Backlit Keyboard Certain keys not as bright as others

I just got a new MBP 09, upgraded my old MBP. I am overwhelmed with improvements and speed. I noticed though that the whole keyboard is not lit. It seemed kind of odd and i have since tried searching for the standard, or possibly if anyone else has this same issue. I will post a link to the picture of what I am talking about, but I really noticed it when i put the brightness all the way up and the 7& key was extremely bright while the other keys were not. Im not sure whether this is normal or this is a defect. I thought I would get input prior to bothering the Genius' at Apple. The picture is at full brightness for the keys and half for the screen. With a light on in the room.

Thanks

My brightest keys are 3,4,7,U,F3,F4,B,N from what I can see. This is at lower brightness. The more you raise the brightness, it's less noticeable.
Part of the reason is that some keys have more area where light can pass through. Obviously keys with smaller symbols won't shine through as bright. And since the LEDs are all glowing at the same brightness, you'll get discrepancy in overall brightness. If Apple took it a step further, they could have maybe governed the brightness depending on how much light shown through the key, and adjusted the final output of light.
But that's getting crazy. I have no problem with the light. I'm a touch typist so I don't even look at the keyboard but for maybe a function key or two. I just use the light more as a guide when I go to put my hands on the home row.

  • HP 15-d069wm TouchSmart Notebook PC keyboard certain keys not working

Certain keys (space bar, left shift key, z, x, c, v, b, n, m , comma, period, /) and number keys (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9) on the keyboard of my laptop are not working. I already tried to do several hard resets (disconnecting power supply and taking out battery) but that didn't help. I also "uninstalled" the keyboard using the device manager, that didn't work either.
The laptop was bought in June 2014. I'm using an external USB keyboard right now.
Any ideas how to fix that issue?
    Thanks!

  • Apple wired keyboard - certain keys not working with shift

I treated myself to a new Apple wired keyboard MB110B/A for my mac mini.
My previous keyboard worked fine, however the new keyboard causes the computer to enter the Hardware Test mode every time the computer is restarted. The computer only starts normally without the keyboard connected (or with my old keyboard connected).
Once the computer has started, if I plug the new keyboard in, it appears to work normally with the following exceptions. The following keys do not register when the "shift" key is pressed: 2, w, s, x. This fault does not occur with my old keyboard.
As these keys are in a line, I think there may be a wiring fault inside the keyboard. If so, would this explain the computer entering Hardware Test mode every time it is started with the keyboard connected?
    Thanks in advance.

Definitely sounds like a hardware fault in the keyboard to me. I assume it's the same whichever USB port it's connected to? (and if you plug it into another Mac, too)?
Of course, as that keyboard is glued together in final assembly, it's completely unrepairable.
If it's a reproducible fault (and new anyway): take/send it back for replacement. You shouldn't have any trouble with Apple arguing.

The keyboard was functioning fine yesterday.
I have not spilled anything on it. Restarted my iMac multiple times, changed usb ports, and unplugged everything else but my mouse and keyboard.
    Nothing fixed it so far.

  • Liquid spill on keyboard. Certain keys not working. Any inexpensive repair? re

Water spill on the keyboard of my Mac Book Air. Now certain keys not functioning. A Mac friend suggested submerging in rice upside down to dry out. Didn't work. Warranty expired. Help!

Yes, the "magic rice trick" doesnt work.
    inexpensive repair? No.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • 6630: Certain Keys Not Working

For some reason, my Nokia 6630 has certain keys not working. Actually, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I doubt it's a cover problem, because even when I take it out, the keys still don't work.
The "1", "3", "C", Left, and Up don't work at all, and it's annoying. Some help, please?

The phone is too old and I think it has no FW upgrade in NSU.
I guess this could be a hardware fault. Better if you go to service point.
But before that have you tried a hard reset?*#7370#.

  • Qosmio X770 screen is definitely not as bright as other laptops

I have visited SEVERAL retail stores selling the Qosmio X770 and the X770's screen is definitely NOT as bright as other laptops such as Satellite even other models of Qosmio.
I've compared the X770 against other laptops side by side at several retail stores, and the X770 seems dimmer. I made sure the brightness setting on both laptops were on maximum each time.
I've even opened up Notepad in Windows when comparing laptops and I noticed that not only is the X770 less bright, it has a lower "whiteness level". The white space (eg. in Notepad or when browsing the web) is "less white". The whiteness seems very dull in the X770 compared to other laptops.
I'm wondering if this is a flaw in the X770? I asked each salesman at each store and they said it's "normal", and that it is the way the laptop was designed.
Perhaps as a gaming laptop, they decided not to make it too bright to make gaming more comfortable? If one of the X770 engineers could answer this, i'd be very happy.
I'm in Australia by the way.

    Hi
I dont have the X770 Qosmio but Ive got the U400 and a Tecra A11.
The display of U400 is brighter as the Tecra A11 display.
The point is that Tecra A11 is equipped with different LCD panel.
Type of Lighting is Sidelight, LED and the Brightness NIT (value) at 8 level (highest level) is220.
The U400 is equipped wit other LCD display and the Brightness NIT (value) at 8 level is 250.
So its 30NIT higher then on display using by Tecra A11
The X770 supports the 17.3"(HD+) display and the Brightness NIT at 8 level is 220NIT
So its the same brightness like on Tecra A11 but is dimmer as on display of U400.
But this is not a display fault or hardware problem. Its simply different kind of display.. you know
Personally I like both... both displays have advantages and disadvatages in the usage...

  • HT3964 Backlit keyboard: some keys are brighter than others. Can this be fixed?

I spilled a small amount of liquid on the key board, but I quickly dried it and everything works fine except the keyboard. Some keys are brighter than others, what should I do?

Hope that it is the only problem that you will have with your MBP.  Liquids have a habit of quickly migrating and you may or may not have gotten it all.  I would take it to an Apple genius bar and have them check it out.  That does not mean that your MBP will not suffer a premature death.
As far as the keyboard is concerned, pose that question to the genius bar technician.. I suspect you will be told that the only way to rectify the problem is to install a new one.
    Ciao.

I have a 12" powerbook, german keyboard layout and I have a problem with my "Umlaut U" key and my Arrow-up key. But only in certain applications and also not permanently. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. Its not a hardware problem due to the fact that the keys immediately respond when i switch to another app.

  • Certain keys not working envy dv7-7304tx

My keyboard will occasionally lose the ability to register certain keys when pressed. In particular, the top row of number keys will frequently stop working. For instance, at the moment the five, six and dash will not work, and fifteen minutes ago none of the numbers in the top row would. The right-side number pad also will occasionally not work. After a short time everything will work again normally, but it happens pretty frequently and can be very frustrating if you need some work done in a hurry.
As I write this, I've tried the 5 and 6 keys and they're working now, but when I started to write it they would not. Has someone else had similar issues? Is it the hardware or something I can address myself?

  • Keyboard: some keys not working

Some keys not working.  Need help/suggestions.  Not great with computers so PLEASE give details/steps re: how to do what you suggest - thanks!
Details: intel based iMac running snow leopard 10.6.8.  Apple wireless/bluetooth keyboard (came with the iMac).
Some keys suddenly stopped working:  space, tab, capLock, option key to the right of space bar (one on the left works), down arrow
The problem happens in various programs (safari, pages, etc)
The keyboard is fine on another iMac
A different keyboard is fine on this/the involved iMac
(nutshell: keyboard works fine - computer works fine, unless they're together)
    Here's what's been tried/checked:
-checked the settings for universal access ("mouse keys" are off) and checked for any bluetooth keyboard shortcuts.
-in system preferences "speech" is not set for "speak selected text when the key is pressed" - this is not checked/selected
-tried creating a new user but had the same issue so it's computer-wide rather than just a user account
-removed the keyboard and reconnected (using the +/- signs and "disconnect" and putting in a new code of numbers to pair keyboard)
    -language/text is set for english
-did the keyboard viewer and the keys in question did NOT highlight when pressed (but don't forget the entire keyboard is fine on a different computer so thekeys aren't the issue)
-"slow keys" is turned off re: keyboard in system preferences.
Any help is welcomed.  It's frustrating knowing the keyboard works, just not with this computer.  Please help.  Many thanks!

yes - not sure how this works...if you can see my original post there are a lot of details in there.  If you can't...
nutshell: the keyboard works on a different iMac
a different keyboard works on this/the involved iMac
I tried to create a different user and the keyboard still does not work so it is computer-wide
I also removed the keyboard from the computer (using the +/- symbols and disconnecting and then repairing it.  The problem remained
Thanks for any help.  It's crazy that the keyboard is fine and the computer is fine but together, there's the problem.
    Thank you!!!

  • Certain keys not working after formatting......

I recently formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows XP and all the drivers.
Everything is fine except 2-3 keyboard buttons are not working (@ and \ keys are not coming). It is due to wrong/missing driver or some other setting is there?

  • Certain keys not working on Equium A200-196 after Windows 7 update

Hi all, I've just upgrade my partner's laptop (a Toshiba Equium A200-196) to Windows 7 after initially installing Windows XP on it (it came with Vista).
After the XP update, I noticed certain keys weren't working. I can't remember the process I used to fix the issue, but fix it I did, and they were all soon working perfectly. So it was a software issue, rather than hardware. I think it may have had something to do with the FN key - but I can't be sure.
Now I've just upgraded the same machine and I have exactly the same problem. The keys that don't work are Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L.
Can anyone help please? I've tried reinstalling Win7 and the problem is still there.
    Many thanks,
    Andy

    >The keys that don't work are Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L.
These keys have nothing to do with the missing software.
Indeed, the function key (FN key) needs an installation of particular Toshiba utility / software to get it working but the Backspace, W, P, F, H, K and L keys are common keyboard keys which dont needs any special software.
Therefore I think the issue is hardware related: simple keyboard malfunction.
I guess all these keys would work properly if you connect and use external USB keyboard.
