Backlight turns on in Power Saver mode with digita...

I have a 1208 (V5.06), and when I have the Power Saver Clock on with the digital clock displayed, it seems that on every minute change the backlight turns on. I believe this is the cause of my short battery life.
Is there any way I can stop this from happening, besides disabling the digital clock display?
Message Edited by sandywilkins on 26-Dec-2008 08:08 PM

Actually I disabled the Power Saver mode and it still happens. The backlight dims normally and just randomly turns on for a few seconds then turns back off.
Any help will be appreciated.

  • W520 - now changes to "projector only" whenever display turns off in power save mode

I have my W520 in a dock with an external monitor. The display is configured to Extend - the external monitor is primary, and the desktop extends onto the W520 screen. I don't have a screen saver. I turn off the display after 30 minutes of inactivity. Until recently both the laptop and monitor screens would turn off after 30 minutes, and then both resume when I moved the mouse or pressed a key.
Recently, the system has started changing to "Projector Only" when the display turns off. After resuming from power save mode, only the external monitor activates, and the W520 screen is disabled. I have to use Fn-F6 to switch back to "Extend" to re-activate the laptop screen.
I have rebooted and re-saved the power plan.
Why has this happened, and how do I fix it?

    Hi, timg11
I have a few questions so that I may gain a better grasp of this issue:
    1) What is your machine type and model? You can find this information on the bottom of your machine. It should be in format XXXX-XXX.
    2) What is your operating system?
    3) Does this issue occur is the computer is not in the docking station? (Please try if you haven't already).
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

  • Macbook pro goes into power save mode with dell sp2208wfp monitor.

I have a macbook pro and am trying to connect it to a dell sp2208wfp monitor, I am using a hdmi cord and it goes straight to power save mode. My mac works on my roommates monitor and his PC works on my monitor but my mac doesn't work on my monitor. I've read the other forums and have found nothing. One guy suggested plugging the mac into a power source still nothing, any solutions before I try and sell this thing on craigslist?

Had the same issue a few months ago when I tried connecting to external monitor, it is only possible to run external displays from a Macbook Pro while the power cable is attached, if you try and connect to external display without having the charger attached the external display will flash your desk top for a second and then your Macbook Pro will go to sleep.  Hence connect your charger every time you wish to connect to external display, its not a problem with your Macbook Pro, it's just the way of Apple. Hope that helps.

  • My printer officejet pro 8500A plus won't go into power or screen saver mode with XP Prof/

why doesn't my printer officejet pro 8500A plus go into power save or screen saver mode with windows XP Professional?
I have updated the firmware, i've put the printer through a power cycle, I did a semifull reset. I checked the boxes to on for power save and screensaver. Yet my printer runs through the product tour all day long

the only place I can find to enable power and screen savings is on the printer LCD itself. Is there somewhere else to look for this option? I look at printer HP on windows go to properties and there is no way to enable power saver mode.

  • U2312HM and second monitor = Entering Power Save Mode

So, my monitor has not been able to turn on for about a week now. It shows that it's getting power, but after 3 seconds I get the message that it is going into power save mode. I am able to press some buttons on the monitor and a message pops up that there is no signal and to try typing or moving the mouse which doesn't work. I've attempted to change the input source which only leads to "No DisplayPort Cable - The display will go into Power Save Mode in 5 minutes.".  I have tried a separate monitor which is extremely less powerful and I get the same message that it's entering power save mode. Could this be a fried video card or what's happening here?

Thanks for the reply Chris.  I do have both DVI and VGA out ports and I will be testing that today.  Not sure if this has anything to do with my issue or not but I might as well mention it.  I have 4 2 GB ram sticks which came with my pc.  I purchased two new 2 gb ram sticks due to some memory issues I was having.  The problem is, the two new ram sticks I had were not the correct size but I attempted to use them anyway.  Now prior to inserting these new ram sticks I cleaned my pc using air duster and a light suction vacuum cleaner, not sure if I got all of the dust.  Once I found that the ram sticks were not the right size I then reinserted my older ram sticks and this is when the monitor issue occurred.  A couple people had mentioned that this sounds like a bad video card, but could inserting wrong ram sticks affect the motherboard and in turn mess with the videocard?
Also, roughly 3 weeks prior to the monitor issue, the lights on the side of my case are generally dark blue (but can not confirm if this is normal as I rarely pay attention to it.)  The only reason I bring this up is because the lights began to turn red, then a sortof clear light color progressively throughout the next couple of weeks, eventually not turning on at all.  Again, I've never really noticed the lights on my pc to begin with so this could not mean a thing.

    hi Murali993,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Just to verify, when the machine goes into Power Saver Mode (Standby / Sleep), can you check if the power button is blinking (this is an indication that the machine successfully entered Sleep State).
If the power button is just a solid light and it's not blinking then the machine is likely not entering Sleep. In this case, consider doing the following:
    1. Turn off Hybrid Sleep under Control Panel (Icon Views) > Power Options
        - Link to picture
    2. Set the computer's power setting to HIgh Performance and disable the HDD's power management settings (see this guide)
    3. If you have external devices plugged-in (eg. Flashdrives), unplug them then perform a clean boot (this procedure temporarily disables background services/apps that are running in the background that's possibly hanging up the system as these are normally terminated before the machine goes to sleep).
Let me know how it goes.
    Regards

  • Printer gets frozen in the power saver mode

I leave my printer on all the tiime.  When I go to print, if it has gone into the Power Saver Mode it will not get out of it.  It is frozen.  So far the only thing I can do is unplug the printer in the back.  Can I just turn it off with the power button each time I am finished printing?  It's a real pain to get to the back to unplug it.

You need to keep the power saver of if you want it to vibrate on silent. The power save mode doesnt save alot of battery. It only makes the screen brightness lowest and turns screen of faster. Also the 3G will be change to Gsr since it doesnt consume battery so much. Thats basicly what i does

  • How to disable screen power save mode

    Hello, everybody!
I have an issue with screen power save mode in Solaris 6 and I would be very grateful if someone could help me. Here's the problem description: (as root user) by using the GUI "Style Manager" I go to "Screen" and configure both "Screen Saver" and "Screen Lock" to "off" (I also set the "startup" to "resume current session" and clicked "Set Home Session"), however the screen power save mode is still on and after 30 minutes it is activated. How can I disable it? Is there any other command or configuration specifically to control the screen?
    Thanks in advance!
    Rafael Gracioli - [email protected]

It may be that the power management software is turning off the monitor. Run the command dtpower to view/configure the power management settings.

  • Power save mode- black screen

k7t turbo2 board, tdk 40/12/48 burner, toshiba dvd rom 16x, compaq 30gig hd, 1 pci in use for 56k modem board, athlon xp 1700 tbred, antec 280 watt psu, and a diamond *savage 4 (agpx4) with sdram connected to AGP slot.
Upon installation into a new antec case, with everything hooked, I turned on the power and received a black screen through boot up.  The only message was: Power Save Mode and it came from my Sony 19'' trinitron E200. It recognized that there was power, but I got a black screen which leaves me in the dark as to what to do - I can't make fixes from a blank screen.
I did connect the 12v to the JPW1 slot, is that the problem?

I think my words came across wrong, sorry.
The power supply is 300w Antec
I read the post about AMD's first so I wrote my post a little different.
The 5v and the 3.3v combined max is 220 (that is more than the 180 standard) add the 12v to the mix and it's 280.  With the 3.3v I'm pushing 20a.
This seems like enough (according to the tech. I bought it from even though I'm sure he was bias).

  • My Andoid Devices wil not wake up my printer from Power Save Mode

I have an HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw istalled as a wireless network printer. I have various computers with XP and Windows 8 operating systems that wake up  the printer from Power Save mode without problems. I also can print wirelessly from my Windows 8 phone. The problem arises when I try to print from my Android devices. I have installed the HP All-In-One Remote App from the Android Store and they seem to have installed correctly. They recognise the network printer, tell me that it is Power Save mode but are unable to wake it up. Can anyone help with this one please?
The Andoid version on the Tablet is 4.2.2

Hello Jerends and thank you for your attention to my printer problem. My printer already has a fixed IP address so no need to go down that road. I managed to get around the problem by deleting the HP All in One App from my Android devices and replacing it with the HPePrint App. It's not perfect but does the job.
    Thanks again.

  • Monitor enters power save mode on start up

PC keeps crashing in game, after it crashes it shows the message DVI power save mode on my monitor. Sometimes it even crashes on boot.
It all started when i tried to update my bios with live update(yes I know wrong choice, after I did this is read all the wrong things about live update on google)
So i flashed my bios with an usb drive to 1.8, but it's still crashing
    Setup:
    MOBO: Msi Z87-g45
    CPU: Intel I7-4770K
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual SC w/ ACX Cooler
memory: Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1600C9 4x4gb
    PSU: corsair HX750
So I tried everything I could read about this problem on google, I even rma'ed my gpu and it still crashes.
Anyone that can help me? or is the board bricked and should I rma it?

Nope,  didn't do an oc,  sometimes after restarting several times i can run something. Like a game but after some time it freezes and gives a gray screen with 'dvi power saving mode'  after that nothing works,  no caps/numlock.
I was thinking it was the gpu,  so i rma'ed it but when i had it back,  it gave the same thing.
I thing it's the board,  pci slots or something
Edit: it doesn't freeze with integrated gpu so it must be something with the slots?  Evga tested my gpu in another system.

  • Force External Dell Display Into Power Save Mode

How do I set up my MacBook Pro to send a video signal to my external Dell monitor to tell it to go into Power Save Mode when the MacBook Pro goes to "Sleep" (after the Preference set default of 14 minutes)?

I've tried a factory reset on the monitors. My monitors sleep settings are fine and they wake up from being asleep perfectly. As of this morning my little trick of unplugging them and swapping connections has stopped working. Now, when I swap cables the video card automatically assigns the primary video output to one of the monitors and keeps the other one asleep. very strange. So when I unplug the mini video adaptor from the dvi cord and then place that same cord in the native dvi output on the video card the card automatically reassigns the primary video output to that channel. So no matter how much witching I do I always end up with the system acting like I have a stretched desktop but with only the left display working while the right one is asleep. It's time to give apple support a call.
