  • Migrating User from MCS 7828 H3 to UCS C220

            Hi All
I wanted to can someone tell me what is the process for migrating users from a MCS 7828 to a UCS C220. A associate of mine called me about doing a migration from the MCS to the UCS series and he wants to know how does he get the users over to the new platform. Thanks in advance for the help and have a great day.

    Hi Scooter817,
There are a few options depending on what the customer has today and what will be the end state.  Below are the most common scenarios:
1st Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x, 7.x, etc..) on MCS server(s) without UCSS wanting to move to new SW releases (9.x)  on UCS C220.    The most cost effective way is to buy $9 upgrade per user per application SKUs (ex. UPG-6K-ENH) with UCSS for 3 years.  There is more information on the BE6K product page under the partner section around migrations  BE6K Product Page - http://www.cisco.com/go/be6000
2nd Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x, 7.x, etc..) on MCS server(s) with UCSS wanting to move to new SW releases (9.x)  on UCS C220.    Since they have UCSS, they can go to PUT with thier contract number request updated SW and licensing, then re-host licenses to the new server.  PUT link: http://tools.cisco.com/gct/Upgrade/jsp/productUpgrade.jsp
3rd Scenario - Customer is on older SW releases (8.x) on MCS server(s) with or without UCSS wanting to move to same SW releases (8.x)  on UCS C220.   They can re-host licensing to the new server via SWIFT.  Here is the link to the process.  https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/lookupLicenseForRehost

  • Replacing CUCM VMs with newer ones?

    Hey all,
I recently upgraded from 8.6 to 9.1, all is well. I have 2 questions:
    1. In order to meet the disk size requirements, do I have to build new machines and restore from DRS? If so, since they have to be built identical, any suggestions on doing this without causing a production outage?
    2. Unity upgrade threw back an error stating the machines did not meet requirements, same as above?
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Change Virtual Machine Configuration Specifications
Use the following procedure when you need to change the configuration specifications on your virtual machine (VM) in order to upgrade to a new release of Unified Communications Manager or IM and Presence Service. Configuration specifications include the vCPU, vRAM, and vDisk size. For information about VM requirements, see the Readme file with the OVA template that supports your release. Details about OVA templates are available on the Virtualization Docwiki at http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Implementing_Virtualization_Deployments.
    Procedure
    Step 1
Perform a Disaster Recovery System (DRS) backup. For more information about performing a backup, see the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Disaster Recovery Administration Guide.
    Step 2
(Optional.) If you need to increase the vDisk space to meet the space requirements of a refresh upgrade, install the following COP file: ciscocm.vmware-disk-size-reallocation-<latest_version>.cop.sgn
    Step 3
    Shut down the virtual machine.
    Step 4
Change the configuration of the virtual machine as needed:
Change the Guest OS version to match the requirements of the new release (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (64-bit).
To change the vCPU, make the change in vSphere Client. Ensure that you change the reservation value to match the specifications of the new release.
To change the vRAM, make the change in vSphere Client. Ensure that you change the reservation value to match the specifications of the new release.
To increase the vDisk space, edit the disk size using vDisk. If the virtual machine has two disks, expand the second one. The new space is automatically added to the common partition when you restart the virtual machine.
    Note
You need to change the disk size changes only if you need additional space to complete the upgrade. The disk space requirements are specified in the Readme file for the OVA template.
Expanding the disk size to add space to the common partition will not increase the user capacity of your system. If you need to extend the user capacity of your system, you must migrate from a single-disk to a multi-disk virtual machine; seeReplace a Single Server or Cluster for Cisco Unified Communications Manager for more information.
For more information about making configuration changes using vSphere Client, refer to the user manual for the product.
    Step 5
Modify the Network Adapter to use the VMXNET 3 Adapter type. For information about modifying the Network Adapter to meet the requirements of this release, see the Readme file for the OVA template.
    Step 6
Upgrade the software to the latest version.
    Step 7
    Power on the virtual machine.

  • CUCM & CME licensing

    Hello
I  know this may seem a strange question but I am struggling to find an  answer to it and am hoping this is the correct place to post the  question and get an answer.
Our  organisation currently has a CUCM cluster. When new phones are needed  the organisation buys the phones and the required number of licenses for  the phones.
Each of the 3 remote sites has a 2851 running in SRST mode if it looses contact with the CUCM servers.
I  know all the theory about CUCM etc but I am new to administration on a  live network. There are a couple of questions which have been asked  lately that I am unclear about.
    1.  There are some plans to add 4 more remote sites to the system, the  question has been asked if more phone licenses need to be bought. I have  advised that licenses are bought with the phones (depending on the  phone model). The phones are new not spares so they need the licenses.
    2.  If some of the original sites decided to break away from the current  set-up and use their 2851 in CME mode will they need to buy more  licenses for their phones. I was unclear of the position on this but I  did not think it possible to transfer CUCM licenses to CME.
I  am sorry if this is rather a basic question but although I have spent a  bit of time looking through Cisco documentation on licensing I am still  unclear on the answers to these questions.
I would appreciate any help on this or if someone could point me in the direction where I can find the information
    Kind Regards

Thank you for the info but I might not have explained myself properly
We dont want to replace CUCM licenses with CME licenses, it is more a case of if one of the remote sites which currently is registered to the CUCM decides to go on their own and use their 2851 gateway as a CME router can the current licenses on the CUCM system be transfered to the CME.
I thought that the CUCM licenses could only be transferred between CUCM systems but I might be wrong
I was also a bit unsure of what type of phone licenses the CME actually needed.
    Thanks for your input
    Ellen

My question regading the 3rd server , can i use it as a backup without license or any thing else ?. I need to make 3rd server to be used ,so i have to disable Call manager service from Pub to allow the other two servers work as subscribers?.I need also to mention that when i tried to enable call manager on 3rd server , i got that there is no licenses. So on my group only 2Xservers (PUb and Sub)

  • Can't replace PXI onboard clock with PXI-6682 oscillator clock on PXI back plane

I have installed a PXI-6682 timing module in slot 2 of a PXI-1031chassis with a PXI-8110 controller running Hypervisor and RT.  The 6682 is installed on the RT system under Hypervisor for GPS timing during measurements but I would like to put the TCXO on the PXI-1031 chassis backplane (replacing the PXI onboard clock).  When I try to run the "Route Clock.vi" that I found in the example finder, all I get are error messages indicating that a parameter for this operation is invalid.  The source terminal is "Oscillator" and the destination terminal is "PXI-Clk10_In".  How do I determine which parameter is invalid?  Any suggestions?  Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi vugt,
I tested this out and have what I believe to be your final answer.
The short answer:  The PXI-6682 can be used with NI-Hypervisor on the Windows side, but not on the Real-Time side.
    The long answer:
While the NI-Hypervisor Manager allow you to put the PXI-6682 on two different systems, it is still only one PXI card on the PCI bus, so really only one system can access it at a time.
Therefore we need to assign both "devices" to either Windows or Real-Time.  For our purposes, let's assume we assign it to Real-Time.
On an NI-Hypervisor system, each PCI interrupt line can only be assigned to one operating system.  Either it can be assigned to Windows, or it can be assigned to RT.
Here is where the problem arises: The PXI-6682 needs to be located in a System Timing slot (generally slot 2).  However, this slot (at least in the 1000B chassis I tested in) is located on the same PCI interrupt line as the chipset.  Windows is required to have access to this PCI interrupt line, so devices used by Real-Time cannot be located on this interrupt line.
This prevents us from being able to use the PXI-6682 in Real-Time.
The NI-Hypervisor Manager will try to tell you to resolve this conflict by moving the PXI-6682 to slot 3, however, now the System Timing slot requirement is not met.
This does not prevent the card from being used on the Windows side of an NI-Hypervisor system, or on a purely Real-Time system.

  • BE5K upgrade to 9

Hello.  I have a Business edition 5000 running on a MCS 7828H3.  Its versions are CUCM System version: 6.1.3.1000-16 , and CUC Version 2.1.3ES23.1000-23.
Am I to follow the upgrade docs for full CUCM/CUC?  Also, i know there are requirements when using the 7828 and 7825 that you need an externally powered 128G usb drive.  Is this still true for BE5K?
As the voicemail storage is on box, Im assuming that the upgrade iso will also take care of any message store reconfigs.
Thoughts and comments are appreciated.  Thanks

Yes, you'll need a USB HD if upgrading to 8.6 or above:
You must attach a 128-GB USB drive to the Connection server if you are upgrading a Cisco MCS 7825-H3 server, the equivalent HP DL320G5, or a Cisco MCS 7828-H3 server (for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition). This is because the upgrade converts these servers from hardware RAID to software RAID, and the hard disks are reformatted. The USB drive is required so Connection data and voice messages are not lost during the upgrade.
Here is the BE5k release notes and product docs:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/ps7273/prod_release_notes_list.html
Normal doc for hardware compatibility though:

  • BE5k to BE6k Migration tar file fails

Hi we are upgrading from a CUCMBE5k to 6k (CUCM 9.1.2)
Our existing server is on an HP MSC server and we purchased the Cisco UCS C220 server. We are following the below guide which outlines creating the server then import/export the tar files from the old server into the new CUCM. Because this is on a new server I'm bring the new one up in parallel then i will cut over.
When I run the import it fails. Attached is the job schedular failier. The log files have some info however, how much do I need to manipulate this info, if I can. Has anyone run into this issue with the TAR files failing?
    Thanks,
    Mike

There is no migration path for CUCM off of a BE5k. You must build the new CUCM cluster from scratch. If you're patient, you can use BAT Import/Export to carry over most of the data; however, it'll require a lot of massaging in Excel as the columns will be different between the export from your older version and the import on 9.1(2). Note that you can carry CXN mailboxes over using COBRAS but you must be on CXN 7.x or newer.
If you have installed Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 5000 on an MCS-7828 server, and you decide that you need to migrate to separate Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connection environments for increased scalability and capacity, you can reuse that MCS-7828 server to run Cisco Unified Communications Manager in a MCS-7825 cluster. Although you can reuse the server, you must reenter your data on the server manually. You must also obtain another server to run Cisco Unity Connection.

    Hello
    Thanks Manish .
I found many articles in cisco which says that this error is related to the bug which need firmware upgrade , but I don't have support from cisco because EOS.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/49511/updated-16-february-2011-ibm-7816-i4-782x-i4-filesystem-errors
    Solution
The file-system going read-only issue which has recently been affecting server models MCS-7816-I4, MCS-7825-I4, and MCS-7828-I4 (or their IBM equivilants) in the field is addressed by CSCti52867 - "IBM 7816-I4 and 782x-I4 READONLY file system".
The fix for CSCti52867 is now available and requires the application of two patch files.  Install both of these patch files in the order listed below.
    1. First install ciscocm.ibm-diskex-1.0.cop.sgn
The Readme file ciscocm.ibm-diskex-1.0.cop.sgn includes installation instructions for this .cop.sgn.
Make sure to only install this utility when show hardware CLI output indicates the array is in a healthy state.
If your server has never had the filesystem go readonly then this step is optional.
    2. Next install Cisco-HDD-FWUpdate-3.0.1-I.ISO .
The Readme file Cisco-HDD-FWUpdate-3.0.1-I.Readme.pdf includes installation instructions for this ISO.
This installer is completely independant of the OS installed on the server.
Note:  Installing the FWUpdate v3.0(1) or later will get you firmware with the fix for this defect.  It is always recommended that you apply the latest FWUCD available for your server.
Refer to the Release Note of CSCti52867 and the Readme file for each of the above mentioned patch files for more details.
    Symptoms
The file system goes READONLY, then CUCM services may go down, the server may become "unresponsive" meaning that it is not possible to ssh into the server, login to the console, or web into the server although it may still respond to pings.
Traces from all services stop writing (including syslog)
You see the following error on the server console
EXT3-fs error (device sda6) in start_transaction: Jornal has aborted

  • UCM version upgrade and failover

I'm new to the company, and I currently have a Cisco MCS 7828-H3 running UCM 6.1.1 with Unity connection 2.1.1.  We had a psu go faulty on the MCS which killed the phone systems for a day, and had everyone going crazy.  I figure best bet is just to buy a backup MCS off of ebay, and run it in some kind of failover config.  I was also looking to upgrade to some of the newer versions.  Looking at the version compatibility chart, 6.1.1 isn't even shown as compatible with my server, so I'm not sure how that worked out. The newest 8.6 is indeed compatible, but I was wondering how licensing works on this device?  Does smartnet cover the upgrade for going from 6.1 to 8.6?  Also, I see two machines on ebay (one of which looks beefier), but the compatibility chart doesn't show them as being compatible.  Will I still be able to upgrade them to the same versions?  How does failover work with this system.  I really don't want to have to bother with getting any new licensing for the backup server since it will just be there in the case of an emergency (1 day every couple of years).

If a model does not show up try looking here:
Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers
    Solution Overviews
If it's not the same HW most likely you won't be able to install it and won't be supported if you manage to install it but the specs do not match what is on the link.
As far a failover it's either you buy another node license and create a subscriber (which will be seamless failover for users) or you backup your config daily and when your PUB crashes you take that config and load it into the other server which will be running the exact same version as the production PUB and you also need to reach licensing in order for them to rehost the licenses from one server to the other. Obviusly the 2nd option means you'll be without phone services until you restore your config on the other server and get the licenses.

  • User Migration Licenses from BE5000/CME to 9.X ?

    Hello All,
I would really appreciate if someone can help me understand how does Cisco send the migration user licenses after purchase?
here is a brief summary of what my customer is trying to migrate from :
    - Customer has a BE5000 site with some 7962 phones and another CME site with some 7962/7937 phones
    - from reading the ordering guide I see I can use the following part numbers to migrate from those sites to 9.X
    L-MIGB-UCM-UWL-PRO & L-MIGE-UCM-UWL-PRO
    - Both sites have had their equipment shut down more than 3 months ago so we have no access to those servers incase the process involves logging on those systems to migrate the user licenses.
The question I have is if I order migration licenses via those part numbers, do cisco send a PAK key or will I need to run something on the old BE5000 or CME to be able to retrieve those upgrade licenses?
    Thank you

    Hi,
what I understand that u are using BE5K with version 8.x on MCS 7828 or below and are upgrading to Call Manager version 9 on different platform[Virtualised] ?
the Part codes mentioned say that u are migrating Basic & Enhanced Users to Professional Users and placing the order since u do not have UCSS contract.
You will get the single PAK code for total number of users to be migrated and the same needs to be entered on www.cisco.com/go/license along with ELM file .This file u would get once u migrate successfully to version 9 [license MAnagement---Licenses --other fulfiment options--generate ,now copy from ELM and paste on license page]
other way is write mail to [email protected] along with Sales Order Number  and License Count Utility [LCU report] taken from existing call manager version .LCU is downloadable from Cisco.

  • CCX 8.0 IPCC Extensions Missing

    All:
I recently replaced a failed CUCM Publisher (the CUCM had no subscribers) which was integrated with CCX. Both are running 8.x
The replacement CUCM Publisher was manually configured with same phones, users, App users, etc.
It does not show the IPCC Extension field for the agents.
I ran Data Resync on CCX AppAdmin, no luck. The users are associated to their phones, and the phones are associated to the RMCM JTAPI account.
    Suggestions?
    Steve
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Hi Steve,
Inorder to see the IPCC extension , UCCX needs to be integrated with this new CUCM.
Please try creating a new JTAPI and RmCm Application users one more time, you will see the IPCC extensions.
Also remember to associate the Agent Phones to RmCm application users and perform the Data Resync operation just to make sure that everything is proper.
    Hope this helps.

I am trying to use it as an experiment purpose than will put in production that can go upto 500 users later on. I will be needing the Unified messaging system also. I am interested in the new Linux version of call manager. Thanks,

    Hi Vinay,
    The version that sounds most suitable and that will scale to 500 users is;
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition is an easy-to-manage solution that combines voice, video, mobility, and messaging on a single server to simplify system administration and reduce hardware and operating expenses. This solution provides cost-effective deployment options for medium-sized organizations with smaller IT staffs that require all the advanced capabilities of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (formerly Cisco Unified CallManager), Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Unified Mobility (formerly Cisco Unified MobilityManager), and integrated management on a single server to expedite migration to unified communications.
The solution includes many new capabilities designed specifically for medium-sized organizations.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition is a designed for medium-sized businesses with up to 500 employees and up to five remote sites. The Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition integrates the benefits of voice, video, mobility, and messaging on a single platform. Previously, organizations needed one hardware server for each application. Consolidating applications on a single server makes the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition a cost-effective solution by eliminating the need to have multiple hardware servers to run each application. It also dramatically simplifies the installation, support, and ongoing management of the system, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO). With the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition, medium-sized businesses can now more easily afford to bring enterprise-class Cisco Unified Communications features and applications to their headquarters and branch locations.
The Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition consists of the following core components:
Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0 with integrated mobility features
    Cisco Unity Connection 2.0
Cisco MCS 7828 Media Convergence Server
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition is based on the Cisco Unified Communications Linux-based appliance platform introduced with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 5.0. The Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition supports the world-class Cisco Unified Communications Manager call processing function and Cisco Unity Connection messaging. The applications are preloaded on the highly reliable 1 rack-unit-high Cisco Media Convergence Server platform. The software preloaded on the server consists of a single firmware image that includes the underlying OS as well as the call processing and messaging applications. By using a common set of system management and serviceability tools across the OS and multiple applications, the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition is designed to provide a consistent experience and to streamline the ongoing management and operation of a Cisco Unified Communication solution.
