Backup, deletion and restoring.

I have an app database of 30 gb in the itunes folder in my C drive.
Today I backed up my iPhone and it cost me around 10 gb when my phone had 2 gb of store left. Is this normal ?
My question is that when I delete my backup from the itunes preferences, does it delete (a) only the backup of 12 gb ? (b) the app database of 30gb ? (c) both ?
Also would it make a significant difference of deleting the backup and again creating it ?
I ask this because both of them are taking a lot of space in my C drive.
I need an alternate of storing either or both of these backupsin another drive. Is there a way ?

Try this...
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.0, a free tool from MS. Use it to create a backup copy of your iTunes library & any other media folders onto another hard drive or network share. After making the initial backup copy use SyncToy to periodically synchronise the backup copy with your library and only the changed files will be copied saving lots of time.
When the time comes to reformat your PC, do a final sync, then open iTunes & deauthorise the PC, reformat & rebuild Windows, copy the backup folders back to the same location as they were previously, install iTunes and it should all work perfectly.

I just deleted and restored iTunes because I had 4 or 5 of each song. After all that I STILL HAVE 4 or 5 of every song. HOW DO I FIX THIS? Or do I just stop using iTunes?

Since this a potentially drastic approach I will remind you that at this point you ought to have a complete backup of your library in case things get worse rather than better...
Select the Music source, select all (ctrl-a), delete, DO NOT SEND FILES TO THE TRASH!
Repeat with other media sources if you wish.
Import your media, get it organized, backup again.
I can recall if I've sent you in the direction of this information yet...
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
In the layout above, with the media folder (everything in the red box) inside the library folder, the library is considered to be portable. A portable library can be moved from one path to another without breaking the links between the library and the media and being self-contained is much easier to backup
... but if you are going to start over I'd recommend you work with iTunes rather than fighting it. If you want your own folder structure for your media (I know I do, but generally recommend people don't because it is less hassle) then turn off the option under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to Keep the iTunes Media folder organized, but place your structure somewhere inside the iTunes media folder. That way you get the advantages mentioned above and are much less likely to create duplicates by accident again in future.

  • I have an IPad with a Restriction code that we cannot remember.  Is it possible to delete and restore the IPad without the code?  If not how do I figure out the code or how t? o remove it?

I have an IPad with a Restriction code that we cannot remember.  Is it possible to delete and restore the IPad without the code.  If not how do I figure out the code or how to remove it?

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.  Hope you have a backup.
Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

  • Create server role for backups (BACKUP DATABASE and RESTORE HEADERONLY)

    Hello-
I wish to create a server role that will allow any users assigned to it to be able to issue a BACKUP DATABASE and RESTORE HEADERONLY for any database on the server.  I've been searching Google and MSDN but haven't had much luck.  I can create the
user (CREATE SERVER ROLE backupuser;) but don't really know how to assign the permissions to it that I want.  I wish to keep the permissions as narrow as possible for good practice; I could just assign the user to the sysadmin group but that shouldn't
    be necessary.
If anyone can help, I would much appreciate it.

Whenever you need to find out the required permissions for a command, the best way is to look up these commands in Books Online, and to the Permissions/Securities section. This is what I always do when people asks these questions, because I rarely knows
    the answer by heart.
So, let's see what the topic for BACKUP has to say:
BACKUP DATABASE and BACKUP LOG permissions default to members of the
sysadmin fixed server role and the db_owner and db_backupoperator fixed
       database roles
The permission section for RESTORE HEADERONLY says:
Beginning in SQL Server 2008, obtaining information about a backup set or
backup device requires CREATE DATABASE permission. For more information,
       see GRANT Database Permissions (Transact-SQL).
So it seems that if you want a user that has server-level rights to back up databases, this must be sysadmin, which is a little disappointing. One possibility is to package the BACKUP command in a stored procedure, which you sign with a certificate. Then
you create a login from the certiticate, and add that login to sysadmin. BACKUP accepts parameters for many of its arguments, so you don't have to build dynamic SQL. Still it is not really a satisfactory solution, since this user will have to work with
BACKUP "commands" that will be procedure calls.

  • HT201320 This last week, I updated my iPhone with iOS6 and now my Yahoo Mail no longer works.  I've deleted and restored the account without fixing the problem.  The iOS update did not effect my iPad.  Anyone have a suggestion?

This last week (of 17 Sep 12) I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 and now my Yahoo mail does not work.  I keep getting a "Yahoo server busy" message.  This problem has not effected the update to my iPad 3 - it works fine.  In addition, I have deleted and added my Yahoo mail - same result.  Looking for ideas on repairing the link between iOS 6 and Yahoo.  Cheers

Same here, albeit with a 3G and both a work Exchange account and personal Gmail are out of action.  Reentered my password on the Gmail to no avail.
Unfortunately it seems that increased success has come too fast to Apple, it's starting to display Microsoft-like behaviors, e.g., releasing stuff and letting the customers serve as the beta / guinea pigs.

  • My Infinity Blade has completely stopped working. It simply dies out on the loading screen. I have tried all conventional ways of solving the problem, including restoring backups, deleting and redownloading the app, and nothing works. What do I do?

Yeah, it just crashes on the loading screen every single time, and I have no clue what to do....

    Contact the developer
    Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Delete and restore scheduling of reports

    Hi
I have BO 4.0 installed on Linux Platform
Is there any way i can
    1) Backup all the scheduling information for all my reports
    2) Restore only few of them at a time
All i want to achieve is as we are migrating from 3.1 to 4.0 we want to schedule only few reports at a time like 50 reports per day

Even, I've faced this issue in my env.
I did the following and it got fixed automatically, try it out and let me know if it works!!
Goto Default settings of that report in CMC
Add the new event to the report and SAVE it. (I know that the old event will not be there but if it present, please delete it and add the new event or some test event)
Goto Schedule and create some dummy schedule to check check whether the report runs properly without any issues. (In my case, I tried scheduling the report for "Daily" @ 9 AM.)
Open the recurring instance details and see if the new event detail is reflecting in the event dependency.
Make sure that the event which you have fixed is getting successful.
Validate the 9 AM instance which you have scheduled to verify whether it completes successfully.
    Regards

  • Can I delete and restore notes from my iPad 1

My son needs to borrow my ipad (1st gen) and I want to delete the notes.  I've put them all on the cloud, but I would like to restore them after he is done with my ipad.  Is this possible/

You will need the AirPort Utility application on a Mac or PC to be able to configure the AirPort Express since the operating system of the iPad will not support the AirPort Utility application.
The AirPort Express will usually work "as is" if you plug it into the Ethernet jack at the hotel, but the wireless will be "open", meaning that anyone in range could connect to the signal if they happened to be searching for a wireless connection.

  • Identify L1 backup pieces and restore the latest control file

    DB version:11.2
    Platform : Solaris 11
We dropped a Development DB last month. But we kept the Level0 and Level1 rman backups plus the archive logs generated after the last L1 .
Our L0 and L1's were scheduled with a 4 day gap.
Now the dev team wants this DB to be restored in a different machine. We hadn't stored rman metadata in a catalog schema. All we have is the below backup pieces.
    stcdev_p4lor85q_1_1.bkp
    stcdev_yls3gkjl_3_7.bkp
    stcdev_mhfr8293_5_4.bkp
    stcdev_ipxsr8293_5_4.bkp
.I don't know which of the backup pieces are from L1 and which ones are from L0. If I manage to restore the latest control file from the latest L1 backup , then things will be easy. What if I mistakenly restore the old control file from L0 which doesn't have any info on any new datafiles/tempfiles I've added after that L0.
What would you guys do for situation like this?

After you restore the controlfile, simply ALTER DATABASE MOUNT and then issue a LIST BACKUP. That listing will show you what the controlfile is aware of --- if it shows both L0 and L1 backups, you can use it. If it shows only the L0 backup, try restoring the "other" controlfile.
If you can see the timestamps of the backuppieces, that would help you identify which is the "later" backup.

  • How to lock app. deletion and restore?

I just purchased a learning app. for my kids. A couple of weeks later, I found out the app. was no longer there. I didn't do any backup yet on my PC.
Question 1: How do I password it so when a deletion occurs, it ask for a password?
Question 2: Do I have to re-purchase the app again or what?
Question 3: Is there a way to lock the device after a couple of hours on?
    Thank you!

    1) You don't
    2) No. Unlike music you can redownload apps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
    3) You can have it auto lock after some time of no use and you can password protect it so that it cannot be unlocked without a password.
Have a look at the manual:

  • HT5163 Is there any way to permanently delete and restore email messages from my IPad without erasing everything?

I am not familiar with IPad usage but wondered if there is a way to remove all my emails without removing everything else, ie: photos, songs..?  Does a restore erase  everything? Thanks!

I cannot delete an email address that was also an Apple ID for awhile. It keeps coming up as an "email return to" address on compose in gmail.
As a result, I removed all mention of it in my keychain and cancelled it in Google. I called Apple support and for awhile was able to use time
machine to restore it, then lost all my addresses again. My iPad mini has addresses on it but I'm concerned that if it syncs with my Macbook Air
the iPad addresses will disappear also. How can I prevent an unwanted sync?

  • How to Backup iphone and restore onto a new computer?

I am currentely using a PC, on which my iphone is currentely backedup on. But i have recentely just purchased a MacBook Pro, how do I backup my iphone on my PC then restore it on my new MacBook?
Would be great if anyone could help!

Move your iTunes library & other data...contacts, calendars, photos, etc. from your PC to your MacBook Pro. Then, authorize iTunes on your Mac: iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer. Under iTunes>Preferences>Devices, disable auto-sync. Connect your phone, right-click in the left device pane, select "Backup". When finished, right-click again & select "Restore from Backup". Select the backup you just made. When finished, sync your iTunes content back to your phone. You should be good to go.
Read here about copying your iTunes library & other data:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you don't want to do this yourself, make an appointment at an Apple store...bring both PC & Mac...the genius bar will do this for you.

  • How to backup purchased app to itunes library and restore

How can I backup purchased app to itunes library ( version 11.0.0.163 ) , what I had found in google was old version with different format
    kindly advice , thanks

Connect your device to iTunes. The device should show at the top right just next to the iTunes Store button.
Or on a Mac to View > Show Sidebar, on a PC press Ctrl+S and the device should show in the sidebar
Backup apps and restore as you did in iTunes 10
    Hope that helps
