Backlighting Problems as well

I suppose its kind of a relief to see others having the same problems, is this an inherent mac problem i ask?
The backlighting on my girlfriends ibook g4 just went out two days ago. I was using the computer and tilted the screen back a little so i could see better, then bang, the screen went black. I tried reseting the computer, it starts okay, but no backlight. Like others have said, if you look very hard or use a flashlight, you can see things, but no go on the light. I tried reseting the pmu, still no joy. The ibook is conveniently out of warranty now, what should i do? Suffice to say my girlfriend is now very annoyed at the whole apple thing as she has had 2 faulty ipods replaced, and a faulty battery replaced for the ibook, my ibook had a faulty harddrive and battery replaced. Made to last i ask???? Two months maybe???
I see others mentioning logic board problems, is there a chance that lots of ibooks are experiencing the same, or similar problems, and then shouldnt apple own up to the problem???
Any ideas would be gratly appreciated.... cheers

    Take it in to an Apple store or authorized service center for evaluation and possible replacement.

    my n73 has a backlight problem.Under a special angle ( there are dark stains.They are HARDLY noticable.

    Hello everyone, I have a Thinkpad T420 (6 months old) and I think I have a backlight problem. The backlight vanish at the startup of the computer and when I boot in Safe mode. Can anybody helps me ? Thanks !

    Hmmmm ... have you tried increasing the brightness? Any on screen display showing the brightness bars?
    You can try uninstalling power manager, power management driver and hotkeys package then do a reboot then install all 3 again and see if it helps.

  • Lenovo T61 Backlight Problem !

    Hi, so i bought a notebook Lenovo T61 last year in september. The model is 6459CTO with a 15.4 WSXGA screen. This is how it shows on the packing list.
    15.4 WSXGA- TFT
    So 25 days after warranty expired the notebook screen died. How **bleep**ty is that ? When i turn on the notebook, i only see very dim thinkpad on the screen and then it gets completely dark. After researching, I am quite sure its either the inverter or the backlight. Since i am a college student i cant really afford getting it fixed so i have to do it myself.
    Can anyone help me find the backlight ? I tried finding the backlight online but no success. Also it would be great if someone knows how to open up the notebook LCD and replace the backlight. I have all the required tools including the solder. Please help me out !!! Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
    Before you start pulling that T61 apart, let's review a couple of things:
    a) Does it have Intel or nVidia graphics?
    b) Does it display anything on external monitor?
    c) Was the LCD reddish/pinkish on initial boot before this last episode?
    While it may very well be the inverter or backlight (more likely) you may also be looking at a motherboard problem. That's why I'm asking whether the machine displays on external monitor.
    Replacing a backlight is NOT a job for a novice, take it from someone who's done it in the past but chooses to have it done by another party nowadays...

  • Backlight problem with software updat 1.1 for neno

    the new 1.1 software update of 'iPod Updater 2006-01-10' for neno stuffs up the backlight. if i leave the light in always off or always on and try to use (press and hold) menu button to manually switch on and off the back light DOES NOT WORK any more....
    apple pls fix it asap...

    heres wats new with 1.1-
    1. holding menu will take you to the main menu instead of activating or deactivating the backlight
    2. lyrics and album art staying on screen and not disappearing after 10 seconds
    3. Apple Radio Remote support
    4. Line-out problem, occasionally when going from headphones to line-out, there would be no sound.
    5. The 'Alarm' feature has been overhauled, easier to set the time, and a little bell icon is displayed next to the 'Alarm' menu item when it is set.
    6. 'Screen-lock' has also been changed, slightly different interface, the numbers are in sunken boxes as opposed to the red glow. And a new warning is given telling you to hook your Nano up to your comp if you forget your code.
    7. There was a problem with turning off, if you scrolled back or forward through a playlist/album, back to the main menu, sometimes it would not turn off.
    8. The song title is in bold above the lyrics when you go to the lyrics screen
    9. itunes opens almost instantly (within a second or 2) with the ipod showing. Before, this used to take 5-10 seconds, maybe more.
    10. Reduced lag, before, when scrolling and clicking quickly through menus and songs, had some 'slow down', this is gone now.
    11. Before the update I noticed a lag when I would skip songs, the next song would come on but the tags would have a slight lag on them and that has been fixed as well.
    12. More accurate battery meter. Doesn't go down too quickly as it used too. One person said that it actually increases battery life after a testing.
    13. When using the Universal dock with remote the backlight will come on after you change the volume, before the backlight remained off.

  • Long phone call, backlight problem.

    Well sometimes i have long phone calls to deal with, say for around 3-4 hours. When i want to end the phone call i obviously move the phone away from my ear and press the "End Call" button.
    Problem is, that the backlight doesnt come on. I dont know why this is, its happened a few times and ive had to press the unlock and home button together for it to restart itself or whatever, but having to do it everytime is really annoying!
    Anyone got any suggestions? Tweak the settings or anything?

    If you're using a case, take it off. A lot of people re-use cases meant for the Original iPhone and the case blocks the proximity sensors.

  • Backlight problem on MacBook

    I have a 2008 MacBook (A1181) and am having one issue that I can't seem to figure out. A few weeks ago, the backlight started giving me problems. Specifically, it would shut off. Apple wanted $300 to fix it and I'd rather just get a new computer at that point, so I thought I'd try and fix it myself. If I break it, oh well.
    Anyway, I ordered a new backlight inverter board and an inverter cable, but the problem persists. If I leave the computer alone completely, the backlight turns on after about a minute of sitting at the login screen. However, as soon as I touch a key/move the mouse, it shuts off. If I wait again, it comes back on a minute or two later, but then the same thing happens.
    I've tried an external keyboard and have gotten the same results.
    Any ideas at all what could be causing this? Or is the hardware just messed up?

    Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac. Click on More Info ... next on System Report. In the left hand column, under Hardware, select USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Look through that and check for "Built-in iSight". That is your camera. If it is not listed the camera is not working.
    For backlighting, try this: go to System Preferences / Keyboard. Uncheck "Adjust keyboard lighting in low light".

  • Woud like to find out if other people are having backlighting problems?

    I am now on my THIRD Macbook Pro 17" return because of faulty construction/quality control, including crooked keys, etc. The biggest problem I have experienced on every single one is that the monitor backlighting is uneven. Since I do video and photo editing for a living, I expect my Macbook PRO to have a professional display - this latest one is slightly brighter on the bottom 1", and has a few slightly dark splotches on the lower right. If anyone does pro photography, you can understand how this is unacceptable.
    I would like to know if others are experiencing this, and why it keeps on recurring? My old Powerbook Titanium had a perfect display..in fact, perfect everything (it got stolen, unfortunately). Is Mac using cheaper suppliers for their LED screens and other parts? Is their quality control not what it used to be? If so, the price does not reflect that! My girlfriend has a cheap Sony 17" that has a perfectly backlit monitor.
    I don't mean to rant; however, I'd love to find out if there are others with this problem, and if it's at all fixable? After three returns, I'm beyond frustrated.

    I think I've figured out what the problem might be behind the uneven backlighting. Because the screen is so insanely thin and the super thin aluminum is so insanely bendable (compared, at least to the awesome titanium that they used to use about five years ago), there is uneven pressure on the screen itself.
    By applying pressure behind the screen (to the actual aluminum top) I am able to make the subtle dark spots that I am seeing appear wherever I apply pressure, as long as it is about halfway down the screen (which is where the problems are occuring, all in the bottom half).
    The solution for the problem would be to either get a computer that's made well enough so that the pressure is even (i'm not holding my breath on that one - sorry!), or to take it in to get serviced and have them make sure the pressure is even, somehow.

  • T400 dimming backlight problem

    Hi guys, First of all, sorry if it was already solved in different topic. Looked through the posts on forum, but didn't find the same problem. I have the LED display. It all started few months ago, when the backlight from time to time suddenly dims a bit (it doesn't turn off completely, but just darkens a bit). I didn't find a way how to brighten it, it just does after few minutes. Recently the backlight started to turn off completely. For the first few times it just helped when I pressed crt-alt-del and it turned on. Well it doesn't help anymore, but closing and opening the lid seems to do the job. Do you think it's software or hardware issue and furthermore how to deal with it? thanks a lot Adam

  • Problems with Droid Pro keyboard backlight problem

    The keyboard backlight on the Mororola Droid Pro goes out when it is totally dark ever since OTA to 2.3.3.  Any suggestions for a fix (don't say battery pull, yada, yada (doesn't work), or click home twice then backspace (not a true fix, but a workaround) or rooting the phone (doesn't fix).    Seems to be a software glitch.  Backlight qworked well in 2.2.

    Why cant Verizon pushout OTA update to fix the problem instead of making all of us come to the store for a reflash? It would make more sense IMHO.

    I upgraded to the 9930 recently and my initial review of the unit was quite positive.  The 9930 worked exceptionally well, no glitches, no problems.  Naturally an OS upgrade to 7.1.0 bundle 457 was available so I updated my system.  From that point on my 9930 has become the stuff negative campaigns are designed for.  However, the biggest problem, and one I cannot seem to resolve, is the unit's backlight function.  No matter what program I am in, no matter what time day or night, regardless of what features are in play, the backlight goes off constantly.  Essentially one or two seconds after the unit is brought out of hibernation to use.  I can be reading an email - the backlight goes off; I can be scrolling through the Internet - the backlight goes off; I can be on the phone - the backlight goes off.  In fact, I have to constantly move the mouse or tap a key to keep the backlight on at all.
    I've made a myriad of adjustments to those features that offer backlight access and setup; nothing seems to work.  Verizon, if by chance you see this post, please do not suggest I need a new Blackberry.  This is a software issue that should be fixed ASAP.  My unit worked splendidly until the upgrade to the 457 bundle.
