Backlight AND GPU Problems? ARGHHHH

Even though my iBook G3 800 MHz has been having the flickering screen, lines, and freezes common of the GPU problem for about 6 months, it's been tolerable. I just told myself as soon as I couldn't deal with it, I'd send it in. Well, I wouldn't be posting this right now, if my backlight hadn't gone out. I opened it up, and it looks to me like it's the "pinched inverter cable" problem. So, I guess it's time to send it in. Problem is, I don't have the money to send it to Apple, but I really don't think I'm handy enough to fix it myself.
My question is, does anyone know a reputable website or company that would fix this sort of thing (I actully can live with the GPU problem, they don't need to fix that) cheaper then Apple?
Thanks in advance

You may want to try DT & T Computer Services, but don't go halfway with it. Have them fix it completely or don't even bother sending it in. Why? Because one week after you get it back, that logic board could quit on you completely. Mine got so I could only use it 20 minutes a day.
If you ask, they may give you a discount on fixing the cable/logic board problem at the same time, since they only have to open it once. You could ask (I would.)
Good luck.

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen. Backlight and App Problem

I bought an iPod touch 2nd gen. from a friend and it worked completely fine. But today, my iPod's backlight just randomly shut off. I can see the apps and everything works perfectly fine, the screen is just very dim. The iPod is jailbroken. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?? PLEASE HELP!
Also, another problem I am having is with apps. Some apps that I have had previously installed on my iPod and then deleted will not reinstall along with new apps I wish to install. I have tried installing them from iTunes on my computer, but that doesn't help either. If anyone has any answers to any of these problems, please help me.
    THANK YOU ((:
I do not know what operating system the iPod currently running on.

Exact same problem. I bought my ipod touch 2nd gen last december.I have always kept it in a plastic case for protection. Then the other day the button wasnt responding very well, I thought it was because the case wasnt fitting correctly. So today the button stopped working completely. My local retail store elcorteingles¿ i live in spain? are useless, theyll tell me to call apple, but because my 90 fredays are up i have to pay probally which is stupid considering my ipod is still under warranty. I also have never dropped my ipod ¿it cost allot of money so obviously ive been looking after it)
So I gues the best option is take it to your local retail store (if their usefull) or in my case ill have to send it away for maintanance.

  • CPU and GPU slow down after system upgrade

Ok, I can't find anything similar to the question I have...but this forum goes on forever
As my system specs appear below, my machine was running quite comfortably a week ago, with same setup...minus the acrylic case and second 120GB hard drive.
    At that stage I had "nomal" benchmarking scores 3dmark03 - 5850, Aquamark3 41.000, PC mark 2002 - cpu7020 mem8438 hdd1050.
Life was good and I loved my system
Then I decided it would be cool to upgrade to an acrylic case (which has better cooling with 3 fans) and a second 120 GB HDD to make a striped raid array.
My first concern was the raid Array. I was carefull to buy the exact same seagate hard drive, size etc. the original was only a month old anyway. The second was to use the intel southbridge chip for SATA RAID or the Promise controller? After researching these forums I decided to go with the Intel as it has more possible bandwidth and doesn't sit on the PCI bus.
I got the new case and wearing those stupid white gloves, proceeded to move the components over and trash my "old" metal case.
The windows NTFS format (full) flew by in 30 seconds and I was really impressed.
Once windows xp and all it's drivers and updates were installed, incl sound and graphics etc. I did a 3Dmark 2001 test before upgrading to Dx9...what a bad mark! 3Dmark2001SE - 9950 (terrible for this system).
    I thought it was a DX problem...so I installed Dx9
Then opened that corecenter program (the old one, the one that doesn't crash...)
and my CPU was about 5c hotter than usual, it was running at 40-42c (I have standard intel cooling fan). It went up to 55 at times when running PC mark 2002.
This didn't concern me too much a the system was stable at 32-34c and the northbridge read 60c (but we all know that's not true , more like 35ish.
    My PC mark 2002 is now cpu4200 - mem4800 - hdd1800
(at least the HDD improved!) LOL
    I ran Aquamark3 next...29,900 (ouch!)
Previously my CPU was 8,700 and GPU was 5300
now the CPU read 4400 and the GPU 4600
I don't really notice the speed loss when working, but games and benchmarks tell a different story.
So, My question: What has happened? Why is my CPU power cut in half? and the graphics card slightly slower? The memory speed stayed the same and the HDD speed improved....not a worthwhile upgrade IMO
    What went wrong?
    Here are my theories.
    1) The CPU and system case is getting too hot
Does the CPU "throttle" when it overheats? this could be the reason.
Also both HDD get really hot and the fan in front blows air over them, this hot air could be going over the CPU or GPU. Maybe get 2 HDD coolers?
should I buy a better CPU cooler like the Thermaltake spark7+ ?
    2) The PSU does not have enough watts
I couldn't find traces of voltage lack or spikes...but it could still be a problem
    3) The RAID0 array is a strain on the CPU and chipset
      I'm not sure about this.
My appologies for the lengthy thread, but I wanted to be sure that anyone trying to figure this out had as much info as possible
Thanks if u can help me figure this out.

Perhaps I should upgrade the overall cooling. Get a Thermaltake copper fan and two HDD coolers.
Well, your temps sound allright, no need to worry them, if they really operate at that level.

The solution to set the FSB to 201Mhz sounds good. But do I set this in the BIOS or with Corecenter in windoze?
Propably meant to adust your FSB at BIOS, at least that is what I would suggest.

I will try to re-install the VGA drivers because something strange DID happen when I first installed them. I started with the hercules driver CD, this installed CAT 3.2 drivers. I then upgraded to CAT 3.7 and before it completed I got an error window (send, dont send).
Remove drivers AND ATI control panel first, and then re-install. Use drivers from ATI site, and rather Catalyst 3.7. I Have had problems with 3.8 Catalysts.

Still wouldn't explain why the CPU seems so crippled. I have managed to get a "normal cpu score of 7000+ in PCmark2002 by shutting down, restarting later and killing every process except explorer.
Do you have any processes that seem to eat more juice thant hey should?  Arrange your processes by CPU usage and see if there is something strange.

If this cant be fixed I will reinstall over the weekend. Does anyone know of the RAID0 array on the southbridge causing a system slowdown?
I'm using Intel RAID and it works perfectly, no extra CPU usage is shown and it's pleasantly fast!
And Install latest Intel INF updates and Application Accelerator from Intel site. That's what I'm using, and works fine.

  • Brush pressure and lag problem with CS4

I've been having a huge problem with Photoshop CS4 and the brushes. Whenever I go to brush, the pressure will turn off and on randomly with each stroke, and it lags horribly. I've installed CS4 on two computers with Windows 7, and both have this problem, but my old computer which had Vista was perfectly fine. I've tried downloading new versions of CS4, turning the OpenGL on and off, updating the GPU, downloading the Windows 7 tablet driver (that made it worst), and a bunch of other things. Nothing has worked, and this problem has been going on for two months. I'm starting to think the only way to fix this problem is by switching back to Vista. Can anyone please help me solve this? Thank you.
My computer is an HP that runs on Windows 7, my Tablet is a Wacom Intuos3, and I have Photoshop CS4 Extended 11.0.2

Others have reported that completely removing the tablet driver(s) first, then installing the very latest from the Wacom web site have made things work.
    Good luck.

  • PPBM5 Questions and GPU Rendering Concerns

Bill and Harm, i figured i woud post this here instead of a private email so as to get some opinions and input from others.
I am a bit confused with the logic behind the gpu testing and want to make sure i understand how this is working and make sure i dont have any problems with my machine.
I just wiped out my 8 core, 20GB ram, SSD, gtx 460/2GB, machine and put a fresh win7/64 on it with cs5 and nothing else.
i am planning on doing various tests with the SSD, then SATA Raid, then my 4gbit fibrechannel in combinations.
My concern is over the gpu acceleration and timeline rendering. My basis for wanting these gfx cards with cs5 is on the PPBM results showing all kinds of double digit speed gains with MPE enabled.
I have 8 of these machines and need to upgrade them all so i am concerned to make sure what i am doing and what i am getting for it.
my first obvious question for everyone else is when you load the benchmark in what do you see on the timeline? i have all yellow except for two small red lines near the end of each section where the curtain and cube effects are at.
Now when i hit the spacebar to play the timeline at starts out ok but then hits the 8 second mark into it and chokes out the rest of the way skipping frames and drawing maybe 3-5 frames per second until it gets through the rest.  Is this what happens for everyone else or does your system play the yellow area smoothly?
Is this a by-product of my manually putting the 460 into my supported cards file and premiere not properly calculating what the gpu can and cannot accelerate?
Now as for the benchmark testing itself when i hit enter it simply renders out those 2 effects that have the red line then starts playing the same choked out skippy video as before.
So if this speed is calculated and then the speed of my cpu rendering the entire timeline then how is this an effective comparison? if i simply remove those two effects at the end then i still have that big complicated timeline and yet if i hit enter it just plays choppy video instantly and nothing is rendered, so compared to my cpu thats a bazillion times faster but i dont get anything out of it as the video doesnt actually play with the gpu.
My real concern and need is flat out rendering speed for encoding. i had high hopes that getting a video card with hundreds of cores on it would magically render out mpeg 2 files 10-20x faster then my cpus can.
i saved out a pic of my cores when i am playing the timeline, you can see they are not being maxxed out.
Before i wiped my system out i tried the trial version of the mainconcept gpu encoder and it went slower with the gpu than it did with my cpus. Their email response to me was that gpu rendering is more of an advantage against slow cpu systems. and my cpu's were too fast in comparison. I find this hard to believe in that my system is several years old now. thier own performance comparison charts show a tremendous speed increase over modern I7 processors.
On a side note - DONT INSTALL MAINCONCEPT TRIAL ENCODER!- it hijaacked my mpeg encoding/decoding even when i wasnt using it and it was watermarking all my stuff in premiere with its logo!
I also have been using a program called canopus procoder which does great encoding with multi cores, a standard dv to mpeg2 encode on my system maxxes all 8 cores and renders about 14x faster than realtime.
I hoped a cuda card could increase this speed for me and render faster then that directly out of premiere. I would think during rendering your cpu's and gpu's would work together at 100% usage to go as fast as possible. i would like to see 20-30x realtime speed for mpeg2 encoding in my situation.
Thanks and i look forward to any input or help or even a simple "click on this and yoru problem is solved"

harm, thats kind of funny actually, you show us a report of your dropped frames on playback then say you cant tell us how because of NDA, yet we obviously know you have an app that reports the dropped frames during playback
But thats ok, anyways as far as your ppbm goes i love it and dont mean to desparage it in any way, i have been a big supporter and love the work you and bill have put into it. I am really just trying to have a better understanding of how it works.
My concern is more about premiere as opposed to ppbm.  I want to know if my system matches what everyone else sees, when i load the project is get this:
i just want to make sure everyone else has the same tiny red sections that premiere feels it can't play.
previously premiere has always either played in realtime at 30fps or shown a red line which needs to be rendered. then if you render it you get full 30fps playback on the entire timeline.
now with this new gpu workflow i can only render those two tiny little red sections and the rest of my timeline plays at about 2 or 3 fps from 8 seconds into the timeline until the end.
So I actually have no physical way to see my video at full 30fps without changing to software mode and rendering the entire timeline?  or am i missing something here?
Isn't premiere supposed to recognize when it cant keep up with 30fps playback and change that section of the timeline to red?
And on a side note i still have to say i am fairly annoyed that an adobe employee took it upon themselves to move my thread into the unpopular generic premiere hardware forum, when this is a very specific premiere cs5 question thread. I have never even looked in this forum for any cs5 posts before now and had hoped to get more feedback from users in the main premiere cs5 forum.  A lot of companies like to treat their customers well and the old addage "the customer is always right" doesn't seem to apply anymore. My company probably has purchased over $1,000,000 in adobe software licenses over the years which i feel would make me a valuable customer, and i have some important questions i need to ask about the new version of your software and how it is supposed to work.
    thanks

  • GPU Problems with my GT60 2OC-024US

    Hi guys!
A couple of days ago, I opened up my GT60 to add a new SSD I bought and, since I was opening it up, I also repasted the GPU and CPU. It was the first time I was doing it on this computer, but its not the first time I do a repasting on a pc. So, everything went smoothly, changed the paste, put the heatsink back in place, and then, when I tried to boot the PC, it got stuck after posting, like waiting from a response from the GPU I guess...
Tried a couple of reboots and nothing worked, so then i proceeded to enter in safe mode to check if it was only a GPU problem and it was. With the integrated graphics i was able to uninstall NVIDIA drivers and then, voilá, I booted normally without problems, EXCEPT, of course, I cant use the dedicated gpu.
Already tried all kinds of drivers, tried opening it up again, repasting, reconnecting the GPU, and nothing works. As soon as the OS tries to use the dedicated GPU (after I install NVIDIA's drivers) the same problem appears. So it seems something has happened with it.
Any ideas or insight on this? I don't know how to proceed. I bought the notebook on the USA but I live in Argentina and i'm not sure if there's official RMA or something around here.
    Thanks a lot!

Did you ever think it might be a SSD compatilibty problem?

  • Video lag at start and stability problems in Android 4 (ICS) when using Video and StageVideo

I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, which comes with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In Android 3 (Honeycomb) and 2 (Gingerbread and Froyo) video playback worked perfectly and started with no lag, but in Android 4 video takes like a couple of seconds to start, showing nothing during that time.
This problem happens when using either Video and StageVideo objects, but when using StageVideo, there's also another problem: When playing back a second video after having closed the first, even after some minutes, when starting the next video I can see during those couple of seconds a still image of the previous video, in the part where it was stopped. Why?
None of this happened in Android 3 and 2, so I don't think it's something related to my code (and I've reviewed it several times to try and find a solution). This seems to be an Android 4 specific issue with AIR, since I've tried several Android 4 tablets of different brands and all of them show this behaviour. I've tried with AIR 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 beta, and this problem happens in all three.
Also, there are some random stability problems if the app goes to sleep while playing a video. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up properly and freezes, giving you a "force close" Android message. Sometimes it wakes up properly but the video doesn't show or it's paused. All of this in "CPU" mode. In "Direct" mode it seems to work a little better.
BTW, can someone explain what's exactly the new "Direct" mode. I know it's needed for Stage3D, but I don't know why there's that specific mode, when there's GPU mode. Isn't Stage3D supposed to use the device's GPU? Well, Direct mode seems to be "better" than GPU in that filter effects work, whereas GPU mode doesn't support filters, so if you can use Stage3D while using filter effects, that's great.

Yes, it's unfortunately still not fixed. Also, I've looked into the bugbase report I filed:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3205172
And it seems they've CLOSED this bug!
They say that they can't "control the video overlay buffer that is still in the hardware. This really depend on how ICS handle their buffer and external playback".
The only workaround is NOT using StageVideo, but just regular video. But then you can't use hardware acceleration!
Also, there's the crashing bug, which is even more important. Video crashes too often, especially in off-brand tablets, which are becoming very common!

  • Windows 10 - AMD GPU Problem

I recently upgraded to Microsoft's new OS, Windows 10 (Was Windows 7 Pro). Before the upgrade, Microsoft's system check stated that all my software and hardware was compatible, so I decided to upgrade. The problem is that all my hardware wasn't completely compatible. My computer kept on crashing after a few minutes after start up, I did some research and the problem was my AMD Radeon HD 8750M GPU. I had to disable the GPU in order to even use my computer. Windows 10 & my computer works fine now, but I am wondering if there is an updated driver for the AMD Radeon HD 8750M. I tried checking for driver updates through Window's Device Manager but received this message:  I also went on HP's site to check for the drivers:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5405424&ac.admitted=1405091577086.876444892.492883150&swEnvOID=4059&action=listDriver&swLang=8
There is currently no option for Windows 10 however. Will my AMD GPU have an updated driver released soon? or is my GPU unsupported now? If the driver is out there, I would like the link to it please, thank you. I would also like to note that my NoteBook has switchable graphics and I am currently using my Intel GPU. If I attempt to install a driver and use my AMD card, then Windows 10 will crash and give me an "Internal Battery Error" and reboot my PC.

So I reupdated to Windows 10 and I checked this: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5405424&ac.admitted=1405091577086.876444892.492883150&swEnvOID=4059&action=listDriver&swLang=8 and I saw that the AMD driver has a new update for Windows 10. HOWEVER! I am still receiving that "INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR" that I see a lot of AMD users on the ProBook 450 G1 have also received. This is quite frustrating. :L

  • Backlighting and options

I have a dv5-1254us pavilion and the problem of the backlight working and not working. It works when the screen is halfway closed and doesnt work when it's fully open. When I touch the lower left back of it, it flickers which I take it as something is loose. My warranty has expired and I've looked at the other options hp have but feel confused about which ones do what and don't do. I just want to know simply if i can send it in to be repaired and if so how much would that be?

My phone is doing this too, it makes it impossible to type in the dark!  The little green notification light also keeps blinking even though there are no notifications!  I called Verizon about the notification light and they told me I would have to factory reset the phone, which seems to be their answer for any problem I call in with.  I called in about a month ago because my phone wasn't working at all... I couldn't make or receive any calls, texts, emails, nothing.  They told me my phone booted itself off of the network and I would have to reset.  I had to leave for work at that time so I said I would call back later to reset.  About 30 minutes later my phone had apparently booted itself back on because it was working fine.  Makes me hesitant to factory reset for anything.

  • Has the Asus G71GX-RX05 GPU problem been fixed?

Has the Asus G71GX-RX05 GPU problem been fixed? And if so what do you have to do to fix it.

    hi vanhelsing.
i know that asus was working on an updated BIOS to fix the GPU issue, and according to the last post in this thread on the asus support forums (http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20090627114124765&board_id=3&model=G71Gx(BestBuy)&SLanguage=e...), rev. 1201 seems to have done the trick.
i checked the asus support website (http://support.asus.com), and i found that there is an even new version of the BIOS - rev. 1302. i would recommend moving to this BIOS upon unboxing your G71GX.
i have updated the BIOS on both notebooks and desktops before, and the process is fairly painless. i found this link off the asus support site (http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us), and it describes how to update the BIOS. i would recommend having a conversation with your local geek squad if you're not comfortable doing the process yourself.

  • K9A Platinum and POST Problems

Alright... here's the deal. I am building a brand new machine. I got a relative nice case and 650W PSU with dual fans. GOt 2GB of Corsair XMS DDR2 675 Memory (Matched Pair). I also bought an AMD X2 AM2 4600 and a Zalman CNPS9500 for AM2 Fan. My video Card is a Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro. When I power up all fans, Zalman, and GPU Fan run but I get no video as well as no POST Beeps at all. I have done the following below.
    1. Used another older Video Card that verified in my existing machine works - no change
    2. Changed from top X16 GPU Slot to second - no change
    3. Reseated memory, tried one at a time and verified they were in DIMMS 1 and 3 for Dual Channel - No Change
    4. Not running Crossfire but plugged in Power Outlet with that - no change
    5. Removed cabling to Front USB and Sound - no change
    6. Removed HDD and CD Combo Drive from equation - no change
    7. Reset BIOS Jumper - no change
    8. Reset CMOS Battery - no change
I ordered a POST Card from eBay to help diagnose the problem as I do not have spare board, proc, or mem that are AM2 or DDR2 compatable. I also sent in tech request form to MSI.
I am not quite sure what to do or where to go from here. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
P.S. I used Anti-static wrist guard while installing all components. Not that that is 100% full proof but it is good.

Remove the board from the case and try it on a peice of cardboard. This makes sure you aren't touching some contact point to the case and grounding out something critical.
Try just the hardware to absolutly need to post. Use one stick of RAM
    Do a Bios Reset.

  • Dust between backlight and screen

After talking to a friend who had similar issues it turns out that what I thought were dead pixels are in fact tiny patches of dust/debris between the backlight and the screen. How they suddenly appeared (particularly a new one recently in the centre of the screen) is a mystery, but I definitely believe the diagnosis to be correct - the little dots are grey not black, and they are not square and well defined in the way dead pixels are.
I know that replacing a screen/backlight in a PowerBook is exceptionally difficult, but as in this case nothing would actually need to be removed or replaced, would it be possible to separate the two to clean away this dust?

    Hi guys,
That sounds about right. If they look similar to dead pixels but more grey and ill-defined then it seems likely you've got the same problem.
My final solution was... to give up sell the PowerBook to my dad. Bought a new MacBook instead. Shame, because I was hoping to get a bit more use out of it before I upgraded, but there you go.

    Hi Danny,
Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
    but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
    =COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
    or
    =SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

i have upgraded my iPad mini to iOS 8. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8 am facing blue screen issues and heating problem as well. This is really frustrating even the patch iOS 8.0.2 dint solve the problem. Are you guys listening our complaints. When will you fixing it.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback.  I'm not sure this will help you since you have a Honda, but I'm posting this just in case.
I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6.  However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically.  I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car.  Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device.  So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it.  YMMV
