Backup appears to succeed but actually fails

We're trying to configure backups of our Hyper-V VMs that are hosted on an SMB 3.0 clustered scale out file server and we've run into a wall. DPM works for backing up SQL and Exchange with minimal problem, but it seems to silently fail when trying to back
up Hyper-V VMs.
When setting up a VM to back up, it appears as expected under the Hyper-V cluster's name and expands to show "HyperV" and then expands again to show "Offline\VMName" - the VM is turned off, so I believe this is as expected. We then continue
the setup using all default settings for the backup.
Once it is done setting up, DPM shows that the protection group is "OK" on the Protection tab and the server itself shows "OK" with the green checkmark.
Trouble starts if you look at the details for the VM. It is showing only 99.8 MB used (the VHD alone is over 30 GB on that particular VM). Further, if you go to the Recovery tab, the VM doesn't show up there at all.
If I then attempt to run a consistency check or create a recovery point, it fails saying it is in an inconsistent state. Running the consistency check again, so not fix the inconsistency.
The only logging I can see is an Event 33223 on the DPM server saying the "Backup job for datasource: Offline\VMName on production server: SCVMM VMName Resources.cluster.domain.com failed." I can't
find anything in the logs on the Hyper-V host that the VM is on nor can I find anything logged on the SOFS cluster that hosts the VM VHDX files.
How can I track down the source of this problem? There is nothing in the logs or in the errors in DPM pointing to the root issue.

Well, I'm apparently just blind.
Was pretty sure this was DPM 2012 R2. It in fact was not.

i have the exact error. I have CC for Photographer for quite some times now and it updates on and off normally until perhaps a couple of month ago. Lr updated ok. ACR updated ok. But Ps ended up with such error. I uninstall it and tried again, same error. There was one hit that mention about disabling McAfee anti-virus. Since my machine is managed by my company, I can only disable it by booting Windows (Win 7 enterprise) in Safe Mode. I did but the same error. Any other suggestion?
By the way, my other machine which I install exactly the same CC applications have no problems at all so I am quite sure it is my company machine that is causing the problem. I just need to figure out what is wrong.

Try deleting the book from the bookshelf in the iBooks app and then redownload it (assuming that it's still in your country's store) via the Puchased tab in the ibookstore in the app and see if you can then open it

Song appears to play, but actually doesn't

Often, when I'm listening to an album, the first song plays fine then the second song 'appears' to play (as the "progress bar" moves accordingly, based on the length of the song), but actually I can't hear anything. Again, all other setting are fine because I could hear the prior song normally - it just doesn't play the next song (but when I 'restart' that song, it plays fine - it's just very annoying to have to do.)

More news: I can ftp the files (startup.rtexe and startup.aliases) to the ni-rt/startup directory on the cRIO. When I reboot, the correct version runs. Assuming this procedure actually works and not some sort of time bomb, this issue is now only mildly critical- "just a routine emergency" as Ted Knight said in Caddyshack.
I'm running LabVIEW 8.5 under Windows XP. The controller is an NI-cRIO-9014. The chassis is a cRIO-9104.

SAX succeeds, but StAX fails

I tried to parse PubMed (a biomedical article database) with SAX and
also StAX. The last one failed, but I am not sure why (see Exception
below).
Why does SAX succeed and StAX don't? The XML document seems to be fine (see

Have you looked at the usual suspects, such as disk space, file permissions etc.?
Generally, if/when one of the tools fails, I run it from the command line. To figure out the command line, take a look in the log file and you'll see the command that it ran. By running it from the command line, you usually get a better idea of why it failed.

Is there a way to download the files form you iCloud backup? Not restore but actually download the files.

Is there a way to retrieve your backup files from iCloud? Wehn you backup locally, you can get to the actual backup files. Is there a way to retrieve these from iCloud? I want to actually examine the individual files.

Let me explain. I have an HP 2000 series laptop running Windows 7 Home premium with a 500gb hard drive. I currently have Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my computer but I uninstalled it first before downloading the trial of CC. I figured when my 30 day Photoshop CC trial was over I could go back and download CS4 with the CD again. I just wanted to try CC to see how different it was from CS4 and for some reason when I install it gets to 99% and when it finally reaches that 100% the error message comes up "Installation succeeded but patch failed." I have tried to hit the retry button a number of times and each time it still gives me the same error message. I tried restarting my laptop to see if this would fix the issue and it did not. What does this "patch failed" error mean and how do I fix this so I can download my adobe photshop CC trial?

Yeah for some odd reason out of no wear i am able to successfully download everything. Ill be honest i couldn't download everything properly while watching Netflix. ha Weird. If your iPhone is recognized by the computer, but not seen by iTunes, you may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service, as described in this article -

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

HT1296 My contacts are synching with Outlook 2007. The synch appears to complete but does not actually update the contact data.

I am having trouble with synching contacts between Outlook 2007 and iPhone5s via iTunes. The synch appears to work but data is not actually updating in either place.

The information I received gave me the courage to proceed with download to allow my handheld to sync with my new Outlook 2007 running on my laptop. It worked and I still seem to be able to sync with my Outlook 2002 version on my desktop system.
Next problem is that I have some reurring appointments on my calendar that will NOT delete. I have tried all methods I can find and nothing works. Even if I get to the point where it asks if I want to open "this occurrence or open the series" (then save and delete), the darned things seem to be lurking in the future. I have tried changing the end date or the recurrence schedule and it acts like I have entered them day by day and I can't successfully change the entire series. Any ideas?

I am receiving an identical error message as the original poster.
Let me give you some information on my setup and what I have already tried.
I am running a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller with SP1 installed. The system also runs MS SQL 2008 and IIS. All critical and recommended updates are installed.
The server backs up to a set of one of two external hard drives over USB 2.0 every night using Windows Backup. The external hard drives are encrypted using BitLocker and rotated offsite every week. We had no problems until 27 November 2013. On
that date I installed the November Windows updates and rebooted. Backups have not worked correctly since that time.
The server has two hard drives. The first one contains an 100 MB EFI partition (created for the IBM System x3200 M3 server EFI hardware although it appears to be entirely empty). The second partition contains the OS and the SQL databases. The
second hard drive contains shared data files. None of the partitions are close to being full.
The backup fails with the following error in the Windows Backup interface:
EFI System Partition: Windows Server Backup failed to get an exclusive lock on the EFI system partition. Detailed error: Access is denied.
The event viewer contains the error listed by the original poster (in the detailed view). The general view has this description:
The backup operation that started at <time> has failed with the following error code '2155348254' (Windows Backup failed to get an exclusive lock on the EFI system partition (ESP). This may happen if another application is using files on the
ESP. Please retry the operation.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
This error is thrown about 1 minute after the backup begins. After encountering the error with the EFI partition the backup exits and does not attempt to backup the other partitions.
The most interesting detail about the problem is that if I reboot the server and immediately perform a backup it completes successfully. If I reboot the server and wait approximately an hour before starting the backup it will fail. The backups
will continue to fail until the server is rebooted, at which point I if a backup is started immediately it will succeed but all future backups will fail. Therefore, it seems that Windows Backup has access to the EFI partition immediately after a reboot
but loses access for some reason close to the hour mark (this is an estimate based on a little experimentation but not an exact number).
Reading the little bit of information available online for this error message I have tried disabling our antivirus (Kaspersky) with no effect. I have also replaced the first hard drive in the server that contains the EFI partition with not effect (the
old hard drive imaged to the new hard drive with no errors, but backups still fail with the new hard drive). Backups fail with either external hard drive connected, so it is unlikely that the external hard drive is the problem. I have erased all
the Windows Backup settings including wiping all data on the external backup drive and created a new backup with no effect. I attempted to not backing up the EFI partition but it is required for the system state. I have reviewed all the Windows
updates installed in 27 November 2013 but none of the KB articles reference anything that I could possibly see related to the backup except for possibly the installation of .NET 4.5.1. However, I do not believe that Windows Backup uses .NET. 'Vssadmin
list writers' does not list any obvious errors.
At this point I am stymied except to think that I have some esoteric hardware failure. I have contacted IBM support who ran an extensive hardware diagnostic which showed no hardware issues.
I run several other similar Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, but none of them are on this model of hardware and none of them have an EFI partition. They all installed the same November Windows Updates. All of them are able to backup to external
hard drives without issue.
Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Missing Backups -- They are there, but Time Machine won't see them

I have backups going back to March 2008 on an external USB drive. Recently, there was an error message in my time machine status bar that a backup had been interrupted. After that, TIme Machine stopped backing up. I repaired my time machine backup disk using disk utility (and it found and repaired an error that there were an "Incorrect number of Access Control Lists"). I then reselected my external drive as my backup disk. Time machine is again backing up correctly. Moreover, my time machine preferences show that my oldest backup is, in fact, from March 2008, and when I mount the sparsebundle from the USB drive, all my old backups appear. However, when I actually enter time machine, none of the older backups appear. In fact, none appear at all. Only "today" is visible. Any idea how I can make time machine recognize and view all of my old backups?

I have a similar problem, with a slight twist.
Installed Time Machine January 2008.
The Apple store installed 10.5.6. November 2008.
Time Machine will only go back to the date of the 10.5.6 installation.
In console or terminal mode there are some directories and files are there on the backup HD. Although I have not found the original baseline backup yet from the console mode.
Apple support call in reported that a product specialist said the only thing to do was erase the backup HD and start over, that the 10.5.6 install had been a "new" install and the backups were no longer going to be accessible. One way to cut down on support calls is to to limit the support delivered.
Found several December 2008 references to changing permissions on "Mac address" based on ethernet card 16 byte file.
"Note the name of the file that begins with a period and has 12 characters in the name, such as ".001b6397c156" mentioned in the quote above"
This permission was r-------- to begin with. I did a chmod a+r and a+w.
A number of ways on the web to do that.
But this has not changed the behavior, but I have not rebooted yet.
