Backup and restore questions

Hi,
Just wondering that if I upgrade my 6300 to a newer nokia model will I be able to restore contacts from my nokia backups to the new phone?, dont really care about anything else.
Regards.

Hi hbarca,
Yes you can restore the old backup to the new phone.
All you need to do is attach the new phone to the computer and PC Suite, and press the restore button, selecting the old back up file.
Hope this helps.
My posts are my opinion and in no way the direct views of Nokia.

  • Exchange Server 2013 backup and restoration question

    Good afternoon
    I am wondering if I can pick people's brains here if that's not too much trouble.
    I have recently implemented an Exchange 2013 environment with 3 servers (two multi-role CAS & MBX physical machines, and one further virtual CAS server). Everything is working correctly and mail-flow is fine. My question relates to backup and restoration
    procedures. I am running a single Database Availability group with the two multi-role servers members of the this group and I have one Mailbox Database on the DAG, passive on one member and active on the other. Failover has been tested and this is functioning
    as expected.
    The backup environment I have implemented is as follows. I have utilized a separate Microsoft DPM 2012 server that runs a nightly Bare Metal backup on both multi-role servers with a retention range of 14 days and I have protected the DAG using DPM with a
    nightly full-express backup and 4 hourly syncs on one of the multi-role servers. Furthermore the Mailbox Database is protected, again nightly with a copy-backup.
    I am confident I know what to do should the mailbox database become corrupted or lost or need to be restored for one reason or another (it would just be a case of restoring the backed up mailbox database using DPM to a pre-created recovery database), what
    I am not quite so sure on is what I would do should I lose one or both of the multi-role CAS and MBX servers (the third CAS I am not so worried about as it is not used for incoming mail flow from the internet and we really only use it for ECP as we did not
    want to expose this to the internet). I wonder what process should follow to restore my Exchange servers (I know how to perform the Bare Metal recoveries using WSB) and what configuration would be required after restoring the Bare Metal backups.
    I know this is a reasonably long question but if anyone has any advice for me I would appreciate it greatly in the unlikely event something goes horribly wrong with my Exchange environment.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Yes, Most of the configuration settings are stored in AD. Mail data and personal related data are store in Mailbox DB. We just need to take consideration of these two points.
    Thanks,

  • Time machine backup and restore question

    Can time machine (which is on a case-sensitive formatted hard drive) which backs up a case sensitive partition, restore to a case insensitive partition?

    See Pondini's TM FAQs, for starters.

  • Can I backup and restore my itunes media using a hard drive?

    Can I backup and restore files if I used a hard drive?
    I do not want to backup my entire itunes library of >200 GB to individual CDs and DVDs, if I can help it; it will take forever. Hence the above question.
    Thanks!

    The answer to your question is yes, though anyone who posts to this group would not be asking that question. I think you might be looking for the iTunes discussions group?

  • Reformatting Computer's Hardrive: Need help with Backup and Restore?

    Hi,
    I'm getting ready to reformat my hardrive and I'm backing up all of my files. All apps will be reinstalled after the drive is formatted.
    I have a ton of music that I've purchased from itunes and mp3s that I've ripped from my CDs in my main itunes folder. I will backup this folder (if necessary). Do I need to back up the licenses? If so, where are they stored? Or, what's the best and most efficient way to go about this backup and restore process? If my Ipod has all my music/videos, will it just copy all the music/videos back to my newly reformatted hardrive while maintaining the original folder structure? I assume I will have to install a fresh copy of itunes first. Also, I'm worried about the licensing for the purchased music. Is there something special I need to do with these files?
    I appreciate it if someone can give me the detailed steps to go about this without issue. I'm thinking this is a pretty easy question to all the techies out there...
    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Back up or copy the iTunes folder. There are no licenses to worry about, buy Deauthorize your computer in iTunes before you reformat. After you restore everything play one of the songs you purchased from the iTunes Store and enter your Apple ID and password to Authorize your computer.

  • RMAN backup and restore for Disaster Recovery

    Hi Guys,
    I am very new to Oracle and have a question about RMAN backup and restore feature. I am simulating a disaster recovery scenario by having two VMs running oracle 11g, say hosta and hostb, hosta is sort of production db and the other a disaster recovery db (one that will be made primary when disaster occurs). My goal is to backup production db using RMAN and restore it on the other machine. For some reason when I restore the db on hostb, the command restores the previous backup but not the most recent one e.g. I took a backup yesterday (09/20) and applied it to the hostb that worked fine, but when I try to apply a fresh backup from today (09/21) it always picks up the old backup. Here's a dump of the screen:

    Thanks guys, I really appreciate all your help here. I redid everything all over again to get all the information you guys wanted. Since I noticed that more eyes are looking into this I am going to reiterate my steps one more time followed by specific answers to questions. My first backup on Host B is located under ..../restore_db/backupset whereas the subsequent one is under .../restore_db/backupset/backupset2.
    I take backup on Host A using:
    rman target /
    backup as compressed backupset database plus archivelog;
    backup spfile;
    quit;
    I restore the backup on Host B using:
    set dbid=13732232063;
    startup force nomount;
    restore spfile to '/oracle/app/dev/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/spfileforums.ora' from '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset/o1_mf_nnsnf_TAG20110928T171830_787gbpxh_.bkp'

    restore controlfile from '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset/o1_mf_ncsnf_TAG20110928T171638_787gbkxn_.bkp'
    quit;
    /* restart rman here */
    alter database mount;
    catalog start with '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset' noprompt;
    restore database;
    recover database;
    alter database open resetlogs;
    quit;
    I take another backup on Host A using (notice no spfile backup this time):
    backup as compressed backupset database plus archivelog;
    quit;
    I restore the database on Host B using:
    alter database mount;
    catalog start with '/export/home/dev/restore_db/backupset/backupset2' noprompt;
    recover database;
    alter database open;
    quit;

  • Ideas for Providing User Level Data Backup and Restore

    I'm looking for ideas for implementing a user level application data backup and restore in an Apex app.
    What would be great is to have a user be provided an export file and a way to import this file. A bit overkill but hopefully never needed.
    Another option that is perfectly doable is a report that simply provides a means to create an export of the data. Since I already have an interface I can use an export to interface an export.
    Any thoughts?
    Hopefully I'm missing something already there for an end user to use.

    jlincoln wrote:
    "Do you mean "export" and "import" colloquially, or in the specific sense of the exp/imp/datapump utilities?"': I mean as in imp/exp Oracle utilities. Generally speaking, it would be neat to be able to export and import via an Apex an application. In this hosted environment I don't have that access but would this be a bad idea if you don't care about the existing data in the schema in which the data resides?I can envisage a mechanism using <tt>exp/imp</tt>, but since it requires <tt>dbms_scheduler</tt> external jobs and access to the file system it's highly unlikely to be possible in a hosted environment. (Unless you're doing the hosting?)
    Backup: Necessary for piece of mind and flexibility. I am working on a VB/Access user who does this today to get to the point when they can be comfortable with the backups occurring regularly and by the hosting site's DBA group.
    Restore: Like I said. I am working on a VB/Access user who does this today to get to the point when they can be comfortable with the backups occurring regularly and by the hosting site's DBA group. This is a very small data set. A restore would simply remove existing data and replace it with the new data.My opinion is that time would be better spent working on the user rather than a redundant backup and restore feature. Involve them in a disaster recovery exercise with whoever is hosting the environment to prove that their data is safe. Normally the inclusion of data in regular, effective database backups is sold as a major feature of APEX solutions.
    "What about security/privacy when this data ends up in uncontrolled environments?": I don't understand the point of this question. The data should not end up in uncontrolled environments. Just like the data in the database or its backups.Again, having data in a central, shared location protected by multiple levels of application, database, and OS security is usually seen as a plus for APEX over VB/Access. Exporting the data in toto to a PC/laptop that can be stolen or lost, and where it can be copied to USB drives/phones/email loses this protection.
    User Level: Because the end user must have access to the backup and restore mechanisms of the application.
    Application Data: The application data. Less than 10MB. Very small. It can be exported in a flat file downloaded by the end user. This file can then be used to upload and import via an existing application interface. For example.
    "I'm struggling to parse this for meaning.": When I say I have an existing interface I am referring to a program residing in the Apex application that will take data from a flat table structure (i.e. interface table), validate the data, derive data, and load into the target table structure.Other than the report export capability linked to above, there's nothing built-in to APEX that comes close to your requirement. If the data is simple enough that it can be handled in such a report, and you have a process that can read and recreate this export, then you have your backup/restore capability. If the data can't be handled in a simple report, then you'll need a more complex PL/SQL process to generate the file.

  • Full database backup and restore

    I have a doubt on the syntax for a full database backup and restore. For a single schema, the syntax for backup & restore is :-
    exp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 owner=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 STATISTICS=none
    log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_exp.log grants=y constraints=Y rows=y compress=N
    file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501
    imp <userid/password> file=<export dump file location> fromuser=<export user name> touser=<import user name>
    grants=y constraints=Y rows=y log=<import log file location>
    I hope, my question is clear.
    Please, help in solving the doubt.
    regards

    hi,
    thanks, for your answer. I took a export of one schema of the database. But, when I tried to import the schema to the destination database, it showed
    imported with errors with the existence of functions showing. The commands used by me for export and import are as follows:-
    exp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 owner=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 STATISTICS=none log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_exp.log grants=y constraints=Y rows=y compress=N file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501
    imp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 fromuser=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 touser=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 grants=y constraints=Y rows=y log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_imp.log
    Do, we need to drop the existing schema before importing or somethinig else. Please, help.
    regards

  • Backup and Restore - WSUS

    I will format a Windows Server 2008

    If I follow the procedure to do the full

    I will format a Windows Server 2008 server running WSUS 3.0, then I will install Windows Server 2008 again and will install WSUS 3.0 again , do not want to lose WSUS settings and folders updates.
    Can you please elaborate more on what this means and/or why you're doing this?
    Fundamentally reinstalling WSUS does not require a backup or restore operation -- unless you're planning on trashing the entire operating system installation -- which brings us back to the *WHY* question.
    It sounds to me like you're exploring Disaster Recovery scenarios, and if so, I'd suggest that your proposed scenario is not optimal, and involves an excessive amount of unnecessary work.
    More importantly, since you're choosing to do this on Windows Server 2008 (also perhaps worthy of a "Why?" question), you need to be acutely aware of the implications of doing a backup on such a server. In WS2008, backups are VOLUME-based only. Which means,
    unless you plan to heavily customize the installation environment to separate the WSUS database and content store from the operating system volume, your backup is going to be a Full System Backup -- in which case, reinstalling WSUS would be pointless, as a
    Full System Restore would get you the very same WSUS installation back.
    Furthermore, customizing the environment by putting the WSUS database and content store on a separate volume means you don't even have to do a backup/restore at all. Format the C: drive, reinstall Windows Server 2008, reinstall the WSUS Role and point it
    at the database and content store that still exists on the other volume.

  • Windows 7 Backup and Restore error code 0x80070013 The media is write protected

    I have had a problem using Windows 7 64-bit Backup and Restore on two different brand new PCs. After setting up a backup to a WD MyBook 500GB external USB hard drive and performing the initial backup succesfully, when it tries to do another backup I am
    getting a "The media is write protected, (error code 0x80070013) " error. I have even tried to reformat the external drive with no luck in solving the problem. In doing some web searching I did come across someone with a similar problem running a Windows 7
    beta last year that appeared to have be fixed by an beta update. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Please try this:
    1)
    Click Start and type: diskmgmt.msc in Start Search box.
    2)
    Open Disk Management, right click on the external hard disk.
    3)
    Click Properties and click Policies.
    4)
    Check “Better performance”.
    5)
    Click OK.
    Then backup again.

    When I tried to backup my files, I recieved an error
    (0x80070013) saying that media is write protected

  • Erasing old backups using Thinadvantage backup and restore software

    I want to erase 3 old backups on my external USB disk  using the Lenovo backup and restore software  (T500 with latest Lenovo toolbox and other software.)  Everytime I click on "delete" on the line of the backup it goes into "not responding" and forces me to exit the software using the task manager.   The software seems to be hung up, because when I want to disconnect the disk (safely remove hardware) I get a message that "the disk is in use by some software- shut down the software first".  OF course, nothing is running so I have to shut down the computer before disconnecting.   When I start up and reconnect the disk, I have problems disconnecting the disk, even if I haven't used it.
    Is the problem with the disk or with the software?   Would formatting the disk clear up the problem?
    Thanks in advance,    Ben .

    Bent500, welcome to the forum,
    could you try deleting the last backup made on it's own first and when it's finished the others.  Sounds a little crazy, but this works on most occasions.

  • How do you backup and restore Boot Camp?

    I thought I'd drop by and ask my perenial question: How do you backup and restore Boot Camp?
    I'm running Windows 7 if it matters, on a MBPn 17 2010 core-i7 and my daughter will soon be running on a MBP 13 2011 core-i7.
    I'm currently using SuperDuper! and Time Machine for the Mac side, and am backing up using Disk Utility capturing the entire Win7 partition but have no confidence that it will work if I restore it.
    What does everyone here use, and have you successfully restored your Windows 7 environment?

    For me, Paragon Hard Disk Manager Suite 2011.
    It contains Clone OS and other tools, for $49.
    I'm not sure Paragon Backup is "Apple Boot Camp" friendly or not.
    All available Paragon Hard Disk Management technologies are available in onesuite.
    Hard Disk Manager Suite 2011
    While lack of mention of Apple Boot Camp in System Backup may not be an issue, I have never used it. Paragon also has volume snapshot and other Mac OS tools - but then they are not all offered in a Suite to provide NTFS, HFS, Mac repair, etc.

    Lion will have to modify the partition tables to add its own Windows 7-ish system recovery partition, so I would definitely get a good backup strategy in place - and tested - ahead of time. Contrary to the "shouldn't have any impact" I always see an impact, and also re-initialize drives when a new OS comes out (though maybe wait for the .2 release).
