Backup disc error

I made a complete back-up of my itunes library (I have the disc). After reformatting my computer and loading all my programs back in; I started to reload my itunes. itunes took all of my back-up disc except for one (1). All of the information is on the disc but it is having trouble loading from it. My question is: How do I use the information on this disc that will not load in the back-up procedure into my itunes without having to go locate the disc from my collection stored away in a box? I can read the information off the disc but just can not back it up into my itunes. Thanks.

From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Boot into Recovery or from your installation disc and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
Reset the NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock.

  • Backup discs could not be read error occurred (-50). HELP!

I'm using itunes 9.0.2; running Windows XP on Oracle Virtual Box in Ubuntu 10.04. the latest itunes will not work and 9.0.2 is the closest i can get.
One out of 4 backup discs contains only the itunes purchases and it works but a message pops up: +'could not restore some of the files from the play-list'+, +'they may be on other backup discs'+ even though all the songs on disc play. I put the next disc in and the following message pops up: +'the disc cannot be read. an unknown error occurred (-50)'.+
Any ideas why this is happening? I loaded the discs in the latest itunes on another PC and it is fine. would it be that I may be using an older itunes then when i backed up the other discs and so not compatible? is that possible??

Reboot the TC.. Sometimes you need to reboot the whole network.
This is what comes of Lion and then made worse in Mountain Lion of Apple not spending enough time to fix the bugs.

  • HT1338 Error preparing Time Machine backup disc- size error usually not being multiples of 512, encryption

Trying to encrypt Time Machine backup disc getting message  - Error preparing Time Machine backup disc- size error usually not being multiples of 512, encryption.

    I got the same problem.
But I think it cannot be related to not being a multiple of 512.
As when I devide the number of bytes 3.000.592.982.016 by 512 is equals 5860533168.
    3.000.592.982.016 / 512 = 5860533168.
So what could be the real problem?

  • Time Machine error - backup disc image could not be mounted

I have a LaCie external hard drive attached to my Mac and (through Time Machine) there are several other macs, including my own, which back up to this device (through the network).
One of the other macs has suddenly started to bring up an error message when it tries to back up - "backup disc image could not be mounted". But my mac is backing up without any problems. I've tried switching the LaCie on and off but it still won't back up anymore

BTW--when I go into finder and click on my .sparsebundle, I get the following:

90% of the time, all you need to do is power off the Time Capsule, wait a few minutes, and power it back up.
If no luck, then go to the more sophisticated fixes in the link above.

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Restore Keychain from Macbook 3.1 to Macbook Air using Backup disc

I recently bought a refurbished Macbook Air (early 2014 model) to replace a late 2007 MacBook 3.1 and I am not able to use restore from a backup disc because the backup “was created on a different model of Mac.” I would like to transfer the data in the Keychain file on the Macbook 3.1 to the Keychain file on the Macbook Air. Suggestions greatly appreciated as I am currently manually transferring the Keychain data which is error prone and time consuming.

    Try these steps:
    1. Go to the Library on your old Mac and locate the Keychain folder
    2. Open this folder and select the 'login.keychain’ file
    3. Control-click on this file and choose Share
    4. In the list of options, choose any of the methods you like
    5. After you receive your keychain file, open Keychain Access on your new computer
    6. Select File - Add Keychain and locate the 'login.keychain’ file from your old Mac

  • 303 disc error

My Pavilion G6 has thrown up a 303 disc error.  HP are sending me a new HDD and recovery kit, but what can I recover?
I have backup via Virgin Media so should be able to get music/videos etc but what about all downloaded programs.
eg. Winzip, Norton 360, Spotify (I use this a lot), and many others.
Do the programs I've found on IE really solve 303 errors, I have doubts?

    Hi,
A 303 error is a failure of the short Disk Self Test and usually indicates a physical problem with the drive - ie sectors that can no longer be written to or read from.  There is certainly software around that can mark these 'bad' sectors not to be used and the drive may well then pass a diagnostic, however this is really just masking the problem.
Regarding your software, the Recovery Discs shipped with your new HDD will reinstall nearly all of the software originall bundled with your notebook, but you'll need to re-download and install any third party applications such as Spotify again.

  • WHat happened to my time machine backup disc?

What happened to my time machine backup disc? It is no longer visible from finder or the time machine utility.

It doesn't show up in Disk Utility, and it is not discoverable from the Time Machine setup.
I've restarted, shut off and on, etc. It was displaying in the Time Machine list of discs but erroring out on actually doing a backup. I removed it to see if I could reconnect, but now I can't even find it.
All cables are plugged in securely.
My guess is this is the is related to the 10.9.2 update.
    Any other ideas?

  • Time machine error unable to complete backup. an error occured

    Hi All,
I have a question: i try to set up timemachine. Everything seems to work. but i cant get the first backup, it gives me the follow error: time machine error unable to complete backup. an error occured while copying files to the backup volume
My setup: an internet wireless router with a ethernet connection. On the ethernet connection i have a FreeCom Network Drive.
The Freecom Network drive have fat32, i think i cant format the netwerk drive cause there is some software on it, that give me access to my network drive via lan.
I configure that i can have acces to my netwerk drive. I can setup it from Time Machine, and Time Machine starts to put data on my network drive. After a while (mostly between 500mb-1,2 GB) it gives me the follow error: time machine error unable to complete backup. an error occured while copying files to the backup volume.
    What to do???

    Hi Norm,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    (Repair both Drives)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

"Mac OS X can’t repair the disk “Time Machine.
You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can’t save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can."
    Also
    "Disc erase failed
