How can i backup Address Book & iCal using TM?

just back up your whole computer and those things will be backed up along with everything else. Time Machine is not well suited for cherrypicking just a few things to back up and it's a bad idea anyway. if you insist on backing up just those two things back up homedirectory/library/application support/address book and homdirectory/library/calendars.

  • Unable to synchronize the Address Book on the BB Device with Outlook Software 2010 Contacts

    Enviroment :
    Device Black Berry Bold 9700
    Back Berry Device Software V6
    Cause of problem :
On the BB Device there are 2 Adress Books with the same name.
The first one with 109 elements and the flag for wireless synchronization
The second, which is of most importance to me since it includes my business address book, contains 1837 elements and does NOT have the flag for wireless synchronization.
Whenever I  try to synchronize the BB Device with the PC , using Black Berry Device Software on my Windows 7 based PC and Outlook 2010 Application Software, only the first Adress Book appears active.
I tried to solve the problem through the BB Support Forum (see link below)
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB1...
and regretfully I found out that no solution are available so far.
This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
The suggested Work Around doesn't work.
Since both address books could be cleaned but not erased, it is impossible to delete the first address book and subsequently synchronize the right data .
I tried to synchronize the BB Device with the Windows contacts but the result is the same: the synchronization works only for the first (small) Address Book.
Another bit of info, to worsen the situation: last week the HDD (internal disk) on my PC crashed, therefore I lost all my data; as a result, the only correct Address Book  data available is inside the Black Berry device (larger list, which is the second, as stated above) , thus I absolutely need to recover all the 1837 addresses included, since they are vital for my business work.
I need your help to solve this situation caused by an evident Black Berry Software bug.
    Thanks in advance

I do not receive any suggestions to solve my problem.
After 6 month the problem is very urgent, my business address book is vital for my work.
I have only the copy on the Device Black Berry Bold 9700 and I absolutely need to have a copy of the address book on my computer.
Do you have solved the bug.
I need a quick answer and a final right solution
    Thanks

  • Backup address book and transfer to another account wont work !

I have 2 accounts and i want to transfer the address book info to the other account (on the same computer)
i used export from address book and saved it to the shared folder. I then found that there was a folder ico with a red explanation mark in the folder and could not access it.
So I went back to the original account and changed the persmissions and ownership of the backup file to match the account I was trying to import it into and the folder with red explaination mark had now changed but it still wont import it.
any ideas on how to do this.. it almost seems that if you backup an address book then it can only be used on the original account even after changin the ownership and persmissions
this sure seems wierd. I amanaged to get my email folder across and account details onf my mail across.. so what the heck is up?

    You're welcome.
I'm not sure how Export and Backup terminology is confusing.
The export function can export all contacts as a single vCard file or as a separate vCard file for each contact which can be used to import into other email client address books as long as a vCard import is supported. Not sure why this didn't work as you tried.
The Backup function creates a backup file of all Address Book data which can be used by the Apple Address Book only via File > Revert to Address Book Backup.
I always create an Address Book backup before adding to, removing or making any significant changes to Address Book data.

  • Problem reverting to backup/address book archive

I created an address book archive on my home computer (desktop), transferred that backup file to my laptop, and tried to revert my address book on the laptop to the new backup file. it doesn't work. I'm using OS 10.5.7 on the desktop, and 10.4.11 on the laptop... is that why the backup won't install on the laptop? do they need to be the same OS? I have the same problem with my ical backup. My ical and address books are up to date on my desktop computer, and I really want to put all that info on my laptop as well. is there another way to go about this? please help, thanks!

    Greetings,
If memory serves me, Address Book for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 are different versions, so you can't overwrite one with a backup from the other. If you want to get the contacts from the 10.5 version into the version for 10.4 on your laptop, you would need to open Address Book on your Desktop, select the All group and drag it to your Desktop to create one vCard with all your contacts in it.
Then you can transfer it to the laptop, launch Address Book on it, then drag & drop the vCard onto Address Book to import those contacts.

  • How do i eliminate duplicates in address book/contacts across multiple devices?

i have old iMac G5,  iPhone4; recently added new iMac, iPad2, & Time Capsule, so i have multiple contacts & address books that i need to consolidate without having 3 duplicates of the same person every time i update? Please help?  Thank You!

Since upgrading to iPhone 4S and using iCloud, I have eliminated the duplicates in the address book, but not the calendar. Once all devices were setup for iCloud, I had duplicates in address book and contacts on my iPhone. So in settings on the iPhone for iCloud, I turned off calendar and address book. After a few minutes I turned those back on. Then, it synced with iCloud and no duplicates. At least in address book. The calendar continues to display duplicate appointments.
It's frustrating. Maybe all of us Apple users just don't know how to do this corectly. But it seems like a bug. Otherwise, why not address the confusion in the marketplace and post online training for how to sync all your devices without creating duplicates. Since that solution/training has never surfaced, I say this is a long standing bug in the system and Apple has never figured it out. It remains one of the few complaints I have about Apple. Wish they would get it right.

  • What is the best way to backup Address Book to external HD?

    Hello there
I would like to backup my Address Book on an external HD. How do I go about doing and what's the best way to doing it?
I have a vague idea but not sure if it's the correct folder to drag to the external HD. I went to ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book. My question is this: Is that Address Book folder the correct one to drag to the external HD? Am I missing other important folders to drag along to the external HD in order for both the Address Book folders to be the same in my internal and external HD?
    Thanks in advance!!

It would copy the information into a single file... The same as if you wanted to share your contacts with someone else-you could email the vCard to them, they would import it and have the all the same contact information imported into their address book.
For your own use, it's pretty much the same and works through the File>Import>vCards option in AddressBook.

  • Backup Address Book with AppleScript

    I'm using Address Book : Version 4.0.3 (483)
I try to make a script to backup the address book (database), theis line doesn't do anything : tell application "Address Book" to save addressbook
I try to use the GUI but again it doen't work :
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application process "Address Book"
    set its frontmost to true
click menu item "Sauvegarder le carnet d'adresses" of menu "Fichier" of menu bar item "Fichier" of menu bar 1
    delay 3
click button "Enregistrer" of sheet 1 of window "Carnet d'adresses"

In English Fichier = File & "Sauvegarder le carnet d'adresses" = "Back up Database" (menu item) and "Enregistrer" would be in english "Save"
    Thanks for your Help.

  • I Need to build a database/booking and dispatch system that intergrates with iCal, Address Book and all Apple device's What would be the best Way.

    Hi
Can anyone give me some useful information on the best ways to design and build a database/booking & dispatch system that can be intergrated through ical, address book and available on my macbook, ipad & iphone and all accessed through icloud.
I started my own chauffuer Service a year ago as an independent. it's becoming a massive bore that most of my time is spent taking down information, checking if i am available for clients and with alot of diary checking and repeatative entries and email ping pong and invoicing, what i want to do is concerntrate on advertising and marketing and using my time off for R & R
What i would like to do is access my information in an app and automate most of the processes like
assigning the job to the client with intergration through iCal and Address Book
be able to email confirmation through mail with an invoice produced through numbers or excel
payment is already done through payleven mobile and must be done in person so i'd rather keep that seperate to all processes apart from a tick box to say it has been paid for.
I have been looking at all options  FileMaker, Bento, Automator, Apple Script. to be frank im no expert and am a little confused as to what to do any advice would be greatly recieved.

    Hi,
I would suggest that is going to be an involved and complex process.
I would personally look into some of the invoicing and time scheduling software available and see if any fit your needs.

  • How to backup Address Book

I have more than one list in my Address Book. How can I back up each list or all lists, put them on a flash drive.

You go to Tools-Export in the Address book menu and export the book to the file type you want.
You have to do this for each different address book that you have.

  • HT2486 How to backup address book

How to back up address book

The addressbook can be exported to vCard if you want a crossplatform compatible backup that can always be reused.  Just use the vCard export functionality that is built in after selecting all the addresses you wish to export.  Separate the vCards into their own folders that you wish grouped together, so you can rebuild it.  You can also backup the Users -> yourname -> Library -> Application Support -> Addressbook but then that's only reusable in Apple's Addressbook versions the same or newer than the one they were created in.

  • Address book - mobile sync mishap

I was experimenting with the Address book sync with my Nokia 6822 and managed to sync successfully my contacts from the phone to the computer. Then I deleted all the contacts that had been recently synced, so I could do it again in a way that would allow me to create different smart folders.
I then tried to sync again and only then I realized I was erasing my entire contact list on my mobile as well. I managed to interrupt the sync and lost only a couple of contacts, but now I'm afraid to try and sync it again and lose them all, which will most likely happen.
What should I do? Delete the device and add it again? Reset my sync history? Give up and feel happy I only lost 2 contacts?

What I want is to be able to re-sync the contacts from my phone to the computer.
There isn't really an option to do this - especially not an easy, guaranteed way of doing it.
Does your phone have a built-in backup contacts function? If so, use that just in case anything happens.
    You have 2 options:
    1) Send the existing Contacts from the phone as vCards via Bluetooth, then import these into Address Book. Backup Address Book, then reset the device and sync again.
    2) Click "Reset sync history" in iSync preferences, then hopefully you should get the option to "Merge" or "Overwrite" the phone on first sync. Choose the Merge option and hopefully Contacts in both the Mac and Phone will be merged together. This option isn't always successful though, so backup first if you can.
Once you have all your Contacts in Address Book as you want them, back them up, then Reset the Device and allow iSync to sync everything back to the phone.

  • Is HP Device Manager Supporting Apple Contacts (Address Book) in OS X Yosemite when computer faxing?

    Hi,
I am trying to select best possible printer for our small office which will let us use os x's power and integritiy to do a lot with less effort. Hp Office Jet Pro X576 and 8630 look very promising to me.
As a power user, recent mac switcher I was digging hp support forums to make clear if Apple Contacts (Yosemite 10.10, former Address Book) supported in Hp Device Device Manager when Faxing. I have found some shared screenshots but no Apple Contacts icon available near fax options dialogue boxes.
Imagine that I have 4000 contacts on my mac those nearly all have fax numbers along with emails. Based on legal and business purposes faxing is essential to us. Finally, I wouldn't like to enter fax number manually every time faxing.
    Thanks

  • Can't import address book backup...

    Hi,
I used to have 10.5 installed on my computer but it was very slow... So I decided to make a clean install of 10.4.
I backed up my address book contacts from 10.5 but when I try to import them back to 10.4 nothing happens and the computer plays the default alert sound.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Thanks BDAqua...
Sorry for not responding earlier, I supposedly configured my forum account so it would let me know if someone posted something on my question, yet I didn't received any notification about this... Maybe it ended up in my spam folder.
    The scenario is this:
I had 10.5 and used the backup address book function... It created a file with a .ABBU file with the name Address Book 2008-04-05 and 1.2 Mb of size.
Then back in 10.4 the Mac recognized the .ABBU file and displays the address book icon on it... When I double click it, Address Book App opens and warns me that I'm about to replace the contents of my Address Book with the contents of the Backup. I click OK and it does nothing but to play the default alert sound.
Recently I opened the backup file in a friends computer using 10.5 and it opens and restores the contacts just fine, the problem is that I want my computer to have them in order to put them in my iPhone and be able to use them in Mail.
So, other that upgrading again to 10.5 (that is a no-go since my laptop is dreadfully slow on it) and opening my backup file on a 10.5 machine, export each and every one of my 150+ plus contacts as VCards and then reimporting them back to 10.4, is there any other way to get this working?
    Thanks!

  • How do I transfer an address book from one computer to another?

I'm trying to transfer an address book from my G4 to my Imac G5 and can't seem to figure out how to do it. I've tried exporting out of one, but the other doesn't read it. These computers are not connected so I'm transferring via cd.
    Thanks,
    Dick Skover

    Hi Dick
If they are both running Tiger
Use "Backup Address Book" in Address Book > File to make a copy then
"Revert to Address Book Backup" on the iMac
I use this for backing up both Address Book and iCal as a matter of course (it is the Apple recommended way in the Help files) I put them into a folder in my "Documents" and clear old copies once a month. If you use .Mac I would certainly recommend it seeing the problems with data loss some folks have had.
