Backlight and related issue in center of screen

Hey everyone,
I upgraded to 10.6.3 last night, watched a TV episode and went to bed. When I woke up this morning I noticed a blurry whitish, more-or-less circular, mark in the center of the screen. This is before I even powered it on. After it booted up I could still see, when darker colors were behind it, that this circle was there. I dimmed my LCD all the way and found that that patch did not dim at all and I could actually see what was on my screen perfectly in this area while the rest of my screen was dark!
It gets even weirder though.
I booted into windows using BootCamp and dimmed the screen and it dimmed uniformly! The only issue is that the white smudge which appears to be almost a mark on the inside of whatever actually coats the LCD is still there.
My guess is that somehow (through the update?) my backlight was in that area went haywire and did something strange and this may have caused physical damage to the screen in that area (the whitish mark that appears even when the screen is off, visible only over black or darker colors).
What should I do about this and is my guess correct?

FYI, that Apple logo that lights up on the back side of the display can cause what you are seeing. That logo is based on a translucent patch and light can shine through it in both directions. You can see this by holding the darkened screen up directly with its back to a light bulb and you will see light shinning through the Apple logo onto the dark screen. I'm guessing that's what you are seeing.

If it can run a JavaVM with the correct permissions there are no
other special requirements.

Not really sure of your question. The XML components are useful
in any application where I am processing documents or data with
an XML structure. The choice to use XML can be based on quite a
range of requirements due to its declarative syntax and open
standards. If you give me a specific application, I can perhaps
be more helpful.

Backlight and dimming issues

So on my iphone, i turned off auto-brightness and set my phone to a specific brightness. Now the strange thing is that sometimes the phone is at the correct brightness but then sometimes it just stays a bit dim and does appear to be at the brightness level that i set it too. This appears to happen when the iphone is coming out of being locked. If a call comes in the phone returns to the correct brightness during the call, however when the phone call ends the phone goes back to it's lock state and when I unlock it, it's dim again and not at the right brightness.
It's driving me crazy cause i don't know when it's going to be the right brightness or when it's going to be dim. And i know that the auto-bright isn't working as i tried using my phone in the dark and that didn't seem to make it any bright.

I'm having the same issue with mine. I have to go into the brightness setting screen and mess with the brightness setting for the backlight to come back to the level I set.
I have had two iPhones and they have both done this. I also have the auto brightness setting turned off and am wondering if this has anything to do with it. I'm going to use my phone with the auto brightness on for new to see if it fixes it.
Let me know if you find a fix.

SES reversal and related issue

Hello,
ECC 6.0. Here is my situation. Please help!
-We have a service PO for $1000. (Commitment $1000 was created)
-We did a service entry sheet for $1000. (Commitment for $1000 was reduced.)
-GR document got created automatically for $1000.
-Did invoice for $500.
Now i wanted to reverse everything---since i wanted to enter the SES for $500.
-Therefore, i reversed invoice.
-Then i went in and reversed service entry sheet for the entire amount ($1000)
-The GR document got reversed for just $500.WHY?
I need the entire $1000 to be eliminated from the GR document so that i can start from the beginning.
Please assist!!!

You are right, now im getting your results!
The reason is because of Gr Based IV. When you use GR based IV for services, and then you put partial amount in MIRO, the accounting entries get screwed up.
For example,
After Acceptance,
Debit Expense   1000
     Credit GR/IR       1000
Invoice Receipt,
Debit GR/IR        1000
      Credit Vendor     500
      Credit Expense   500
Now cancel Invoice Receipt,
Debit Vendor       500
        Credit GR/IR     500
If you count the math, the reversal didnt reverse everything properly, therefore its giving you the wrong account balance. In this case, theres still a balance:
Debit   GR/IR       500
         Credit Expense 500
This is why when you cancel acceptance, it is only reversing 500, because system assumes that you have done invoice for the other half.. well thats what i think.
To fix the issue, please go to vendor master (XK02) --> purchasing view, then tick on Service Based Inv. Ver.
By doing this, whenever you create Service PO, the Service Based Inv. will be automatically checked.
Difference when you check on Service Based Inv, during MIRO screen you can actually see the breakdown service lines. Without it, it will only appear as 1 line in MIRO eventhough you have 10 service lines.
Another thing, when you perform MIRO transaction with partial, please distribute the price and quantity proportionately.
E.g. if service is 10$ for 1 HR
and invoice is actually 5,
so in MIRO make it 5$ and 0.5 HR. (This is if you are expecting the balance service to be performed later).
If no services are to be performed later, reverse GR and then make the new GR = Inv.

Strange Vertical lines and pixelation issues with my Powerbook screen...Hel

I have got a problem with mt LCD screen which now permanently displays lines of "dead" pixels, but they can't be dead because they chaneg all the time. If I move a window, I get lots more, which are created by the edge of the window, like a ghosting? Does that make sense?
I have taken a screen grab, but not sure how to feature it in these forums. Anyone got any ideas or know about this problem?
I have had a similar problem with this and other laptops, but it has always been a temporary thing before, when I had overloaded the system or something, and I got 'ghosting' from the trailing edge of a window, but this is permanently there?

I have now attached a monitor to the PB, and it happens on the monitor too...maybe suggesting something wrong with the graphics card or logic board, rather than the screen itself. When I type this message, I get strange red 'ghosting' lines where the cursor moves across the page.It reminds me of the 'Etch-o-sketch' game, where you draw lines, and then wipe them off. I can move a window from left to right and get these ghosting lines. When I move the window back right to left, they erase the lines to the left of the window, but I get more to the trailing right edge of the window...i.e. on the right of the screen.
Scrolling also removes these pixels, but creates new ones elsewhere.
Any ideas?

IBook G3 Backlight and sleep issues

About a month ago, I woke my iBook up, and the backlight wasn't on, so I tryed restarting, turning the brightness up, ect. and it still doesn't work. But if I close the lid almoast all the way, the backlight lights up. Also it doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid anymore.
I know that it is either the LCD to Motherboard cable, or the Inverter.
Anyone know what is wrong and what part is bad?

Since the angle of the display is involved, it sounds like the backlight (inverter) cable is being pinched in the hinge.

Dominion Tech in Colchester, Vermont used to do the repair for $79.90, but I'm not sure if that price is still in effect. You could call and ask.

Dseditgroup or dscl and related issue ?'s

I have two user groups sitting in the Local Directory on my Mac OSX Snow Leopard Server, (Local/Default/) and I would like to use terminal commands to make one group a sub group of the other.
I think the best way to do this is either via dscl or by dseditgroup, but I can't find any information on how to do this via dscl, and the command I have been trying to use in dseditgroup gives me an error.
I have been trying: "sudo dseditgroup -n /Local/Default -a Subgroup -t group MainGroup" where Subgroup is the group I want as part of the Larger group MainGroup. I get the error: Group Not Found.
Am I missing a part of the command line, or is there an easier way to do this via terminal?

I figured out what was going on in my last post and and fixed my issue, but now have a different question along the same lines.
Once a group is created, how does one go about assigning a home folder to that group via terminal?

Analysis Authorization and relates issue

Hello all,
I am in the midst of designing authorizations using RSECADMIN transaction.
We have a set of 50 different queries.
In our cube, there are 5 different characteristics, which are authorization relevent.
So, in RSECADMIN, i have created one analysis auth role, included all special and authorization relevent characteristics and maintained the appropriate values.
But when i execute the queries,the desired output is not coming.
- Do i need to create authorization varaibles and included in all my queries ?
- Without including the auth.variabes in queries, is there any other way to restrict the users ?
I though, by assigning the parameters in RSECADMIN, the query will automatically filter the data.
Can you pls help ?

First of all, The query is always based on a InfoCube. Now, you have 50 different Queries which is based on this InfoCube if I am not wrong as you are not getting any authorization error.
For a query to run, the user should have access to 1. Query, 2. Infocube and 3. Data(All Auth Relevant + 4 Special Objects)
Authorization relevant objects are for an InfoCube which means that these objects are important or key fields for the infocube.
You say that in your case, you have 5 Auth relevant objects which means they are important. But please note that there are more infoObjects in that InfoCube.
Now, when you go to the query design, you can restrict on any object in the InfoCube but it makes more sense that you do it on one of those authorization relevant objects as you have to specify that in the Analysis Authorization where the system can pick up the data easily and give the output.
Again, on the query design, if you have designed the query with processing type "Authorization", then it would automatically pick up (What you mentioned as automatic filtering) the value from the Analysis Authorization which is contained in the user's role for that query which otherwise gives a wide variety of options to chose from where the user has to choose the correct one.
To get the desired output, all the correct variables should be included in the query and user should have access to all the three mentioned above.
May be this gives a clear picture.

NB200-125 General Hardware ( Screen and HD ) issues

My wife's NB200-125 is about 18 months old and has in the last few weeks be exhibiting some strange problems. It started out with a boot failier where windows XP failed to boot, having tried to boot in both normal mode and safe mode a few times I tried plugging it in to make sure it wasn't a battery issue, plugging it in helped and I managed to get it booted and ran chkdisk which found a bunch of Hard drive errors which it fixed and it's now booting ok, a few files were lost but that could just be chkdisk deleting HD sectors.
Now in the last 2 days there have been 2 occasions where the screen has gone "blank" firstly to a black screen, and then the second time to a green screen.
Does anyone have any pointers as to where to look to fix it? I thought a HD change would sort it until these screen errors.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Of course these problems can be hardware related but before you ask an authorized service provider you should try a recovery installation to factory settings. Maybe Windows was muddled up due to the previous issues so a reinstallation would help.
So take the recovery medium and boot from it. Follow the screen instructions and restore out of box settings.
If still doesnt help its really hardware related issue and it can be fixed from an authorized service provider.

Start-up grey screen lock and waking issues

Hello, I've been having several problems with my iMac G5 that seemed to all start at the same time just in this last week:
1/ Trouble starting computer - during start up the usual tone is heard, then a grey screen appears and the start up process stops. I am forced to restart and try again. After several attempts the computer makes it to the grey apple logo and it finally starts up. The computer works perfectly once it is finally on all of the way - except for the following sleep thing . . .
2/ computer won't start up again after sleeping - EITHER screen remains black and fan noise is heard, OR screen image comes back but then distorts slightly, a dark gray washes over it, and a restart notice appears (also distorted).
I have tried the follwing techniques to fix the problems:
- Disc Utility check: everything fine
- Hardware Test from disk: everything fine
- Re-set PRAM
- Tried starting holding down Option Key - had to shut down after endless wait
- Looked for new firmware - what I found didn't help
- Removed new Software - no change
- Tested with various peripherals disconnected - no dice
I have NOT tried Safe Boot - safe mode would turn off many of the functions I use most.
I'm not sure what else I can do. I am, of course, aware of the "Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" but as I live in Japan, outside Tokyo, it is going to be a long haul to get my computer in to be looked at.
Could this be fixed any other way by me? Or does this sound like a classic "G5 power/video issue" and I should just bite it and take it in?

Hi Corrie, welcome to Discussions. Unfortunately I think you hit the nail right on the head. I would find a way to get this done with extension program because paying to fix it maybe cost inhibitive. (could you ship it to a friend or relative in the USA and have them take it in)???

Flash menu screen and related .swf "blank"?

Unable to always obtain Flash menu screen (and related .swf file). This is really odd! On some rare occassions it is possible to successfully create flash output but most times not. As the number of successes are rare, I can't analyse & determine what is going on (output to DVD & Blu-ray is fine but can't get flash)??

That sounds a little severe. Have you made any changes at all to your Mac - changed graphics cards or anything? Also, do you use a font management app like suitcase? If you do, have you turned off any of the fonts DVDSP uses as part of the system? I know it sounds odd, but this has caused all kinds of issues for people in the past and the only resolution was to turn on the system fonts again.
Have you run a hardware test (using the Apple hardware check disc that your mac came with)? I am no expert on any of this stuff, but check your graphics card... I had one with bad memory and many, many glitches started to appear which just got worse over time. Changed the graphics card and all was fine.

Dust between backlight and screen

After talking to a friend who had similar issues it turns out that what I thought were dead pixels are in fact tiny patches of dust/debris between the backlight and the screen. How they suddenly appeared (particularly a new one recently in the centre of the screen) is a mystery, but I definitely believe the diagnosis to be correct - the little dots are grey not black, and they are not square and well defined in the way dead pixels are.
I know that replacing a screen/backlight in a PowerBook is exceptionally difficult, but as in this case nothing would actually need to be removed or replaced, would it be possible to separate the two to clean away this dust?

That sounds about right. If they look similar to dead pixels but more grey and ill-defined then it seems likely you've got the same problem.
My final solution was... to give up sell the PowerBook to my dad. Bought a new MacBook instead. Shame, because I was hoping to get a bit more use out of it before I upgraded, but there you go.

Control center and camera not working on lock screen

On the lock screen my control center or camera sometimes doesn't pull up! Also the touchscreen doesn't work sometimes while just using the phone like when typing or in a game. I've tried resetting it and restarting it! Is this a software bug? Will there be an update To fix this?

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the touchscreen does not respond sometimes and control center doesn't come up. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.
