  • Urgent HELP needed: Problems transfer from Bold 9900 to Z10

    Dear helpdesk,
I've just received my new Z10 and want to transfer all data from my old 9900.
Using Link software seems to work fine.... until the copying from the 9900 is almost finished. Then I get the message "Data could not be copied from your device due to the following errors: There could have been a problem with the device or communication during the backup. Verify that the device is tuned on and connected".
Surely that IS the case.... I've already removed the old BB Desktop SW and reinstalled the Link SW.
    Without success unfortunately.
What do I do wrong/do I need to do to get my files copied to the Z10?
I am also wondering what would happen to the memos which I made using the 9900's MemoPad?
    Thanks for your swift help!

    Hello MarnixKerkhoff,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Forums.
Reinstall BlackBerry Desktop Software and try to backup the data from your BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 smartphone. Does the data backup successfully?
The BlackBerry MemoPad data will be transferred to the Remember application on the BlackBerry® Z10 smartphone.
Please let us know how you make out.

  • BB Bold 9900 Won't Backup, pls advise!

I just got a new MacBook Air -- I guess it's running Mountain Lion (10.8.4) - and I'm having problems backing up my Berry (didn't have any recent issues w my old computer).   Is there a flaw w the Mountain Lion software?   BB Desktop Software said I needed an update -- I tried three times and apparently it didn't take.  Help!

    Hey Silverlakerr,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
I suggest uninstalling BlackBerry Desktop Software and then download the latest version from www.blackberry.com/desktop then restart the Mac.
Then plug in the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone and attempt to create a backup and let me know if you receive any errors.
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • Home folder does not appear when trying to restore it from a backup

Hello Macintosh community, I hope you can shed some light on this very strange behavior I am experiencing when trying to recover a User's home directory from a Backup archive.
Recently, my MacBook internal hard disk stopped working (hardware failure of the disk itself, it does not spin any more). I had been making regular backups of the entire internal disk to an external hard disk.
I went to an Apple reseller and had them put in a new internal hard drive, and also purchased MacOS 10.5, which was installed on this internal drive.
I then installed Backup 3 onto this 10.5 system, and mounted the external drive with the backup to restore the contents of my home directory.
However, when opening the Backup application and trying to restore, it shows the entire contents of the hard disk to be restored, EXCEPT my home directory. Home directories of other users are visible, just not mine. So, Backup is effectively not able to restore my home directory.
In an attempt to restore other information, I decided to try to restore the entire contents of the backup to another location, and then manually retrieve any other files I needed from that restored backup.
During that restore, I thought I'd open a terminal window, and take a look at the /Volumes directory. In this directory, I noticed a volume named after the Backup Plan I was restoring from. This volume was not visible in the Finder, just in the /Volumes directory visible in Terminal.
Curious, I opened the Users folder of that backup volume, and to my surprise I found my home directory with its contents! So, from Terminal, I did a recursive copy from the 'missing' (in the Backup application) home directory to my internal disk, and lo and behold, it contained the data from my home directory!
So, I am thinking that my home directory exists in the backup, but that the Backup application is somehow not showing it.
The directory structure I copied using Terminal only contains the contents of my home directory the way it was when I created my initial full backup, and thus it does not contain any subsequent modifications, stored in the 1.5 years worth of incremental backups I created later. I guess I could manually go through all incremental backups, extract the home directories from each of them, and manually combine them into a single one, representing the final home directory before my disk failed, but that is the Backup application's job.
    My question to the forum:
    - Have any of you experienced a similar problem, and if so, were you able to recover the 'hidden' directory from the backup files, and how?
    - Maybe the Backup development team at Apple can provide some suggestions for how to retrieve my home directory from the backup files I have.
Obviously, it's important for me to get my files back. I did make backups on a regular basis, so I thought I did the right thing. It's especially frustrating, since I'm pretty sure the backup files contain the home directory, but I just can't get at it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    JK
Software versions of system before crash:
    - System version: 10.4 Tiger (up to date with the latest updates)
    - Backup version 3 (kept up to date with the latest updates)
Software versions of system after crash:
    - System version: 10.5 Leopard (up to date with the latest updates)
    - Backup version 3 (version as of the day of this posting)

The original install had 3 regular users, and I'm also seeing the "Shared" user when looking at the volume via Terminal. On my new disk, I created a user (with admin rights) with the same name as one of the users on the back up. When I log in as this user and then start Backup again, the home directory of that user is visible in Backup. However, the home directory I want is still hidden.
On a side note: I'm wondering whether these full or incremental backups are somehow similar to .dmg files, since they seem to appear in the /Volumes list while Backup is restoring from a backup file.
What I am doing right now, is to have Backup do a complete restore. But as soon as I started Backup, I opened a terminal window, did a cd (change directory) to the backup file (which appears as a volume). Then I copied the contents I of the home directory I want (via cp -R <home-directory-name> <destination>) to another hard disk.
Interestingly enough, I noticed that Backup, while it was doing the restore, opened a dialog indicating that it could not close the backup file because it was in use by me having a Terminal window open in one of its directories. As soon as I closed the terminal window, and allowed Backup to re-try, it successfully continued, opening the next backup file in succession.
As soon as it continued, I cd-ed into the home directory of that next backup file, and copied the contents of the home directory from it. So, I'm doing this for the home directory in question for all backup files. I assume that this gets me as many copies (versions) of the home directory as there are backup files.
The next thing I need to to after all backup files have been processed, is to manually try to consolidate all the extracted home directory versions into a single one. Yes, this sounds insane, and it is, but until I know of another way to solve this problem, it's the only thing I can do
What a fantastic way to spend a weekend!

  • Help restoring deleted note from iCloud Backup

I desperately need a note I deleted from my iPad. I followed the instructions I found on this forum and others by erasing and restoring yesterday's backup from the iCloud, The problem is that the iPad starts syncing the Notes back with the iCloud before I can get to the restored note. Of course once it syncs, it's deleted again.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And no, this device has never been connected to iTunes.

Is this what you did to restore from iCloud backup? The iCloud backup data should be older than your sync data.

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

Is there any of RIM representative here???
I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)
If you wanna make all of your customers run away because your and software have issues, you've made it
This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.
    Solved!

Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.

  • How can I transfer all my photos from mb aperture file to a external hdd?

The problem is it is taking too much of my internal memory therefore I want to transfer all my photos from mb to external. can somebody help me???

    More complete explanation:
First make a Vault to an external drive as backup.
    Then from within Aperture:
    File Menu--> Relocate Masters.
Next back up the  drive that the Masters were relocated to, because now you have a Referenced Masters Library so Masters are backed up (once) separately from the Library Vault backups.
In the future back up originals (once) on external drives prior to import into Aperture or any other images app. I cannot overstate how important that is, and various manuals, texts, etc. present workflows that skip that critical step. Also back up the Aperture Library using Aperture's Vaults, which are designed for that purpose.
A complete Referenced-Masters workflow follows. Note that for image security reasons Aperture is not involved until the end of the process:
    • Create a folder ("abc") for the incoming images. Easiest is to create the folder on the external hard drive where the Masters will permanently live, but Referenced Masters can be temporarily on the laptop's internal drive, then moved later as described above. I initially put Masters referenced on my MBP internal drive, then after backup and editing I use File Menu--> Relocate Masters to move the Masters to a permanent external drive location.
    • Connect a card reader with the camera card in it. The camera card should show on the desktop. If it does not show, restart the Mac with the reader and card still plugged in. You can of course use the camera directly in this step, but I do not recommend it. Obviously cameras like the iPad2 do require direct camera-to-computer uploading.
    • Drag the contents of the card's image folder(s) to the abc folder that you previously created on the hard drive.
    • Review the abc folder contents to be sure they all copied properly.
    • Software-eject the camera card.
    • Physically disconnect the camera card reader from the Mac. This step is important to help avoid all-too-common human error.
    • Again review the abc folder contents to be sure they are indeed all there (because stuff happens sometimes...).
    • Back up the abc folder contents on to another drive.
    • Review the files on the backup to be sure they all copied properly.
    • At any time after but not before the previous step you can reformat the camera card in-camera. Do not delete images on the card using the computer.
    • Start Aperture.
    • Import the images from folder abc into Aperture, selecting "Store Files: In their current location" on the right-hand side of the import window (important!).

  • How do I lock my screen on Blackberry Bold 9900

I just got Blackberry Bold 9900 from Rogers can someone tell me how to lock touchscreen.
    Thanks Steve Day

I'm just confirming that what Escon-eu said about not being able to turn off the touchscreen function is correct.  The 9900's touchscreen is part of the essence of the phone and therefore has its touchscreen functions built in to the OS.
    Cheers.

  • Can't restore my blackberry z10 from the backup file

    Hi,
I did total backup of my BB z10 with BB link. After the backup was completed, I wipe my BB z10 totally. Then I connected it to the link once again (After the wiping process completed) And suddenly I  can't restore my BB z10 from the previous .bbb file. It only restarted back and turned off. I tried to extract with numeruous program, but they don't support .bbb from BB z10.  Does anyone know the solution??
I really need to extract the phone contact files.

The Backup is encrypted so you will have no luck extracting anything with other programs. If your device itself was encrypted prior to the wipe, would it help if you re-encrypted it using the original password?
    Disclaimer:
I know a little about lots of things,
yet not a great lot about those little-things.

  • & so, the trouble begin ... bold 9900 backup restore to z10 ?

Very excited as my z10 has arrived!
The z10 uses Link instead of Desktop.  I backed my bold 9900 before this arrived.  How do I get that restored to the z10 so I can get my contacts etc. back?
Of course, pre-order the tech is like.. oh no problem, just switch your sim card & it will all be there but .. it's not SO..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If that doesn't work, try restoring the back up to your 9900...   Then power up both phones, pair them to one another in Bluetooth mode, then transfer your contacts via Bluetooth..
    or you could also try...
Try doing a device switch using the media card. Go to Setup on the old device and then go to Device Switch. It will make a full backup of the old device on the media card. Then put the media card in the Z10 and go to the Setup App  and click on Device Switch to transfer the old data to the new phone.
