Backup Data before ICS update!

I know the ICS for Live with Walkman is just around the corner(in India) so I was thinking on how to completely backup app data not merely the apks but all app data for eg;- I dont want to loose my progress in some games .
So please help me backup my app data.
Solved!

There is an article which gives some advice on backup...
http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/154664#154664
It applies to Xperia phones but also includes Live with Walkman.
There is no built-in backup app on Gingerbread so it recommends apps like MyBackup.
I personally would back up all data from SD on to PC, this is because many apps store settings/scores etc... on the phone SD card.
And for the phone memory, where most apps are installed, you could use MyBackup.
The issue is that some of the apps you have now may not be compatible for ICS, therefore they may not work or may need updating. It would make sense to make a list of all the installed 3rd party apps and then just install ICS and start fresh.

  • How to verify that the user has changed table row data before db update

    Hi all,
Iam using Oracle ADF with EJBs.
I have a single selection table that displays rows of data returned from a function of my data control.
The columns of my table are editable so that the user can change the data. The user selects a row, changes the data in one or more columns of the row and saves the data by means of a submit button. The code in the submit button, identifies the row of the corresponding iterator that the user clicked on and updates the data in the database (using the 'mergeEntity' function of the EntityManager)
Before saving the data, I want to put some logic to check whether the user has actually changed some data to avoid unnecessary updates in the database . But for this I need a technique to detect that the user has indeed changed some data in the table row.
One technique I have been using so far was to isolate the iterator row of the table and then query the corresponding row in the database table and compare their values.
Except from dummy, this technique is not efficient if the table contains many rows.
Moreover, in my case I have observed that on successive updates on the same row , the query on the database returns the new values (user changed values) and not the actual values contained in the database table. This means that when the user updates an iterator row the cached data affect also the results of the SELECT statement from the actual database table!!! Isn't this strange ?
Can somebody propose me a neat method to detect when the user has changed the the data of an iterator row ?

    Hey Alan,
The below solution seems overly complicated to me and can not be implemented without a custom screen and/or the use of JavaScript. Also, if your main concern is that a user may accidentally loose all their data because they closed the browser window or the session times out before they hit the save button then this solution does not help you.
There are a couple of simpler approaches you can take here:
    # If the use of JavaScript is permissible you can hook into the windows 'onUnload' event, and pop-up a message box which gives the user the opportunity to cancel closing the window and save their case if they haven't already.
    # Implement an autosave feature by hooking into one of events provided by web determinations. A simple (but rather naive) way of doing this would be to hook into the OnRenderScreenEvent and call save on the interview session every time the event fires. This guarantees that all the data the user has submitted will aways automatically be saved, thereby removing the need to make sure the user manually saves their data before closing the browser.
Automatically making Web Determinations close a browser window has to be done using JavaScript. However, doing so means that a) it won't work for people who turn off JavaScript, which is commonly done for accessibility reasons b) you'll likely run afoul of the browser's security mechanism (they generally won't let you close a window that you didn't open and some really don't like you doing that at all).
    Thanks,

  • Validate AD reconciliation data before it updates Resource

    Environment: OIM 9.1.0.0
    AD Connector: 9.1.1
Need to validate couple of attributes format and data, before OIM reconciliation engine processes it and updates resource.
Basically, for AD Trusted Recon can do it by Pre-Update and if validation fails can throw Error so update will not go through.
But for AD Target Recon unable to figure out the solution.

Tested, verified in OIM but confused:-
    On Data Object Information: Users
    Pre-Update: added new Entity adapter
On AD User Trusted recon event, logs shows it being triggered and executing
On Data Object Information: AD User Form
    Pre-Update: added same Entity adapter
On AD User Target recon event, event executed and Linked but logs does not show it being triggered and executing
So tried to validate from WebConsole, Resource Form --> AD User , clicked on Edit and on Pop up clicked Save button.
log shows entity adapter being executed.
Does reconciliation engine update resource form under the hood without going through 'Data Object Information' ?

  • HT4061 didn't backup data before upgrade

    Hello,
I tried to upgrade my iPad software but didn't backup the iPad data (i.e. photos, songs, etc.). I had not connected the iPad to iTune and didn't back it up before starting the upgrade.
After the update, my iPads tells me that connect it to iTune. When I connect the iPad to iTune on my laptop, I get a message indicating that my iPad is in the recovery mode & I must restore to factory setting and that I will lose all data.
Can anyone please tell me how can I save my iPad data?
    Thanks,

Back up first if you're able.  Otherwise, consider it a lesson learned.

  • Backup error before iOS update - Lost everything - HELP?

    Hi all,
I have a problem like many others: while updating iPhone to iOS 5, iTunes encountered a backup error (-50) and I lost all data (photo, video, notes, contacts) saved after the last backup (more than 1 year ago).
Talked with Apple Genius, it seems there is no way to recover lost data from my iPhone... this is very sad.
But I ask if someone has found maybe a solution: is there a chance maybe iTunes left some temporary files (I'm using Windows version) that I can scan? It's extremely important to recover the notes.
    Hope someone can help.
    thanks in advance

All you can do is to restore from backup
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Iphone5 stuck How to backup data before rebooting?

iphone5 got stuck and asks to restart phone through itunes. How do I backup photos and contacts before rebooting device?

The alternative is using Ovi Suite. Did you try the latest version of Ovi Suite from here?
The N8 also has the capability to sync online or applications such as Outlook on your pc but I believe they only sync contacts and calender. I have no experience of this as I only backup to pc and memory card. I don't trust anyone else with my data.

  • I just updated to Mountain Lion and now time machine won't recognize my backups from before the update.

I updated from Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2 on my MacBook Pro
I used disk utility to restore my external hardrive because I read somewhere that that would fix the problem.
It did fix the problem but only temporarily. I was able to view my backups from Snow Leopard, but as soon as I tried to backup again, time machine was stuck
"preparing to backup" for 5 hours and when I quit the prepare I could no longer access my previous backups.

So what happens if you go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General? Are you able to go there at all? If you are able to go there, can you unlock the preferences using the lock in the lower left and your login name and password?
If you are able to do this, can you change the "Allow applications downloaded from:" to Anywhere?
    Best of luck.

  • I just updated my os to lion and had to reinstall firefox . i accidentally lost all my bookmarks. I have a backup from before the update that was done through time machine but I can't find firefox in there. How can I retrieve them ?

I also have the app for my iphone which is still synced with my account and has my bookmarks there but I don't know how to get them onto firefox. The account i used to sync my bookmarks on my iphone app was under the email address [email protected] as is this one. I tried logging in with the first account but no pw I tried worked. I tried to get a new pw from the site but I was never sent an email to reset it so I created a new account under the same email address.

I got my contacts back by doing another restore!  Relief..
But only a very few odd apps are showing up on the 3GS
    Any suggestions?

  • Can I backup ICS firmware before JB update?

    Hello clever people,
Last year I followed Nabeel's great guide to upgrading and downgrading your firmware in order to flash my Ray to ICS. Having the GB backup was very useful to me.
For the Ray, the process was easy because in the UK Sony could not officially release the ICS update, so I did a "repair" of the phone, which caused SEUS to download the firmware for my phone, which I could then import into Flashtool.
Now I have the Xperia J and if I connect the phone and run SEUS, there is no option to "repair" the existing ICS firmware, only the option to update to JB.
Does anybody know how I can "backup" my existing firmware before upgrading?
I should add that I don't really want to jump through hoops, rooting the device, installing CWM and all that business. I'm just hoping for a simple way to generate an ftf file.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pete

    Hi edomali,
In the end, my impatiance got the better of me and I just went ahead with the JB update that SUS was offering me (without backing up the ICS firmware).
Now, I can't speak for how the phone worked on ICS, but running JB has been pretty much flawless. Everything seems to run fairly smoothly (as smoothly as can be expected on such low-end hardware) and the only 2 problems I have had are:
    1) The SMS counter notifies me that I have exceeded my limit, even though I do not have the SMS counter activated?! I can clear the message by activating, then deactivating the function. The workaround for this is to set the "Warning Level" and "Maximum Limitation" levels to some impossibly high value like 999999!
    2) Occasionally receiving text messages is delayed. I have also noticed that sometimes alarms that I have set are delayed, or sometimes I will snooze an alarm and it will snooze for longer than 10 minutes (or if it has exceeded 10 minutes, it will "re-alarm" as soon as I wake the screen). Interestingly, when this occurs, the phone seems to be quite unresponsive and it seems as though a background process is hogging all the CPU time. What I've not thought to do yet, is to see what apps are running when this occurs.
The above are my only two complaints with the phone running JB. I don't know if these issues were already present in ICS as I never used the phone when it was running ICS.

  • Lost all app data and former backups after iTunes 11 update

I just updated to iTunes 11. I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 and an Apple iPhone 5 32GB. Before the update I made a backup of my iPhone.
    So far, so good.
Problems that occured after the update:
    1. One Music CD in my library was split into two albums with titles 1-4 and 5-13. I fixed that manually.
    2. Available space on my iPhone decreased after the update. I've got an iPhone 5 with 32GB capacity. Before the update and sync with iTunes 11 I had like almost 5GB of empty space. Now it's only 1.31GB. There are not more apps, music, pictures etc. on my iPhone than before the update.
    3. All data of apps like balance (budget tool), Momento (diary) is gone! Apps like Dropbox lost their settings.
Hence, I decided to restore the data from the backup I made just before updating to iTunes 11. THIS BACKUP IS GONE!! I'm no IT newbie and I'm an iPhone user since the iPhone 3.
I just wish I would have not updated to iTunes 11. Apple Switzerland's Support was not able to help. They said if the backup is gone, data is lost ;(

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If you have synced your device on two separate days then the current state of your device backup will no longer have the stored data for the apps that were removed. If however you have not resynced since noticing the problem then, once the library is restored, it may be possible to restore the device to bring back the missing app data.

  • Updating iPhone went wrong. Is it possible to remove data before restoring when in recovery mode?

My mum was updating her iPhone and she either unpluged the phone to soon or there was a problem with the update. Now the phone will not turn off and the screan is telling me to plug the phone back to iTunes. When I do so there is a pop up telling me i have to restore the phone and will lose all the data on the phone. If any one can help me save this data before I restore the phone i would be very greatful.

When the phone demands a recovery, you'll have to do that. Try to connect in recovery mode, with a little luck the phone will be able to backup before restoring, in case the firmware is not completely damaged.
Recovery mode is explained here: iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

No. TM has to look through your entire drive contents and copy them all. This will take some time.
Once the first backup is made, then subsequent backup will be much quicker, depending on how much data has changed since the last one.
