Backlight does not turn on anymore Satellite M70-147

Hello outhere,
The backlight of my M-series M70-147 does not turn on anymore.
I first noticed this when awakening the laptop from standby or hibernation mode.
At first I thought the screen was not working anymore, but when I looked closely I could still make out the icons on the desktop vaguely. So at first I rebooted the laptop and then most of the times the backlight would turn on and stay on.
But now it does not do that anymore, not even when I close the screen (to force standby mode) and then open it again, the backlight won't turn on.
I also looked at other forums and topics what the cause might be, a broken backlight or a faulty power inverter.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with the graphics card because when I hooked on my laptop to my dads LCD monitor it just displayed the desktop of my laptop on the LCD monitor. Also the first time I did this after pressing Fn-F5 a few times the screen of my laptop would come on some times. But now it does not do that anymore.
So can anybody with the symptons described tell me what the cause might be?
Many thanks.

For me it looks like a faulty FL inverter.
The FL inverter is a small part behind the display frame and it controls the backlight.
Usually the external display should work properly because the FL inverter affects the internal display only...
However, the issue can be solved only by replacement of this part.
I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP in your country to get this part replaced

from the information you provided i can't tell if it is a hardware problem or a software problem. I do have an idea though, try to press your home button and lock button at the same time.

  • I just began using my Apple iphone4 and I dont know why the backlight does not turn-off timer does not exist anywhere that I can find. So my battery gets drained when I'm not using my phone. Does anyone know how to adjust it?

It's called "auto-lock" - adjust the time in the Settings app to a lower amount.

  • My ipod's backlight will not turn on anymore.

does anyone know how i can get this fixed. it happened about a year ago and i continue to struggle reading my screen. if anyone can help id appreciate it greatly.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iphone 4 does not turn on anymore and its been plugged in for more than one hour

if you tried charging and the reset sounds like it needs to be repair/replaced

  • Keyboard backlight does not turn off while watching video

I just discovered this issue on my new macbook air (haswell). I also found a thread on it here from back in 2009, apparently it's been an issue for 4 years!!!???
In that thread people noted that if the backlight is set to anyhing more than 5 seconds, the backlight won't turn off while watching a video, but at 5 seconds, turns off fine as it should.
Anyone have any ideas? Just seems like it needs to be taken seriously by Apple and fixed in a future OSX update.

  • NB500 does not turn on anymore

    Hi everyone,
So, 2 days ago i was in the middle of using my NB500 and suddenly the laptop turned off automatically. I tried turning it back on but it won't turn back on.
So here's what i've tried to fixed the problem:
    - I've tried taking the battery out, while leaving the re-charger plugged into the laptop and tried turning it on but it won't turn on.
    - I've tried taking the battery out and unplugging the re-charger from the laptop and holding down on the power button for 30 seconds then plugging back the re-charger and tried turning it on but it won't turn on.
Here's what i noticed about the laptop after this problem has occured.
-When i have the re-charger plugged in, the light which lights up orange when the re-charger is plugged charging the laptop isn't lighting up anymore when i have the re-charge plugged in. So this might indicate with the re-charger is broken or it's the laptop. But it's likely to be the laptop because when i was last using it with charger plugged into the laptop , the laptop suddenly shut down for no reason. So it can' tbe the fact that the laptop is out of battery.
-When every time i hold down the power button for 5 seconds with the battery still in the laptop then let go of the power button, the green light which lights up when the laptop is on does a quick flash.
So, if anyone knows how to solve this problem please help me out.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. We can just speculate about the problem and this hardware related issue.
I cannot say for sure but for me it sounds like power supply electronic problem (mainboard).
I’m afraid you will not be able to solve this issue alone. Contact nearest Toshiba service, explain the situation and ask for help.

  • HP Pavillion 17 - Screen backlight does not turn off after shut down

The screen stays lit up white after shutdown is complete.  No lights appear on the power button or any of the keys.  Just a white screen.  Any ideas what could cause this?  Laptop works perfectly when powered on.  Thanks, Susan

    Hi @suzygf78,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your display is still after your computer is shutdown?! I am happy to help you with this. It would be best to get the full product number and OS version. Please read the following documents if you need help in finding those.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Is the display you are describing the built in display or an attached 2nd display?
As a start here are a few documents to start with that may help, but if it is the built in display I admit I am scratching my head a bit as it is a very weird issue.

Resolving Problems with the Brightness of the Display
Diagnosing a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for Damage
Please let me know if any of those proved helpful, or post the requested information and we will go from there.

  • My ipod nano 7th gen does not turn on and is not recognized by my pc

Don't know why my ipod does not turn on anymore. I only had it for 2 weeks. It also is not recognized on my pc or itunes when I plug it in with my USB.

How long have you left the iPod to charge?  It can take up to 30 minutes for the iPod to power on or show any signs of life.  How long did you press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons to reset the iPod?
It might not to also make use of another USB sync cable if you have one laying around to rule out the possibility of a faulty/damaged cable.

  • Screen does not turn off near my ear

The screen backlight does not turn off when you place it near your ear. Anyone else have this problem?

What I found, especially with my Boxwave case (that iLounge didn't give high marks for), was that if you hold the earhole up directly to your ear, the screen does turn off.
I checked and rechecked it in the mirror, and if I deviate a few cm higher or lower, then no, it won't. But if it's right up to my ear, then it does.
By the way, I love the Boxwave case. The leather foldover protects the screen when sitting in my brief case.

  • IPad does not turn off

    This is very odd.
I need to use my iPad with Keynote and a projector. I have done this before by turning the iPad off (hold down the top button until the "Slide to turn off" appears but suddenly the darn thing does not turn off.
It LOOKS like it is turning off - I slide the red slider and get a spinning ball for a brief time, but if I plug in or just hit the bottom switch, bingo, it pops back on instantly.
My first thought was maybe I'm just not giving it enough time, but no, I gave it fifteen minutes and it still was not really off.
Now - I just tried it again and of course it worked, making a liar out of me
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong somehow?

  • Msi gs 70 backlight on the keyboard not turning on anymore

i have had my gs70 for about a month now, and all is working fine (other than the windows 8.1 bs with the mouse pad) until i pressed the function key with the + and/or the - key(s) by the number pad on the right of the keyboard. the backlight of the keyboard now does not turn on. even when the computer starts back up it doesn't even turn on for that slight moment as the computer starts up.  so... anyone who has some sort of solution other than reseting the whole computer, experience with this bug/glitch/pain give me suggestions cheers

With the GS series of laptops, there is no removable battery.
Therefore you need to remove the AC adapter, and push a button with a pin/paperclip on the side of the laptop and hold it in for approximately 10 seconds I believe. Then apply AC and turn the laptop on. That should do it, hopefully.
If that didn't fix it, hmmm.....
The next thing I might suggest looking at is inside the BIOS. I'm not 100% sure with the GS70, but there might be a setting in there that enables/disables the backlight. Could you check in there?
