Backup cannot be saved on this computer...

I am getting the problem "Backup cannot be saved on this computer." The first thing I did was uninstall itunes. And I uninstalled it exactly as described by apple on their website. I then went through and double checked to make sure that all apple files had been removed. Next I went through the process of deleting the "Apple Computer" folder in users\"username"\Appdata\Roaming as to make sure that there were no other backup files out there. I then reinstalled itunes. I then configured itunes to not automatically backup, so that I could manually initiate the backup.
When I plugged in my phone, I no longer get this Backup cannot be saved on computer error, but now it starts the backup but seems to just get stuck. In the status bar it says "Syncing 'iPhone' (Step 1 of 2) Backing Up". The bar itself is the scrolling black and white bar. Do I just need to leave it for a very long time? It does not seem to be backing up to me. I know backing up does take a long time, but I would think the process takes the most time on Step 2, not Step 1. Can anyone help? I feel itunes is getting hung up somewhere...

Ok. After reading a million forums, here is what I did to fix it.
I Deleted the back up manually in the AppData/roaming/Apple Computer/MobileSync/backup
Then copied my entire photo directory from the iPhone4 (directory: 80AAAAA) to my desktop as a back up.
Then removed all files from this directory from iPhone4 so now it is completely empty.
Reran the backup and sync and everything is right in the world again.
This seems to be the most common fix now as most of the time the "Backup Cannot Be Saved on this Computer" is caused by a corrupted photo or video file in the 80AAAA directory.
Good Luck!

  • Backing up iPad - 'Backup cannot be stored on this computer'

    Hi all
Decided today to upgrade to iOS 4 on my iPad, running Snow Lepoard and latest version of iTunes. When I try to update it, after a few minutes, it says that the backup cannot be saved to this computer, so I cannot update it. I read that a solution to this is to delete the backup from iTunes Device Preferences.. and I have done this, but I got the same problem again. When I went back into iTunes Device Preferences, the backup is still there... i've tried deleting it many times and it just won't work
Any help either deleting the backup of preferably helping to get my iPad updated is greatly appreciated

With iTunes closed trying deleting (I would move vise delete) the backup using finder. You can find the location of the file in the following under About Syncing and Backups.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
I would also try repairing permissions via the Disk Utility.

  • IPod Touch - Back Up cannot be saved on this computer?

I was in the middle of a back up and then the back up froze and my ipod wasn't disconnecting so I pulled it out without disconnected. It's fine, but now whenever I try to back up my ipod it says "backup could not be saved on the computer." I tried going in preferences and deleting the back up file but the problem still continues. I restored my ipod, too! What should I do to get my back up working again!?

I don't know how to fix your particular problem short of a major restoration of iTunes, but why, why why, didn't you just cancel the sync by using the slider on the touch? Simple, easy, and it cleans up after itself.

  • "Back up cannot be saved on this computer"

    Hello everyone,
I encountered recently a very upseting problem with the back up function on iTunes -which is installed on a Windows XP SP3 netbook- for my iPad.
Each time I back up or sync, the process ends up saying it has been unable to back up on my computer (while syncing is ok).
There is a notice from Apple in its knowledgebase dealing with this issue. It mainly attributes the problem to some kind of administrator restriction or wrong set up of the firewall.
Well, I created another admin account, disabled the firewall, and the problem remains. I also checked that all the Apple processes working in the background were authorized by the firewall (which is Comodo by the way).
There was also a post on this forum explaining that it might be the proper folder that would be missing in the "Mobilesync" folder in the documents and settings directory. I created then a folder accordingly with the 40 letters an numbers attributed to my back up. This ended up with the same error message.
But what is the strangest thing is that each time iTunes returns this error message it's at the end of the back up and when I check the "Mobilesync" folder a 8 Go snapshot has been created. However, le log in the main folder indicates that the back up has failed.
The result is that I am unable to upgrade to iOs 4.3 and that I don't know if this ipad is really backed up.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

  • After I sync my ipod I'm getting the message that it cannot backup ipod because backup could not be saved on this computer does anyone know what I could try to resolve this issue?

After I sync my ipod itunes is giving me the message that backup for my ipod cannot be saved on the computer does anyone know what I could do to fix this issue?

Check out this Apple document -> iTunes: "Backup could not be saved on the computer" alert message
To resolve this issue, delete the backup in iTunes Preferences and then create a new backup. If you would like to retain a copy of the backup, you can move the backup file to a different location. The backup is located in the locations below.
On Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    \Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    To delete the backup file:
Open iTunes Preferences by choosing iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (Windows).
        Select Devices.
Select the device backup to delete.
Click Delete Backup. iTunes will ask if you are sure you want to delete the backup. Click Delete Backup.
        Click OK.
To manually create a new backup, right-click (or Control-click) iPhone on the left side of the iTunes window under Devices and choose Back Up from the shortcut menu.

  • HT201210 I can't update my IPAD2 to IOS 6, it fails and I get a message "could not backup the IPAD because the backup could not be saved to this computer--I have tried different computers?  Please, anyone have this same issue and figured out a fix?  Thank

I can't update my IPAD2 to IOS6.  I've tried through ITUNEs.  I get a message after IOS6 is downloaded and extracted, to the effect of "could not backup the IPAD2 because the backup could not be saved to this computer."  I've tried directly from the IPAD, and by connecting through ITUNES to two separate computgers.  Can anyone help?  Thank you.

However after part of the Itune update completed a message came up on the screen
saying   "The feature you are trying to use is on a net work resource that is unavailable.
Which particular .msi file does the message go on to say cannot be found? (Several different .msi files might be mentioned in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)

  • ITunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup could not be saved on this computer

    Dears,
Today I planned to update my iPhone 4 to iOS7.
After update while my iPhone was connected to the computer, it didn't work and iTunes asked me to restore my iPhone before I can use it.
Well, I had to click Ok and iPhone was restore to factory settings and removed everything.
Now I went to iTunes again to restore the entire backup I created eariler for the photos, videos, contacts and everything 20+GB.
The iTunes starts the restore process but stoppes in the middle of the progress and gives the error:
iTunes could not restore the iPhone"My iPhone Name" because the backup could not be saved on this computer.
I tried 3 times but no avail.
If my C: drive is almost full and it might be the issue, can I move my backup files to another location D: drive for example and restore them to my iPhone?
    Please help me.
    Thank you.

I get the same issue w/ an iPad that I just updated to the latest iOS.  I made the backup before upgrading the iOS.  Now when i try to restore that backup made 35 min or so ago, I get this error.  Help!

  • HT1766 backup couldn't be saved in this computer?

when backup before updating to ios6 this messagr faliure alert:
backup couldn't be saved in this computer?

Hi. This worked for me after months of trying many different fixes. Give it a shot.
Locate the iTunesPrefs.xml on your PC. In Windows XP the iTunesPrefs.xml location is:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
    or:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.
With iTunes closed, I renamed this file from iTunesPrefs.xml to iTunesPrefs.xml.backup in both locations. Then I opened iTunes, connected my iPhone, and the backup was successful.
Note that doing this will force iTunes to recreate the iTunesPrefs.xml file with all it's default settings. Any user preferences you may have set within iTunes will be removed. You will need to set any user defined preferences again.
Let me know if this works for you.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Mac 0S X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer

Just trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6 and get this error message:
Mac 0S X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer
    I have a Mac Mini with 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Can someone point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

With Leopard there was a warning from Apple in a tech note, to not repair permissions with older versions of OS X than what is installed. Guess it can do more harm than good.
Clone your system to backup on external drive. Boot off that. And because you know you want / need a backup anyway.
From there you can run system and disk maintenance properly.
