  • Took full backup before factory reset, but restore hasn't given much back

    Hi,
Due to having trouble (suspected software) with my home button, I got a full reset at the genius bar.
Because I knew that was likely, I took a full backup on my PC via iTunes.  iTunes said that doing so would take a complete copy of my iPad.
On bringing my iPad back from the shop, I restored from the backup, but I now only have a handful of apps and little if any of the content.
I had essential stuff also backed up via iCloud, so this isn't a disaster, but I'm rather surprised that a "complete" backup would actually only entail about 5% of what was on there, and I'm wondering whether I've missed something as I suspect the weak link here may be me.
    Any bright ideas?
    Many thanks.
    Tom.

  • How to recover iPhone file before factory reset?

Last night I got an updating message for iOS 8, my phone was low on battery so I plugged into an aftermarket cable to recharge while it updates. Next thing i see is a picture telling me to connect iPhone to iTunes. Now iTunes will not recognize my phone and it seems like I need to factory reset... I have so many pictures that are not backed up. How do I at least retrieve my files before factory reset it?
Why did iPhone ask me to connect to iTunes in the first place? Could it be the cable? It was only connect to a power source, which should not have interfere with the update in my mind.

Do you synchronise your device with iTunes? If so, then iTunes should have created a backup of the device's data when you last connected it to your computer. (You can view your backups in the Devices tab in the preferences window.) If you don't have a backup of your data, then I don't believe it can be recovered.
Your device is displaying the "connect to iTunes" screen because it's unable to start iOS due to a fault and therefore needs to be restored to its default configuration. Yes, I think it's possible that using an uncertified Lightning cable could cause an upgrade of iOS to fail.

  • Backing up Iphone data before factory reset.

I need to factory reset my wife's Iphone 5.  I followed the instructions that suggested I sync via Itunes.  In the process of doing so the sync acted funny during the sync.  So I repeated the process.  Now my wife's phone has pictures back on it that she had uploaded to you Macbook Pro to create space on her phone.  It also downloaded back to the phone all the categories she created on her Macbook Pro for her pictures.
Before I factory reset her phone I need to be confident I backed up her data correctly.  Especially her contacts and most importantly her pictures.
Can anybody help this Newb out?

Connect to itunes the device and backup the data with backup button. On the left side of backup button check on ''in this computer'' button and click backup and then dont backup apps. And restore your device by entering revocery or pwnd dfu mode and then restore.

  • HT1296 How can I save my stuff on my ipad before factory resetting it?

Apple said that I need to factory reset my ipad but how can I save my stuff because I payed for like 5 apps and and 29 songs. I don't want to delete them if I don't have to. Thanks

Do you use iTunes to sync your iPad with a computer ?
If so, do a sync before you reset your iPad and everything will be saved ready for the reset iPad.
If not, anything you paid for using the App Store will still be available to you.  The App Store knows you paid for them and will just put them on your iPad again.

  • Vista crashed, did factory reset, downloaded and installed Thunderbird, can I get messages and contacts from windows backup

Did a factory reset of Windows Vista. Had Thunderbird before, downloaded and installed after reset. I have a windows backup on external drive that was made about a week before the crash. Would the old contacts and messages be on this windows backup? If so, how to retrieve?

What you need is your Thunderbird profile folder. Check whether that's in your backup.

  • Factory reset or restore from backup?

I tried removing a Windows partition the wrong way and I am unable to restore to a single partition.  So I have the Macintosh HD and BOOTCAMP disks.  The data on the BOOTCAMP disk was erased using Disk Utility.  How do I restore to a single partition?  Factory reset or restore from backup?  My back up was from before I added the Windows partition but I have a gut feeling that's telling me this might not work.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It looks lke you erased the Boot Camp partition. To delete it, try opening Boot Camp Assistant. If it can't delete this partition:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the hard disk at the top of the sidebar.
    2. Go to Partition tab, choose BOOTCAMP on the bar and press - button to remove the partition.
    3. Press Macintosh HD at the bottom right corner, so you will be able to drag it to the bottom of the bar, and press Apply.
    4. The Mac OS X partition will be using all the space of your hard drive and the Boot Camp volume will have been deleted

  • Factory reset ipod 4g, and backup

Got an iPod touch 4g in December 2011, and it's now horribly slow and outdated. I read online that a factory reset cam help make the iPod good as new. I'd like to do this, but I want to make sure my photos, music, and notes are untouched. I do not have a computer, I plug my iPod into an outlet and I have a wifi connection.
I have checked with cloud storage to see what's going to be backed up, but I haven't done this before and I really want to make sure everything is okay. If I reset, do I just restore backup?
It's an 8GB model and on version 6.1.6.

    - Notes (and Reminders, Calendar, Contacts) are associated with your iCloud ID. Thus, as long as you use the same ID they will appear on the device after restoring
    - If you restore from iCloud backup all the photos taken by or saved to the iPod will be restored. Any photos synced to the iPod will not
    - Also, restoring from iCloud backup restore all your iTunes purchases like music and apps provided they are current available from the iTunes/App Store. Any songs synced to the iPod will not be restored.

  • HT1689 i made a factory reset and lost all my data.. i have never synced my ipad to any pc or have never made any backup in anyway... is there any chance that i can get my photos and videos back....

    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting photos only from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • Backup fail? factory reset? HELP!?

    Hi all,
I had to do a factory reset today so I did a backup beforehand. I did the reset to "as a new phone" then I did a second restore "from backup".
Problem is that my backup couldnt have worked and I have 2 phone numbers and a random collection of photos that are downloading from iCloud (not from backup)
I am devastated to loose me photos and its a real pain to loose my numbers, is there anything that I can do? I really dont know what happened, the backup I supposedly did isnt even showing up in the list but there are other backups from different times (all today after the backup I did manualy) but none seem to be complete?
    Thanks all,
    Kelly

However, if you synced after restoring you overwrote the previous backup.
If you look in iTunes on the iPhone summary page it should list your last backups to iCloud and your computer. What does it show?
If you see a current iCloud backup listed you can restore it by going to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. When that completes (it should only take a few seconds) you will be prompted to restore an iCloud backup.

The lack of response is deafening. Im guessing then that Firefoix has serious issues then?..well it'll be there loss if more, like me, opt for Internet Explorer and Google Chrome (both these browsers work fine with the latest Flash Player installed)

  • IPad 2 factory reset and backup recover issue.p

I had to perform a factory reset and recover on my iPad 2. iTunes only found a backup file from April of 2014. However I backup my iPad every month. I really need to recover my notes, contacts and pictures Without losing my current updates. I found a more recent backup on an external drive but iTunes overwrote it when I followed the self help instructions.  Also there are 4 Apple products being backed up on my PC and I do not know how to tell them apart. Has anyone ever had this issue and know of a valid resolutions?   Any assistance would be greatly appreciate.
    Thank you!

Hi Since ios 7 when you charge your iPhone or iPad it Automatically backs up To icloud you can do almost everything over your WiFi. So you should have a recent backup. Cheers Brian

You can't.  If there was a way to get into the phone and backup data without a passcode, what would be the purpose of the passcode?
Either think harder, or prepare to lose all your data.
