baskar.lYou need to configure rman catalog db. Anything else used would be like reinventing the wheel.

how can I remove all the backup details that I have taken using rman nocatalog .
I want to delete all the backup details from the control file and from the physical location where the backups have been stored.
My oracle version is 10.2.0 on solaris 10.Use "list backup" command to first identify which backups you want to delete.
Once identified and you are sure go ahead and use DELETE command as describe din above post.
There is another way also. If you are sure about the physical location of the backups you need to delete. Just delete them from the physical location using OS commands and then use the CROSSCHECK command in RMAN. This will remove those backups from the CONTROLFILE also.
If its production, think twice before deleting anything. Do test your operations on a test database to make sure they will work as expected. -
Hello,
I got some problems with Windows and Bootcamp, and now I want to manual backup my Macintosh HD hard drive.
My question: What exactly files should I copy/paste for these fonctions:
1.Safari bookmarks
2.Stickies
That's it, I hope I am not forgeting smth.
Thank you,
iTunesHi iTunes,
For Safari bookmarks, simply copy the following file to an external source (CD-R, external drive etc):
Users/yourusername/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
You simply place the Bookmarks.plist file back to it's original location once your done doing whatever you need to.
For Stickies, the contents are stored in a file called StickiesDatabase which resides in the user's library folder. More details here:

Getting backup details--what was backed up?
Is there a way to find out the details of what was included in a specific backup?
My computer just backed up about 3 Gigs of data after already making a different backup today. My Parallels folder is already excluded so I know that it's not that. Besides, I haven't used Parallels in several days so it would be unchanged.
I'd like to be able to "see"/discover what files were backed up in the currently running backup.I'd still like to know the answer to this, but I think I just realized what the 3 Gig probably was. It's possible that it was the first full backup after updating my system tonight--10.5.5, Java, Front Row, Digital Camera Raw Compatibility, and Remote Desktop Client Update.
Since I've finished it already, I can't really go back and add up the total size of those updates, but it's very possible that the combination of those 5 things, came close to 3 Gigs. -
I'm looking for a specific online backup plan (detailed steps) for 10g. Don't know if anyone knows some useful link about it? Thanks a bunch!
Try the Oracle document. Most people use RMAN these days. <br><br>

Time Machine does not display Oldest or Latest Backup details
I had previously posted this but had no luck (or replies)...
Shortly after the most recent Time Capsule software update, I had an issue where Time Machine stopped working. I was getting a"Backup volume cannot be found" message.
As per Apple's instructions to remedy this, "Time Capsule: Time Machine backups do not mount" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1170), I re-named my Time Capsule to a shorter name.
Shortly afterward, I noticed that details were missing for "Latest Backup" when I'd click the Time Machine icon in my menu bar. All that is displayed in this field is " -- ". I have also noticed that when I open the Time Machine Preferences window, the details are missing from the following fields: "Available", "Oldest Backup", & "Latest Backup". (However, when a backup is in progress, space details are shown in the "Available" field.)
I expect the missing details have something to do with changing the name of the Time Capsule, but have no idea how to fix this... Please help.Installed Snow Leopard, and, for whatever reason the missing details are now there. Yay.
-
Since I first started to run Time Machine to back up my files from 17 Aug 2008, it has always shown the date and time of the Oldest Backup, the Latest Backup, ad the Next Backup in the Time Machine Preferences window. But a few days ago, it stopped showing the first two and just has "--" against the oldest backup and the latest backup, but it still shows the Next Back date and time. What might have caused this to happen? Is there any way I can get the information back? It is not critical, but it would be nice to know the cause.
Thanks.Jim,
Consider this:
*_“Latest Backup”, “Oldest Backup”, “Available” Data Has Disappeared_*
Usually the "Latest Backup", "Oldest Backup", and "Available" information found in the Time Machine menu and Preferences will continue to be displayed as long as the backup disk it is referring to remains connected to the Mac. Once the backup disk is disconnected, or another disk is selected for backup, that information will disappear.
For Time Capsule users, this information may disappear if the Mac moves out of range of the Time Capsule wireless device, or losses communication with it.
If these factors do not apply to your situation, then it may be that the Time Machine preference list (.plist) has become corrupted. Try the following:
*Delete The Time Machine Preference .plist*
Go to --> Macintosh HD / Library / Preferences (Note: NOT Home / Library / Preferences).
Drag the .plist file labeled,
com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
to the root level of your Macs’ hard drive.
Reboot your computer.
This .plist file is automatically recreated at startup if it is missing.
Now try choosing the external HD in the TM Prefs for backup.
Initiate a backup and then observe if the information regarding the backup is retained in the TM Prefs pane.
Let us know if this helped resolve your issue.
Cheers! -
Will an iCloud backup also backup all of the settings and iOS settings?
Yes. See iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview.

DB12 , Backup Overview details are not retrieved
Hi There
System o/s : AIX
Database : DB2
SAP System : ECC6. 0
Unable to find out Backup details overview through ST04/ DB12/DB13 .. can somebody help me plz if I am missing out with any parameters ..Hi,
What support package level is your system on?
If you take a backup does it show in the history file but not in db12 ?
What way or you taking the backup?
you can change the alert configuration (for you needs) in the
DB6COCKPIT (ST04): Alerts -> Alert Configuration
=> mark the related line -> Edit
This way you can be alerted if no sucessfull backup was taken in the last while (you can set the duration until an alert is created)

Are you specifying "-cds" in the parameter string for BRARCHIVE?
This option is not supported for DISK and can return the error code 3.
You might want to change the option in DB13 to -cd ( copy_delete) or -s (save)
Hopefully this was helpful.

Need best practices PROCESS to schedule RMAN Backups.
Hi All,
I would like a suggestion on the following for RMAN Backups:
Details:
Database: - 11gR2, Size 3TB on ASM - DW database.
Like suggestions on:
1) What kind of backups to schedule - Incremental along with Block backups?
2) Size required to allocate for the Backup Space - Can it be ASM or Disk Space?
3) Anything else - please suggest.
Thank you.For that size, you might do weekly L0 and daily L1 (differential) backups. Try to do L1 (cumulative) backups if possible.
Getting the total sizes of Segments (from DBA_SEGMENTS) will give you an approximation for the minimum size. (Tables/Indexes that have been dropped and are no longer in DBA_SEGMENTS wouldn't appear but the underlying blocks for them if unused by other Tables/Indexes would still be backed up as they'd have been formatted).
You could run the Backup as a COMPRESSED BACKUPSET to reduce the size.
Whether you want ASM or FileSystem depends on your comfort level. If you run backups to ASM, you can only use RMAN to backup from ASM to Tape. However, backups on FileSystem can be copied to tape using any other method (tape backup utility). Also consider if you want to replicate/copy the backups to other servers and what methods you'd have available.

Time Machine Error: backup to large requires 523 MB but only 8.4 GB avail
For about a week now I am getting the following backup error:
This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 523.3 MB but only 8.4 GB are available.
Then the latest backup fails.
This makes no sense to me. My backup volume is 150GB external USB Buffalo drive. It has been working great for months now. Based on some information I read in another post I excluded my application folder that added another 15.2 GB not needed to backup. I also tried unchecking the box that warns when old backups are deleted.
I have read through many post but have not found an answer yet.
Any suggestions?

<Edited by Moderator>Thanks for the quick and accurate advice. Since I had never done this before it took me a while to figure out how to partition the drive as GUID. I did not understand I had to create a partition and click on options.
On Apple's Support website for OS X 10.5 Time Machine under Mac 101: Using Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (see below) it should have information about how important it is to partition a new drive as GUID then how to do it. It just says I won't have to worry about backing up again. For me I had to erase all my backups - this time nothing was really important that was not on my main drive. It would have been good if I could have set it up correctly the first time.
Getting started
The first time you attach an external drive to your Mac OS X Leopard-based Mac, Time Machine asks if you’d like to use that drive as your backup location (you may need to erase the drive first). Choose yes and Time Machine takes care of everything else, automatically, in the background. _You won't have to worry about backing up again._
