Backspace key problem

the backspace key had stopped working in my HP pavillion laptop since while. I was fine with it since I was using the delete key. However, I am encountering a new problem now. My laptop does auto backspace. Example: when I am typing on word it tends to autobackspace everything and i tend to loose all the datas. Even when i am using internet , it auto backs to a previous page. This happens a lot frequently and i am tired of it. Does someone know how to fix this?

Im not quite sure what the problem is your describing.
But if its only happening when the MMC then that would suggest that there is something wrong on the MMC.
You should try formatting the MMC to see if that solves your problem.
Formatting your MMC will erase all data on it though.

My backspace key delete two characters in Firefox. How may I solve this problem?

Loose backspace key

Hi, this seems to be my fourth or fifth problem with my MacBook (I hope there aren't any more) but my backspace key seems to be worryingly loose. Is this the same on every MacBook?

No. Have it looked at if it's in warranty. The keyboard may need to be replaced.
If you've had a lot of problems with your MacBook (three or more repairs), call Apple Customer Relations and see if you can get the computer replaced. I got mine replaced after three repairs.

Backspace key, lack thereof

Okay, this is kind of silly, but I really need to know.
Made the move from PC to Mac and there is no Backspace key, is there a way where I do not have to go to the end of a word and then use delete?

I ran into the same problem. The delete key in the upper right acts just like the backspace key on a PC, in other words, go to the end of the word and it deletes from right to left. If you hold the Fn key while pressing the Delete key, it will delete from left to right.

Backspace key does not respond

This is on behalf of a lady friend of mine. Her backspace key does not work. And the "funny" thing is that the sound cannot be adjusted as well. It is completely stuck.
Anybody who can advice me?
She has OS X 10.6.8 installed, ans the Mac is approx 1 1/2 years old.

You could try to connect the external USB keyboard to the notebook in order to check if this keyboard button behavior will appear using external keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would work properly, then the problem is caused definitely by internal keyboard malfunction. In such case you would need to replace the keyboard.
Is you warranty valid? In case it is, the replacement could be replaced free of charge.

AR9.1 Rich Media Annotation TextInput and Backspace Key

I've put together a test PDF see:

that shows that the backspace key does not work as expected
for an a TextInput field in a rich-media annotation when
viewed with Linux AR9.1; at least not with my SuSE 10.3 setup.
There are a couple of other issues not alluded to in the test PDF:
(i) the /Widget used to toggle the attachments pane does not work
in fullscreen mode; (ii) the /Widget used to zoom out from
the rich-media annotation has /Normal, /Rollover and /Down
appearances, but only the /Normal appearance is drawn.

issue is being worked on and I'm guessing that you're
also aware of a similar problem with the enter key?
I agree that my non-Acrobat PDF might be deficient in some
way and it's also possible that my user preferences are
not quite right. But consider the following.
I re-jigged the test PDF such that the /Widget whose /R
and /D appearances were not activated now lies half on
the rich-media SWF and half on the background page.
Recall this is the /Widget that reads "Click to zoom out!",
which appears when the SWF is activated.
Interestingly, when I position the mouse over the /Widget
half that lies off the SWF (the right-hand half) then the
right-hand half does have its /R and /D appearances rendered.
But the left-hand half, the part that lies over the SWF,
is stuck with the /N appearance.
Following this observation, I re-jigged the /Widget to
print out the events its receives on the JS console.
And it seems that the left-hand half of the /Widget
is not getting /E or /X events, even though the
mouse correctly changes shape, but it does receive
/D, /Fo, /U and /Bl events. The right-hand half
receives all events as normal.
You can also try the following. Move the mouse over
the right-hand half of the /Widget, such that an
/E event is generated. Then move the mouse along
the /Widget towards the left-hand half: the second
the mouse reaches the left-hand half the /Widget
receives an /X event.
Therefore it looks like there is some inconsistency
in the event model when a /Widget lies on top of
a rich media annotation, or at least the behaviour
I'm observing is not hinted at in the document adobe_supplement_iso32000.pdf which covers rich-media
annotations.
Anyhow, I'll send you the original PDF as you requested
along with the modified one I describe above.

Does the issue occur when using all applications?
Do you see the same issue when you rotate the iPhone?
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802#faq5 provides tips for issues with the display not responding to touch.
You can try restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new phone. This would rule out issues with the iPhone software and backup.

SelectionChange for enter and backspace keys

Hello all,
Our VSTO addin needs to know the current selection so we can sync our taskpane with current selection. We are using the SelectionChanged event to register our taskpane synch routine. The problem is that this event doesn't fire on Enter or backspace key.
We are specifically interested in the scenarios where the Enter/backspace results in a paragraph change(para add on enter and paragraph remove on backspace of the last character in a para). It seems like a bug to me that SelectionChange wont
fire on backspace when the delete key does fires it.
Is there any other workaround to detect this paragraph change state?

The current object model does not have an event to be triggered when changing the content.
If you want to detect the paragraph changing, we could also use a global Timer to detect the paragraph changing of the active document.

Backspace key not working on SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 on Mac OS X 10.7.4

Hi,
I've searched around and found that the backspace and arrow key problem has been a known issue on 1.x versions of SQL Developer. In that version the fix was to reload the keyboard Accellerator bindings in Tools->Preferences->Accellerators. However, the Accellerator dialog isn't available on 3.2.2 version. Is there any other way to fix it? I know on some Macs, the keys work fine.

Hi Richard,
The Accelerator feature was renamed. Rather than
Tools->Preferences->Accelerators -> Load Presettry instead
Tools->Preferences-> Shortcut Keys -> More Actions -> Load Keyboard SchemeHopefully reloading in 3.2.2 will have the same impact as in the 1.x releases for your issue.

Safely switching focus during backspace key down event?

I have a simple form that I'm building. It has a variable
length list
of entries, and I'm using a TextInput for each entry.
Because the list is variable in length, I'm allowing the user
to
delete elements from the list. One of the ways they can do
this is to
press the backspace key when the cursor is in an empty
TextInput. I
am handing KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN and checking for the
backspace key,
to accomplish this.
The problem I am having is that after I remove the deleted
TextInput,
I want to leave the focus in the TextInput above. I can do
this using
'setFocus', and that works fine, however it seems that the
backspace
is still processing, and so after the focus is set, the
content of the
TextInput is delete which I don't want.
To get around this, I've created a one-shot timer with a 0ms
delay
which changes the focus after the KeyDown event has
completed.
My workaround is successful, but feels very heavy handed. Is
there a
better way to achieve the same effect?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I guess one of the way could be adding KEY_DOWN listener on
focus and removing it from other input fields at the same time.
adding/removing listeners is pretty fast.

Apple Wireless Keyboard and annoyance with fn and backspace key

Hi everybody,
Just took delivery of this beautiful Apple Wireless Keyboard but having only one problem with it. I've figured out how in System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Keyboard it's possible to check the box which allows the F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys but when it's checked I also have to use the fn key to make the Backspace key work like a normal backspace. If I don't use the fn key the Backspace key will eat any type in front of the curser instead of backing up and eating the type behind it. Why is this..? I mean the Backspace Key isn't even on the same row as all the F keys are so why am I having to use the fn key to change the function of the Backspace key..? Actually it would be nicer if the function of with or without the fn key was reversed. Anyone know how I can change that..?

Ahhh forget it..
I realized having that option checked made other keys do screwy things as well unless I used the fn key with them so I've gone back to using the fn key only when I need to use the F keys..

W520 Keyboard: Noisey (Backspace)-Key

A few weeks into using (well, configuring more than using, at this point) my new W520, I've become increasingly aware of (read: annoyed by) the sound (and feel) of my (Backspace)-key. It has a wee bit of a clatter to it. Given another thread I just read,‡ I guess I should count myself fortunate: other than the Backspace issue, I have no complaints about the keyboard.
One thing worth noting about the clatter sound(/feel): it occurs on the release of the key; not on the downward keystroke.
Another interesting point, a curious point, indeed, is that the clatter seems to vary a bit with repeated keystrokes; sometimes, there's no clatter at all. But usually, there's some... and again, the actual sound and feel of the key (upon release) varies a bit with repeated strokes.
Maybe this last point (the variation) wouldn't seem so odd to me if I understood the actual mechanics involved; i.e., the physical attributes of the mechanism.
In any case, I guess what I'm really looking for is any kind of feedback or suggestions.
Apparently, there's a way to lift up the keyboard (which I guess one has to do in order to add memory), and maybe if I did that, I'd discover some small piece of debris or something that's causing the problem.
Because the sound occurs on the upstroke, I'm thinking (perhaps, wishfully) that what I'm experiencing doesn't mean the longevity of the key's proper functioning is compromised. So, it's not so much that I'm concerned about key failure as I'm just annoyed by the sound.
Well, I guess that's it. It's the middle of the night, and beyond this, I'll just ramble.
So... any thoughts? I'm open to anything... including "Don't sweat the small stuff; you should just live with it." ...OR... on the other end of the spectrum: "If worse comes to worse, you could always swap in a new keyboard." Could I?

OS X Mail - Backspace key behaviour [Gmail]

Hello everyone!
I hust updated to OSX Mavericks and I noticed that the backspace key behaviour is changed in Mail.app using a GMail account (IMAP).
With Mountain Lion, when I highlighted a message and tapped backspace the software use to move that message in the GMail archive.
Now, tapping backspace is causing to move my messages into the "GMail trash".
I would like to set it the way it was on Mountain Lion since it was a great way to sort and archive my mail messages.

Just had this exact problem, hope I haven't been deleting for months. Couldn't find much help on Google so thought I'd post in the most relevant thread how I ended up getting it working:
1. Verify your Gmail settings: Go to Settings, then the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. Make sure "When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder:" is set to "Archive the message (default)."
2. In Apple Mail, go to Preferences, then the Accounts tab. Select the Gmail account and go to the Mailbox Behaviours tab. Uncheck both options under trash. Close the preferences window to make the setting take effect and click the Save button in the "Save Changes..." prompt. The trash bin should disappear from Apple Mail for that account.
Now when you delete a message it will still be under the Archive in Apple Mail, and in All Mail in Gmail, without going to the Trash on Gmail.

Just to add weight to the "it doesn't default to
[0]", on my installation it is [8] and I have never
had problems with the backspace.Interesting, if I do a clean install (just unzipping sqldeveloper-1.1.2.2579-no-jre.zip to a random dir, starting up sqldeveloper.exe, pointing it to my j2sdk and ignoring the 'migrate settings from previous release' dialog) the \sqldeveloper\system\oracle.ide.1.1.2.25.79 remains empty until I shut down SQL Developer.
During shutdown, 8 files are created in this dir, one of which is settings.xml. Low and behold the contents:
