  • Backlight broken on Muvo S

    Hi All,
The backlight doesn't work on my Muvo Slim. This is my 2nd one, the first one's backlight also didn't work
On both of them, I upgraded to the latest firmware (..03) so that I could format with FAT32 and enable cue\review, however, I think that the firmware may have damaged the backlight.
I emailed tech support, and they say that the firmware would not have damaged the backlight, and to return the player. I have a hard time believing that I got 2 defecti've Muvo Slims, that both lost their backlighting after I installed the firmware.
So, anybody else experience this too? Are there any fixes?
I would like to try re-loading the firmware that it came with to see if that helps, but it's not available on the website.
Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong? ( not to state the obvious, but the backlighting IS NOT OFF, it's on 5 sec)
    Thanks.
EDIT: OK, I downloaded the UK firmware, which has the same version number, but the .exe's filename had a - at the end. Don't know if they are the same. Anyway, after the firmware updated, I unplugged the player from the PC, and it turned on by itslef (like usual) and the backlight wasn't on. I went to the menu, turned it off, and shut the player off. I then turned the player back on, went to the menu and turned the backlight back on, and IT WORKS!!!Message Edited by saber_pv on 04-23-2005 07:53 PM

I don't think you can. You can only skip by track. I'm not sure if there's a skip folder function on the Slim, but the manual should confirm either way.

  • Keyboard backlight broken

My keyboard refuses to light up, it seemes to just stop working. All other function keys work on the top of the keyboard, except f8, f9, and f10 which controls the backlight....no response at all. Cannot find any help through the preference folder...can anyone HELP?

i'd recommend reseting your Power manager to see if this will fix it.. i've had some weirdnesses on mmy backlight on occasion..
to reset power manager, shut downn, then hold SHIFTCTRLOPT, and hit the Power button.. this resets the manager..
i generally go direclty to OpenFirmware from there, to reset it as well.. dunno if that helps, but that way I KNOW it's all reset...

  • X61 won't boot, "screaming" LCD

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad x61 tablet which had a faulty motherboard. I found a new one and tried installing it- the problem is that at the beginning, it was giving signs of working- it gave me the 1-3-3-1 beep code message and after installing RAM, it was fine. The problem was that couple of years ago it had its backlight broken and I replaced it with the backlight from a x61s- the laptop had worked before dying, so I've never considered this a problem. But after testing it several times, now eveery time I try turning on the computer, no matter if there's a battery or it's just plugged in, there are no LED indications, but it turns on when I use the LCD assembly power button. Once it turns on (I can hear the fan and the HDD spinning), the power LED starts blinking green and when the LCD is connected, the circuitry on the LCD itself starts making that weird noise. I tried reconnecting it,  but no difference. I tried removing the RAM in order to see if I've done something wrong and fried the new motherboard, too (even though I can't think of something I might've done for this to happen), but it gives me the 1-3-3-1 beep code message again qith the power indicator blinking (only). At the beginning, I tried connecting the LCD several times and it showed horizontal and vertical lines, the backlight was working, but back then, all the indicators were still working...sometimes, it would give me 2 beeps, but I managed to fix that somehow. Now, no matter if the LCD is connected or not, it just keeps the fan and HDD spinning with the power indicator blinking, no beeps or signals (unless I detach the RAM) and that's all it does...Is there a way to make it all work again?

Update: Some time after it gives me the two short beeps, pressing some/all of the keyboard buttons makes it beep. An exception is the Esc button, which makes the HDD run slower...Also, if I press Fn+F7, the monitor will stop.start hissing...

  • Backlight Macbook pro 13 2011 broken

I finished working on my Macbook pro 13 inch late 2011, and closed the lid.
After 1-2 hours i wanted to browse the internet, when i opened the macbook the screen did not turn on!
The keyboard backlight goes on, but the screen does not turn on. I saw things on the screen, so i pointed a flashlight at it, and the screen is not broken, but the backlight is. Everything else works just fine.
    Is this a known problem?
I will call Apple tomorrow and hope it will be repaired ( i have an applecare protection plan ).
Are there anymore things i can try to get it fixed myself? Tried to reboot it, let it shut down and power it on again after 15 minutes, but it did not work.

    Greetings,
Try the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1126
On a side note, WEP encryption is highly insecure.  It does very little beyond keeping everyday people from connecting.  If you want actual, reliable encryption that is more compatible with your Mac (not to mention secure) use WPA or WPA 2.
    Hope that helps.

  • Canon PowerShot SD750 broken backlight

Hi! I have a Canon PowerShot SD750. Everything about the camera works fine, but when i turn the camera on you can see the shadows of the objects in the display screen but it doesn't light up. It seems as though the backlight is broken. Is that something that can be fixed? If so do you know how much that would cost? or is it a lost cause? Thanks!

    Hello,
I checked out the Canon website (http://www.canonusa.com) and looked up your camera model. On that page, I clicked Service and Support, which provided the option to search their knowledge base. I did a search on back light - one of the results was about the LCD not displaying images. Basically, the response to that issue is that camera service is required. There is no indication of cost to repair, but I'm guessing that it would be more economical to just live with the defect or to buy a new camera.
Here is a link to the service/support page for your camera model:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd750#S...
Just search on "back light" and you'll find the info I found.
I wish I had better news!

  • Broken Backlight, reactivated with a push to the screen.

After a speedy replacement of my old nano (half a broken screen); I received what looks like a brand new nano. Unfortunately, after taking the nano of hold the backlight didn't come on. I checked all the settings and was able to play songs. I decided to gently push the screen and was surprised to see the backlight come on as if the screen was a button itself. It has continued to do this all day. Once the backlight dims to the dark screen the only way to revive the backlight is to push the screen itself...
I'm guessing this isn’t normal but I thought I'd ask before I requested for another one.
    Thanks

    Go to settings-->backlight-->always on.
    Does it turn on?
If not, then you will need to get it serviced
But no, that is not normal.

  • Broken Backlight, iPod Touch 2nd Gen

So the backlight on my 2nd gen iTouch went out, the digitizer is in good shape, but the backlight is broken. The problems arose after it fell from about 7 feet up onto carpet, but hitting the wall. I used to be able to get it working by locking/unlocking the screen quickly, but after working for about 6 weeks, the backlight finally died.

Try replacing it yourself. You can buy a kit with the tools for under 20.00 on eBay. There are YouTube videos yo walk you through it too.

  • Broken backlight - any repair guides out there?

Hi. Backlight is broken on my 12" G4 Powerbook. I can barely make out what's on the screen, but it appears fully functional.
What to do? I found that it can be the display inverter, and found a such on pbfixit.com. Can it be anything else?
I'll try and repair it myself, so if anyone have experience in doing so, I'd like to hear about it. I guess that I'll have to remove the LCD from the powerbook, and then open the LCD and replace the display inverter - but I'm just guessing and would like confirmation.
Getting it repaired at an Apple shop is not an option, too pricy and I expect new Intel Pb's to be around the corner.
    Any tips greatly appreciated.
    Morten

I think this is what you need: http://www.pbparts.com/shop/a123i.html
It bothers me, that I have not been able to find confirmation that the above part is different from the one used in my (1GHz) 12" Powerbook - http://www.pbparts.com/shop/a12di.html
If they're the same for the 1GHz, 1.33GHz and 1.5GHz models, you don't risk anything buy buying one off of ebay for $50 less. For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Backlight-Inverter-for-Aluminum-12-Powerbook_W0QQitemZ58 64981242QQcategoryZ14909QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I've tried getting in contact with the seller on what model the inverter is for, but reply. I'll buy one from pbparts.com.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhone 5c... broken??? Home screen won't show up and backlight won't turn off, vibrates constantly

So... as the title suggests, my iPhone 5c is acting up. I can't get the home screen to come on, but the backlight never turns off. People have suggested turning it off then back on, but because I can't see the home screen, the fact that I can't turn it off is most likely half the problem. On top of that, it is vibrating constantly, and I don't know if that's because I'm receiving messages (which is unlikely) or if it's just really broken... I recently downloaded iOS 8, but I haven't really had any problems with it. Pleaseeee helpppp

Yes, as rbrylawski stated, the toilet/water has finally finished off your phone. While it may have survived for a while, corrosion has done its evil job and killed your device. If you have Apple Care Plus, then you can get an out of warranty replacement for just the deductible. If not, then an out of warranty replacement will be a little more.

  • [SOLVED] Broken backlight brightness adjustment on x220 after recent-

    Hi.
I'm no longer able to adjust backlight brightness with hotkeys and xbacklight.
I believe issue appeared after update to linux-3.16.
Brightness adjustment keys are detected correctly in xev.
Echoing brightness value to /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness does adjust brightness.
But xbacklight and hotkeys won't do a thing.
I already tried some magic I don't understand: acpi_backlight=vendor and acpi_osi=linux. No luck here.
Anyone else with the same issue? Are there any fixes for this?
    Thanks in advance.

I saw a brief mention in the arch wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Backlight
that says the kernel parameter: video.use_native_backlight=1 is now default in 3.16,
so I added video.use_native_backlight=0 to my kernel parameters and my backlight functionality is back.
awesome thx, worked for me as well. I used the -u option of efibootmgr
    efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -L Gentoo3.16.3-rev1 -l "\efi\boot\kernel_3.16.3-rev1.efi" -u "video.use_native_backlight=0"

  • Backlight on iphone 3gs broken, need advice...

I have had a iphone 3gs for the past two years, I got it in the summer of 2010. It is in relatively good condition considering it's age (a few scratches on the front screen) other than that it has been protected by a case and has never been damanged. Recently my phone ran out of battery and I charged the iphone but when it turned on I noticed that the screen was dramatically duller than usual and that the backlight on the screen was not lighting up. The screen is visible and the phone is still useable but very hard to sue due to the darkness of the screen. The phone is a year out of warranty but would this be something apple would fix and if so does anyone know for how much? If I had to get this fixed independently does anyone know any companies in the UK i could send it to to be fixed and again what would be a reasonable price to expect to have this fixed/replaced for?

its 149$ usd for apple to fix it out of warranty idk how much that makes it in the uk

  • I have a 5C, the screen broken it only shows the backlight. Problem is its locked in airplane mode any ideas on how to get it out?

Phone is locked in Airplane mode, Is there a way to get it out without having to use the touch screen because it is broken.

No. That is a software switch, and could only be activated/deactivated from the screen. I suggest you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store to see about getting the device repaired. Many of the Apple Stores are now equipped to repair/replace screens in house. I had one replaced today for my daughter's iPhone 5c in the US and the cost was $129.00 plus tax.

  • Broken backlight brightness control

Is there a way to address this issue in Archlinux?
Brightness control keys were not working in GNOME, even with the kernel boot parameter acpi_backlight=vendor.

  • Broken backlight on iphone 4

hi the backlight on my iphone 4 has stopped working; the phone itself is fine but obviously very difficult to use without backlight - any ideas on how to fix this?
i have tried adjusting brightness; and resetting the phone
it came into contact with a small amount of water during the week but nothing substantial  and to justify this behaviour however i cant get the back light to work

Any amount of water in contact with an electronic device is substantial. Sounds like it shorted out your backlight. You will need to get it serviced.
