Backlight keyboard on MacBook 2,0 GHz possible?

Hello everyone!
I need to go to an apple service point because of my leaning F-Key and I just asked myself if it would be possible, to add the backlight to the keyboard ?
What do you think?
Actually, I thought I wouldn´t need it but after working some houres on my gf´s MacBook (with backlight KB), I really DO want it
cheers
romano

Well, to be honest, nothing is impossible.
Whether you pay apple a crazy amount of money to do it for you,
or you pay a crazy amount of money for a third party to it for you...
At the end of the day it will not be worth getting into.
You really should have purchased the 2.4ghz sorry

  • MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 Backlight Keyboard Not Working?! Software Problem...

So my "MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011" backlight keyboard hasn't been working. I have tried LabTick today, doesn't fix anything. Even in high or low lighting situations (dispite the Adjust keyboard brightness in low light being off) doesn't like to go on. It doesn't give me a circle with a cross like it does with that box checked in day light. It shows on the screen the
16 dots fully light after hitting F6 fully, just it doesn't light up. I one time had to reset my Mac OS at the Apple Store, it fixed the problem, but when I restored with a time machine backup, it went back to this software problem. How can I fix this?! What is wrong with my OS? Mountain Lion? How can I fix this?!

If it does not detect the display automatically, try going to system preferences>displays, click detect displays.

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) backlight keyboard not functioning properly?

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and for some reason, the automatic backlight keyboard will not funtion as it should. When I have the "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" option enabled in settings, and I turn on the lights, my backlight keyboard stays at full brightness. Then, when I turn off the keyboard, then the lights, the keyboard does not turn on! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that this was a feature in the MBP lines.

Try a SMC reset.   Shut down the computer. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time. Press the power button to turn on the computer.   Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Is it possible to upgrade a macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo to OSX 10.8.5?

I have an old mackbook, approx 2007 era. Is it possible to upgrade a macbook 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo to OSX 10.8.5?

You can only upgrade to 10.7 Lion. Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You will have to be at 10.6.8 first.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then use the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

Try resetting the PRAM. Shutdown the computer, with your left hand hold down the option+command keys. Power the computer on and immediately wiht your right hand hold down the P key wiht your little finger and with your index finger hold down the R key, wait until your hear the Apple chime twice release al keys and let the machine bootup. If that doesn't work I would suggest taking the computer to an Apple store ASAP and have a Genius address the issue. Hope this helps!

I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my MacBook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  It is currently up to date with Microsoft updates.  I am running Mac OS 10.6.8.  I just updated my Mac software with "Security Update 2012-001".  I am now unable to print (Epson NX510 printer) from Excel or Word.  When I click on the Print menu item in Excel, there is a flash in the background like it is trying to open the print window, but nothing else.  I am able to print from other programs like TextEdit, Mail or KakeidaGraph.  As far as I know I have the latest Epson print driver.
Also, I am also unable to open an existing Excel or Word file from the open menu - both programs lock up and do not respond.  I have to force quit.  After I restart Excel or Word I can open an existing file by double clicking on the file, but if I again try to open another file from the open menu, Excel or Word lock up.
    Any similar problems?

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • Optimal OS for MacBook 2.3 GHz?

Which is the optimal OS for a MacBook 2.3 Ghz, 2 GB RAM ?
I'm running Lion now, but it's taking too much of RAM ans processor ressources. I don't need the MacBook for daily work any more, just for playing music, so I could downgrade to the OS that offers as much as possible for such a machine without slowing it down too much. I ran Leopard and Snow Leopard before, but the loss of speed was so gradual that I can't tell when it became annoying (until Lion).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks a lot!

On an intel mac, Snow Leopard. Leopard is best for the last generation of PPC macs, 2004- early-mid 2006 series, late G4 and G5 series.
Nevertheless, I wonder why you dislike Lion. I installed it on a 2006, first core 2 duo, series and was as fast as SL, now is running on 3 macs around, including indeed a recent mini with Lion preinstalled. In the overwhelming majority of situations, slow behavior of Lion or frequent crashes/freezing etc. is/are due to older, incompatible apps, often utilitites startin up at log-in. I make this note because Apple is not going on to support older systems, including SL. But, of course, if you feel better with SL, downgrade.
One more note: Mail.app folders, if any, cannot be downgraded into SL or earliers systems, you must use an export feature and reimport or use MailStteward.

  • 2009 MBP Backlight keyboard

Friends computer. When I try to illuminate the keyboard it shows a symbol of a circle with a line thru it and the keyboard stays dark. why

It's possible there are dust bunnies caught under the keys.  You can try a can of compressed air or a vacuum hose to remove the dirt.  Or try the suggestions mentioned = Do-It-Yourself Laptop Repair

Or it could be a hardware issue.  If so, your friend should call Apple Care if they have it.  Otherwise, your friend should take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.

  • Replace powerbook G4, 1.5GHz, 15inch with Macbook 2.0 GHz?

    Hi folks,
I'm actually thinking to replace my powerbook G4, 1.5ghz, 15inch,1GB Ram with a macbook 2.0ghz, 1GB Ram. Do you guys think it's a good idea? I don't mind the smaller screen and the less luxury enclosure. What about the difference in performance between the two? And yes, I don't have the money for a macbook pro.
    Powerbook G4, 1.5Ghz, 15inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm using a Macbook right now and I've upgraded from a Powerbook G4 15". I was initially concerned about two things: 1) Display resolution and 2) My ability to use an external monitor.
I have not been disappointed. The Macbook's resolution is very nearly as good as the Powerbook's was, but the screen is so much brighter and clearer that there is simply no contest. Moreover, this Macbook now lets me run an external display with a separate desktop area, which is something I loved about my older Powerbook and was lacking in the iBooks, the predecessor to the Macbook.
I feel the keyboard was better on the Powerbook, but I've adapted well to the Macbook's keyboard and am no longer bothered by it.
Performance wise, there is simply no contest. You will be BLOWN AWAY by the performance you get from a Macbook. But do yourself a favor - you MUST upgrade the RAM beyond the stock 512MB... 1 Gig is the minimum. I'm running 2 Gig and this is easily the fastest computer (desktop or laptop) I've ever owned.
Oh, and I bought the cheapest Macbook at $1099. Add $168 for the 2Gig of memory and you've got one powerful machine.
    I'm in love.

  • My mac pro backlight keyboard

    Dear team,
recently I face poblem with the backlight of keayboard.
the light not shining or lighting strong as before and some time its flashing go and come dont know why?
but If I blug the charge its become full light?
can you help me in this problem?

Wrong forum - this is for Mac Pro tower users who don't have the benefit of an Apple Backlighted Keyboard - I ended up picking up a Moshi Luna keyboard for $100 that does a great job of letting me work in the dark!
As for your Macbook Pro sounds like you need to go to the Apple store and schedule a keyboard replacement.  Zapping PRAM and resetting your energy saving preferences might help, but it sounds like a wiring issue.  Best of luck.

  • Backlight keyboard for 20 seconds

Hi, I am just curious about if there is any way to set macbook backlight keyboard for 20 second, because in system pref. there is only 10 and 30 seconds option. But for me is 10 seconds is not enough and 30 too much. Mayby some terminal trick? Thanks for your help

How to know if you have backlit keyboard on W540?
I'm certain I selected it in the configurator, although if the IT guy followed through and also selected it in the order is another question. But nothing happens when I hit Fn+Spacebar. Is there a way to know for sure?
CPU-Z says my model is 20BH001XUS, if that tells anything.

  • Windows XP or Vista for use with Parallels on MacBook 2.16 GHz?

As described in my earlier post, I'm currently switching from my G4 PowerBook to a new MacBook 13" 2.16 GHz.
I'll have to use Windows parallel to OS X (plan to do that with Parallels Desktop) and would like to know what you recommend:
    Windows XP or Windows Vista?
Vista should be better in security issues, however it should also consume much more ressources and thus run slower ... is that right?
    What's your experience?
    Martin
MacBook 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB HD (white)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Martin,
personally I favour XP over Vista (at least for now and the near future), because as you mentioned Vista a much more hungrier than XP and also because there are still a lot of applications which do not work correctly or at all in Vista.
