"backspace" shortcut?

my backspace key is broken. I am wondering if it is possible to write a new shortcut for backspace (that is not ctrl x, or "cut") so that i do not need to get a whole new keyboard.

Why not just try replacing the key?

  • How Alt+Backspace shortcut works? (silly question)

    Hello,
Sometimes I'm reading a tutorial and they say I should use Alt+Backspace shortcut in order to fill the selection with foreground color.
But everytime I try that on a selection a floating dropdown menu appears (options: Restore, Move, Size, Minimize...)
It's silly, but I would like to know how to use that properly.
    Thanks,

That's the right shortcut on windows to fill a selection with the foreground color.
Are you talking about that menu popping up on the top left of the photoshop window?

  • R60 shouts at me when pressing [ctrl+alt+backspace] in openSUSE

Whenever I try to restart the X server in openSUSE 11.3, as I like to do with the [ctrl+alt+backspace]-shortcut, I just get a loud *beep* from the onboard speaker and nothing happens. I tried booting into Windows and pressing the key combination, same thing.
    Help?

Are you getting the same beep from Windows?Or is it only OpenSuse?
Every time I restart the system my 3000H system also gives me a loud beep from the board.Your X server might not be supported by the GPU which is causing the system to give out the beep sound..

  • Command+backspace issue

    Hi there,
I've been trying to send files to the trash through the command+backspace shortcut, but from some days 'till now, it only says to me that the file will be deleted immediately (with a confirmation dialog box), instead.
I've defaulted all of the shortcut options in the prefs panel, and can't find anything else on the web to solve this. I'd like the shortcut as it was!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Mountain Lion Messages App - Shortcut Keys

Question refering to Messages on Mountain Lion
Is there a shortcut key to close conversations?
Is there the ability to disable confirmation dialogues when closing a conversation?.
    Thank you.

There is an answer, but it's because of some dumb wording by Apple here that you, I, and possibly others are confused..
When you first open Messages, the shortcut key to "Close Conversation" is cmd+backspace.  However, pressing that shortcut, Messages asks you if you want to delete the conversation and warns this cannot be undone.
Hey Apple, closing and deleting are not the same thing!
    Before
    SOLUTION
Go to preferences in Messages and check "Save history when conversations are closed."
    After
Now the cmd+backspace shortcut is revealed for what it really is: "Delete Conversation."
The real keyboard shortcut to "Close Conversation" is: shift+cmd+W
And no, it doesn't ask you to confirm.
    Cheers!

  • LR5 - Selected image does not display in the Develop Module

I recently upgraded to LR5 from LR4.1.   I have seen on several occasions where the selected image in the Develop Module does not appear.  I can move back to the LIbrary view and the image appears, but when I switch back to the Develop Module, the image disappears and only a black box appears (dark grey really).   This seems to happen after I have deleted flagged files using the ALT-Backspace shortcut.    This has happeded when  I deleted while in the Library and Develop Module, but does not happen every time.   I have disabled the "Show photo on Mouse Over" view option.  Prior to that, the preview window shows the selected or moused over photo.
The only thing I can do to get the develop module to work again is to restart Lightroom.  I've seen no other posts regarding this issue and it is very annoying when trying to go through 4000 photos!   I can find no place to report bugs, so I am posting this here.

i found LR5 the most bug infested LR version ever.
i "use" it only as test setup.
real work i still do with LR 4.4.

How does this issue get reported to Adobe as a bug or is the fact that it is in the forum take care of that?
nope.. in this forum you will only hear that this is not such a big issue and will be fixed soon.
honestly im waiting for some bugs to be fixed since v3.6..... and i gave up on reporting new bugs to adobe.
i just hope that some day they will be fixed.
there is a text layer bug in photoshop i reported back in 2011 and that´s still in photoshop CC.....

  • KDM: Logging off puts me in console mode

I have a weird problem with KDM.
Well, I run KDM from inittab using init 5. There is not conflicting entry of KDM inside rc.conf to cause an issue I had read about in this forum.
Now, ctrl+alt+backspace shortcut is enabled to restart X. When I do it, X restarts normally the way it should and I am back in KDM window.
But each time I use inbuilt logoff function in Xfce4.6 or KDE 4.3, I end up in console mode. Apparently I am still in init 5, because once I manually login and do a
    sudo init 5
Nothing happens. But if I do
    sudo init 3
    I get a switching message.
    After that I do a
    sudo init 5 && exit
So that I can get back to login manager window.
Now, why does this happen ? I hate having to manually restart the login manager each time I use logout to switch to another user.
And yeah, is there any theme in KDM which shows a list of users I can login as ?
How do I ensure that only one instance of a user is logged in at a given moment and if I lock screen and go back to menu and login again, I go back to the same instance ?

Are you, by chance, using KMS with Intel Graphics?  If so, check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log for signs that Xorg crashed when you logged out.
If you find such evidence, you might try (As a work around):
edit /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and find the block labeled :
    [X-:*-Core]
and add a line that reads:
    TerminateServer=true
This forces KDM to restart the Xorg server after you log out.  I think the original purpose of this option was to force the clean up of memory leaks, but it works well for this purpose.

  • Backspace key: Can it have a shortcut?

Since making changes to my Custom Set of Keyboard Shortcut commands I seem to have lost the backspace key's function of deleting frames, though the key still deletes in type mode and works like it should in, say, Illustrator. I can't recall how I might have used the key itself as a shortcut, but use it I must have, because it's okay when I change back to Default mode. In my Custom Set I've double-checked Keyboard Shortcuts and gone through the Product Areas I remember changing such as View Menu, Tools and View and Navigation but can't track it down.
    All suggestions most welcome.
    Michael

Sometimes when a key doesn't work as you expect and you think you may have used it as a shortcut, a very simple way to check is to select any command at random and input that key as a new shortcut. InDesign will tell you where you've used it, though you may have to try another Context.
    (Just don't hit Assign, eh.)

  • Looking for a keyboard shortcut for Back. Neither Cntr + left Arrow or Cntr + backspace work.

The Firefox help on this subject titled "N900 Keyboard Shortcuts" indicate that the either Cntr + Left Arrow or Cntr + Backspace equates to hitting the "Back" button ... Neither work. Perhaps this advice is a remnant from an earlier version that no longer works ... This is an important shortcut for those of us with repetitive motion strain ... Or for using a touch pad ...
    Thanks

You can use the Backspace key to go back (above the big Enter key).
    or
Hold down the Alt key and then press left arrow while still holding down Alt.

  • Backspace, enter and space shortcuts don't work.

Backspace doesn't work for back; space doesn't work for page down; return doesn't work for SnapBack. I've no idea what caused this problem.

    ?!
    Problem gone.

  • Anyway to Disable Backspace as a shortcut for going back?

Sometimes, when posting on a forum like this ... or really anywhere on the web, if I accidently leave a text field (after spending way too much time writing something really witty of course) or accidently hit backspace, Safari 5.03 goes back. I know it's my fault for screwing up, but losing my work over a stupid mistake really *****. Anyway a cluts like me can disable BACKSPACE as a short cut for going back in Safari??? It's driving me nuts, but I don't really want to use IE or any other browser.

yes (i should have been clearer), with that option set hitting backspace puts you back in a text field (if there is one) instead of going back one page. it should work properly once you've reloaded any pre-existing pages but do let me know if there are cases* where it doesn't.
*it obviously doesn't work where safari extensions are disabled, like on extensions.apple.com.

  • I want to customise my shortcut keys, especially "backspace = back"

I do a lot of in-browser typing, and I'm really sick of the shortcut for the back button, because if I accidentally click out of a text or form box, it shoots me back a page or more and I lose my progress. I've tried to find shortcut settings in the Tools menu, but I can't seem to. How do I at least turn the shortcut keys off? I never use them, and they're more hindrance than help.

  • I have Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.1, when I am typing text such as email when I hit the shift key and certain letters it activates the shortcut keys and is very annoying how do I get this to stop?

This has happened multiple times. While typing email and also in forums. This is a new computer with Windows 7 so not sure if problem is something in Windows or with Firefox. Sometimes when I hit Shift and t a new tab will open, or shift and w will cause a pop up to come asking if I want to navigate away from this window. I have had other things pop up as well but not sure what they were or what keys I hit that caused them to show up. It tends to happen as I am typing faster. But when this happens, such as the shift t thing, I will close the tab and go back to what I was typing. Watching carefully that i am not hitting the ctrl key I hit shift t and the new tab will pop up again. The only way to get this to stop is to hit the esc key then I am able to to type fine again until it starts again. Once I was typing and my entire text highlighted and disappeared and I lost everything, so yes it can be extremely annoying. Hopefully someone can help me to solve this problem.

Yes, I have rebooted the computer several times. Logged off for the night and login this morning.
    It still is happening.
It happens when I type a message in yahoo; when I login to yahoo, both trading platforms and several other applications.
After a while it stops - don't know if there is a key I strike that deactivates what every it is that is making the the keys perform the shortcut function. Sometimes by hitting ESC more than 4 times but less than 10 seems to stop it (or so it appears as the next time I type a msg in Yahoo mail the keys don't activate the toolbar "edit" function. Sometimes striking the backspace key over and over again when there is nothing to delete appears to stop it from happening.
Anymore suggestions? Greatly appreciated. Tired of retyping 3 or more times. Have gotten to the point where I type in word or notepad and paste my username and password into the appropriate areas or into the message area.
    Will capture image next time.

  • How can I disable 'backspace' key from navigating back a page?

Several times over the last couple weeks, I type up a very well thought out response on Facebook in political conversations with friends. An hour or two into my work, I hit backspace with the intent of editing what I wrote (maybe after I scrolled or something, so maybe I unintentionally took the edit window out of focus). The navigator takes me back a page and I lose my two hours of work. Infuriating! Shortcuts with the ability to wipe out two hours of works should be disable-able. Not only that, I feel that is an unsafe shortcut for this very reason, and would have added a SHIFT modifier key or something like that. I think I invented a cool word: disable-able.

You can set the Integer pref <b>browser.backspace_action</b> to <i>2</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the backspace action. BTW Shift + Backspace does the reverse: going Forward if possible, so that is taken as well.

  • Is there a way to use Frame 8 keyboard shortcuts in 9?

I understand that there is a new UI, but my coworker wants to remain on Frame 8 if he can't use the shortcuts he's been using for 15 years (muscle memory lasts a long time). Is there any way (a preference maybe) to use the F8 shortcuts? I saw a trick for scrolling through paragraph styles starting with the same letter using the down arrow. (Hello Adobe? It is not reasonable to suggest having headings names start with a unique letter. There are huge and current books that have all their tags already. And there are only but so many letters.) If there is no way to use F8, is there a table somewhere of what to do now?
    Thanks so much.

So here are a few specific problems:
    1. Ctrl 8 and 9 make you use the down arrow key to cycle through letters. How would I change the ini file so that I could just keep hitting the letter?
    2. When I start typing something and then realize I've hit the wrong letter, it seems I need to backspace to the begining to correct it. I used to be able to just start up with the correct letter.
    3. Sometimes I hit Ctrl 9 and I do not get the small box where the style names display, I only see the arrow that I then need to mouse over to and click to list the styles. Why is that?
    4. If I accidently hit Ctrl 8 when I wanted 9 (for example), I have to hit escape and then start again. Previously, hitting the correct sequence twice would get me where I wanted.
That's all I can think of now...I appreciate the assistance...jen
The operation of the menu that opens with Ctrl+8 and similar commands has changed in recent releases. It's not clear if it's due to a bug or a design intention. You can ask for a bug fix or feature enhancement at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form.
Search FrameMaker help for Keyboard Shortcuts for lists of useful shortcuts. Even if you open a menu with a different shortcut - say Escape q p, or Escape q c (quick paragraph or character format list) instead of Ctrl+8 or 9, the menu still misbehaves.
I haven't tried typing a different shortcut with the Escape-key method, while in a "wrong" one, to see if that works as you remember the Ctrl+ method, but it's more keystrokes than typing Escape.
    It's not customizable in maker.ini.
There are third-party keystroke recorder utilities that may be useful. For example, you could invoke a shortcut that opens a Ctrl+ or Escape-key menu, then types the specific command you want (without mis-typing) and executes it. Search for keystroke macro recorders on Google.
