Backlight comes on by itself?

I will be sitting at my desk, phone off and not in use just laying there. The phone will light up for no reason at all as if I am receiving a call, yet there is nothing on the screen. It doesn't happen all that often, but it is strange. Anyone else run into this issue?

You could always try a simple reset of the iPhone... this resolves most oddities with it, and is a good thing to do with any GSM phone from time to time. Just hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for about 10 seconds, until the device displays an Apple logo.

my iphone 5 on the ios 7.1.2 suddenly wont fully turn on...it gets stuck on the apple logo and stays like that for approximately to 90 secs then goes blank but I can see a bit of lighting  behind the dark screen....it goes off by itself and comes on by itself trying to boot but still gets stuck on the apple logo after the dim light shows....when I connect to iTunes my phone can only be recognised only in recovery mode thus if I force it into recovery mode. My main worry is I don't have a back up of any of my data...on icloud I have just less than 2GB of my data which is as a result of incomplete back up...HOW CAN I GET THIS PHONE WORKING AGAIN WITHOUT LOSING MY DATA...if I can only just recover my data I would really appreciate it as I really  need almost everything on it back...if I can only get retrieve my data and lose the phone I wouldn't mind at all....Anybody know how to resolve this??Kind Regards

Anyone have any suggestions? or is everyone else just as clueless as me !

My phone is not jailbroken.  I don't know what you mean about hacked.   Maybe it is hacked?   This is what is happening: About three times over the past few months I've noticed that my phone while "off" will come on (light up) and the screen shows an arrow towards the bottom; an arrow such that you would see on various "players" in order to "play" video or audio, I've searched my phone and cannot find any app that produces this particular screen though. Once I pick up the phone when this screen myseriously appears out of nowhere and press anything, it goes away and goes to the standard "slider" front page to unlock the phone.

  • My mini comes on by itself and skips

My ipod mini suddenly started coming on by itself at random times. Also, when playing, it will sometimes start ten seconds into the song, or skip 25 seconds in the middle of the song, or just shuffle to another song while it's in the middle of playing another. I've done a reset and it helped some....it hasn't come on by itself lately but it is still skipping. And of course my warranty expires in two more days.

"My ipod mini suddenly started coming on by itself at random times"
You most likely have an alarm set.
To check go to extras/clock/alarm and set it to off. Check the calendar also, extras/calendar/alarm.
For the skipping issue, try this.

  • Backlight comes on, but nuffin else.

Basically only the backlight comes on , Not writing at all comes up . I have done EVERYTHING in help section .. restored / reset 10x . updated. 5 r's . everything else.
I can plug it in , it recognises , plays music , but all i can see is the backlight ( NO writing or anything )

I can sympathize because I'm going through a similar problem. The only difference is that mine plays as long as it's hooked to the computer. About three to five minutes after it's disconnected I get nothing. Not even the backlight. Sad.

If you're not running iOS 8 as you describe you are not, and Siri keeps coming on, this could be a hardware failure of the Home Button.
    Try these steps:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6 older, hold down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • MBP - Power-up Backlight comes on ...thats it and freezes

I have an early 2008 MBP 15-inch. Warranty ran out 2 weeks ago (had it 13 months...). It powers up, makes normal noise, backlight comes on and thats it. It seems to freeze. Tried booting into diags and booting off CD but no luck. When I hold 'T' down I do see the firewire icon but thats it.
Graphics chip problem? Firmware hosed? System board?
    Anyone encounter this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you realize you could have purchased AppleCare up to two weeks ago?
That would have extended your warranty another two years.

  • Keyboard backlight comes on in landscape mode no m...

I have an N97 and whenever the phone is in landscape mode the keyboard backlight comes on. It doesn’t matter if the phone is open or closed. This problem has been with us for a long time & obviously drains the battery quicker. Also when we watch movies on the device the Keyboard backlight stays on & its rather annoying.  I would like to know if their are any remedies for this that I may not be aware of or how long we need to wait for a fix?
Also, the FM Transmitter Nag screens are very annoying. Most of us use the fm transmitter in our cars to stream MP3s to our head units. So 1 tap access is paramount.  As things stand now its way too complicated to turn on the FM tuner and access our libraries. Furthermore the player keeps loosing its place so we are constantly having to:
    1st.Tap the music player widget
2nd. tap the music library, choose last played (which never works!), Music library, music store or radio (99.9999999999% of the time I choose *library*).
3rd. Select either artist, albums, play list, all songs,  pod casts, Gender or composer (I almost always choose *all songs*).
4th. now we see our selection and pick a song.
The Problem is many people do this while driving and even though some smart a** will pop up and say (you should never operate your phone while driving) I say “Of course I try to activate it before I drive But there is the occasional time I forget and It would be nice if you guys made My very expensive N series device act the part". I don’t think I’m asking for to much here. Just a small effort towards making the device function properly and more safely Is all I’m asking. Or Is that too much?
It would be nice if you guys made the Phone:
1.Stop loosing my Place. Every time I go to play a song I need to find a song.
    2. Make the current play list accessible by tapping the album art like it was before instead of taking me to the volume.
    3. Make it so that the  FM transmitter can be turned on or off from the now playing  window without popping into the fm tuner app or having to confirm that its activated or deactivated.
A simple on off will do & likely save lives & you guys from lawsuits.
Remember Nokia, your own words say that the N97 is not a smart phone. “It’s a *mobile* computer.” & the N designation makes it a mobile multimedia computer. A lawyer would have a field day with this.

Just what I expected . Not a single **bleep**ing responce. Nokia you are pathetic.

  • Apple TV comes on by itself and light constantly on

My Apple TV device when I turn it off after a few hours comes on by itself. Well the white light on the front of it does lighting up the whole room not fun when your trying to sleep. So I've resulted to placing a small piece of tape over it. Is there any way to perminetly turn the light off or prevent the device from turning itself on?
I have the latest updates installed on it.

It isn't necessarily turning itself on, the light also indicates activity on either the network or HDMI connection, so covering the light may be all you can do other than unplugging it.

  • My 50L7300UC TV comes on by itself after I power it off. How can I fix this

I just received my TV this week.  After I power off the set, this TV comes on by itself (sometimes a few minutes after I shut it off or sometimes several hours after I shut it off).  I do not have it programmed to come on. Please help.

Perhaps it's due to HDMI-CEC. Look for any settings related to that and disable them.
That appears to be a Canadian model, and this is the Toshiba USA site. You may have better luck contacting Toshiba in your region.

  • Why won't my display backlight come on?

I have a unibody MacBook Pro purchased in late 2009.
Sometimes when I wake up my laptop I can see that the display has come on but the backlight that makes the display bright is not on.  On other words, the screen is completely dark, but under the right lighting I can see that the LCD itself is on (windows are up, the cursor is moving around the screen) but there is no light making it all bright (i.e., the display backlight is off).  When I put it to sleep and wait for the indicator light to start pulsing and then wake it up again it will off then come on, but of course I shouldn't have to do that.
Perhaps related or unrelated is my keyboard backlight also doesn't work.  I can turn the brightness up and down using the F5 and F6 keys and the indicator will come up on the screen showing the brightness going up and down, but the keys themselves are not lit at all.
Was there a recall sent out about this issue?  I do have AppleCare.
    Thanks.

I have the same thing, not only my current Retina MacBookPro (Mountain Lion) but on my previous 2008 MacBook black (Lion). I find it very odd that I'd have the exact same issue on two different computers; there must have been a setting on the old one that got migrated to the new one somehow?

  • Blank Screen backlight come on

Unit will play music, will sync, has backlight but no display of words or battery symbol. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Bad display?

Did you try resetting the iPod with the two-button combo?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If that does not help, you can try using the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize its software.
If Restore does not work, it may be a hardware problem with the display.

  • Why did my isight camera come on by itself

My isight camera came on by itself. I admit that skype was running, but I was not talking to anyone.
The next day the isight cameara came on for less than a second and went off.
    Why would this happen?

ArisB wrote: ... Why would this happen?
    Because either:
    (1) you (or someone else) have added software that turns the camera on and off automatically, or
    (2) something is wrong with your Mac's hardware or software.
If you did not do the first and have given others access to your Mac, you can eliminate (1).
Here is how I would work the second possibility:  Uninstall (follow Skype's uninstall instructions) Skype.  Then restart Mac, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, and then test your camera again. Follow the suggestions inApple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 article.
If the camera works correctly now, reinstall the latest Skype that is compatible with your Mac.  If the problem returns when you install Skype and goes away whenever you uninstall it, Skype must be causing a conflict that results in your camera's unexpected behavior.  Search or post in Skype's dedicated support pages for help for this Skype-specific problem.
If the problem continues even when Skype is properly uninstalled, post back with as much info as you can provide on the latest behavior.   Confirm that you have used the proper SMC/PMU reset from the Troubleshooting article, and tell us which (if any) apps and user accounts work properly and which do not.  We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

  • Monitor backlight comes on briefly, then blanks out

I'm using a COMPAC PRESARIO laptop that's running WINDOWS XP.  I've had the system 7 years & had a couple viruses that were supposedly cleaned up, but it was done by someone else so I'm not sure of this.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION & CORRECTION EFFORTS TO DATE:
When the computer is turned on the COMPAC logo comes up, but soon blanks out, though not thoroughly on occasion, just goes real dark, with images faintly visible.  Unfortunately, the behavior is not consistent, sometimes not lighting at all, other times as previously described, not visible at all, or visible up to WINDOWS logo page, then blank.  If power is disconnected for 48 hours or better it will sometimes remain visible for a period of time, so long as it doesn't enter hibernation mode, though that trick hasn't worked recently; then the above problems repeat.  I have connected a COMPAC FS7600 monitor to it to see if it is indeed a monitor problem, but that also blanks out after WINDOWS logo displays, prior to reaching log-in stage, the monitor power button going from the green it has while visible to the amber that signals a disconnect (I think).  I've been forced to do hard shutdowns repeatedly, resulting in the "Windows encountered a problem with the last start-up" & have tried the "last working configuration" option, but that hasn't helped, so I'm at a loss on what to try next.
One of the answers here indicated the backlight could be replaced.  If so, how would I go about that if it comes to that?
I am a freelance illustrator & writer, whose work & income depend on a working system, so I'm currently unable to produce the products clients desire; as such, this problem is imperative to correct.  Any & all assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hello @darenderer ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with the display on your notebook going blank.
If the issue persists on an external monitor chances are the issue is not hardware related, though when it goes dim and is barely visible that does sound like a bad backlight which is kind of strange.
We can test this by trying to load the BIOS. If the BIOS loads and displays properly this would tell us the hardware is OK. To access the BIOS tap F10 while the notebook boots up. If this is displaying OK you may need to restore the default BIOS settings which is usually done with F9 while in the BIOS. You should see the keyboard shortcut in the bottom right corner of the screen to confirm this shortcut.
If the BIOS does not display you could be looking at a hardware issue. The issue being intermittent like this might suggest a bad connection to the backlight or display. You can see how to remove and reconnect these connections in the Maintenance and Service guide available in the User Guides section of your products support page here: HP - Drivers & Downloads.
It would help to know which product and operating system you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?
