Backlight turned off?

Hi there friends....
So, I have the blow post under my name re backlight problems. (Screen VERY dim)
Just wondering if I may have accidently turned it off? Is there a setting under display to check??
Chris

Can you adjust the backlight intensity using the F1 and F2 keys on your keyboard? If they don't do anything, try going to System Prefs -> Displays and changing the backlight slider there.
If that fails, it's possible that you might have a faulty backlight or inverter. It's best to get those checked out by an Apple Service Provider.
Hope this helps!

  • Why is my music stop playing when the backlight turns off?

Hi I got a new iPod classic about 2 months ago and now every time the backlight turns off it stops playing music. Can somebody help me because the only solution I found was to put my backlight to ''always on''

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the plug can still be seen.
If you are 100% positive that the earbuds are all the way in, double check to make sure the headphone jack is clean and clear of debris and/or damage.

  • Backlight turns off, then restarts while trying to sync iPad

Today I was at a friends house syncing their devices (iPhone 4, iPad 2) to their Late 2006 MacBook.  While syncing, the backlight turned off.  I shined a flashlight thru the Apple logo, and I tried pressing the brightness up button, and could see the LCD was still on and functioning, but the backlight pretty much froze.  I was able to fix that by turn the brightness all the way down, then back up.  Less then 30 seconds later, the computer turned off, then restarted automatically.  Any ideas what it could be?  Ill have checks the specs, but I know it's a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 10.6.8.

For Clarification- The phone connects to the computer, starts sending data, then powers off before the connection is complete. Only the 6085 has this problem.

  • My ipod nano stops the music once the backlight turns off

my iPod nano 6th generation stops the music once the backlight turns off, how do i fix it?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • Macbook unibody backlight turns off while booting to 10.7

This is a customer unit, so I do not want to do anything to their hard drive without being completely sure that is the issue.
When attempting to boot a Macbook 13-inch Late 2009 (polycarbonate Unibody) to 10.7 on an internal or 10.7.5 on an external hard drive connected via USB the unit boots through the gray screen with Apple logo and spinning gear properly but loses backlight at the point I would normally get the blue screen. It does this in Safe Boot as well.
I am able to boot to an external USB drive running 10.6.8 without issue.
I am also able to boot to the recovery partitions of the 10.7 drives with no video issues.
When trying to boot to the regular partitions, the backlight turns off where the screen should be going to blue just before the login prompt or desktop depending on the account setup.
Has anyone else had this trouble?

i have the exact same issue i still have a applecare so i brought it to my local repair shop(filled with greedy lebanese men who ****** me over when i bought my macbook in march of 2009 2 days before the new macbook pros came out they were like nope u paid $600 extra for an inferior product but we're not going to refund you because u can **** yourself even though i called apple and they said they could replace it with the new one if i bought it from them but since i bought it from one of their repair centers and not an actual apple store im ******) anyway I brought it in several times and they told me that they first replaced the logic board then the they replaced the screen(which was obvious) and they told me they replaced the ram( they did and they downgraded my ram in the process i went in with 4gb of DDR3 @ 1333 mhz and came out with 2 GB of DDR3 @ 667 mhz thanks you lebanese cocksuckers) i made them fix their ram switch which they weren't too happy about and immediately lied to me and told me that there was no problem and that they didn't put different ram in. Then they told me that there was nothing they could do and they couldn't even find the problem i was discribing. since it happens randomly everytime i brought it in to show them how it wouldn't start up or it would turn off randomly it miraciously worked fine. ******* apple, I'm going to call them and demand that they prepare a complete replacement which the lebanese guy told me was impossible, they would not replace the whole macbook just because i had a problem. I too upgraded to mountain lion to try and fix the issues, i then reformated my macbook and downgraded to snow leopard and still the issue remains. *** are we supposed to do this is a chronic issue with many many macs and apple hasn't yet come up with a solution to a problem THEY caused.

  • When Windows 7 Finishes Booting, LCD Backlight Turns Off

I had a working Windows 7 bootcamp partition on my MacBook Pro 13" for at least a year.  One day it started happening that when I would boot to Windows, the LCD backlight would turn off once Windows reached the login screen.  I could use a flashlight to see the screen (barely), so I know it's the backlight and not the whole screen.  In safe mode, it boots correctly.  I assume a driver update hosed the graphics, but I can't figure out what to remove/replace/reinstall to get things working again.  Any ideas?
The machine is an MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.5 13" Mid-2012 model running Windows 7 64-bit.

It helps when you put your computer information (model/year and OS) in your Profile, it narrows down the problems sometimes.
If it partitioned the drive without any errors it has the oprion of letting you come back later to install Windows.
You "shouldn't" have any problems with your mouse or keyboard if they are wired. Windows does not have Bluetooth or Wireless drivers.
Is your computer 64 bit compatible? Here's some other links from @The hatter, read them throughly. This link is the dead one that is mentioned from @The hatter. They may or may be for your issues tho?

  • X31 backlight turns off annoyingly after a few seconds

Weird problem with my x31.  Normally, everything is...well...normal.
But every once in a while, the LCD backlight will turn off after 3-10 seconds of keyboard/mouse inactivity.  As long as I keep typing, the light will stay on.  But if I pause to think, the backlight goes off and the only way to bring it back on is to hit F3 to "darken the screen" and then move the mouse around or hit a key.
It's like there's some sort of extreme power saving mode going on in the system.
It happens even at the boot screen or the BIOS editor...so this is some bit of hardware that has gotten confused.  After a couple of hours, it goes away...but the system isn't much use when it's happening.
When the backlight is off, the LCD is still painting a picture -- I just need to shoot a powerful flashlight at the screen and all the pixels are being properly controlled.  There's just no illumination.
Ideas?  Is there some sort of software diagnostic that would knock some sense back into the backlight controller?

No, the backlight is the color it should be.
I turned off the power-saving mode for "auto-dim" -- but that is calibrated in minutes, and this is happening in seconds (not only that, but its erratic...sometimes 1 second, sometimes 10).
Just for fun I downloaded the latest version of the Power Management stuff (which was just updated a week ago) and ran a whole series of PCDoctor diagnostics on the hardware.  Problem is gone for now...we'll see if that actually was the solution.

  • Backlight turning off randomly

I have a late 2009 27" 2.66 iMac (latest OS and updates). Just the other day the backlight started turning off randomly (can still see screen under a light). I have corners enabled and can put the display to sleep, wake it again and the backlight turns back on, but only for a short time. And I have a second monitor plugged in with no problems on that.
I've read that it may need new hardware which I don't really want to be forking out on. I've tried the other things of reseting the PRAM and SMC with no luck.
I've tried to boot AHT to run a diagnostic but for some reason whatever I do I can't get it to run.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

It's probably a connection if it does it a lot when moving it. If it's out of warranty, you could use one of these guides to open it up and check for lose wires or connections.

  • T410 - LED backlight turns off as soon its plugged in and battery threshold warning pops up

    Situation:
my T410 with i7 and dedicated NS31000 runs on the 9cell battery.
So now I run out of juice and Win7 shows the warning "10% left yadayada...plug in"
So now I wait until it is at 9% and plug in the power.
What then happens is: the LED backlight of the screen turns off.
You can see the pictures etc on the screen, just w/o the backlight.
Of course you think the backlight is at 0, so you try to crank it up and you can see the bar,
but it is the actual backlight which is turned off.
    It is not dimmed.
Sending the laptop to sleep, hibernation or rebooting it turns the backlight on again.
Can anyone check and try to replicate this?

I can assure you that Lenovo support is excellent. It's handled by the same original IBM division in Atlanta Georgia. They are there for you 24/7 every day. I would not hesitate to give them a call, as it's also beneficial for them to hear from you. If it's not reported, they won't be aware of it. Many things like this do not show up in the very extensive testing that Lenovo does before releasing a new model. Therefore we are helping them by reporting these issues. Please let us know the outcome of your call....

  • MBP keyboard backlight turns off when itunes changes songs

Anyone else encountered this? I turned off all of my iTunes related plug-ins and add-ons and it still happens. Whenever the song changes or I play/pause iTunes, my backlight goes off. Is this a 'feature'?

That sounds rather odd. I always have Itunes on and it never happened to me, are you sure that it is not some weird coincidence? Is it only happening when you have iTunes on??

  • IPod Touch 4G screen flashes on, then backlight turns off. What do?

On a trip to Guatemala my ipod touch backlight randomly stopped working. Sometimes when I press the power button it turns on like normal but then the light immediatly turns off. I can still faintly see the icons and such and the screen still works but I just cant see anything. Is there any fixes or will i have to replace the screen?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Doesn't Power Off--Backlight Turns off Instead

Many times when trying to put my new iPod to sleep, it instead just turns the backlight off. Of these, many times I also must try to put it to sleep a second and third time before it finally does.
I read some other topics here about people experiencing power-down problems, but in their cases, it seemed to be that the entire screen was off, not just the backlight. What's with this?
Also, does resetting the iPod wipe songs/videos/pics?

Many times when trying to put my new iPod to sleep, it instead just turns the backlight off. Of these, many times I also must try to put it to sleep a second and third time before it finally does.
What method are you using to put your iPod to sleep? Are you holding the play/pause, or selecting the sleep option in the main menu (this option would have to have been turned on in settings first)?

  • Ipod classic 5G backlight turns off when in dock even when set to 'always on'-any ideas?

I have just inherited an Ipod classic 5G from my son. It all works fine except when I put it into my Ruark audio dock when the backlight then switches off and so I cannot see the tracks. I have it set to backlight always on. I have tried waking it up but it still stays dark. It is fine if I use it with the jack connection on all my other systems. Is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong or can it be got round?? This is my first attempt with an ipod so I am a bit of a novice!

Thanks brody, I do have that option checked. I was just wondering if there was some way via command line or something that things could be modified so that the Mac never turns the NIC off at all, or never tells it to enter into "low power" state.
The more I read, the more I realize this may not be possible.

  • Mac Book Air Backlight Turns Off

A few times the backlight for the display of my Mac Book Air has gone off (for seemingly usual reasons) but then does not come back on in response to keyboard input.
The display works because you can sort of see silouettes of movement on the dark screen, but no display back light.
    Has anybody encountered this problem?
The laptop works great 99.9% of the time, so mostly I'm wondering if the backlight problem is something others have experienced that might get worse and that I should have somebody look at.
Moving the power cable around at its connection point or pulling it out and snapping it back seems to fix the problem, maybe because the change in power clues the software to change the intensity (or maybe there's a loose wire near the power connection?).
While a bit anecdotal, it seems more likely to happen when there is a light breeze blowing down on laptop from an Air Conditioning vent about 8 feet up on the ceiling (as is one of the tables I work at occasionally, and the vent is the only difference I notice from other areas where I work... maybe just coincidence).
I would take it to the store for an opionion except I cannot reproduce it on demand yet, it just occasionally happens.
    Thanks for any info!
