed
? select Format if you want to delete all your files
? don't select Remove Firmware, unless you want to go through some hassle getting your computer to recognize your Zen again

8GB Zen Microphoto won't char

Hope u can help me!!?My 8GB Zen Microphoto will charge fine when i connect it to my computer, but i've bought a generic wall charger and when i plug it in, the player recognises it and the battery icon will flash that it's charging, but then i come back to it the next day and it's still at the same battery level!?Is it a problem with the mp3 player?What can i do?!!please help!?

Zen microphoto + itunes plug in +

hello all,
I'm desperately trying get my ZEN MICROPHOTO back into the useful category.. As of now it is collecting dust... with a dead battery as a result of me buying a mac.
I'm using an emac G4 .25GHz, mac os 0.3.9.
I've tried XNJB, no luck.. tried all different combinations of the order in how I try to connect, made sure I had absolutely nothing else running or connected to usb/fw... nothing.
I was reading the other day that there is a PLUG IN FOR ITUNES that will allow use with zen microphoto. However, I have tried extensi've googling but have not been able to locate a source for dl that is still operational.. Can someone please help?
I am so frustrated with this mp3 player, even when I had a PC (XP), the player was very temperamental...
please help! does any one have the itunes plug in?

I have had good luck running XNJB. It seems to integrate well, with some limited capability (can't upgrade firmware, upload computer time). But transferring music is easy. I'm using Mac OS 0.4.9 on a MacBook Pro. I could have sworn I just saw a reference to Zen Micro Photo for that iTunes plug in, but now I can't find it. Maybe I was seeing what I wanted to see. But I'm tempted to try the one for the other Nomad/Zen products, to see if it will work. One problem I have not solved with XNJB is that I can't seem to add the date tag to the files. So, when I look at my list of downloaded talk radio MP3s, I can't sort by the specific date of the download, and instead have to reference back to the title between iTunes, which sorts them that way and back to XNJB.
Anyway, if anyone has answers please provide. If I were you I'd try to relaod XNJB and read their website. It may be a matter of how you are using it. Are you connecting to the player, or attempting, or just assuming it connects on it's own? USB? Etc....
